Honda AEM EMS on a 2JZ Supra?

So the Supra's been down for a while... which is depressing, but it'll return stronger than ever. I've decided to make the jump to a standalone ECU, but in true Ignite Soul fashion am too broke to pay real prices for everything.

After a ton of research and looking at diagrams and manuals, I figured out that the AEM 30-1050 and 30-6050 EMS units have enough inputs/outputs of the right type to run a 2JZ on the sensors I have right now! Parts are trickling in the mail and once they're here I'll build a new engine harness for the AEM and new sensors and no longer be limited by the stock Toyota TCCS.

For those interested, I'll be using:

GM 3-bar MAP sensor
GM IAT sensor
DH61 Ignitor with 2JZ VVTi coilpacks (waste fire)
Low impedance injectors with resistor pack, full sequential
7M Cam sensor
AEM Knock control, Boost control (with MAC solenoid), Launch control, etc

There are plenty of other options out there, I just happen to have a lot of this lying around already haha.

Also, my HKS VPC with sensors and 550cc 7M chip is for sale, as well as the HKS EVC II electronic boost controller and Apexi S-AFC II. The Holset Super 40 is also for sale, along with the downpipe.

MKIII Supra solid aluminum subframe bushings + arms

I've decided to make some solid aluminum subframe bushings. If anyone wants a set, I can make a couple extras -- just let me know.

Bushings will completely replace all six of these flexy rubber things for solid subframe to chassis mounting!

In other news, as many of you older Toyota owners may know, the eccentric bolts for alignment adjustment like to seize to the bushing sleeves. So... I had to cut them off.

I have replacement arms, so I just cut through the entire arm to gain better access to the bolts. It's hard to avoid nicking the subframe while cutting...

A while later... all gone! Make sure you use at least a 4.5" diameter cutting wheel if using a grinder. It would have been easier with a 6" or even larger wheel.... a 4" wouldn't have been large enough to cut through the entire bolt/sleeve.

Let's make 2012 awesome!

A lot of our new setups are being wrapped up and hopefully 2012 will bring many track events and perhaps even some videos now that we have 2 go-pros!

The Supra is now tuned for 15 psi and runs great. Traction is an issue, but the Kumho XS aren't designed to be run under 0 degrees C so they won't go on until Spring.

Kaden's coupe is close to being done -- the radiator setup is done, and some wiring and hoses just need to be finished up before the LS1 runs!

Chris' car is running and should be back in Raleigh to receive HX30 goodness early January.

Spencer now has a custom manifold by Tanner and has some CCW Classics on order, as well as some other goodies!

Daniel's E30 should be boosted soon and now rocks the cool RPF replicas off of Kaden's old Miata.

Katherine's E30 M3 is selling to a guy up north today =( But a replacement will be inbound soon!

Justin has full type-x kouki aero now, and it will be getting paint and bodywork when it gets warm.

Jay is now on the polished x9 Starions and a runs a larger T28, also courtesy of the Miata (RIP)

Mark should be following suit soon with a T28 upgrade for his SR, and possibly some suspension geometry corrections he's been drawing up in SolidWorks.

Alex has a new scooter. It's pretty dope.

Chase is making an exhaust or something, but we'll wait on pictures of that.

Chris Ratliff is going HX35 on his WRX and bought a new hardbody to daily drive. Oh, and he graduated from NC State!

I bought an s13 240sx coupe with a silvia front. I also bought a parts car which allowed me to
put the coupe on coils, five lug swap it, and install z32 brakes immediately after getting it. I also
put on some snazzy wheels courtesy of Jay. 16x8-4 front, 16x8 +6 rear if I remember.

Took some other cool parts out of the donor car too

The LS1 has been living in the kitchen since it was removed

We pulled the single slammer out of the coupe. Chris the KA king was proud.
This drivetrain was put back into the donor hatch, which will be our drift missile.
You can see it poking its butt into the picture.

The coupe lived in the driveway while I stripped it out and cleaned the bay.

Once the missile was running we pulled it out of the garage and the coupe took its place .

I'm slowly making progress here, and it's ready for the engine.
I just need to run the fuel lines and do a LOT of wiring. Should run in January, no promises.

I've made a lot of progress since last posting. I bought a "built" engine that turned out to be a waste of money, I ended up having an entirely different block machined and I went ahead and built that one. The engine is all back together now though, should be in the car in the next week and I should have my car back with me at school next semester.

Spencer has been testing out his hydrographic skills lately, he painted and dipped my valve cover for me and it came out awesome! It will add a significant amount of bling to my engine bay.

I'll post more once the engine is in and running, it's been a headache but I'm really looking forward to driving my car again!

Some new developments have been a-poppin' at Ignite Soul. Spencer has expanded from HID retrofits and paint to Hydrographics! A few test items using Benjamins are pictured.

Next up... I just spent a lot of time re-creating the old school HKS pattern. Pictures of it exist but nothing usable came up, so the only option was to vector it out using reference photos of the old drag cars. We're going to send it out and see if anyone can make a transfer of it. If it works out, Spencer will be able to hydrographically water transfer literally anything imaginable onto any part that can be painted and submersed in water!

Everything has been working out great so far, and it won't be long until the process is perfected enough to offer this service to the community!

All turbo parts inbound! Boost imminent.

Holiday build progress report

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! A lot has been going on lately at the hizzy, so here's a small update.

Ok so.... I got some 295/35/r17 Kumho Ecsta XS in the mail. They'll be mounted on RPF1s in the spring. I can't wait! Jay ordered himself some 245/45/r16 Toyo R888s. Believe it or not, we're going to actually run legit tires now haha!

I also bought an HX35 off a guy who wanted something smaller for his 1JZ. It's nice and all but... after looking into it a bit I need something bigger. Introduce the HX40 I found locally from a nice gentleman 30 minutes away:

Now that the turbo situation is decided, I have a T4 manifold, 50mm wastegate, 50mm BOV, and downpipe/intake pipe/dump tube coming in the mail. Oh, and a hydraulic e-brake!=D

The HX30 is going on Chris' KA, the HX40 is going on Marco's 2JZ, and the HX35 can be yours for $350!

If all goes well we'll all be back up and running with enough torque to change the rotational speed of the Earth by next year. Spring 2012 will be an exciting time!

My wide pair of 245/45/16 Toyo R888s came in, as well as Marco's massively wide set of 295/35/17 Kumho Ecsta XSs. Warm weather needs to hurry up because we're really anxious for this huge grip upgrade! In the meantime, our house will smell like a tire store.

(and seriously, those Ecstas are unbelievably wide compared to all the 225s and 245s we usually have laying around.)

Man has it been a while since I have posted! The last time I posted was when I just got done with freshening up my s13 after spring break '11. Well since then a lot has went down.
- Participated in my first drift event. It was a blast! I will def be back for more!
- 3 inch exhaust from manifold back, aspec blast pipes for the tips, and a borla muffler.
- front windshield rest and resealed, so nor more leaks!
- New 180sx kouki (type x) front bumper
- 180sx turn signals, position lights, aftermarket lip

Hopefully in the spring of 2012 I can finish the rest of the 180sx aero and maybe it will be repainted by Mr. Spencer Tull. Hope everyone likes the new changes!

And today, I got it drivable. Lots of headaches adjusting the TPS and making the Ford O2 sensor work, but it runs pretty well now. A few more adjustments, mostly for throttle tip-in enrichment, and it should be good to go!

Bought this. I talked the dude down to $995 from $1500 because the truck is generally in beat up shape and has a very poorly done 22RE rebuild and lacks all of its interior. The previous owner had the TPS unplugged, forcing the ECU into open loop. It wouldn't idle and ran terribly. Felt like it had 30 whp.

After tinkering with it for a while, and fixing the 180 degree and a tooth off distributor, it runs like a normal 22RE should and has already proven very capable in the ridiculous mud of North Carolina.

The plan is to sell the Rodeo and rebuild the 22RE, refresh all the suspension, do a few cosmetic things, and daily drive this/go on off-road trips with it when it's not drift time.

Toyota Supra MKIII 8" LSD differential pictures

Toyota 8" LSD. 3.73 out of a MKIII Supra. Similar to the rear differentials used in many Toyota pickup trucks and 4runners.

It was kind of hard for me to find pictures, so I decided to snap a few terrible camera phone shots of mine while I had it disassembled. I plan to put a stronger spring and more aggressive clutch plates in hopes of making it lock up better.

The LSD itself. To get this out of the diff pumpkin, pull the axle stub shafts out (yep, they just pull straight out. With a lot of force. But it's totally safe to just yank on them.) and undo the two bearing caps (4 bolts total). Make sure to mark the two halves of the housing with a punch or something before separating them.

Passenger side half of the housing open. After punch marking the two halves of the housing, just remove the 8 bolts in a crisscross pattern and the housing should open up. The clutch plates and one pinion gear can be seen on the passenger half of the housing. Also, this is a 4-pinion LSD and uses a central spring to apply force to the clutch packs. The only real way to upgrade it is to replace the spring with one with a higher spring rate or add more clutch packs/put new clutch packs in with a higher coefficient of friction.

The spring taken out and laying on the edge of the driver's side half of the housing. NOTE: the ring gear and both bearings can remain on the housings during disassembly. The TSRM said to remove the bearings and ring gear but there is no good reason to unless you're replacing them.

The clutch pack laid out. Supposedly some Supra LSDs came with these shims and plates stacked in a different order to reduce the amount of lockup because of complaints by customers about chattering from the rear end. Alternating them is the "grippiest" way to organize them.
