Let us all be modest enough to accept it that we all want to have the chocolate cake and we love it when we get the red cherry on the top..... Greedy!!! Isn’t it? Yes, but its true and completely justified since the days when a sliver fulfilled every need/expectation/desire are history.

Let us be a little modest again and clap for ourselves as we all (or most of us) know how to get the cake.....no guessing its hard work and there are no substitutes for it. But of course we have amongst ourselves the lucky ones, who are privileged enough to have the cake served to them in a silver plate. For the rest, yes it sounds boring, but the answer still is hard work.

Let us be a little modest again and trust me, there are only handfuls from the entire lot, who makes it large in life or who get the cake with the red cherry on the top. Ummm Reason???? Just hard work does not do the trick dear friends. The right ammo is Hard + Smart work. Pick up any name, any success story, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Ratan Tata, Ambani’s, Sunil Bharti Mittal ; they all are known because they worked hard and needless to say they worked pretty smart to achieve the milestones they achieved. They are the ones enjoying both the cake and the red cherry.

GAINING CONTROL OVER YOUR EMOTIONS – GAINING CONTROL ON YOURSELF

Controlling emotions doesn’t mean generally ignoring or curbing them. One should recognize them, in order to act appropriately, rather than ignoring and further worsening the situation. I control my emotions using the following 3 methods and it has really helped me a great deal:

1.Remove Yourself: Distance yourself away from the person or situation that is causing you trouble unless you are strong enough to face it.
2.Do Something Positive: Motivate yourself to do something productive rather than getting perturbed. For example if you are angry about some social issue try to do something for it rather sitting and frowning.
3.Journaling: Write down your emotions & feeling on a paper and just read it after you have become normal. This will actually helped you to tackle various similar situations in future better.

Ever noticed the relation between fire and ice???? One burns you the other cools you off. We mix them together we get life. And yes that is what life is indeed...... Good and Bad, Joy and Gloom it all goes hand in hand.
It all hits us in spikes. The ice or the positive spike brings along with it moment of elation and, the fire on the other hand leaves forlorn and gloom to give you company. God has the fire and ice all planned out for us. Our sins just take us closer. How to handle them? One should remember that both fire and ice are two transitory phases of life. Keep your feet grounded when its ice and the will strong when its fire.
If you can, for once imagine your life without fire and ice. It seems like vanilla, boring and dull.
Stop nagging, just live every phase, ice and fire with vigour. As one should enjoy without complaining of the speed breakers and the pits.

One of the professors at IILM Greater Noida changed my way of looking at “Time Management”....... I am sure it will help the readers too.

According to my professor there is no such concept as time management. Regardless of the advancement in the field of technology & science we will never be able to control or manage time. It is the art of self management that we all should master. It is only post this that we will be able to keep up with time. No rocket science in this, all we have to do is develop the habit of planning & making the routine for day to day work. The work is not yet done; in fact this is the difficult part, “following the routine or the plan religiously”. I know it’s easier said than done, but this habit reaps benefit of saving or managing our time.

A simple math, being 5 minutes late for our first meeting of the day, will lead to an extension in the total meeting time by 5 minutes. If this cycle repeats the entire day, it will lead you to lose good amount of time.

“Therefore it’s safe to say that planning and managing self is the key to Time Management.”

Social means taking consideration of others behaviour. As human beings are social animals they enjoy living together and enjoying life in communities or organized groups. Social media is a medium to socialize. The social networking sites helps build new relationships, keep in touch with old friends and make professional alliances. The social networking sites are a means to lower the social anxiety in people who are introvert and reserved plus removes difficulty as they feel comfortable in interacting via Internet.
These days social media has enhanced its scope and areas of function. It plays a significant role in business management, for e.g. Social Recruiting has become the new trend with 83 % companies now use or are planning to use the social media for recruiting. Linked In continues to lead in usage (and even more in successful hires). On this networking site CEOs of Fortune 500 Companies converse and connect These days social networking also helps in Building Reputation and Corporate Image amongst the general public. For example General motors is imposing its online equity of its brand and connect with its customers which account for 71 million active internet users in India .Moreover the word of mouth so generated through these social networking is a form of marketing that is earned by companies unlike traditional advertising.
For a Company Social media serves mainly 3 purposes :
1. Learn : What people say about your company
2. Reach out : Contact people offer them with more offers to shop
3. Broadcast : Publish promotional content
Social media has different meaning for a common man. like it helps resolve major life issues .A recent survey indicates that 60Million Americans received help with major life issues of changing jobs, buy anew car, new place to live, curing some illness ,etc.
59% students discuss topics through various reforms. Professional Veterans discuss professional matters through these sites for e.g. Report My Signal a website for Indian army.
Social media is also youth oriented as it serves as a mode of entertainment and many recreational activities.
My Space : It is the website which offers music services. There are 3 million bands and musicians which are registered at MySpace aiming to attract fans from among 250 million members.
Hence the social media is great source of entertainment, means to build professional alliances and also supports the indirect marketing of various product and services.

How yellow is our media?

I give great credit to the media on its work on the Lall murder case. They really pursued it till the end. But then I think about its pursuit of the trivial in the Commonwealth Games. And I could still give credit to its ability in sensationalizing the “bridge” and the “ceiling” collapses. Was it required? Everything started with the allegations of corruption in the various transactions by the CWG officers. These were indeed some “Masaledaar News”.

The point I am trying to make is, in such a mega event these mishaps are given. Although Ranting about it will lead to corrective measures but at the same time will create a lot of international and national negativity. But then someone has to rant about it. Our national media does it with panache!

According to me, Yellow journalism in India could be attributed to the presence of so many news channels, newspapers etc, all trying hard to increase their share of viewership and readership by showing, writing or publishing what the “junta” wants. The editors in there “Editorials” seem so distinguished yet they allow some articles to be published without weighing there latent consequences. Why should they worry when all other news agencies are doing the same? This could be a classic case of the Prisoner’s version of the game theory among the news agencies (I could be slightly wrong: just a passing momentary mental revelation).

I talked to a few friends who went to the different games venues and they were all praise for the infrastructure and the facilities. Even the athletes from different countries were praising the “Games village” for its beauty saying they didn’t want to leave the village. And did someone watch that opening ceremony? In my opinion it was as grand as it could be. I am not sure how our media was helping in the beginning, when all it did was over emphasize the trivial failures on the part of the CWG committee. Such minor incidents happen and they will continue to happen. Even during the world cup FIFA in South Africa there were mishaps. I am sure no even has been free from such mishaps.

I feel the media has been really successful in criticizing the CWG management to the extent that we Indians feel negative about the whole event.

But clap one hand not sounding! - (Laekin taali ek haath se nahin bajti!)

People in the news agencies are not aliens. They emerge from amongst us, the commoners. We make the choice of reading something or discarding. And on an average (purely intuitive estimate) we generally like to hear Masaledaar news. If that’s the case then why would the media publish stuff that we don’t want to know?

I Have A Dream...

"I Have a Dream" is a ten minutes public speech delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. on August 28, 1963, during the "March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom". Through his speech he called for an end to racial inequality and discrimination. The speech was very much appreciated and supported that it was ranked the top American speech of the 20th century. People say that the way he delivered the speech, it inspired and educated not just the people who listened to him, but it also moved the whole of America.

King Martin Luther insisted that along with the formation of the Constitution of America, every American was bound to an unsaid promise and must fulfill it without condition. The promise as said by King Martin Luther was that -- all black men as well as white men would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He said that a day will come when America will rise above the color of the skin and will judge people by their creed. A day will come when all sections of the society will sit down together at a table of brotherhood.

47 years have passed... did that marvelous speech of the 20th century still holds any place in the current scenario??? The answer is...NO. In fact the scenario has never changed. It is same as it was 47 years ago. The same old racial discrimination among white and black men has never changed. Even though the President of America has changed from white to black man, from Lyndon Baines Johnson to Barack Obama, yet the racial discrimination has shown no change in its growth rate. The same Americans, who first elected Barack Obama as their President, didn't hesitated to put a point on his caste, on him being a black man, even on his nationality. In fact, the situation is worse. Muslims are treated as terrorists and untouchables too. In case of any emergency, none of the Muslim countries of Asia are given visa to enter the American boundaries. Only speech never makes difference.

I Have a Dream too... I also want an end to racial discrimination, caste inequality, child labor and untouchability. But what if I also move out of my home and give a 10 minutes speech to 2,00,000 listeners, will it help? No. A speech can only educate people and create a sense of awareness, but it won’t be able to motivate them. One needs to understand that no Government or philosopher or scholar will come to put an end to these decades’ old rituals; it is our duty to start working on it and create an example for others to follow.

Remember, we don’t need speech for motivation, instead, action for the desired result. Start with your own self.

Powerful music, consistent drumming and clever use of India’s three colours - green, white and orange - emblazoned the first 30 minutes before the 4,000 athletes from 71 countries entered the fray…..

India showcased its variant culture and tradition in the most Incredible way…….The whole world is again forced to say -----“ INCREDIBLE INDIA !! “…..
It was the moment to be cherished forever…..It will be embossed in the hearts of the people till eternity…..

Wangala drummers from Meghalaya, the energetic dancing drummers from Karnataka Dollu Kunita, a folk drum Punjab Dhol, Koya from Orissa, Gajja Dhol from Maharashtra, and Bihu drummers from Assam also added to the charm of the performance…….INDIA again emerged as one strong nation holding the essence of UNITY IN DIVERSITY…….

I can still hear the music in my head and I wish it stays that way. More I heard it more I got used to it. Never have I heard “Thumri” live before. Yesterday, most of the IILM students witnessed a blessed evening. Renowned artist Vidushi Savita Devi visited our campus and performed. She is from a well-known family of the Banaras Gharana from which many exponents of classical and light classical Indian music have come. She is the daughter of Smt. Siddheshwari Devi, who was regarded as the Queen of Thumri. She has studied classical music from Hindu Banaras University and received a post-graduate degree and has received the Sangeet Alankar from Poona. She founded the Smt. Siddheshwari Devi academy in 1997, which educates, trains students and facilitates propagation of Hindustani style of Indian classical music and light classical music.

I have had many opportunities to witness the events organised by Spic Macay since my school days. The most memorable was when Pandit Ravi Shankar performed in my college. The audience was in complete silence as though they were witnessing a celestial orchestra. Last evening for me was no different. I must credit the “Cultural Club” for being able to organise the event so well. The event was attended by many students and faculty and all seemed to enjoy the evening with their own assimilation and perception of the music.
Vidushi Savita Devi spoke of the various ragas and styles in Hindustani classical music. She mentioned that in ‘Thumri” improvisation is possible and allowed and hence it is called light classical music since it doesn’t have the rigid rules which are followed in other styles such as ‘Khayal’. She emphasized on how different artists give their own personal touch to the same style of music with their voice and emotions. This was evident when two of her students accompanying her sang. The performance started with Guru vandana.

Today we wait for the verdict on Ayodhya – Babri Masjid. Many of us fear disharmony between the Hindu and the Muslim communities in the country. We forget our heritage at such times. There have been times when people from both these communities shared knowledge and added to the rich culture of India. Vidushi Savita Devi talked with honour about here Gurus who were Muslims. There was Muslim on one of the instruments as well. There is so much harmony in their music and there is no conflict due to religion. They are bonded by the richness of our culture.

Carnage.......................

It was the fourth match of the Tournament (IntraIILMCricket) a Quarterfinal between seniors team C and team from section H. It was a hot sunny day, and rightly after winning the toss Rupesh (captain sec H) elected to bat first.

Start was not steady for section H, as Anurag Chauhan Man of the Match from the first match departs cheaply in the third over for hardly any runs on the board, but then Rishabh Pathania along with Aditya Khurana reconciled the innings for their team and H didn’t lost any wicket for next 5-6 overs, Good part of their partnership was they kept the score board moving, and it was showing 45 in 8^th over when Rishabh departs for 14. But Aditya was steady at the other end, and he scored well played 47 before getting his timber disturbed. But the final blow was still to come from Section H team, which was Ankit Aggarwal who played a very important cameo of 24 runs in just 7 deliveries, helping his team to a healthy total of 131 in 15 overs.

But the CARNAGE begins in the second half of the match and in the very first over Rupesh Kumar Chaturvedi (3-1-3-4) bowled a Double wicket maiden the very first over of their innings, breaking the spinal cord of their opposition; same was continued by his other bowling partners too. Wickets were falling like a house of cards for seniors team C, thanks to Both Rupesh & Peeyush who sent back total 6 players of their opponents in their respesctive 6 overs and the delights of reaching Semifinals were there on the faces of each and every member of Section H team. Which they did very handsomely too, beating seniors team by a big margin of 70 runs.

THE CANVAS OF IMAGINATION
PRESENTED BY THE EDGE MAGAZINE CLUB

It was really a memorable moment when the newly formed edge magazine club came out with its very first event i.e THE CANVAS OF IMAGINATIONS.
We witnessed a large number of enthusiastic students turning up to try their luck by writing their thoughts. Few images were shown and students had to write on them while correlating them with each other.

To our charm we found our first year students as well as some second year students joggling through all those 40 mins .They all were giving their best efforts. We found beautiful drawings as well as quantified abstracts and now when results are to be declared by this week we all are in dilemma as to which are the top 7 entries amongst 50.All the participants have attempted so well that it’s really difficult to choose best amongst all.
I am thankful to my whole team who did a good job till the last moment. It was really difficult to manage everything without their cooperation. We all promise you that edge magazine club will be back soon with a new series of competitions…….

The Battle Begins…

The Battle Begins…
So as we all were aware that sports club after a successful league of Basketball had announced another event i.e. a cricket tournament, Intra IILM Cricket Tournament.
So as per schedule i.e. 23rd of September, the tournament kicks off with an inaugural match between Section - E & Section – H. Teams were excited so as the officials, the core committee members with the start of this much awaited tournament. Here are the names of few committee members behind this tournament:-

Sambit Mohanty,
Vaibhav Singh,
Shampy Taneja
It was the first Match and both the teams were on the field before time warming up for the match, At 12:45 umpires called the captains for the Toss and it was section E, who won the Toss and elected to Bat first. So by 1’o Clock Section E openers in white jersey were on the crease and Rupesh with his team in Black jersey was ready to deliver the first ball of the tournament. Their start was steady but in the fourth over E lost their most valuable Batsmen Swaroop Das (16) to Sunil of Section H, but still next few over’s were difficult to handle for section H, as at one point E were cruising at 58/2 in 8 over’s, thanks to the major contributor Praful, who scored 27 and was the leading scorer for his team. But it was a comeback time for Section H boys and they did same by restricting section E boys to only 95 in 15 over’s.

The task of chasing 95 never looked difficult for boys in Black, from section H as their openers were looked never in trouble while chasing the required target. Anurag Chauhan was on fire right from the beginning he scored not out 51 of just 31 deliveries with 4 sixes to his name, and stayed there till the last run was scored by his team. His partner Aditya Khurana played his hand too, and contributed valuable 28 of 21 balls. So it was like a Cakewalk for Section H beating their opponents from Section E, which they did by 9 wickets. So in all it was a nice start to the competition, hopefully will continue getting better, with competition bar rising match by match.

So by 1’o Clock Section E openers in white jersey were on the crease and Rupesh with his team in Black jersey was ready to deliver the first ball of the tournament. Their start was steady but in the fourth over E lost their most valuable Batsmen Swaroop Das (16) to Sunil of Section H, but still next few over’s were difficult to handle for section H, as at one point E were cruising at 58/2 in 8 over’s, thanks to the major contributor Praful, who scored 27 and was the leading scorer for his team. But it was a comeback time for Section H boys and they did same by restricting section E boys to only 95 in 15 over’s.

The task of chasing 95 never looked difficult for boys in Black, from section H as their openers were looked never in trouble while chasing the required target. Anurag Chauhan was on fire right from the beginning he scored not out 51 of just 31 deliveries with 4 sixes to his name, and stayed there till the last run was scored by his team. His partner Aditya Khurana played his hand too, and contributed valuable 28 of 21 balls. So it was like a Cakewalk for Section H beating their opponents from Section E, which they did by 9 wickets. So in all it was a nice start to the competition, hopefully will continue getting better, with competition bar rising match by match.

COMMONWEALTH GAMES DELHI 2010: THE REALITY.....

On 21st September, Ms. Shiela Dikshit the Chief Minister of Delhi said that the foot over bridge that collapsed was not for games officials or players but for the common people.....

So according to her it is ok if a bridge made for us 'The Common Man', collapses and n number of us get killed!!!!!!! Aam Admi ki Congress!!!! Hathi Ke Daant Khaane ke aur, Dikhaane ke aur.

The 70,000 crores spent could have eliminated POVERTY from India....

We are not allowed to use our roads (which are at most places full of potholes)....

Delhi Government has levied extra taxes for CWG....

CWG officials say that our standards of hygiene are much lower than other countries....

The ministers and office bearers connected with the CWG deserve to be called "Traitors" as they have sold off all their conscience and the image of the country for their personal benefits’....

Shouldn't a criminal case for Treason be filed against all officials and ministers involved?

I went through a self working book last night and thought of sharing the same with you. Name of the book is FISH! Written by Stephen C. Lundin, PH. D, John Christensen and Harry paul

Ad MAD

You all must have noticed the posters in our college. You must have received mails about this. You must have heard about this from friends. If you haven’t, then, well, here you go!
The Marketing Club is organising an event – AD MAD on the 22nd of September’10.

About the event
This event would involve team work, using some brains and creativity. This will certainly involve a lot of fun. You’ve got to make a team of 4 to 6 members and each section must have one. An ad on a product has to be made. Simple! You can enact it and win 3500 bucks. Simple! But all this happens only when you clear the prelims first.
Let’s talk about the prelims then
I talked to a few people interested in participating and they seemed to have a few questions regarding the prelims. Read on to clear your doubts.
1. Starts 11:30 am on Saturday the 18th of September
2. Last day to register 17th September (tomorrow, do it)
3. You can prepare an ad of your choice (only for the prelims) and enact it or perform it.
4. Venue: Audio-Video room, opposite the UG admissions, ground floor. Find it out if you don’t know
5. Get on with the day (classes, hehe!). Selected teams will be notified

That should be it for the prelims. Read on for the “finals”.

It makes me very happy to see all these sponsors. The copper man is; hmm I don’t know what to say.

The Finals

1. The selected teams will be given a product right after 12:00 am, Tuesday morning. Yes, that’s right after Monday (night). No one sleeps anyways! So you can get the news and remain sleepless.
2. You will have a full day to prepare your ad and enact it on the 22nd of September, Wednesday. That is it, may be!!

Well if the grapevine is to be believed then it’s pretty sure that BrandRovers, the marketing club of IILM, who were responsible for organizing the first marketing fair of the college, are doing it again.

Well, after the huge success of PUZZLE 2010(Marketing Fair), it was quite evident that they will return with this marketing extravaganza. Although, the news down the gossip gallery is that the fair will take place sometime in November this year, but when the club people were contacted for further clarification, they chose to keep mum about the dates. Talking to the blogging team, they told that when the time is right they will make the official announcement. Yet they confirmed that this year will see a much bigger, better and an extraordinary Marketing Fiesta….

The bars have been raised; let’s just keep our fingers crossed……

Human right number 21: The right to democracy!!!!!

What does democracy really mean? Literally, democracy is a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges. Democracy in real sense is Rhapsody of Political Ideas, Hope, Faith, Expression and Power to be Yourself. Democracy is the essence of being human. But today in a country like India there is more of competitive autocracy in place of democracy.

Democracy was defined by Abraham Lincoln as, “Democracy is the government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

But today we the Indians have redefined it as, “Democracy is the government of the cash, by the religion, for the ministers.” In India people consider all the rights given to them but no one bothers about their duties. As a result, the voting rights are not utilized in the way they should be and the government so formed is all a result of corrupt activities. I believe, “Indians don’t caste their vote, they vote their caste.” Elections in India are corrupted by three powers: money power, gun power, muscle power. This the reason that in a recent survey of about 120 countries of world to find out the order of corruption free government, Sweden ranked no 1 and India was around 91, this shows the quality of governance India is very unsatisfactory. Moreover you will be shocked to know that nearly quarter of Indian parliament members facing criminal charges are part there of. Indians elected people like Phoolan Devi who was charged with 48 crimes and Shibu Soren who murdered his own secretary. This is the reason we say Democracy is not practiced in all its sincerity in our country. All the ideals of our constitution like Sovereignty, Secular, Socialists, Democratic, Republic, Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity are not imbibed by political class and by the citizens as well. They do exist but only on paper and not on the ground.

So this is the time to get off your reclining chairs and start a movement and then see who can stop a wild fire in a day forest.

Celebrities and Brands

Brands are about promises and trust. Consumers always trust a brand that has credibility. Now when a company chooses a brand endorser, they mostly consider a potential prospect, existing costumer or a celebrity. CELEBRITY??Yes, a celebrity is chosen to provide an inspirational value to a brand and in a country like India, Celebrities are God. People believe people who can be recognized easily. But the question here is, how relatable and believable the use of celebrity can be??

Imagine the movie ‘3 Idiots’ with high achieving professionals like Rohit Bal, Sanjeev Kapoor and Javed Habib. Would it be still the same for you? Would it have the same reach? We know that all the above three professionals are legends in their own field and may have done well for the brands they endorse. But when you have to reach a large cross section of mass India, that’s not so homogenous, who would you rather put your money in?

It always take a well known face to lift your scripts and give it a mass acceptance.India- loves new ideas but only when it comes with familiar face. A face which can woe her and make her feel close to her heart.

In the end it’s not so much about celebrities like film stars, cricketers or common man. It’s all about entertainment, learning and the role that brands play in our lives. If the brand connects with me, enlightens me and captures my mind, then that’s all it matters.
