Steven Hayes and a codefendant allegedly invaded the Petits’ Cheshire, CT, home around 3:00 AM on July 23, 2007, taking a husband, wife, and their daughters prisoner. At 9:00 AM, the intruders forced the wife, Jennifer Hawke-Petit, to go to the bank and withdraw a large sum of money. She was reportedly able to alert a bank employee that her family was being held captive, but by the time police arrived at the house it was on fire. The suspects tried to flee, but crashed their getaway vehicle into two police cars that were part of a roadblock.William Petit, the husband, had been badly beaten, but managed to escape his home with severe head wounds and seek help at a neighbor’s house. Autopsies of Hawke-Petit and her daughters showed that Hawke-Petit was strangled and her daughters died of smoke inhalation. More information here.

A Crescentville, PA woman was kidnapped by at least two men and raped, according to news reports. The 28 year old woman was left bound and semi-nude in Fairmount Park, after she was abducted Monday night near Lawndale Avenue and Comly Street, according to police. The victim reportedly believed that at least two men were involved and that they had taken her to an unknown house, where she was raped. Afterwards, the kidnappers dropped her off at Belmont Mansion Drive near Chamounix Drive, where a passerby noticed her and called police. More information here.

The stabbing of a gay waiter inside a Santa Monica, California Denny’s restaurant was a hate crime, according to police. According to news reports, employees of the Denny’s were sitting at a table before the restaurant opened when a man knocked on the restaurant’s window and asked to use the bathroom. When the man was allowed inside, he approached the table, and then asked a waiter if he was gay, police say. When the waiter replied that he was gay, the man allegedly stabbed the waiter in the neck with a knife. A star college softball pitcher was reportedly stabbed to death, and a suspect in the case was struck and seriously injured moments after allegedly confessing to the crime. 28 year old Stephen Headley was reportedly charged with the murder of 22 year old Nicole Ayres, whose body was found on a soccer field in Southhampton Township, NJ early on Monday, with multiple stab wounds to the head, neck and back, authorities say. Pizza Hut Delivery Man Fatally Stabbed

A 33-year-old Pizza Hut delivery man was found stabbed to death late Friday night at an apartment complex north of Omaha, Nebraka. Police received a phone call at 11:01 p.m., said Sgt. Tucker Wheeler of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, informing them that a person was laying wounded on the ground. Officers reportedly found the man at 6608 N. 89th Court, and took him to the Nebraska Medical Center, but were unable to save him. 90 Year Old Woman Raped in Her Own Home

A 90 year old Detroit woman was reportedly in her home around midnight when three men broke in. One of the men entered the elderly woman’s bedroom, and despite her attempts to fend him off with her bare hands, he raped her, according to police. The intruder then reportedly ransacked the home, before fleeing. The following morning, the woman’s grandson is said to have found her crying, hiding behind a bed. Pizza Delivery Driver Murdered for a Small Amount of Money

Richel Nova, of Hyde Park, MA, was a “hard working man, making an honest living” as Domino’s pizza delivery man, according to Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis. While making a delivery, three assailants reportedly stabbed Nova to death, in order to take the small amount of money that he was carrying, before fleeing in his vehicle. A tip from a member of the community and surveillance footage led to the arrest of the three suspects, who police say are high school students. An 82-year-old Seneca man who was found dead in his home last week was the victim of a homicide, the Oconee County coroner said today. An autopsy revealed that James Carver of 655 James Carver Drive died from blunt force head trauma and that he was slain, said the coroner, Karl E. Addis. Roseville police have charged a 21-year-old Detroit man with stabbing his girlfriend and then turning the knife on her stepfather when he tried to protect her during an argument late Wednesday at a residence in the 26000 block of Pinehurst. When police arrived at the Pinehurst residence they found the 20-year-old victim suffering from two stab wounds to her left leg and her father being stabbed multiple times in his stomach and back, police said. Deputy Police Chief James P. Berlin said the stepfather attempted to keep the man from stabbing his daughter, and was himself stabbed as a result. Both victims were reportedly taken to an area hospital. The woman was treated and then released while her stepfather reportedly remains listed in critical condition after several hours of surgery. An 19-year-old Chicago man has been charged in a weekend Lincoln Park rape and robbery, according to police. Marvin Hudson allegedly came up to a 21-year-old woman in the 1700 block of North Halsted Street about 2 a.m. Saturday and pulled her into an alley, Chicago police said in a news release. There he demanded the contents of the woman’s purse and then raped her, they said. Court records indicate Hudson has been arrested several times in the last three years on misdemeanor charges, and pleaded guilty in a misdemeanor trespassing case in Chicago in January. Nova Southeastern Professor Murdered by Violent Home Invader

A Nova Southeastern University science professor is dead following an overnight home invasion. Police say that an armed man entered the home around 12:34 a.m. at Northwest Sixth Court and 75th Terrace in Plantation, tied up a married couple and robbed them. Police spokesman Detective Robert Rettig said the robber then fatally shot the 46-year-old man. Investigators say the intruder then set multiple fires inside the house before fleeing the scene. The woman escaped the burning house with her 5-year-old child. She ran to a neighbor’s house and he called the police. When firefighters arrived on scene they discovered the victim inside the home. The 38-year-old male clerk was rushed into surgery at Baystate Medical Center following the 11:30 a.m. shooting, and is expected to survive, said Sgt. John M. Delaney. Police say a man in a hooded sweatshirt and wearing a mask entered the store, pointed a small-caliber handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register, Delaney said. Authorities say a man tried to sexually assault a Southern California jogger who escaped by jumping off a cliff. The woman was reportedly taken to a hospital Friday with cuts and bruises from the fall in Malibu. She told deputies she had finished a run at about noon at Point Dume State Beach and was standing at the edge of a cliff when she was grabbed from behind. She says she and the man struggled for several minutes before she was able to break away. That’s when the woman ran and jumped off the cliff. A Yonkers man, who reportedly raped and robbed a woman over a three hour period in an act of revenge against her boyfriend, has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison and 25 years parole. Kevin Denham, 28, had been convicted by a Westchester County Court jury of two counts of rape in the first degree, two counts of burglary in the first degree, two counts of criminal sexual act in the first degree, one count of robbery in the first degree, one count of assault in the second degree, and one count of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to news reports. A Woodhull, Illinois man is reportedly facing six felony counts for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women March 1 on Big Island in Rock Island County. Jason W. Kugler, 29, was reportedly charged in Rock Island County Circuit Court with six Class X counts, which each carry up to 30 years in prison upon conviction. He faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. The man was reportedly loading in his car at 1597 East 30th St. when two teenage robbers approached him. Koepp faces mandatory life in prison when he is sentenced April 27. With a tree branch, he ripped his girlfriend’s lip off her face and left her eyes swollen shut from the beating. Jacobo also beat and kicked the woman’s father when he tried to save his daughter, breaking the man’s ankle, knocking out some of his teeth, and causing him severe brain injuries. The judge called this “one of the most vicious attacks on two human beings I’ve ever seen.” Armando Jacobo, a 23 year old man from Joliet, plead guilty to attempted murder and aggravated battery on a senior citizen, and was sentenced to 25 years on those charges. Police say that a 16 year old Schaumburg High School student, 18 year old Carmichael Nation (a Jamaican national), and a 3rd accomplice who is at large, entered the home of a Streamwood man to steal a safe on Saturday morning. 3 dead in Wilmette murder-suicide, murderer had killed before

Wilmette police found the three bodies in a house on the 800 block of Greenleaf Avenue while performing a well being check on the occupants. Preliminary evidence is said to suggest that the man fatally shot the woman and the teenager before turning the gun on himself. Police are withholding the names of the individuals until their families can be notified.
UPDATE: The man who lived at the house in question was reportedly sentenced to 30 years in prison for stabbing his 25-year-old wife to death back in 1985. He claimed insanity, saying that he committed that homicide while suffering from “intermittent explosive disorder.”

2 men arrested for allegedly carjacking good Samaritan who helped them

Two men from Kankakee, IL have been charged with armed robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle after police say that they carjacked a good Samaritan who tried to help them after their car rolled over on I-57. Police say that 28 year old James A. Tallent, and 27 year old William C. Blunt, two men from Kankakee, were involved in a rollover crash on I-57, near 139th Street at about 4:30AM yesterday. A good Samaritan saw the rolled over vehicle, and stopped his 2000 Lexus SUV to try and help. Tallent and Blunt then allegedly threw the good Samaritan to the ground and stole his vehicle. Police reportedly found the stolen Lexus near Blunt’s home, where one of the men was arrested. The other man was arrested shortly thereafter in a nearby apartment building. Police also say that about half an hour before the rollover crash and carjacking, one or possibly both of the suspects was involved in the robbery of the Bradley, Illinois BP Fast and Fresh gas station. In that robbery, one man is said to have entered the gas station, armed with a black handgun, and demanded “all” the money. The man then pistol whipped an employee, and ordered him into the cooler, before stealing cash, beer, and other items, according to police. More information here.

Police in the Northwestern suburb of Huntley are investigating a double homicide which they believe was not a “random act.” Huntley police were performing a wellbeing check on a woman named Jennifer Beaudion, 33, when they found her and a 39 year old male dead from gunshot wounds on the 11000 block of Janice Drive. The identity of the male victim is being withheld until his family is notified, according to police. 85 Year Old Rape Victim Says Ordeal was Worse than the Holocaust

An 85 year old woman in Rossmoor, California stated that the home invasion and brutal rape she suffered two years ago was a worse experience than the holocaust. Thee woman (who name is not given for privacy reasons) was 13 years old when the holocaust came to her native country of Czechoslovakia. Her parents and five siblings were killed in the Auschwitz concentration camp, and she herself was beaten. A man who her parents had trusted to keep her safe was sexually abusive, and stole the little money that her mother had sewn into her jacket, before he abandoned her in the winter (without a jacket).

However, she told Superior Court Judge Daniel B. McNerney that an experience two years ago was even worse: She was confronted in her kitchen by a brutal home intruder. Her house was ransacked. Kenneth Shaffer, 53, of the 1300 block of West 115th Street was reportedly charged Friday morning with home invasion and aggravated battery, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien. Shaffer is a convicted felon with a “lengthy” arrest record, according to O’Brien. Shaffer allegedly broke in, despite burglar bars, and attacked a woman was in her bedroom. More information here.

Troy, New York police have reportedly arrested a man in connection with a rape on a bike path that took place over the summer. Stephen Pluff, 24, is reportedly facing several felony charges including rape and unlawful imprisonment.
