ELIZABETH HOLMES SENTENCED TO 11 YRS IN PRISON

Elizabeth Holmes has been sentenced to 135 months, or just over 11 years, in prison, according to journalist John Carreyrou. She will have to report to prison on April 27th, 2023, and will have an Extra three years of supervised release once she’s out, according to Yahoo Finance’s Alexis Keenan.

Judge Edward Davila, who has overseen the case, declared that the charges she had been found guilty of made her responsible for defrauding 10 victims out of $121 million, according to The New York Times’ Erin Griffith. Davila said that Holmes’ refusal to accept responsibility for the fraud counted against her in his sentencing decision, according to The Wall Street Journal.

A jury found Holmes guilty of three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud earlier this year. In the weeks leading up to the former Theranos CEO’s sentencing, prosecutors asked the judge to give her 15 years of prison time and to pay victims more than $800 million. On the day of the trial, the government argued Holmes’ actions put patients in harm’s way, according to the WSJ

Meanwhile, Holmes’ lawyers filed an 82-page document arguing why she should get a much lighter punishment — 18 months of house arrest and community service, at most — and provided well over 100 letters written in support of the founder.

Holmes led a company that promised to revolutionize the medical industry by running over 240 tests on a single drop of blood, where traditional panels required much larger samples.

But it turned out that the company’s tech didn’t work and gave patients inaccurate results. (Holmes was found not guilty on two counts of defrauding patients and one count of conspiracy to defraud patients.) The trial mainly hinged on whether Holmes knew she was giving out false information. In announcing his decision, Davila cited texts between Holmes and Sunny Balwani, former chief operating officer and president of Theranos, as proof that Holmes conspired to defraud investors, according to NBC News’ Scott Budman.

Balwani was also found guilty in a separate trial: 10 counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Unlike Holmes, Balwani was found to have misled both investors and patients. He is set to be sentenced on December 7th.

Turkish Footballer, Cevher Toktas arrested after 'confessing' to killing his 5-year-old son because he 'didn't love him'

A Turkish footballer has been arrested after allegedly confessing that he smothered his five-year-old son to death with a pillow because he 'didn't love him and hadn't 'since his wife gave birth to him'.

Defender Cevher Toktas, 32, who last played as a centre-back for Bursa Y?ld?r?mspor in the Turkish Regional Amateur League, was arrested earlier this month after his five-year-old son, Kasim, died at Dortcelik Children's Hospital in the city of Bursa.

According to Turkish media, Toktas took his son to hospital on April 23 because he was suffering from breathing difficulties and a high fever, two symptoms of Coronavirus.

Toktas and his son were then placed into quarantine together by doctors. Later that day, he reportedly informed staff that Kasim was struggling to breathe, and the boy was taken to intensive care where he died shortly afterwards.

Doctors ruled the five-year-old's death as natural and recorded Covid-19 as the cause of death. But 11 days after the boy's death, Toktas reportedly travelled to a local police station to report himself and admitted that he had killed his son.

He allegedly told officers that he smothered his son with a pillow after hospital staff left them alone.

Turkish media have reported that his statement read: 'I pressed a pillow on my son who was lying on his back.

'For 15 minutes, I pressed down on the pillow without lifting it up. My son was struggling during that time.

After he stopped moving, I lifted the pillow. Then I yelled for doctors to help to draw any suspicions away from me.'

Asked why he killed his son Kasim, he allegedly told cops that the reason he killed Kasim was because he 'didn't love him' and hadn't 'since he was born'.

The defender, who is said to have denied having any 'mental issues', was immediately arrested. He will be tried for 'murdering a close relative' and faces a life sentence if found guilty.

Kasim was buried in a makeshift grave after his death but authorities are planning to remove his corpse in order for an autopsy to take place as part of the ongoing investigation.

27-year-old Italian man arrested for poisoning grandparents and aunt

Thursday, the Italian police confirmed that they arrested a 27-year old man who used thallium, used in rat poison, to murder his grandparents and an aunt because he claimed they were “unclean”.

Maria Luisa Zanetti, the prosecutor, told reporters that 27-year-old Mattia Del Zotto said he killed them and used the poison on another five relatives “to punish unclean people”. Del Zotto bought the thallium from a company in Padua near Venice, and sprinkled the toxic chemical in the drinks and dishes of his family members.

His paternal grandparents, aged 94 and 88, and a 62-year-old aunt died in October after ingesting the poison at the start of October. He then tried to poison other relatives. Five others, including his maternal grandparents, who have been hospitalised in the past weeks.

Police were able to apprehend del Zotto thanks to an email on his computer quoting the poison’s price as well as tax and shipping rates, investigators said. His mother told investigators del Zotto had become “manic”. He spent his days in front of his computer and had stopped eating sweets and drinking alcohol, saying people were only allowed to consume “vital” things.

Thallium, a soft metal, has long been used as a murder weapon as it dissolves in water and is odourless and tasteless.

Some days back, Iranian teen Sahar Tabar went viral because of her ghoulish look while attempting to look like Angelina Jolie . She has now claimed in a new interview that her look was achieved with the help of skillful makeup and Photoshop. She admits she's done cosmetic surgery, but nothing as drastic as the look that went viral.

When Sahar's photos the followership on her Instagram account - which is filled with photos of her looking like a zombie-like version of Angelina Jolie - increased. People were left in shock as they wondered what could lead someone to do such to themselves. A lot of people called her out on Instagram and even gave her unflattering nicknames.

But according to recent report, Russia's state-sponsored international news agency is featuring a supposedly "real" interview with Sahar. In the piece, which is only available in Russian, the Iranian teen claims she never said anything about wanting to look like Angelina Jolie and she also hasn't had 50 surgeries. She said the photos were really posted by her but that isn't how she really looks.

"Of course not. [referring to the surgeries] This is Photoshop and makeup. Every time I post a photo, I make my face all the funnier and funnier. It is such a way of self-expression, a kind of art. My fans know that this is not my real face." said Tabar.

She does confirm she got a nose job, pumped up her lips, and had a liposuction. But nothing remotely close to the claims published by the media.

She added: "I do not see anything terrible in operations: many people are doing this kind of procedure on the planet. Here, in Tehran, one operation costs 10 million Iranian rials ($300 US)"

We hope somebody finally disposed of the dead Demodog in the Byers' refrigerator because Stranger Things is officially returning for a third season, and that home has been through enough.

Yes, we know this is the least surprising news of all time, but Netflix made things official Friday morning, confirming that a third season was a go but offering no timeline as to when fans could expect a return to Hawkins, Indiana. We're going to defer to Dustin on this one:

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have previously stated that they have a four-season plan — though, there might be enough story for five — for the sci-fi series. The Duffer Brothers have also confirmed that the third season will take place after yet another time jump. (They have to keep up with Finn Wolfhard's growth spurt somehow!)

Given the one-year jump between the first and second seasons, Season 3 will most likely begin a year after the events of Snow Ball at the end of Stranger Things 2. This means Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, Max, and presumably Jane (a.k.a. Eleven) are headed to Hawkins High School. The specific setting is still TBD, but it would be cool to see them at the beginning of their high-school journey, sometime in late August or early September 1985 — just after the summer release of the highest-grossing film of the year, Back to the Future.

If you thought Ghostbusters was a big deal for the Party, just wait until Dustin starts rocking Marty McFly's Nike Bruins and double denim.

The Duffer Brothers have also hinted that the third season would find Eleven facing off against her old friend the Mind Flayer following their harrowing encounter in the Season 2 finale. Apparently, the Mind Flayer isn't content with being locked in the Upside Down by the tiny telekinetic. "It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode," the Duffers told The Hollywood Reporter. "Now it knows that she's out there."

And if you're the Mind Flayer, someone as powerful as Eleven could make an excellent vessel for your nefarious plans. Dun dun dunnn.

On top of news that the phones will ship with tech that will rival Apple's iPhone X (such as face recognition tech and a dual-lens camera - read below for more information on that), it also appears the new handset will have a much-improved battery life, too.

According to reports posted by The Leaker, some models of the phone will feature the already-leaked Qualcomm's 10nm Snapdragon 845 processor - which will boost performance and make the phone more powerful than Samsung's previous handsets.

However, new information reveals that other models of the phone (most likely the S9 Plus versions) will instead feature the Exynos 9th series CPU.

Samsung Galaxy S9 - What We Already Know

This comes after we got a few hints as to when the Samsung S9 is rumoured to launch during next year's Mobile World Congress show.

The show takes place February 26th to March 1st 2018 and has traditionally seen Samsung announce or release products in the past.

However, last week it was revealed by Venturebeat that the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will make their first public appearance at next year's CES, strange given that most tech sites would have expected a reveal at Mobile World Congress later in the year.

VentureBeat claims to have spoken to someone 'briefed on the company's plans' with the South Korean company planning a sneak peak of the devices at the January tech show before a full release in March 2018.

The same report also featured plenty more leaked details about the devices potential specs, claiming that the S9 will be "an iterative update", which will be "nearly identical in appearance" to the Galaxy S8.

But ahead of the launch, as with many products, rumours and leaks are starting to surface.

Further to our reports that the phone will still feature a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the phone and will not live up to the benchmarks of the iPhone X, more rumours about the handset are coming to light.

Apparently, the next-generation handset will feature an improved facial recognition system and a dual-camera setup that was debuted on the Galaxy Note 8.

Though neither of these features have been confirmed, Samsung has revealed some of the key components likely to feature in its next-generation flagship device, hinting at the capabilities of its upcoming hardware.

This comes in the form of a new mobile processor, which is specifically designed to power top-of-the-line devices such as the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy Note 9 when they launch in 2018.

“The Exynos 9 Series 9810 is Samsung’s latest flagship processor, with 3rd-generation custom CPU cores, upgraded GPU, and gigabit LTE modem with industry-first 6CA support,” Samsung confirmed in a press release about its achievements at the CES 2018 Innovation Awards.

Samsung Galaxy S9 - Design

Samsung also reveals its Exynos 9 Series 9810 chipset is “built on 2nd generation 10nm process technology”.

If Samsung follows the pattern it has established with previous smartphone launches, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 8 will be powered by either Exynos or Qualcomm chips, depending on geographical region reports the Daily Express.

In the same press release, Samsung also hints at more features coming to the phone in other thanks to improved tech.

Samsung also references the new Isocell SLIM 2X7 image sensor, which offers “high-resolution image sensors in small chip packages, delivering detailed pictures in low-light environments without a camera bump”.

According to Samsung, “the small 0.9μm pixel size enables a 24Mp image sensor to be fitted in a thinner camera module, allowing premium smartphones to offer high-resolution cameras in a very slim and elegant design.”

In layman's terms, that could mean a thinner design for the new phone, as well as the possibility of a dual-camera setup.

Samsung Galaxy S9 - Specs

It appears as though some new benchmark results for a Samsung smartphone with the model number SM-G960F have appeared online on the Geekbench website (via theinquirer.net).

This model number is widely expected to the global version of the Galaxy S9.

"The handset, which likely will come powered by Samsung's new Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor, scored 2680 on the single-core Geekbench 4 test and a 7787 on the multi-core test," explained Carly Page, editor of theinquirer.net.

"While impressive, this puts the device far behind the iPhone X, which scored a single-core score of 4197 and multi-core score of 10051."

Even more worryingly is the fact that according to BGR, if these test scores are in line with what customers can expect to see when the phone launches next year then Samsung's next big phone won't match up to the iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus - let along the iPhone X.

BGR also notes that early benchmark leaks "are typically a good representation of what we end up seeing at launch."

Tomb of Jesus dated, showing ancient crypt built earlier than believed

The ancient cave that Christians believe held the remains of Jesus Christ dates from 1,700 years ago, according to scientists—far earlier than they originally believed.

The scientific dating tests on the shrine, which began in October 2016, were the first of their kind carried out on what the faithful believe to be the resting place of the Christian Messiah. The tomb itself had not been opened in centuries and had previously been thought to have first been built during the time of the Crusaders, and so no older than 1,000 years.

However, experts can now say with certainty the tomb complex was originally constructed in A.D. 345, in the time of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine, 17 centuries ago, National Geographic reported.

Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where the limestone cave is located, had been partially destroyed and rebuilt throughout the centuries as a result of violent attacks, earthquakes and fires over the course of the city’s turbulent history.

The church was completely destroyed in A.D. 1009 and rebuilt, which had led to conventional academic thinking that it was unlikely the church could be identified as the same site consecrated by a Roman delegation in the third century.

But results of the modern-day scientific tests have put the date of the building of the cave far closer to the Roman consecration of the site in A.D. 325. A Roman temple was built at the site two centuries earlier, but according to historical record, this was later razed with excavations beneath showing the cave of the burial of Christ, now known as the Edicule.

The reopening of the crypt for the first time in centuries had already led to startling discoveries. Scientists were amazed to discover, beneath marble cladding that covered a1555 burial bed, a far older broken marble slab engraved with a cross.

Mortar samples recovered from the Edicule have given a range of insights into different periods of rebuilding. The fragments of plaster have shown remains of the southern wall of the cave were dated to between A.D. 335 and A.D.1570.

While the discovery has confirmed historical records relating to the fourth century, they cannot prove that Jesus of Nazareth was buried in the shrine. According to the New Testament, the Christian Messiah would have been laid to rest there in A.D. 30 to 33.

Malaria drugs could help to combat cancer

Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are drugs that are used to treat malaria, but a new review suggests that they may have another purpose: treating cancer.

The research — which reviewed more than 190 studies investigating how chloroquine (CQ) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) affect cancer cells — describes how the malaria drugs may increase tumor sensitivity to existing cancer treatments.

Based on their findings, first study author Ciska Verbaanderd, from the University of Leuven in Belgium, and her colleagues say that the drugs "deserve further clinical investigations in several cancer types."

The review was recently published in the journal ecancermedicalscience.

While the United States has seen a fall in cancer death rates in recent years, the disease remains a significant burden on public health. Last year, there were more than 1.6 million new cancer cases diagnosed in the U.S. and more than 595,000 cancer deaths.

Given that cancer is increasingly becoming resistant to existing therapies, there is a desperate need to uncover new ways to fight the disease.

Verbaanderd and colleagues believe that the drugs CQ and HCQ could help in this fight.

CQ and HCQ as cancer therapies

CQ and HCQ are medications used to prevent and treat malaria. They may also be used in the treatment of lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. A wealth of research, however, has suggested that these drugs may also have anti-cancer properties.

For their review, Verbaanderd and colleagues analyzed the results of more than 190 animal and human studies that assessed the effects of CQ and HCQ on different types of cancer.

According to the researchers, the aim of their review was "to inform further research and trials on repurposing CQ and HCQ as anti-cancer agents."

The team uncovered evidence to suggest that CQ and HCQ could be effective for the treatment of a number of cancers, including glioblastoma — which is a deadly brain cancer — lung cancer, and pancreatic cancer.

"CQ and HCQ have been studied in multiple preclinical cancer models," write the authors, "and have demonstrated activity on several cancer-supporting pathways and in combination with a broad range of other therapies."

British aid worker, Ian Squire, shot dead in Nigeria after singing “Amazing Grace”

Missionary medics in West Africa and Friends of 57-year-old British optician, Ian Squire, who were abducted alongside the British aid worker in Nigeria has revealed what happened during his final moment.

His fellow hostages David and Shirley Donovan, told Telegraph U.K that he was playing “Amazing Grace” on his acoustic guitar, before he got shot by the men who kidnapped them from their accommodation in Delta State in the early hours of October 13.

According to them, the group’s spirits were lifted when the kidnappers returned a guitar, and Mr Squire played Amazing Grace.

“It was the perfect song, and at that point things began to look not quite as bad. But then, after Ian finished playing, he stood up, and a salvo of gunshots killed him instantly.

We didn’t see who did it, but it was obvious that someone in the gang had shot him. It was terrifying to see. We jumped out of the shack and into the water as we thought they were coming for us next, but a member of the gang came and put us back in there with Ian for the rest of the day.”

They were freed after the kidnappers told them a ransom had been paid, and were met by two SUVs, with Mr Donovan saying the smell of the leather and the air conditioning “was like stepping from one world into another”.

A man who has been dubbed the “human lie detector” reveals exactly how to rumble a liar.

You may think you’re adept at spotting a faker, but apparently a lot of the usual tells are actually myths.

New research reveals that 89% of Brits believe they know the top giveaways, with a lack of eye contact claiming the top spot (64%), followed by delayed responses (50%) and a change of tone (40%).

Men and women also suspected behaviours such as fidgeting, sweating, scratching your nose and covering your mouth when speaking as surefire signs that someone is lying.

However deception detection expert Darren Stanton said these clues are not as clear cut as they may seem.

He said: “While most of us think we can spot a liar many of the classic tells are unreliable.
“Liars and especially those with a hidden agenda, find it very easy to look others in the eye.

“Fidgeting is another myth, if someone is trying to sell you a lie, watch for an unusual level of stillness in their behaviour.”

But the psychologist and body language expert shared his top tips for exposing the truth.

Darren said: “Change of tone however, is a good indicator.
“The voice may go up in pitch or even crack.
“Also look for scratching of the nose, back of the neck, or even picking invisible fluff from their clothes – all distraction techniques.
“In younger people, covering the mouth is often a sign of lying, it’s a gesture that’s saying: ‘I wish I didn’t say that.’”

Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s fifth—and sixth—vehicles at a characteristically glitzy event in Los Angeles last night. An audience of potential customers and current Tesla owners witnessed smooth acceleration, excellent cornering and impressive performance—and those were just the exploits of the electric Semi truck they had turned up to see.

The crowd was then treated to the surprise unveiling of what is destined to be not only the world’s longest-range electric car, but also the fastest production car of any flavor: the new Tesla Roadster.

The unveiling of the two vehicles amounted to a triumphant evening for Elon Musk, who has been struggling through what he admits has been “production hell” with ongoing delays to his company’s mass market Model 3 car.

Although the new Roadster is destined to grab headlines, it was the launch of the Semi heavy-duty truck that could have the most impact on the world’s roads. The truck, which is powered by a Model 3 motor on each of its four drive wheels and boasts a drag coefficient lower than a Bugatti Chiron, can drive 800 kilometers (500 miles) on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack.

Tesla would not confirm the pack’s capacity or chemistry, but did say that it is very similar to another product sold by Tesla (probably either the Powerwall domestic or Powerpack utility-scale battery). It says the Semi weighs roughly the same as existing diesel trucks fully loaded with fuel.

The pack will be able to take on 650-km-worth of charge in 30 minutes at a new generation of charging stations, called Megachargers, that Musk will soon roll out to Semi drivers operating “anywhere in the world.” The Megachargers will deliver solar power generated from Tesla solar panels, selling it at a flat rate of 7 cents per kilowatt-hour in the United States. That is just over half the national average rate of 13.1 cents per kWh.

At that price, says Musk, the Semi will cost just 78 cents per kilometer ($1.26 per mile) to operate. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) says that operating a diesel truck in 2016 cost an average of 99 cents per km ($1.59/mi). That differential means that the Semi will save truckers hundreds of thousands of dollars, despite it having a higher purchase price than today’s diesel trucks. Musk did not specify a retail cost for the Semi, but Jerome Guillen, the engineer in charge of the Semi project, did say Tesla already has “a lot” of preorders.

Trucking may seem like a departure for the Californian company more commonly associated with luxury cars like the Roadster announced later. But it actually fits neatly into Musk’s long-term strategy of covering all “major forms” of terrestrial transport, with the aim of accelerating the advent of a sustainable energy economy.

According to the International Energy Authority, trucks account for around 20 percent of global oil demand, 35 percent of transport-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and around 7 percent of the planet’s energy-related CO2 emissions. If trucks continue to burn oil, the IEA predicts their oil consumption will rise by nearly one-third again by 2050. Instead, says Musk, “Our trucks run on sunlight."

Tesla says the Semi comes with the same Enhanced Autopilot system as its latest cars, using identical front- and side-facing cameras, computers, ultrasonic sensors and radars—although probably more of them. As expected, it does not have a lidar system. Musk did not talk about the potential of automating drivers out of a job, instead focusing on the safety and efficiency benefits of partial autonomy.

A platooning convoy of three Tesla Semi trucks, he said, would reduce their cost per kilometer to just 53 cents (85 cents/mi). This would be cheaper than sending the same freight by train. “This is economic suicide for rail,” he said.

Tesla is also keen to woo drivers by putting them in a stylish cab that is home to a single, centrally-located seat with 15-inch touchscreens on either side. These come straight from the Model 3, displaying a similar selection of driving information and maps, and access to settings and audio entertainment. In fact, many of the Semi’s components are carryovers from other Teslas, including exterior door handles from the Model 3. But unlike the Model 3, it does not have a driver-facing internal camera.

While the Semi promises cheaper, more efficient freight transportation, the new Roadster is unabashedly presented as a shiny toy for rich speed freaks. Its ability to punch from 0 to 100 km in less than two seconds and reach a top speed of over 400 km per hour, makes it the spiritual successor to the Lotus-bodied Roadster that launched Tesla. With a range of 1000 kilometers (620 miles), it can zip from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back again on a single charge.

The Roadster’s $250,000 price tag is about the same, probably, as the Semi truck. But only one quarter-million-dollar investment has the potential to slash carbon emissions, eliminate air pollution and even reduce accidents.

The military plane fell into the sea south-east of Okinawa on its way to the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.

The government in Tokyo said it had been told that eight people had been plucked to safety and that US authorities had said engine trouble was the suspected cause of the accident. The search is continuing for three others.

"Personnel recovery is under way and their condition will be evaluated by USS Ronald Reagan medical staff," a US Navy statement said.

The ship was operating in the Philippine Sea when the crash happened at 2.45pm Japan time (5.45am GMT).

An uncommon sighting of a mature white crocodile has excited tourism operators in Australia's Northern Territory.

The reptile, nicknamed Pearl, was spotted on the Adelaide River near Darwin on Sunday.
One witness, a local conservation enthusiast, estimated the crocodile was about 3m (10ft) long.
The reptile's pale appearance is caused by hypomelanism - having a low amount of the pigment melanin, according to a zoological expert.
Locals believe the animal may be related to a well-known hypomelanistic crocodile that was put down after killing a fisherman in 2014.
"Everyone is so ecstatic," said the president of an unofficial local conservation group, who gave her name only as Broady.
"I spent most of the day in tears watching her."

With available statistics showing that young girls are disproportionately affected when it comes to HIV, Safe Love International has launched a campaign tagged: “No Sugar Daddy, Bright Future” to save 1 million Nigerian teenagers from new HIV infections and unwanted pregnancy.

The campaign is designed to address and combat the high rates of teenage pregnancies and HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria.

According to the Founder of Safe Love International, Sandara Omo Idugboe, young girls are heavily affected when it comes to HIV and intergenerational sex is one of the main drivers of the HIV epidemic among adolescent girls in Nigeria.

Noting that teenage girls are commonly preyed upon by older popularly known as “sugar daddies” due to money and exchange of gifts for sex, Idugboe said the campaign is also targeting to reduce teenage pregnancy by 28 percent annually as it has been proven in a randomised controlled trial.

“With the “No Sugar Daddy, Bright Future Campaign” combating inter-generational sex, Safe Love hopes to combat the negative effects of inter-generational sex, reduce the high rate of new HIV infections among young girls, discourage widespread sugar daddy culture and beckon on the government to tighten sexual abuse laws so as to protect young girls and give abused girls justice.”

Idugboe who is also an international actress and model, observed that girls are less able to insist on abstinence or safe sex practice when partnered with old adult men, hence the need for the campaign.

“This is a powerful way to change behaviour.” Idugboe explained that the programme would be carried out in form of short interactive discussion with young students in school, sometimes at the streets and markets.

“It is going to be a 30mins class where the risk of inter-generational sex is brought to them (HIV/ pregnancy) and we will expose them to the statistics from the Nigerian AIDS Control Agency, UNICEF among others.

We will bring it right in their face, so that they will see how close HIV is to them. This is what we call Risk Perception, we update their risk perception and we bring it to their consciousness ‘and say, ‘If you choose to start having sex relations with older men, you are up to 9 times likely to be HIV infected as suppose to if you were dating a younger boy of your age’.

She said the programme is being successfully carried out in six other African countries. Already the team has started operation in Abuja and reached over 10, 000 while their next target will be Rivers state.

“It is still a taboo in Nigeria when we say lets teach young girls and boys on how to protect themselves sexually as in family planning and our statistics is still showing us that people are not abstaining. It’s time we wake up from our slumber and begin to go into family planning.

“Our concern is why the prevalence is really high. These are recent statistics on NACA website from HIV survey that was done.

For pregnancy rate, it has been proven that the Northern part of Nigeria including Abuja has the highest, 1 in 3 girls gets pregnant before they leave high school and it came from the National Population Commission. Still giving reasons why they embark on campaign, she said: “Currently Nigeria has the highest teenage fertility rate as well as in the South. When we talk about “no sugar daddy bright future”, we are not talking about the grown up woman, our concern is adolescent girls.

A grown woman is matured and can decide for herself and another reason why we focused on a teenage girl is because when a young girl is with an older man, it is more or less a slave master relationship, it is not a relationship of a matured woman.

Organizers say the impetus was a recent poll that found that the thought of dining with somebody who’s HIV-positive still paralyzes them with fear.

The survey by Casey House, Canada’s only hospital dedicated to people living with HIV/AIDS, found that nearly half of Canadians wouldn’t eat a meal prepared by someone with the disease, even though health experts say the infection can’t be transmitted that way.

To combat the stigma around food prep, Casey House decided it was time to pull a bold stunt.

The pop-up, called June’s Eatery after Casey House’s co-founder June Callwood, launched this week. It advertised two four-course dinners made by 14 HIV-positive chefs for $125 — one yesterday, the other today. Both of them sold out.

Organizers told the press that they even welcome “negative coverage,” though, as the “entire point of the pop-up” is “exposing the ignorance and blame around HIV and AIDS.”

They did their best to test people, too — organizers say they mailed jars of soup prepared by the HIV-positive team to newsrooms “across Canada.”
