Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

i have to tell you that i have a new homepage now! i wonder, how many giraffes have their homepage at all? and how many of those then have a blog? and then make fotografs? i guess i have to find out someday. so, it's www.ikeathegiraffe.com and you'll see this blog has moved there. but it's much nicer, because i have a really big background fotograf there - check it out! you may even need to borrow a larger screen to see that, actually :)

if you are already here, you can probably see some new links and old links too on the right. so, the second big news is that i have a new facebook fan page! now you can become a friend or a fan or both. btw, did you notice - facebook, friend and fan are all starting with "f", just like "fun"?

also, i'm still working on both the homepage/blog and facebook pages. it's not so easy at all, when you are a giraffe, like me. especially typing, hehe :) so, please comment what you think of it and share some ideas what you'd like to see here! since i have no fotografs this time, thanks for now and cu l8r!

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

Happy New Year! You know, these new years just sneak up on you, especially when you are a giraffe, like me. for example, i was watching TV and voila, there is this new year, suddenly. i like sneaking, as you may know :)

but also, there was this snowstorm in this little town that i live and they had most snow ever! so, that's also most snow i have ever seen here in Kadriorg too! so, i was watching thru my window like this

while the very big snowstorm was on a break, i went to check out, how much snow there is -

- apparently A LOT! then, of course i wanted to make a little snowman real quick. here's me modelling:

and here's the little snowman itself! i guess it does not look anything like the model actually, especially the nose!

so that was it because then it started snowing again, plus i felt i had to get some christmas cookies right away :). but feel free to check out couple of other fotografs of the first snow on facebook. c u l8er!

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

now, finally i have made my selection of christmas cookies fotografs! watch out #moose and #giraffes! this is especially for you, but also all my other friends and fans! thank you for reading my blog! although i am such a little giraffe, people all around the world are following this blog. so nice! thanks and merry Christmas!

anyways, i have to tell you, making christmas cookies is sort of addictive. especially eating them. i think these cookies are now my favorite food #2 after acacia leaves. therefore i have made already two large batches of cookies. so here come the fotografs of it.

first of all, i started off with my friends moose:

i must say, cutting and baking is the easy part. but the nice coating - quite hard. especially when you are a giraffe, like me. here's however the first one of many, again, moose:

after many hours, all the moose are ready!! jeii. happy x-mas my moose friends!

ok, now, this is the last fotograf, then i am really going to eat one of these.. really!

with the help of my friends at home, look at this big giraffe that we have made! this is like twice as big as me! i think, this is no doubt my favorite gingerbread of 2009:

so many cookies and only one of me! let me just get this one over here...

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

finally finished with making christmas cookies. have to tell you, this year i have probably made the most christmas cookies of any giraffe in the world, hehe. i hope to post the fotografs very soon! or you can go little sneak-peek over here. but in the meantime, i paid a visit to the new Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, especially the VIP area. as you may have noticed, giraffes are not your regular passengers, but they need some special treatment, therefore they go through vip area, i think. so, what we have here:

behind me you can see planes. currently i am in this area, which is the furthest away from the main building, so for plane- or giraffe-lovers, this is the place to be. if any giraffe is travelling, you'd be the first one to spot it.

somehow this is also the non-schengen area, so hardly any passengers here. i'm waiting they open up a direct route to madagascar, so i could come and enter/leave this way.

now, this is the special treatment i was talking about :) wohooo!

on this fotograf, we can play "spot the giraffe". i was trying to eat it, but then i realized it's plastic. hmm.

and now, the VIP room. here's where presidents, rockstars and giraffes wait for their planes. pretty cozy, i'd have to say. and here is the guest book too. lots of good wishes and other comments. i added mine as well..

so, that's the new airport in couple of fotos. i saw also some other things, like monstrous luggage sorting machine - it's big like 100 giraffes - but you can't fotograf everything in these places, you know, for security reasons. so, welcome to the airport where i usually start my travels and - in case you will not be here for christmas cookies fotografs in time - merry christmas!

..where Ikea finds out where snow is made

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

whew, last week i had lots of fun making christmas cookies and i will post some fotografs as soon as i have them sorted. but you can check one with moose over here.

but yesterday, i had a great adventure! you know, for a lot of giraffes (originally from Africa), it has been a mystery for a while to figure out where does snow come from. so, finally i had a chance to find out and i have to tell you real fast (christmas cookies can wait :)

so, apparently it is quite simple: snow is made with special machines and wind blows it away to many places so everybody can ski. here's pictures of one such place with those machines:

in fact, here you can see there is only one snowmachine right now. but there were some men at work and so they brought another one so i could take a proper fotograf:

:) somehow this snow also makes the sun grow big and then almost like dissappear. in this next fotograf you can guess where the snowmachines are. hint hint: they are not both on one side ;-)

from these pictures you might think they are taken in the middle of the night or something. guess what, they are not (because there is sun outside) :) but on this next one you can see it is actually morning outside:

plus, you can see here how the snow then goes up and wind takes it away to other places too, like Kadriorg for example. want to know where it is? it's not far from me on the bank of Pirita river, see map here.

so, that's it! by the way, did i mention that it was -12*C outside? i have to say, this is pretty cold, my nose was totally frozen after that. i had to make myself some acacia-leaf-tea in fact, so i'm fine now :) next time i will definitely take my friend Angel with me. you know, he's an ice-bear! he should love it!

Here comes the last set of fotografs that i have from my trip to Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo few weeks ago. apparently, there are many more fun animals to see in the zoo besides my brothers giraffes that i was talking about in the last post. so, first of all, there are, of course, my friends meerkats:

Guess what, there is a meerkat on this fotograf! staring right at me. as well as on this next one. these meerkats are not very easily noticed with this background you know :)

so, after a good chat with meerkats, we went for a skyride across the park. i have to say i used the chance to take a few bites from the treetops as well...

but here's a little areal view of the tortoise on blanks of wood. apparently sunbathing :)

onwards, to the big white cats:

so, here i tried to ask them why they look exacly like zebras? but somehow i could not go near enough so they could hear me. anyway, i think the zoo did not have more room for zebras, so they have zebra-colour big white cats instead. (you know, there are zebras also, together with giraffes for example on this fotograf and hippos, but not that many..)
or, maybe the tigers got loose and ate some zebras :( and now because of that they all turn white like that? many questions unanswered..

and here's me with a bunch of alligators. they all slept there like treetrunks and were not much fun at all. so only one fotograf of them:

apparently, there is a shiamang feeding a baby shiamang, as you can see from this next foto where i am trying to make a shimp impression:

Of course, there are many more animals in this zoo, but i didn't fotograf all of them because they were busy making other things. then, many were on a lunchbreak also and some others did not want to be fotografed at all for some reason. but you can go and check them out, like for example my funny friends lemurs :)

and for all meerkat fans, here's a link to a meerkat cam on Cheyenne Mountain Zoo - they are out when there is no snow.

So, like i said, i finally had the chance to meet my brothers!! I have to say, they are in the zoo and not in the wild, but hey - i also flew on the plane! I have to say, i was very exited, so i almost forgot to take fotografs. so you'll see these have been taken by other people. not to mention the fotografs not done by the place where they were given cookies. i will post some video link on that on twitter/facebook later on. so, without much more saying, here come the fotografs:

That's if for now. i have to say we did not know back then that they had three more giraffes behind-the-scenes: Bengwa, Timmy and Tango Tango (Ugandan giraffe). ..where Ikea is sunbathing in S. Florida

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

Now, I have to tell you about my trip to florida when I was vacationing. You may already know that i have this one favorite hobby to sunbathe. In fact, this is one of the favorite hobbies of all giraffes, you know. That's why we have these big brown spots - from sunbathing a lot!

So, when I was in florida, i had to go and try out these beaches. and then i made some fotografs. Here are some of them taken in Melbourne beach area. First, i discover this small hole:

.. and voilà, here comes a big hole!

here, it's me talking to my shade. as you know, i like shades a lot too!

.. and now, some sea as well. i think it is not obvious, but there are thousands of fish on this fotograf. unfortunately, they are very small, even tiny ones right in the middle of these waves!

i had to take out my slippers because of this hot-hot sand. It was definitely the hottest sand since mexico, hehe :)

So secondly, I also checked out the beach in Key West. Not so many waves there, i'm afraid, even less small fish. So not too many fotografs this time. But at least a few proper fotografs of me sunbathing :)

So that's it for this time. I still have a few fotografs of me in the Tampa Zoo, so i hope to get those posted quite soon as well! CU later!

Hello there! It's me, Ikea!

I have now finally had time to organize my fotografs from the vacation. so here it's me in Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda Hotel in Quintana Roo near Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

First of all, this is a picture from the hotel where i meet with the locals. They are swans called Blues and Esmeralda. They work as hotel towels in their free time, but normally they just go from room to room to sleep in guest beds when people are out on the beach.

Most of the day i was doing my favorite thing - sunbathe - by the pool. So here it's me sunbathing:

But there were lots of things to do on vacation in Mexico. For example, drink coctails. my favorite coctail is 'blue giraffe' hehe :)

other things to have fun in Mexico:

1. go hiking in the wild-wild jungle in search of acacia leaves:

Hello there! It's me, Ikea.
I am now trying to post more fotografs more often. so, this is what i did for the weekend - i went to see some other sports called triathlon. Apparently you have to swim, go biking and then run as well. it's like xdreaming, but more boring, somehow. So this time, i only went to see. I have also seen this guy Tomm on tv - usually when i get up in the morning, he is on tv - so, i had to check out how he is doing.

Hello there, it's me Ikea! You must have been thinking that i have gone back to Jonköping? Hehe, not really :) Like, for example, couple of days ago, i went xdreaming. As it appears, it is a lot of fun, even for a giraffe, like me. So, here is what happened:

so here i am, waiting for the start. Unfortunately no other giraffes participating today! I think they were afraid because of their long necks might get stuck to a tree when canoeing..

anyway, there a lot of things to do in this competition. for example, here it's me at a big tower, which is long like a giraff's neck - see yourself:

so, here i had to go up and then climb down like this guy with this funny hat like this:

I don't know any other giraffe wearing hats like this when they climb. Or any other animal that i know! Even my friend Muzzy doesn't wear it, even though he could. From time to time at least, for example when he goes shopping (:

So here it's me on a mountainbike. Not too many fotografs from me on a bike, because it is very hard to take fotografs at the same time when biking. so, that's the only one, really.

Next after mountainbiking it's canoeing. I like canoeing a lot. This is what many giraffes do in Africa when they have free time - they go canoeing. Of course the rivers are much longer, but this is also quite fun because of the trees on the river. you know, i have never tried this canoe-limbo before. it is quite hard, when you have such a long neck, as we, giraffes do. but it is great fun. So, anyway, here i am, looking for shortest way to the river.

Also, i wanted to get away quickly because i saw these Vahuri Inglid coming (on the background). Luckily they had to stop and i was ready to go.
So funny that i have also a friend called Angel. He is an ice-bear. He doesn't look much like these angels at all..

.. and here i will soon catch this one. It was easy for me to notice these markers in the woods, because they are orange, like me :) Orange is my favorite colour.

Somehow i got stuck here..

Another thing what to do in this competition is swimming. I don't like swimming very much, i have to say for some reason. but anyway, i will because i want to catch these people there at the buoy, so one-two-free.. here i go!

Right before finish, there was also this funny game of crocket. I have never played this crocket before. It is a little hard for me because normally you have a long stick for these wooden balls. since i only have short legs, i had to use my nose instead and it took some time to get it right!

So, after many hours of fun, it was finish! I don't have any good pictures of finish, because batteries run out. but anyway, i will post a picture of me eating blueberry. because it was so long day, after a while i got a little hungry. so it was good that there were so many blueberries. they don't taste quite as well as acacia leaves, but they are all right.

Hi again! Finally i managed to post some fotografs from my trip to gran canaria. Muzzy told me, that is one of his favorite places, because of the name hehe..
so, here is me in Las Palmas beach

there was quite a bit of wind, so if you look very closely, you can see me shivering. giraffes have a long neck, like mine, so it catches all the wind and makes you shiver. i will later put up a photo where i tried to hide from the wind!

So, here is me again! actually, i am trying to go and sneek up to these trees in the background to have lunch. guess what i will be eating ;) i like sneaking a lot. i think sneaking is one of my 3rd best hobbies besides taking fotografs and many things starting with S-s. so, here i have sneaked up to a mountain, look:

here again i went to sneak in the mountains and trees and ended up on a little hilltop :)

oops, here, a mountain has sneaked up on me, i'm afraid (:

a few more fotografs from different places. also there you see one fotograf with me and the road and a cactus. cactuses are not much fun. my nose was later all full of thorns like a small hedgehog. i spent all day trying to get rid of them. luckily, i don't have any photos from that.

here is also some kind of nice place to sit (: also, on this picture, i look a little bit surprised, don't you think? i am not so surprised usually.. but, I have more fotografs from this trip, so i will try to put them up later!

Hi all! Now i think everyone has been waiting for new fotografs from me. So, first here is a couple of them, which i have promised for long time from this new place i live. First, here is a picture of me caught reading magazines and saying "hey":

sometimes i like to go to magazines to read them instead of having the magazines come to me. because when you are giraffe, like me, you never know, which magazine you like to read, when you actually get it. so, it is better to go to their place, so you can choose.

now, this is this bamboo basket where Angel is hiding himself all the time when we play hide-and-seek. right now he has gone somewhere and i have taken his place. this basket is actually a good place to hide, especially if someone wants to take you to washing or you simply want to chat with your friends in the dark. but, as you can see, it is not so easy to get out afterwards, hehe

and this, is where i sleep sometimes, when i have time. it is also good for just sitting or resting my neck after a good hide-and-seek game. anyways, i have to go now!

now, apparently i went to visit an office, the place for work and fun. usually, i watch tv at this time, or sometimes we play hide-and-seek with Angel. but he is no fun to play with, becoz he always hides in the bamboo-basket. so therefore, instead we chase saab and volvo. so, where was i..

here i first checked out all the plants in the office. none of them taste good, in fact, most of them taste really bad. so instead, i tried to program a tamagotchi out of the egg-timer. well, almost.. as much as giraffs know about programming, hehe!

couple of fotografs here from me doing some research. to be honest, it has taken me all this time to get this research done. thats what i have been doing all this time! -besided watching tv, traveling, eating acacia leaves, playing hide-and-seek and taking fotografs.

because i had so much to do, i had to make copies of me, so i would get all this things done:

Hello again, it's me, Ikea.

Looks like no-one has been writing my blog while i have been doing other things, so i have to do it myself. So, let me tell you about my trip in Helsinki, while you are here.

First, as you can see, me here on this big red boat. It is not the first thing for me to be on a boat, you know. Before i moved to Estland, i was born in Sweden. So i know boats quite well and they are fun. Not so much being outside on the boat with this weather. I had to carry a large bag so that the wind wouldn't blow me away.. scary!

After a while, i managed to get to Finland. I'm glad they did not have sniffer dogs at the port. Sniffer dogs are no fun at all. Once my friend Muzzy introduced me to one sniffer dog, it was very scary. Sniffer dogs are only fun from a distance.

So, here's a couple of things we did in Helsinki. First we went to eat at Pizza buffet. It is good to have some nice pizza from time to time you know. I like vegetarian.

Then we went shopping. Actually, here i am trying to do my best Shaun the Sheep impression ;)

And here's find the Ikea after all this shopping hehee. We also went to do some sightseeing in the night, and this is pretty much all, before i had to get back to the red boat. Since it was my favorite day - Friday, we had to wait with all these other people trying to get to Estland. Estland seems to be very popular on Fridays for Finns!

And then we came back and that's it. I had this plan of bringing my friend Angel some tupla from Helsinki, but ooops.. i think i was a bit hungry on the way back..

Anyway, in the meantime, i have also moved, as you can see from my name. so i am not in Kalamaja anymore! I will try to post some fotografs of my new place soon. I wanted already to post today, but Volvo and Saab ate them. Oh, im not sure you know Volvo and Saab! well, i will introduce later!

where Ikea goes to Lohu and discovers a shadow

now, i have to say i have been busy and didn't have time. for example, the other day i was playing hide-and-seek with Angel. and it took me all day to find out that he was in the washing machine. he-hee, i almost didn't recognize him coz he had been washing you know :)

anyways, maybe some day i have a chance to tell everything i have been doing. but, i went to see Loone linnus last week and i put up some photografs. i also was doing something else, but i can't tell you right now, coz it is a secret! for a giraffe, i like secrets a lot, like Angel says.

but i also ate some raspberries and some green grass on the way. very nice green grass there, although not as tasty as acacia leaves, i have to say. but you should check it out yourself.

here's me with a shadow. my grandpa used to say always: "if you want to see how long neck you have, you need to go and look at your shadow when the sun is really low". i don't know exactly what he meant, but i like shadows. i think i like shadows nearly as much as i like secrets - they both have two S-s, too.

today, when i was having my mid-afternoon nap No3, i realized, something was watching me. and then all of a sudden, i woke up - and there he was - full scale giraffe just in front of me:

and then i woke up really, and it was gone! too bad. these good visions really happen just before you wake up, i think. especially when you are only a toy giraffe. u know...

now, i'd better go eat something..
