So long and thanks for all the fish

As many of you may have already heard, Ignition! quartet, 2008 International 16th place quartet has decided to hang it up. We have had a great four years singing for our chapter, district, fans, and friends but all good things must come to and end.

We have had a great run and we are sad to see it end. Each day that we have been singing together has been a fun and exciting challenge. From our District win in 2005 to our Top 20 international finish in 2008, from our local chapter shows to our performances across the country we have enjoyed singing and performing together. We will cherish these memories for years to come.

Although Ignition! has ended, none of us are planning on giving up this wonderful hobby. In fact, there are already some things in the works. Our lead, Curtis Terry, has already won another district gold with a new group called McPhly. Our baritone, Matt Swann, is co-directing and singing with the RMD youth chorus 52eighty which are getting ready for the mid-winter competition in Pasadena. Our bass, Denny Malone, is still arranging, and polishing his quartet gold from 1983, and our tenor, Dan Testa, is working on some opportunities to continue singing and competing with a quartet in the future.

All and all we are happy with what we accomplished but sad to see the curtain come down.

A special thank you goes out to Roger Olson and James Taylor, Ignition!’s originating tenor and baritone for your talents and for helping us get the group off the ground.

We would also like to thank the Sound of the Rockies chorus, the Rocky Mountain District, our fans, and friends for all you have done for us.

We would especially like to thank our wives and families; Mary, Eli, Donna, Meagan, Molly, Kristi, and Amaiya for all your love and support. We couldn’t have done it without you.

After many requests to make updates to the photo section of our website, we have finally gathered all the photos that we have taken in the last year and are in the process of getting them loaded. Since this may take some time, we have added a slide show of a few of the recent pictures on the home page.

If any of you have pictures of the quartet that you have taken on your cameras please contact us and let us know so that we can get a copy from you for our archives.

DNC Convention

Well, as you would imagine with the DNC here in Denver last week they were bound to want some good old fashioned barbershop singing to accompany events. Sure enough, we were lucky enough to be asked to sing at an event honoring Dick Gephardt and his cause to create universal healthcare for Americans. Although we were basically background music it was still very interesting to see all the folks there enjoying themselves. We were supposed to see Al Gore and other dem politicians that night but due to a traffic snafu they did not make it to the event in time.

After we finished our duties at the event we decided to walk around downtown to be a part of the historic convention. Although two of the quartet members lean more towards the red side of the parties, we all had a great time walking around and singing for the SWAT members who, thankfully, were very bored.

We had our picture taken several times because we were wearing our white suits. It is hard to stay conspicuous while wearing something like that. It really was quite a site to see.

Harmony Happenings Report

Ignition! recently returned from a great weekend in the Black Hills of South Dakota to be a part of the 2008 Harmony Happenings concert at the Mount Rushmore amphitheater. It was a dream come true for us to be able to sing underneath such an awe inspiring monument.

We had a great time hanging out with the guys from the (host) Rapid City chapter as well as singing with all the participants in this years festivities.

The accommodations were wonderful. It was very nice waking up in the middle of the Black Hills with nothing but the sounds of the wind through the trees and wild turkeys in the distance.

Thanks again for having us. We hope to participate again sometime.

A big thank you goes out to those of you who attended our show at Nissi's Bistro on August 5!

You were a great crowd and we enjoyed performing for you. For many, it was a long drive up/down I-25 during rush hour to attend the show. We appreciate your commitment to the quartet and to barbershop/a cappella music - especially those of you who've attended a previous show.

Ignition! had a great time and hope you did too.

As you may have noticed the Ignition! website has recently been redesigned. We are hoping the redesign makes it easier for people to learn more about the quartet. Also with the new design it will help us keep the site updated regularly.

Another Big Night at Nissi's - August 5th

Family, Friends, and Fans,

Thanks to many of you, after a very successful Nissi's night in April, Ignition! quartet has been asked back for another two-hour show at Nissi's Bistro in Lafayette, CO on Tuesday August 5th at 7:30 PM. We know it is a work night, but Tuesday night is Nissi's designated a cappella night, so we can't change that. Tickets are only $8 for pre-sale ($10 day of show) which is a great deal for a quality live performance.

Nissi's Bistro has wonderful "small-plate" food that can be purchased from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. We highly recommend coming early and dining before and during the show!
The group needs to sell a minimum amount of tickets, so if you are interested and available on August 5th, please purchase your tickets soon. The restaurant only holds 110 people so it is intimate and can easily sell out. It is sure to be another great night!

Ignition! Finishes 16th in Nashville

Ignition! has recently returned from an exciting week at the BHS International competition in Nashville, TN where we were very pleased with our top 20 performance. Although we were hoping for a better finish this year, the competition was a much tougher race than in years past. Many of the quartets have been working extra hard knowing that they were up against some 1, 2, and 3 time gold medalists.

We had a great time hangin' out with all the quartets and we want to personally thank the guys from Realtime for sticking around late one night and singing tags with us and some of our family members. I think Denny's niece is a bit smitten.

We are looking forward to a great year of singing on chapter shows and were are exited to have a joint prelims with the Far Western District. Not only will it be a mini international but it is in Vegas. Can't get much better than that.
