Grandmas Gone Wild

Two stories out of the Sacramento area have me wondering if there's something in the air besides the smoke coming from all those wildfires.

Thankfully, the two Grandma's who have gone wild have not gone the shirt lifting wild, instead they've gone the thieving wild.

The first story involves a Rocklin, California woman named Valerie Harris who was called the "Grandma Bank Robber."

During the early stages of the investigation, the task force dubbed the perpetrator “the grandma bank robber” because surveillance photos depicted the robber to be between her early 50s and early 60s.

Harris brandished a “Colt 454 Cowboy Style Pistol”during commission of a December 12, 2007 bank robbery at the U.S. Bank located inside the Safeway grocery store in Roseville, California. On December 18, 2007, HARRIS was arrested based on a citizen tip that she attempted to pay a debt with bank robbery loot. During the course of the investigation, the FBI uncovered additional fraud crimes committed by Harris . She also pleaded guilty to executing a fraudulent scheme to defraud Bank of America by cashing stolen and forged checks.

The Second story being prosecuted by the Sacramento United States Attorneys' Office involves a 74 year old woman from Stockton, California who plead guilty this week to stealing thousands of dollars in Social Security benefits.

Ramona Soto, a/k/a Feliciana Cortez Castro, is an undocumented alien from Mexico who came to the United States around 1960. Sometime around 1968 she somehow obtained a birth certificate of a United States citizen which she used to apply for a social security card. In 2000, Soto applied for and began receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration to which she was not entitled as an undocumented, illegal alien.

What is perplexing to me is that in the time that Soto has been in the United States there have been amnesty programs which she certainly should have qualified for, why she choose to live a charade and defraud the U.S. Government go beyond reason.

Mike Tyson Implicated in Murder for Hire

Dwayne Meyers, a former member of the Cash Money Brothers gang and now a federal witness testified today that Mike Tyson paid $50,000 for a contract to kill members of a Brooklyn drug gang that murdered his bodyguard in 2000.

Meyers said that Tyson and another person named Muhammad Nur each paid a $50,000 bounty on the heads of CMB leaders Damion "World" Hardy and Edward "Taz" Cooke.

Assistant U.S. Attorney James Loonam asked "Why would Mike Tyson put a hit out on Taz and World?" To which Meyers replied, "He was close friends with 'Homicide,'" referring to victim Darryl Baum by his nickname.

Darryl Baum, who was Tyson's bodyguard, was also suspected of shooting rapper 50 Cent the month before he was killed. Coincidentally 50 Cent later purchased Tyson's Connecticut Mansion.

Colombo Mafia Boss Charged with Racketeering Conspiracy

The Department of Justice announced today that Thomas Gioeli, the acting boss of the Colombo organized crime family of La Cosa Nostra (the “Colombo family”), John “Sonny” Franzese, the Colombo family underboss, and ten additional Colombo family members and associates were charged with racketeering conspiracy, robbery, extortion, narcotics trafficking, and loansharking. The charged racketeering predicate acts include, among others, four acts of murder, murder conspiracy, and felony murder.

The defendants were arrested today in New York were scheduled to be arraigned at the U.S. Courthouse in Brooklyn. Colombo family underboss John “Sonny” Franzese is currently incarcerated based on a violation of supervised release for a prior conviction.

According to the indictment and a detention memorandum filed by the government today, the charges are the product of a three-year investigation into the illegal activities of the Colombo family. The broad scope of the investigation includes historical acts of murder by the Colombo family as well as more recent criminal activity. The evidence relating to many of the charged crimes consists of hundreds of hours of recorded conversations secured by multiple cooperating witnesses who infiltrated the Colombo family.

Those indicted today include Thomas Gioeli, 55; John “Sonny” Franzese, 89; Dino Calabro, 41; Michael Catapano, 42; Frank Campione, 65; Joseph “ Joey Caves” Competiello; 36; Joseph Digorga, 67; Orlando Spado, 63; Angelo Giangrande, 55; John Capolino, 39; Nicholas Bova, 31; and Christopher Curanovic, 26.

The indictment and detention memorandum document the Colombo family’s brazen use of violence – including murder – to earn money, seek revenge, and obstruct justice, including:

The Felony Murder of Carlos Pagan. Colombo family captain Dino Calabro is charged with the January 9, 1992, armed robbery and felony murder of Carlos Pagan. Pagan, an armored truck guard, was shot and killed during a botched effort by Calabro and others to rob Pagan as he and a co-worker were delivering money to a check-cashing store in Brooklyn.
The Murders of John Minerva and Michael Imbergamo. Colombo family acting boss Thomas Gioeli and captain Dino Calabro are charged with the March 25, 1992, double murder of Colombo family soldier John Minerva and Minerva’s friend, Michael Imbergamo. Minerva was murdered as part of the bloody Colombo family war, which pitted two factions of the Colombo family against each other in a violent struggle for control of the family. Imbergamo was not a target of the murder, but was killed because he was with Minerva at the time of the attack. Colombo captains Joseph “JoJo” Russo and Anthony “Chucky” Russo and soldier Joseph Monteleone were previously convicted in the Eastern District of New York for their participation in this double murder.
The Murder of Frank Marasa. Acting Colombo family boss Thomas Gioeli, captain Dino Calabro, and soldier Joseph “ Joey Caves” Competiello are charged with the 1991 murder of Frank Marasa. On June 12, 1991, Marasa was shot multiple times outside his home in Brooklyn in retaliation for his perceived involvement in the murder of a Colombo family associate.

Drug Dealer Occupational Safety

A San Francisco drug dealer was recently sentenced to 22 years in prison following a conviction under federal RICO laws. Aquil Peterson, 24, of San Francisco, is a member of the Page Street Mob and had participated in the kidnapping, beating, and murder of Joseph Hearns in 2002. Last week another Page Street Mob member, Raymon Hill, was sentenced for his part in a murder conspiracy plot that was in retaliation for the killing of Eugene Hill.

Unfortunately CalOsha doesn't track occupational hazard statistics for drug dealers, but it would seem that it has to be one of the most dangerous career paths, even more so than skyscraper construction worker, police officer, or postal worker. I work at a computer all day long and can barely hang on from all the stress. I can't imagine having to worry about rival drug dealers, police, or working in those bad neighborhoods.

There has to be a better way to make a buck, especially if you don't mind your brains being splattered all over a sidewalk. So why do they do it? I know, the money obviously, but how good can it be? Most drug dealers are still living in the ghetto, have no medical/dental, and definitely no 401K. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

L.A. Unified Police Officer says District Retaliated for Reporting Sex Abuse

A report in the Los Angeles Times today claims that Los Angeles Unified Schoold District police officer, Luis Barraza, says that he was retaliated against for reporting that a substitute teacher sexually abused a student.

Luis E. Barraza said his actions embarrassed two South East High School administrators who failed to report the misconduct although required by law to inform authorities.

Earlier this month the district attorney's office charged two administrators with failing to report the alleged abuse.

Thirty-Eight Indicted for Computer Fraud Involving International Organized Crime

The Department of Justice announced today that thirty-eight individuals with ties to international organized crime have been charged in two separate indictments involving computer and credit card fraud schemes.

A federal grand jury in Los Angeles charged 33 individuals in a 65-count indictment unsealed today for their alleged participation in an international racketeering scheme that used the Internet to defraud thousands of individual victims and hundreds of financial institutions. Seven individuals were charged in a District of Connecticut indictment for their roles in an Internet phishing scheme, including two who were also charged in the Los Angeles case.

According to the indictment, the Romania-based members of the enterprise obtained thousands of credit and debit card accounts and related personal information by phishing, with more than 1.3 million spam emails sent in one phishing attack. Once directed to a bogus site, victims were then prompted at those sites to enter access device and personal information. The Romanian “suppliers” collected the victims’ information and sent the data to U.S.-based “cashiers” via Internet “chat” messages. The domestic cashiers used hardware called encoders to record the fraudulently obtained information onto the magnetic strips on the back of credit and debit cards, and similar cards such as hotel keys. Cashiers then directed “runners” to test the fraudulent cards by checking balances or withdrawing small amounts of money at ATMs. The cards that were successfully tested, known as “cashable” cards, were used to withdraw money from ATMs or point of sale terminals that the cashiers had determined permitted the highest withdrawal limits. A portion of the proceeds was then wire transferred to the supplier who had provided the access device information.

The individuals named in the indictment operated from locations in the United States and abroad including Canada, Pakistan, Portugal and Romania, and include both U.S. citizens and foreign nationals. Sonny Duc Vo, Alex Chung Luong and Leonard Gonzales are U.S. citizens. Nga Ngo, Thai Hoang Nguyen, Loi Tan Dang and Dung Phan are permanent legal residents of Vietnam. Hiep Thanh Tran is a U.S. permanent resident from Vietnam. Caroline Tath is a permanent legal resident of Cambodia. Hassan Parvez is a citizen of Pakistan. Rolando Soriano is a Mexican citizen and is currently charged in Los Angeles with illegal entry by an alien following deportation. Ovidiu-Ionut Nicola-Roman; Petru Bogdan Belbita; Stefan Sorin Ilinca; Sorin Alin Panait; Costel Bulugea; Nicolae Dragos Draghici; Florin Georgel Spiru; Marian Daniel Ciulean; Irinel Nicusor Stancu; Didi Gabriel Constantin; Mihai Draghici; Marius Sorin Tomescu; Lucian Zamfirache; Laurentiu Cristian Busca; Dan Ionescu; Marius Lnu; Alex Gabriel Paralescu; and Andreea Nicoleta Stancuta are Romanian citizens. An additional four individuals known only by their aliases, “Cryptmaster”; “PaulXSS”; “euro_pin_atm” and “SeleQtor” are believed to be Romanian citizens.

In a related case, seven Romanian citizens were charged in an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in New Haven, Conn., on Jan. 18, 2007, and unsealed on May 16, 2008, in connection with an Internet phishing scheme. The indictment alleges conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with access devices, conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The individuals named in the District of Connecticut indictment are Ciprian Dumitru Tudor, Ovidiu-Ionut Nicola-Roman, Mihai Cristian Dumitru and Petru Bogdan Belbita, all residents of Craiova, Romania; and Radu Mihai Dobrica, Cornel Ionut Tonita and Cristian Navodaru, all residents of Galati, Romania. Nicola-Roman was located in Bulgaria and arrested on an Interpol warrant on June 6, 2007. He was extradited to the United States on Nov. 8, 2007. Nicola-Roman and Belbita are also charged in the Los Angeles case.

MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced for Raping Two High School Girls

Carlos Vasquez Martinez, 24, Maryland, was sentenced yesterday to 235 months in prison or conspiracy to conduct and participate in racketeering enterprise activities of the MS-13 street gang.

According to the plea agreement, La Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13, is a gang composed primarily of immigrants or descendants of immigrants from El Salvador, with members operating throughout Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, Maryland and elsewhere. MS-13 is a national and international criminal organization with approximately 10,000 members.

Martinez participated in the gang rape of two girls on May 12, 2003. The crime, known to MS-13 gang members as a “train,” consisted of luring female victims to an MS-13 skipping party where gang members lined up and raped each girl. MS-13 gang members picked up two girls outside a high school during the early morning hours of the school day. The MS-13 members and the two girls went to Martinez’ home, where he and a number of other MS-13 members were present. The girls were taken to separate bedrooms in the residence and were told that they would have intercourse with all the MS-13 members in attendance. Martinez and Henry Zelaya held the first victim down and choked her and Oscar Ramos Velasquez, a/k/a “ Casper” brandished a gun. The victims estimated that more than 10 gang members came into the room in five minute intervals and raped them. After the rape, Martinez drove with several MS-13 members to Los Angeles, California, to avoid possible arrest for the rape.

On October 21, 2003, Martinez, along with other MS-13 members participated in an assault on a 17-year-old young man walking home from school. The victim was punched and struck with a wooden bat.

On August 3, 2006, Martinez volunteered to talk with law enforcement officials at the United States Attorney’s Office in Greenbelt, Maryland. Martinez was advised of his Miranda rights and was told that making false statements to federal agents was a crime. Despite these warnings, Martinez provided several different accounts of his activities on the day the two young women were raped at his apartment. Martinez initially denied living at the residence where the rapes took place, but eventually admitted that it was his home at the time and falsely denied being present for the rapes or having knowledge of the rapes until he had a conversation with Velasquez the next morning.

Oscar Ramos Velasquez, age 22, of Baltimore, was sentenced to 37 years in prison for conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering, conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise and conspiracy to commit assaults with a deadly weapon in order to maintain and increase his position in MS-13, assault with a deadly weapon in aid of racketeering and use of a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. Henry Zelaya, age 21, was sentenced to life in prison for conspiracy to participate in a racketeering enterprise involving murder, robbery, obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Both were convicted by federal juries after lengthy trials.

Alleged Mafia Underboss Charged in Big Dig Bribery Scheme

The Department of Justice announced today that Carmen "The Cheeseman" DiNunzio, 50, Anthony F. D’Amore, 55, and Andrew Marino, 42, have been indicted on a federal charge of conspiracy to bribe a state official in connection with a proposed sale of materials to a project related to the Central Artery Tunnel Project, otherwise known as the “Big Dig”. The indictment was the result of an FBI undercover investigation.

The indictment, and a detention affidavit filed with the Court, allege that DiNunzio is the underboss of the New England Family of La Cosa Nostra. It is alleged that, in 2006, DiNunzio, D’Amore, and Marino conspired to bribe a state official to obtain a lucrative contract to provide 300,000 cubic yards of “loam” (i.e., soil composed of sand, silt, manure, and clay) to the Massachusetts Highway Department for use on the Big Dig. It is alleged that, in connection with the bribery scheme, DiNunzio and D’Amore paid $10,000 to a person who they believed was a Massachusetts Highway Department inspector capable of ensuring that they obtain the lucrative loam contract but who was, in fact, an undercover law enforcement official.

According to an FBI affidavit, DiNunzio has been a made member of La Cosa Nostra since the late 1990s and was made underboss of the Patriarca Family in 2004 by Luigi "Louie" Manocchio.

If convicted, each of the defendants are facing a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and at least three years of supervised release.

Hollywoodscoop.com is reporting not only that Beyonce is pregnant, but that the pregnancy caused Jay-Z and her to rush their wedding last month because of her strong Christian beliefs. Someone needs to tell her that her beliefs really aren't that strong if she's in that situation at all.

Man arrested for trying to cash $360 billion check

If you are going to be an idiot, why not go big. Case in point, Charles Ray Fuller (aren't you just asking for trouble if you give Ray as your child's middle name?), 21, was arrested for forgery last week for trying to cash a $360 billion check.

But a sharp eyed bank employee who thought that the check might be suspicious contacted the account's owner who said that Fuller did not have permission to take or cash the check.

In addition to the forgery count, Fuller was also charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and possessing marijuana. Officers reported finding less than two ounces of marijuana (how much you want to bet he started out with two ounces before he thought up this brilliant scheme) and a .25-caliber handgun and magazine in his pockets. Fuller had said that he planned to open a record business with the money.

Two Men Sentenced For Human Trafficking And Alien Smuggling Charges

Brothers Victor Omar Lopez and Oscar Mondragon were sentenced yesterday for their roles in a scheme to smuggle Central American women and girls into the United States and hold them in a condition of forced labor in bars and cantinas in the Houston area. Lopez was sentenced to nine years plus one month in prison. Mondragon was sentenced to fifteen years in prison . Both were ordered to pay along with other co-defendants a total of over $1.7 million in restitution to the victims. In all, eight defendants have been convicted in connection with this scheme.

Lopez and Mondragon lured Central American women to the United States with promises of good jobs. However, once the young women arrived, they were forced to work in the bars and cantinas of the defendant and co-defendants selling alcoholic drinks to male customers. The women were subjected to numerous threats of harm to themselves and family members in order to compel their servitude or prevent flight prior to paying off their smuggling debts.

Trial Date Set for Suspected Doctor Pervert

Two years later, Maurice Wolin, the Doctor picked up during the Dateline NBC "To Catch a Predator" sting operation, has had his trial date set for September 5, 2008. His attorney powerhouse super lawyer Blair Berk (attorney to the likes of Lindsey Lohan and Mel Gibson) will argue pretrial motions beginning June 26. Berk filed a motion for evidence discovery Friday and has said that another motion seeking a change of venue is possible.

Commercial Bus Company Employees Indicted in Texas for Drug Trafficking

Eighteen persons, including alleged drug traffickers and the owners/operators of commercial bus companies operating from Mexico into the Rio Grande Valley to numerous U.S. cities and their drivers, have been indicted for transporting large loads of marijuana and cocaine in specially modified commercial buses and money laundering.

According to court documents, the suspects used specially modified commercial buses to smuggle contraband into the United States from Monterrey, Mexico. The buses were also used in the transportation of contraband from the Rio Grande Valley to Houston and Dallas, Texas; Allentown, Pa.; Joliet, Ill. and elsewhere.

The indictment alleges that the owners or managers of the bus companies, which had offices and terminals in Monterrey, Mexico and Rio Grande City, Roma, San Antonio and Houston, Texas, used their various companies as a front for their drug transport services, and hired drivers and loaders to transport the illegal cargo in hidden compartments built into the bus or in areas not accessible to the public.

In exchange for the services, the indictment alleges the owners/managers of the bus companies received thousands of dollars in kickbacks from the proceeds of the drug loads from which they drew their share and paid the drivers and loaders. The amount of the payment often depended upon the kind of drug, the size of the load and its ultimate destination. For example, if the suspects would charge from $500 per kilogram of cocaine bound for the U.S. side of the border to $7,000 per kilogram of cocaine bound for New York.

This drug transport service has been in operation since at least November 2001 and is responsible for transporting hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, thousands of pounds of marijuana from the border to points north and millions of dollars in drug proceeds south to Mexico. Undercover operations conducted as part of the investigation have resulted in the seizure of more than 570 kilograms of cocaine, 3,000 plus pounds of marijuana and the thousands of dollars in cash.

The indictment identifies Abel Trevino Jr., 43, of Houston; Oscar Jaime Garcia Prado, 42, a resident alien residing in Brookshire, Texas; Miguel Montemayor, 39, a resident alien residing in Roma, Texas; Victor Hinojosa, 41, a resident alien residing in Houston; and Eduardo Trevino, 40, of Linares, Mexico, as the owners/managers of the various commercial bus companies; Leticia Enedina Fournier, 58; Guadalupe Karr Cortez, 47, an illegal alien, Jesse Trevino, 48, a resident alien, and Alejandro Carmargo-Guerra, 59, a resident alien, all of Houston; Victor Rocha, 39, a resident alien residing in Dickinson, Texas, and Enrique Alvaro Saldana, 53, a resident alien residing in Roma, Texas, are alleged co-conspirators hired by the owner/managers as bus drivers and loaders who were paid by the owners/managers to transport and deliver the drug loads hidden aboard the commercial buses as directed by the owners/managers; Guadalupe Castaneda, 46, of Roma, Texas; Eduardo Cirilo, 42, of Pharr, Texas; Eduardo Salinas, 29, of Mission, Texas; Jose Armando Muniz, 33, of Weslaco, Texas; Rafael Armando Ramirez, 32, an illegal alien residing in the Houston area; Luis Larios, 36, and Robert Salazar Rivera, 48, both of Monterrey, Mexico, are accused of utilizing and paying for the services of the bus companies to transport loads of cocaine and marijuana to various locations in the United States.

Suspected Dr. Pervert Loses Appeal

Suspected Dr. Pervert, Maurice Wolin, aka "Tall Dreamy Doc" of Dateline NBC infamy has once again lost his bid to have charges thrown out.

The California 1st District Court of Appeal in San Francisco announced yesterday that they will not dismiss the charges of attempted lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years old.

Wolin was arrested back in 2006 after he fell for a Dateline NBC "To Catch a Predator" sting conducted in conjunction with the Petaluma Police Department and online watchdog group Perverted Justice. In the sting, decoys pretending to be under aged teens, chatted online with men who later made arrangements to meet for sex. Many of the other twenty-seven men who were arrested with him have already plead guilty. Wolin, however, with his considerable resources has fought tooth and nail to have the charges dropped claiming that he was entrapped.

Wolin, if convicted, faces up to four years in prison, the suspension of his medical license, and be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Police Nab Sperm Bank Bandits

A lab tech was arrested for stealing samples from the sperm bank where he worked. The AP reports that a relative was also arrested as an accomplice.

Allegedly, the loot was taken from a sperm bank in Aurangabad, India and taken to a doctor in Mumbai who was offered 101 vials for about $6.25 a pop.

The suspects face up to seven years in prison if convicted.

Hot Teacher Attacked By Student And Her Mom

Atlanta, GA-Seventeen year old Southside High School student Sequita Thornton and her mother, Georgia Thornton, 44, are being charged for battery after attacking Felecia Williams, Sequita's teacher.

WSBTV.com reports that Williams claims that Georgia Thornton visited the school to complain about the girl's treatment and attacked her during the meeting, knocking her to the ground, kicking and punching her and pulling her hair and that Sequita Thornton joined the attack.

Williams said she is afraid to return to the classroom now that her injuries have healed and Sequita Thornton has been allowed to attend classes again. Williams is suing the school district requesting to be paid her full salary rather than the two-thirds she receives under workers comp.

AMW Tip Leads to Arrest of Minnesota Futitive

The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force (MFTF) today announced the arrest of Robert Gaye, age 32, of Golden Valley, Minnesota. Robert Gaye is one of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office “Top Ten Most Wanted” fugitives. Gaye was profiled this past Saturday night on America’s Most Wanted (AMW) TV show and viewer tips led to his arrest. Gaye was the first fugitive to be featured locally on Clear Channel Outdoor’s digital billboards.

Hennepin County authorities wanted Robert Gaye for Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree related to the alleged sexual assault of a nine year old girl on May 2, 2006, in Golden Valley, Minnesota.

On Sunday, April 20, 2008 , at approximately 9:00 pm CDT , members of the Phoenix FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and Glendale police officers arrested Gaye at a soccer field located in Glendale, Arizona. The Minnesota Fugitive Task Force had previously developed information that Gaye may be in the Phoenix area and passed this information on to the Phoenix FBI office. The Phoenix FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force was prepared to act on any tips received from AMW after Robert Gaye was profiled on Saturday’s show titled “Fifty Fugitives From Fifty States”.

A federal criminal complaint filed February 4, 2008, in United States District Court, District of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charged Robert Gaye with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution based on a local complaint filed on May 15, 2006, in Hennepin County District Court, Minneapolis, Minnesota, charging Robert Gaye with Criminal Sexual Conduct in the First Degree. Gaye is currently being held in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Jail awaiting extradition back to Minnesota. Further questions regarding the case should be directed to the Golden Valley Police Department or the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.

CNN Newscaster Arrested With Methamphetamines

CNN newscaster Richard Quest, 46, was arrested early Friday in New York's Central Park the New York Post reports. Quest, who told the arresting officer, "I've got some meth in my pocket," was also found with a rope around his neck which was tied to his genitals and a sex toy in his boot. Quest was charged with loitering and criminal possession of a controlled substance, his companion was given a summons for not carrying any identification.

Quest's lawyer's version of the of the version had a much different spin of the events, "Mr. Quest didn't realize that the park had a curfew," Alan Abramson said. He was simply "returning to his hotel with friends."

I'm not the rubber necking type. Really. When there's an accident on the freeway, I drive right by it without even turning an eye or slowing down any more than the traffic in front of me. But there is something about these freak-o types like Jorge "Jordi" Bassas Puigdollers that fascinates me and I can't turn away. I mean look at this guy in the picture to the left. Here is a guy who has crossed oceans, traveled foreign lands, and been served by restraining orders. Yet, he goes on.

Puigdollers, a cab driver in his native Barcelona, Spain, who has attended all of Debbie Gibson's public performances since 2002, says "I don't want problems and I don't want to bother her so much." Nonetheless, he still plans on attending five Gibson concerts at a casino in Atlantic City in May. Puigdollers, if you read this, please let us all know what exactly are you thinking.

Michigan Man Who Used Limewire Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Charges

41-year-old Albin Martin Zelek II entered the guilty plea today in United States District Court in Detroit.

Zelek admitted to using Limewire peer-to-peer software to make child pornography images available on the Internet from October 2006 to May 2007. Among other pictures, Limewire users could download sado-masochistic images of minors as young as 5 years old from Zelek’s computer. On May 30, 2007, federal agents executed a search warrant at his home, resulting in the seizure of two laptop computers. Subsequent forensic examination revealed 50,018 images of child pornography and 103 movies.

United States Attorney Stephen J. Murphy said, “The number and character of the images in this case, recording as they do the destruction of the innocence of so many children, is mind-boggling and particularly disturbing. Given the danger to children posed by the growing global market for child pornography, these cases are an appropriate priority for federal law enforcement.”

Distribution of child pornography is punishable by at least 5 and up to 20 years imprisonment. Pursuant to his plea agreement, Zelek agreed to an advisory sentencing range of 12 ½ to 15 ½ years imprisonment. No sentencing date has been scheduled. Zelek has been in custody since February 28, 2008 for violating the conditions of his bond.

Suspected Father And Son Predators Arrested

Police arrested Russell Paul Hamblen, 50 and his son aul Allen Hamblen, 18, on Thursday. The elder Hamblen faces charches of including sex abuse, sodomy, sexual penetration and encouraging child abuse. His son is accused of sodomy.

The two were scheduled for arraignment Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Clackamas County Circuit Court, in Oregon City.

Police said Paul had been attending Wilsonville High School and the abuse took place inside the home where he lived with his father.

Detective Jim Strovink with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe there were likely more than six victims and they’re hoping they won’t be afraid to come forward and tell police, now that the father and son are behind bars.

FEDERAL GRAND JURY CHARGES MOVIE PRODUCER WITH WITH OBSCENITY VIOLATIONS

A producer of allegedly obscene movies and two companies owned by him have been charged by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., with operating an obscenity distribution business and related offenses, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division announced today.
In an indictment filed by the grand jury today, Malibu, Calif. resident John Stagliano and two of his companies, Evil Angel Productions, Inc. and John Stagliano, Inc., both located in Van Nuys, Calif., were charged with three counts of using a facility of interstate commerce to sell and distribute DVDs containing obscene films together with a movie trailer. According to the indictment, the defendants, producers of the films charged in the indictment, distributed the films to the public by means of common carrier and the Internet.

If convicted, Stagliano faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison on each of the obscenity counts charged and the corporations face a maximum penalty of $500,000 in fines per count.

The case is being prosecuted by the Obscenity Prosecution Task Force of the U.S. Department of Justice. The Los Angeles Police Department also assisted in the investigation.

Stranges Highway Pursuit Ends With Naked Van Surfer In Hospital

Unbelievably, a Reading, Pennsylvania man survived a 55 miles per hour crash after climbing on the roof of his van while driving. After the crash the unidentified man stripped naked and led the Reading Police Department on a highway foot chase. Neither Taser or pepper spray were able to stop the man who was eventually taken into custody by an officer who tackled him.

He has yet to be charged and remains in the Reading Hospital with a deep gash in his side.
