Gli Osanna sono un gruppo rock progressivo italiano, formato a Napoli agli inizi degli anni settanta per iniziativa del gruppo Città Frontale e del fiatista Elio D'anna. Il gruppo è stato tra le prime band rock a proporre concerti dal vivo con trucco e costumi di scena. Le loro esibizioni erano sostenute anche da coreografie create attraverso la teatralità della tradizione mediterranea con richiami alla Commedia dell'arte.

Alla fine del 1970 i componenti della prima formazione del gruppo Città Frontale, giàVolti Di Pietra, Lino Vairetti (voce), Danilo Rustici (chitarra solista), Massimo Guarino(batteria) e Lello Brandi (basso) incontrano il talentuoso flautista e sassofonista Elio D'anna, proveniente dagli Showmen di James Senese. Il gruppo deve rimpiazzare Gianni Leone in procinto di entrare nel Balletto di Bronzo.

Il gruppo comincia subito un'intensa attività concertistica, esordendo nel 1971 al Festival Pop di Caracalla, e successivamente partecipando al Festival di Musica d'Avanguardia e di Nuove Tendenze di Viareggio dove impressionano critica e pubblico per l'impatto della loro dimensione live. Il gruppo, appoggiato dal manager Pino Tuccimei, firma un contratto con la casa discografica di stato ed esordisce con l'album L'uomo, che riscuote una buona accoglienza vincendo il "Premio della Critica Discografica Italiana". Il disco è un concept album molto ricercato anche sotto l'aspetto grafico, con una copertina apribile in tre parti a formare un poster a forma di punto esclamativo. I risvolti interni ospitano le note introduttive a cura di due celebri firme, quali Renzo Arbore e Fabrizio Zampa. L'album è valido sotto l'aspetto musicale con influenze del tipo dei Jethro Tull e dei Led Zeppelin, con i potenti fraseggi di Rustici e le chiose a metà strada tra il folk e il jazz di D'Anna, ma soffre di qualche calo di tensione nonostante la grintosa performance vocale di Vairetti. I testi sono interessanti nella loro essenzialità. Alcuni brani vengono inseriti nella colonna sonora del film Grazie signor P.

L'anno successivo l'incontro con la musica da film è più diretto. Il maestro Luis Enriquez Bacalov coinvolge il gruppo nell'esecuzione della colonna sonora composta per il film Milano calibro 9, un poliziottesco noir di cassetta. L'album si intitola Preludio Tema Variazioni Canzona, e si inquadra nel filone delle contaminazioni tra orchestra classica e musica rock, che era stato appena avviato dallo stesso Bacalov con il Concerto Grosso per i New Trolls. L'esperimento non bissa il successo dei New Trolls, anche se le variazioni composte dagli Osanna hanno qualche spunto interessante. Il 1972 resta soprattutto un anno di intensa attività concertistica, nella quale la band propone l'originale aspetto scenico, con le lunghe vesti colorate, i visi dipinti e le coreografie. Il gruppo suona alla Controcanzonissima organizzata da Ciao 2001 al Piper, al Festival Pop di Villa Pamphili, e al 2º Festival di Musica d'Avanguardia e di Nuove Tendenze al Foro Italico. Infine un tour italiano li vede protagonisti al fianco dei Genesis, gruppo internazionale con un live-act altrettanto teatrale.

L'intensa attività dal vivo prosegue anche nel 1973. In estate il gruppo organizza a Napoli il raduno chiamato Be-In a cui partecipa il meglio della scena progressive italiana. L'evento si rivela un successo musicale e di pubblico, ma anche un grosso crack economico per le finanze della band. In quell'anno viene dato alle stampe l'album Palepoli, che è ritenuto uno degli episodi più riusciti del progressive italiano. Il disco è un concept costituito da tre lunghe composizioni, che si sviluppano attorno al contrasto tra tradizione e modernità, tra la spinta ad innovare a cui si contrappone il recupero della tradizione popolare. La musica infatti è un impasto sonoro di registri musicali antichi e moderni, dall'improvvisazione free jazz, al recupero del folk partenopeo, passando per riff hard rock e partiture di derivazione blues. Palepoli, che vuol dire città antica, viene contrapposta idealmente alla Neapoli moderna, fredda e distaccata chiusa nel suo egoismo metropolitano. Al disco segue un tour teatrale omonimo scritto conTony Newiller, sulla storia della cultura popolare napoletana, messo in scena dal gruppo con la partecipazione di una compagnia di artisti, mimi e danzatori.

Nel 1974 esce il quarto album Landscape Of Life. Il gruppo è minato da dissidi interni, acuiti durante la lavorazione del disco. Il disco viene concluso in maniera travagliata con la partecipazione di Corrado Rustici, fratello di Danilo, ex Cervello. Il disco ha una pregevole copertina, opera grafica del batterista Guarino, ma il risultato musicale complessivo non è all'altezza dei precedenti. Dopo la sua pubblicazione il gruppo si scioglie per ricostituirsi nel 1977 senza Elio D'anna, sostituito dal tastierista Fabrizio D'Angelo, e con Enzo Petrone al basso. Con questa formazione gli Osanna realizzano Suddance che publicano nel 1978 per la CBS, disco che nonostante l'apprezzamento della critica non riscuote il successo sperato, per poi scogliersi definitivamente all'inizio dell'anno successivo.

Dopo un lungo oblio, una nuova edizione della band napoletana torna attiva nel 1999 dando vita al ritorno del Neapolis Rock Festival ed incidendo il disco Taka Boom nel 2000. L'album contiene vecchi successi riarrangiati con tecnologie digitali ed alcuni brani inediti.

Ad aprile 2008, con una formazione completamente rinnovata, gli Osanna entrano in studio per una nuova fatica discografica. Lino Vairetti, coadiuvato dal figlio Irvin Luca (voci e programmazione tastiere), Fabrizio Fedele (chitarre), Sasà Priore (piano e tastiere), Nello D'Anna (basso) e Gennaro Barba (percussioni) incidono il CD dal titoloProg Family a nome Osanna/Jackson. Il disco è uno spunto per reincidere i classici del repertorio ma con una nuova lettura in chiave, e soprattutto con un nugolo di prestigiosissimi ospiti tra cui, appunto, David Jackson, storico sax dei Van Der Graaf Generator (da qui il titolo del CD). Tra gli altri ospiti troviamo Gianni Leone (Balletto di Bronzo), TM Stevens (Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc.), David Cross (ex King Crimson), Solis String Quartet e altri nomi del panorama prog/rock internazionale a testimonianza dell'enorme stima che lo storico gruppo napoletano tuttora suscita nell'ambiente.

Osanna are an Italian psychedelic rock/progressive rock band.The group originated in the Vomero neighborhood of Naples with the union of Lino Vairetti (voice), Danilo Rustici (guitar), Massimo Guarino (drums), Lello Brandi (bass), from the first line-up of the band Città Frontale, and Elio D'Anna (flute and sax), former member of the Showmen. Osanna were among the first bands in the world to present themselves theatrically in their shows, featuring costumes and made-up faces.

After the debut album L'uomo, they released the soundtrack for the film Milano Calibro 9. In 1972 they toured in Italy alongside Genesis. Their following album Palepoli (1972) is regarded as one of the finest hours of the Italian progressive rock movement, characterized by a wild composition fantasy which mixes Neapolitan and Mediterranean sounds with modern progressive rock elements, such as the extensive use of electric guitar and mellotron.

In 1974, despite strife amongst band members, they released Landscape of life, which included participation from future rock and pop producer Corrado Rustici, brother of Danilo. The band disbanded but reformed in 1977 without D'Anna, who was replaced by keyboardist Fabrizio D'Angelo, while the bass role was taken up by Enzo Petrone. With this line-up they released Suddance in 1978, only to disband again in 1979.

The Osanna reformed in 1999, releasing the LP Taka boom the following year, including old successes and some new songs. Their next production was Prog Family, under the name of Osanna/Jackson, featuring notable figures of progressive rock history, such as Van der Graaf Generator's saxophonist David Jackson (as per name), King Crimson's David Cross, Balletto di Bronzo's Gianni Leone and others.

Biglietto Per L'Inferno - Live 1974

Biglietto per l'Inferno è un gruppo di rock progressivo italiano degli anni ‘70, originario della zona di Lecco.

Il gruppo, formatosi a Lecco nel 1972, incise il suo album d'esordio omonimo nel 1974. L'album è classificabile come rock progressivo sinfonico-romantico (sullo stile di Genesis, King Crimson e Emerson, Lake & Palmer) con toni oscuri e venature hard rock. I testi possono spesso essere interpretati come provocatori nei confronti della moralità religiosa, come nel caso di Ansia o Confessione. Gli arrangiamenti sono dominati dalle doppie tastiere di Giuseppe Banfi e Giuseppe Cossa, e dal flauto diClaudio Canali (che era anche il cantante del gruppo). Pur avendo ottenuto grande apprezzamento della critica, Biglietto per l'Inferno non fu un successo dal punto di vista commerciale.

Nel 1975 il gruppo iniziò a lavorare al secondo album, con la produzione di Eugenio Finardi. Venne pubblicato un singolo, ma il successivo fallimento della casa discografica del gruppo, la Trident, impedì la pubblicazione dell'album; il gruppo si sciolse poco dopo. Il tastierista Banfi intraprese una carriera solista di discreto successo. Il batterista Gnecchi collaborò a diversi progetti musicali, incluso l'album solista di Franco Mussida (PFM) Racconti della Tenda Rossa. Curiosamente, il cantante Canali (i cui testi erano spesso polemici nei confronti del clero, al punto di guadagnargli il nomignolo di "voce del Diavolo") prese i voti come frate eremita il 15 settembre 1994, scelta di vita che porta avanti tutt'ora. Fausto Branchini è rientrato sulla scena nel 1989 in veste di cantautore incidendo diversi dischi fra i quali c'è da segnalare "Il nevare" live.Ha collaborato anche,come paroliere, con Umberto Balsamo.Ha inoltre pubblicato, diventando così scrittore dal 1998, un romanzo da collocare fra filosofia e mistero oltre a diverse opere di narrativa e saggistica.

L'album "mancato" nel 1975 fu recuperato nel 1992 dalla Mellow Records, un'etichetta specializzata nel revival del genere progressive, e pubblicato su CD. Nel 2004 è stato pubblicato da BTF un cofanetto che comprende i primi due album e un CD live extra. Il live è stato anche ripubblicato da solo nel 2005, sempre da BTF, con il titolo Live 1974.

Nel 2007 tre componenti del gruppo originario Pilly, Mauro Gnecchi e Baffo con la benedizione di Fra Claudio (Canali) danno vita ad una nuova fase del biglietto con il nuovo nome "Biglietto per l'Inferno.Folk", che sfocia nella pubblicazione di un nuovo CD. Il nuovo progetto presenta una rilettura del repertorio storico del Biglietto in chiave folk, utilizzando strumenti della tradizione accanto alle sonorità rock. Fausto Branchini decide di non partecipare al progetto per continuare il suo percorso di solista, che sfocia nella rappresentazione teatrale dell'opera Prog"La botola del silenzio" fra musica e mistero e per la realizzazione fonda il gruppo Fausto Branchini-Biglietto per l'inferno sempre dedicandosi all'attività di scrittore. Anche Marco Mainetti non ha condiviso il progetto e come lo stesso Branchini è stato ufficialmente ringraziato nell'allegato cartaceo del CD per non aver risparmiato critiche e consigli comunque sempre puntuali e ben accetti dai componenti del "Biglietto per l'Inferno.Folk". Baffo Banfi decide di non partecipare alle esibizioni live mantenendo il ruolo di Produttore e Segretario del Biglietto per l'Inferno.Folk. Ai musicisti originari si affianca un gruppo di ottimi musicisti da tempo attivi nel tessuto geografico del Biglietto che portano in dote un interessante bagaglio di esperienze al progetto: Enrico Fagnoni ai bassi, Renata Tomasella e Ranieri Fumagalliai fiati e Mariolina Sala che interpreta al femminile il ruolo di Claudio Canali. Lo stesso Canali, con lo pseudonimo di Frate Isaia, compare sia come voce recitante sia come flautista, anche nel CD Tra l'assurdo e la ragione il cui titolo è il nome di un brano inedito.

Biglietto per l'Inferno (literally ticket to hell) is an italian progressive rock band whose album Biglietto per l'Inferno, in spite of the limited success it scored in the 1970s, is today considered a cornerstone of the genre.

Biglietto per l'Inferno's members were from Lecco, Lombardy, coming from the bandsMako Sharks and Gee. The year 1972 marked the band's first concerts. In 1974 the band released their eponymous LP, a mixture of hard rock and progressive sounds. The most prominent instruments in the record were Marco Mainetti's guitar and Giuseppe Cossa's keyboards. Claudio Canali,the lead singer, also played flute. The lyrics Canali wrote for the song "Confessione" were about a murder: despite the band's name, meaning "Ticket to Hell", the lyrics have no references to hell or demonic themes - (except the quote "What do you say, brother - you have murdered? (...) I cannot save you from the eternal fire, you only have a ticket to hell"). The other songs feature lyrics dealing with social and psychological themes.

The second album Il Tempo Della Semina ("The Seed-time") was recorded in 1974-1975 (production by Eugenio Finardi), but was not issued until 1992. Biglietto per l'Inferno split up in 1975. Some of its members continued their careers in the music industry: Giuseppe Banfi recorded four electronic music albums in 1977-1988 under the name Baffo Banfi, while Fausto Branchini issued several pop music singles. Mauro Gnecchi joined a jazz band and worked for Racconti della Tenda Rossa by Franco Mussida. Mainetti earned a Ph.D. in physics and Canali retired to live as a monk in a monastery located in the mountains near Lucca, Tuscany.

A 30th anniversary box set was released in 2004 containing remastered versions of both official albums, a third CD with a live recording from 1974 in Lugano, and a DVD including various material.

In 2007 Pilly, Mauro Gnecchi e Baffo with Fra Claudio (Canali) blessing, restart the band. The new project is characterized by a folk music texture and by the ".folk" suffix that has been added to the end of the bands name. As although a folk element could be heard in the earlier incarnation the new Biglietto is a much expanded band with a more diverse range of acoustic instruments being used than before. As well as the obligatory flute which was always a key element of the bands sound we also have Accordion, Bagpipes, Ocarina, Mandolin, Violin, acoustic guitar, stand up bass, fife and recorder. The most noticeable difference to fans of the band will undoubtedly be Canali's replacement, female vocalist Mariolina Sala. The rest of the new members all fill their rolls with admirable aplomb with guitarist Franco Giaffreda playing with a more modern metal style, the jazzist Enrico Fagnoni at bass and double bass and three pure folk musicians: Carlo Redi, Raineri Fumagalli and Renata Tommasella The band published in 2010 a new album Tra l'assurdo e la ragione and starts a live tour.

A seguito di molti tour di successo in tutta Europa con la sua orchestra, ed una notevole serie di pubblicazioni su etichetta Fonit Cetra - ai tempi la più grande casa discografica italiana - Armando Sciascia negli anni '60 fondò la Vedette Records, una società discografica indipendente con sede a Milano il cui repertorio spaziava tra musica classica, pop, jazz ed etnica, e si divideva tra varie etichette (Ars Nova, Vedette, Replica, Albatros, Zodiaco) distribuite in tutto il mondo. Ciascuna di esse rifletteva l'abilità di Sciascia non solo come musicista, produttore ed uomo d'affari, ma anche il suo fiuto per nuovi talenti musicali: si trattava spesso di giovani artisti, precursori del pop italiano di maggior successo dell'epoca e dei successivi anni. Non meno interessanti erano le sue personali attività musicali. Figlio di musicisti italiani, cominciò a studiare musica classica a soli cinque anni, e si diplomò presso il conservatorio Gioacchino Rossini di Pesaro, specializzandosi in violino, composizione e direzione d'orchestra. Oltre alle sue impressionanti performance concertistiche come violinista, alle sue composizioni per film e teatro ed al suo lavoro di direttore dell'orchestra della RAI, aveva l'innata capacità di muoversi attraverso vari generi musicali: questo fu il principale motivo del suo successo, così come la sua attività di talent scout, alla ricerca di nuove generazioni di musicisti che avrebbero dovuto risvegliare il panorama rock degli anni '60 e '70. Infatti, la Vedette Records fu l'etichetta di Equipe 84, Pooh, Inti-Illimani, Gian Pierretti, Roby Crispiano, Lelio Luttazzi e, più tardi, Giorgio Gaber. Fu inoltre distributore italiano per la statunitense Elektra, label di Jim Morrison e dei suoi The Doors. Gli studi di registrazione della Vedette furono fucina di sperimentazioni in campo elettronico, nonché luogo frequentato da alcuni dei migliori jazzisti e musicisti italiani, che vi si incontravano per improvvisare insieme o registrare dei live album; ricordiamo tra questi Valdambrini, Valente, G. Basso, Farina, De Piscopo, Pezzotta, Schiano ed altri. Fu da una di queste spontanee conversazioni musicali che nacquero i Blue Phantom, autori del primo disco di successo nel cosiddetto ambito dell'"heavy rock psichedelico" in Italia. Autore di canzoni ed arrangiamenti fu lo stesso Sciascia. Oggi è del tutto comune avere suoni distorti in un disco, ma non lo era affatto negli anni 60, quando il Moog rappresentava ancora uno strano esperimento ed il digitale era ancora lontano anni luce dalla diffusione odierna. il sound dei Blue Phantom non fu solo rivoluzionario, ma per certi versi sacrilego! I titoli di questo album, in ogni caso, mostrano come la band era conscia di quanto stesse facendo, ed avesse capito che là fuori in molti capivano ed apprezzavano ciò che ascoltavano.

Following many successful tours of Europe with his orchestra and an impressive series of recordings with Fonit Cetra, then Italy's preeminent record company, in the 60s Armando Sciascia formed Vedette Records, his own independent record group based in Milan, wich grew into an important classical, pop, jazz and ethnic repertory on various labels (Ars Nova, Vedette, Replica, Albatros, Zodiaco) which were soon distributed world-wide. Each of these labels reflected Sciascia's distinguished work, not only as a performer, producer and entrepreneur, but also of his musical instinct for quality talent - often young artists who were precursors of the most successful Italian pop music of that era and beyond.

Not less interesting than this all-star production were Sciascia's own musical activities. Born in Italy of musicians, he began his strictly classical music studies at age five and graduated from the Gioacchino Rossini Conservatory of Pesaro where he majored in violin, composition and conducting. Yet despite his prodigious concert performances as violinist, his compositions for films and the theatre, as well as conductor - including a stint with the Rai (TV) Orchestra - he also had the extraordinary ability to move through various musical idioms and had as much success as a cross-over musician as he did as purist and as talent scout for a new generation of musicians who were to raise the curtain on the "rocking" 60s and 70s.

In fact, Vedette Records became the first home for, among others, the Equipe 84, the Pooh, Inti-Illimani, Gian Pieretti, Roby Crispiano, Lelio Luttazzi, and later included Giorgio Gaber and the Italian distributor for the entire Elektra USA label, including Jim Morrison and The Doors.

Vedette's recording studios also served as experimental music labs not only for electronic music, but where some of Italy's finest jazz and studio musicians often gathered for jam sessions or live recordings, with such names as Valdambrini, Valente, G. Basso, Farina, De Piscopo, Pezzotta, Schiano etc. In fact, it was from one of these spontaneous musical conversations that Blue Phantom emerged as one of the first successful so-called "psychedelic heavy rock" recordings in Italy with both songs and arrangements by Sciascia.

What with today's plethora of electronic gadgets, distortion of sound is by now common practice, but in the 60s, especially when one considers that Moog was still an experiment, and digital still a long way off, Blue Phantom's sound was not only revolutionary, it was almost a blaspemy! The titles of this collection, however, clearly indicate the group knew what they were saying, and correctly guessed there were lots of fans out there who understood and loved what they heard!

PSIGLO é stato un gruppo di rock progressivo uruguayano. A dispetto del fatto che abbia avuto una breve esistenza, è considerato uno dei gruppi più importanti della storia del rock sudamericano, e rientra nei 20 gruppi più importanti della storia del hard rock progressivo, insieme a Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple e King Crimson tra gli altri.
Quattro amici, César Rechac al basso, Luis Cesio alla chitarra, Jorge García Banegas alle tastiere, Gonzalo Farrugia alla batteria in sostituzione di Carmelo Albano, e Ruben Melogno, il promettente cantante de Ovni 87, saranno coloro che formeranno PSIGLO in un bar del quartiere La Figurita.
Nel luglio 1972 esce il loro primo singolo, registrato per la Sondor in un formato poco commerciale, Gente sin camino supera i sei minuti di durata in un epoca in cui la lunghezza massima per un brano che doveva essere passato in radio era tre minuti. Tuttavia En un lugar un niño viene diffuso ovunque.
Tappezzano la calle 18 de julio con cartelli che dicono "Coloro che non han comprato il primo album degli PSIGLO sono buoni per lo psichiatra" e le vendite sono eccellenti. Il 13 agosto 1972 realizzano un concerto al Teatro Solís. Il commento di Melogno:

“Al primo concerto al Solís stavo malissimo. Uscii ad attaccare manifesti e presi l'influenza. Non si fraintenda il mio senso di solidarietà uruguaiano, ma se tu sei il cantante di un gruppo che darà un concerto al Solís non puoi uscire un paio di giorni prima, in pieno inverno, di notte, ad appendere manifesti per la 18 de julio.”

Nel dicembre dello stesso anno viene pubblicato il secondo singolo, che supera le vendite del precedente ed arriva a diventare disco d' oro.

Il 10 gennaio del 1973 si organizza un importante ballo nel club Atenas nel locale della U.J.C. e verso la fine Gonzalo Farrugia alza un quadro con la foto di Lenin e l' entusiasmo dei giovani esplode. Il 24 febbraio sono invitati a partecipare al Festival de la Solidaridad Chile-Vietnam nel Estadio Centenario, assieme a Alfredo Zitarrosa, Víctor Heredia, Vera Sienra, Sindykato, Quilapayún, Dean Reed e Camerata.
Partecipano inoltre come ospiti alle sessioni di registrazione di altri artisti come Jesús Figueroa (ex cantante degli Opus Alfa), e al secondo LP di León Gieco.
La organizzazione del "Seminario de Música Latinoamericana" acconsente ad invitarli alla manifestazione che si è svolta ai piedi del Cerro dl Toro di Piriápolis nel dicembre '72.
La copertina di questo LP, con l' emblematico cervello, fu creata dal pittore, scenografo per Canal 5 e cantante della band, Ruben Melogno .
Tra gennaio e marzo del 1973 completano la registrazione del primo LP, Intitolato "Ideación". Lo stesso fu lanciato nel luglio di quell' anno e contò della partecipazione del quartetto di archi del S.O.D.R.E. nella canzone Catalina e di Nelson Pito Varela (sax) eEduardo Giovonazzo (tromba) in es inútil. Il fotografo Jorge Gómez fu incaricato di disegnare la copertina, però quando il lavoro era pressoché finito, improvvisamente si decise di sostituirlo con il cervello disegnato da Ruben Melogno, che alla fine diventò il logo del gruppo.
Il 12 agosto 1973 si realizza il secondo concerto, nello stesso luogo ed esattamente un anno dopo il primo. Lì venne loro consegnato il Disco d'Oro. Questo spettacolo viene trasmesso il sabato 18 su Canal 12. Si chiamò "Telesuceso del Psiglo".
Nonostante tutto, nel 1973 allestiscono una sala prove in una casa in affitto, doveGonzalo Farrugia dà lezioni di batteria, e suonano dappertutto (7 o 8 performances per fine settimana).

Psiglo II

Il loro secondo LP, conosciuto popolarmente come Psiglo II, fu registrato nel luglio 1974, però fu censurato dalla dittatura militare, e fu pubblicato nel 1981 senza la canzone "Héroe de papel".

Riunioni

Nel 1993, in un evento che riunì 6000 persone alla stazione centrale dei treni AFE a Montevidéo tornano in scena per la gioia delle generazioni che avevano alimentato il mito della band, ricevendo l' approvazione di un pubblico di ogni età.
Nel 1999 tornano a riunirsi per un tributo a Ruben Castillo alla "Factoria".

Cuatro amigos, César Rechac en bajo, Luis Cesio en guitarra, Jorge García Banegasen teclados, Gonzalo Farrugia en batería en sustitución de Carmelo Albano y Ruben Melogno, el prometedor cantante de Ovni 87, serían los que labrarían PSIGLO en una servilletita de un bar del barrio La Figurita.
En julio de 1972 lanzan su primer single, grabado en Sondor y con un formato poco comercial, Gente sin camino supera los seis minutos de duración en una época que la duración máxima para un tema que la radio difundiera era tres minutos. Sin embargoEn un lugar un niño logra la difusión masiva.
Ellos tapizan la calle 18 de julio con carteles que dicen "Los que aún no han comprado el Primer simple de PSIGLO están para el Psiquiatra" y las ventas son excelentes. El 13 de
agosto de 1972 realizan un concierto en el Teatro Solís. Sobre esto comenta Melogno:

“En el primer concierto en el Solís yo estaba como el culo. Salí a pegar afiches con los plomos y me agarré flor de gripe. Ese sentido uruguayo de solidaridad mal entendida, si tu eres el cantante de un grupo que dará un concierto en el Solís no puedes salir un par de días antes, en pleno invierno, de noche, a pegar carteles por 18 de julio.”

En diciembre del mismo año se edita el segundo single, este supera las ventas del anterior y llega a ser disco de oro.

El 10 de enero de 1973 se organiza un importante baile en el club Atenas en el local de la U.J.C. y al finalizar Gonzalo Farrugia levanta un cuadro con una foto de Lenin, con lo que el entusiasmo de los jóvenes se exacerba. El 24 de febrero son invitados a participar en el Festival de la Solidaridad Chile-Vietnam en el Estadio Centenario, junto con Alfredo Zitarrosa, Víctor Heredia, Vera Sienra, Sindykato, Quilapayún, Dean Reed yCamerata.
También participar como invitados en las sesiones de grabación de otros artistas como Jesús Figueroa (ex cantante de Opus Alfa), y en el segundo disco larga duración de León Gieco.
La organización del "Seminario de Música Latinoamericana" les da su reconocimiento al invitarlos al evento que se realizó en la falda del Cerro del Toro de Piriápolis en diciembre de 1972
La tapa de este LP, con el emblemático cerebro fue creada por el artista plástico, escenógrafo de Canal 5 y cantante de la banda, Ruben Melogno.
Entre enero y marzo de 1973 completan la grabación del primer larga duración, titulado "Ideación". El mismo fue lanzado en julio de ese año y contó con el acompañamiento del cuarteto de cuerdas del S.O.D.R.E. en el tema Catalina y de Nelson Pito Varela(saxo) y Eduardo Giovonazzo (trompeta) en es inútil. El fotógrafo Jorge Gómez fue el encargado del diseño de la tapa, pero cuando el trabajo estuvo terminado, de forma imprevista se sustituyó por el cerebro que Ruben Melogno había dibujado y que finalmente se convirtió en logo del grupo.

Psiglo II

Reuniones

En 1993 en un evento que congregó a 6000 personas en la Estación Central de Trenes de AFE en Montevideo demostraron su convocatoria y la aceptación de un público multigeneracional, vuelven a escena para alegría de generaciones que se habían alimentado del mito de la banda.

Hailing from Uruguay, PSIGLO were formed in 1968 by Luis Cesio, Jorge García Banegas, César Rechac, Julio Dallier and Carmelo Albano. Jorge proposed the name "PSIGLO" by joining the word "siglo"(century) with the first letter of psychedelic, because he said they were hanging around in the psychedelic era.
With an above average production level, their albums were indisputably strong, supported by the Vincent Crane/Jon Lord style of Hammond organ and the decisiveDeep Purple guitar style. In 1973, with Ruben Melogno on the vocal duties, Gonzalo Farrugia on the drums, Luis Cesio on the guitar, César Rechac on the bass and Jorge García on the keyboards, PSIGLO managed to release their debut, "Ideación", and achieve the first 'gold' status ever in Uruguay rock history. Then they started enjoying a sort of "stardom", though it wouldn't last long, since the lyrics started to have more of a political slant against the state of affairs in Uruguay - which delayed the release of their second and last album, "Psiglo II", issued in 1981.
"Psiglo II" showed a more mature band, showing their most progressive efforts, with switch line-up changes as César Rechac moving to guitars and Gustavo Mamut Muñozreplacing Cesar on bass. "Psiglo II", however, was not as successful as "Ideación" had been. Moreover, the musicians had already chosen to leave the country following the military coup of June 1973. Gonzalo Farrugia would later join Argentine Prog bandCrucis, Jorge García Banegas would join Asfalto from Spain, and Hermes Calabriawould join Baron Rojo, also from Spain.
PSIGLO are one of the most important bands in the history of south american rock, and an interesting example of early heavy prog.

Ursa Major è stata una hard rock band statunitense che ha prodotto un album da collezione e può essere conosciuta sia per i suoi componenti che per la sua musica. L' unico album del gruppo, Ursa Major, uscì nel 1972. Due singoli vennero pubblicati dalla produzione: Liberty and Justice e Let The Music Play, entrambi nel 1972.

Wagner, who was joined on guitar by his old Reed pal Steve Hunter, worked with Cooper through most of the rest of the '70s, collaborating on hits like You and Me and How You Gonna See Me Now as well as other popular album tracks. He also used his experience in the studio to work with Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad on some of his solo ventures.
In the late '80s, Wagner teamed with Bob Ezrin, who produced many of Alice Cooper's most successful records, overseeing the debut album of the much-touted New York City band, The Throbs. The project, The Language of Thieves and Vagabonds, issued by Geffen Records, got some good reviews but the band was unable to deliver the same power in their live performances and soon broke up.
While Wagner may be a good example of the talented sideman who helps other performers build their careers, he was also a strong leader, as his work with Ursa Major demonstrates.

In Svezia nei primi anni 70 bands e artisti nascevano come funghi dopo la pioggia in agosto ed ogni cantina o garage aveva la sua versione di Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin o Rolling Stones. Nel sobborgo di Stoccolma, Bromma, i compagni di classe Björn Aggemyr (chitarra) e Björn "Nysse" (chitarra) Nyström cominciarono a strimpellare i loro strumenti quando erano appena dodicenni. Il tastierista Christer Sjöborg si unì e Kurt Persson suonò la batteria con loro per un breve periodo. Fu presto sostituito da Peter Sandberg e decisero di chiamarsi Goda Vänner & Musik (Buoni Amici & Musica). I chitarristi Jan e Nysse suonavano chitarre Gibson o fatte da loro, Björn aveva un basso Rickenbacker, e Peter suonava un drum kit Rogers completo. Il tastierista Christer aveva una dozzina di tastiere, tra cui uno dei primi Mini Moogs svedesi e un Hammond A-100 con 2 speaker Leslie da 150 watt! Il suo materiale da solo avrebbe riempito per metà il pullman dei Råg I Ryggen, senza contare il problema di averlo sempre stipato nella cantina del padre di Nysse mentre provavano.

E' il figlio del famoso cantante Östen Warnerbring che ha rappresentato la Svezia all'Eurovision Song Contest negli anni 60, tuttavia i loro stili vocali non sono né simili né comparabili. Jonas fu avvicinato da Nysse e Björn quella sera e fu presto convinto a lasciare i Nederlaget in favore dei Råg I Ryggen. Con il nuovo vocalist, la band si poteva concentrare maggiormente sul proprio materiale e riprese a suonare nella piccola cantina, a dispetto del fatto che i Råg I Ryggen adesso erano in 6 e più orientati verso sonorità progressive, pur non tradendo le loro radici che affondavano nell' hard rock. I genitori di Nysse non si lamentarono mai della musica pesante che veniva da sotto, nemmeno quando una finestra si ruppe a causa del volume esagerato.

Una sera quell'autunno Peter era uscito a bere con alcuni amici, e mentre aspettava il treno per tornare a casa fece amicizia con Kjell Gradin, un anziano gentleman che guarda caso gestiva un'etichetta discografica! Nel loro stato di alterazione alcolica si accordarono subito per un test recording e solo poche settimane più tardi la band aveva ordinato tutto il suo equipaggiamento in un piccolo studio di Sundbyberg. Råg I Ryggen avevano suonato Spångaforsens Brus ed una canzone ormai sconosciuta, ma né Kjell Gradin né il suo piccolo studio erano preparati per l'assalto musicale e questa registrazione fu rovinata dal suono pesantemente distorto. L'etichetta Rondo aveva precedentemente registrato solo Göingeflickorna ed altre band vocali molto soft, ma questo non scoraggiò Kjel che fece un altro tentativo di registrare i suoi nuovi apprendisti appena scoperti. Prenotò l' EMI-studio di Skärmarbrink - che era uno dei più moderni studios a 16 canali della Svezia a quei tempi - per due giorni interi per registrare un album con la band. Le date erano il 22 ed il 23 di febbraio e presto si presentò un altro problema. I testi di alcune canzoni erano di solito improvvisati sul palco, ma la band pensò che non avrebbe funzionato in studio. Il testo per Naked Man fu scritto il giorno prima della registrazione e il tocco finale per Queen Of Darkness fu dato nelle ore precedenti l'arrivo allo studio alle 09.00 AM. L'album fu registrato in 16 ore. Tutti gli strumenti, tranne il sintetizzatore, furono registrati live il primo giorno, mentre tutte le parti vocali e il mixaggio furono fatti il secondo giorno. Fu scoperto qualche piccolo errore, ma non c'era tempo per il redub, e tuttavia ascoltando l' album oggi queste piccole cose danno autenticità al groove ed alla musica.

L'album eponimo uscì nell'aprile 1975 e qualcuna delle canzoni in lingua svedese fu trasmessa in radio. Rondo sembrava credere nella musica dei Råg I Ryggen così distribuì tra le 8000 e le 10000 copie dell'album e prenotò la partecipazione al Gröna Lund per il 3 luglio. L'album fu distribuito da EMI in Svezia ma non all'estero. Nel periodo in cui l'album fu preparato la band aveva almeno 2 esibizioni dal vivo alla settimana e provava 2 o 3 volte alla settimana mentre ognuno lavorava anche a tempo pieno (quattro di loro lavoravano in negozi di musica!). I fan dei Råg I Ryggen a Stoccolma crescevano sempre più e a volte loro regalavano dischi alle persone del pubblico che avevano il coraggio di salire sul palco e cantare con loro e questo accadeva abbastanza frequentemente. La band aveva il proprio tecnico del suono ed un amico che si occupava delle luci allo stesso modo di un rigido codice morale: non era permesso l'uso di alcol prima e durante l'esibizione, anche se il pubblico ne faceva uso per essere "carico". Le esibizioni di solito consistevano di 2 sessioni di 45 minuti, e di solito loro erano l'unica band della serata, anche se una volta ebbero un concerto assieme alla blues rock band Nature.

Quando arrivò il giorno del concerto al Gröna Lund, l' arrangiatore disse che sarebbe stato loro permesso di suonare per mezz'ora al massimo, e dovettero pianificare una lista di canzoni adatta. In Sweden in the early 70s bands and artists sprang up like mushrooms after an August rain and every other cellar and garage had its own version of Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin or Rolling Stones. In the Stockholm suburb Bromma classmates Björn Aggemyr (bass) and Björn "Nysse" (guitar) Nyström began banging away on their instruments when they were just twelve years old. Keyboard player Christer Sjöborg soon joined in and Kurt Persson played drums with them for a short while. He was soon replaced by Peter Sandberg and the band named themselves Goda Vänner & Musik (Good Friends & Music). These four kids rehearsed in a 3,5 X 3,5 metres small room in Nysse's father cellar, and mostly played songs by british hard rock bands like Deep Purle and Uriah Heep. Björn and Nysse managed to persuade their teacher at school (Riksbyskolan in Bromma) to allow them to show their talents in front of the other pupils. The proposal was accepted, but they had to bring their own musical equipment, a problem which was solved by bringing in Björn's older brother Jan Aggemyr into the band. Jan had a driver's license and a car, an electric guitar and the knowledge to use it, thus fitting the bill perfectly. Shortly before this début performance the boys found a package of old bread in the rehearsal room. The brand was Wasa Bröd and his tag line "ger råg I ryggen" (gives strength and courage) immediately caught the band's attention, and the name Råg I Ryggen was born.

At this time, in 1974, the boys in the band were between fifteen and twenty years old, but the band had assembled musical equipment and gear like a rich and famous groups like Yes or King Crimson. Guitarists Jan and Nysse playing Gibson guitars or homemade ones, Björn had a Rickenbacker bass and Peter thundered away on a full-fledged Rogers drum kit. Keyboard player Christer had six pairs of keys, including one of Sweden's first Mini Moogs and a Hammond A-100 with two 150 watt Leslie speakers! His gear alone would fill half of Råg I Ryggen tourbus, not to mention the trouble of having it all stashed in Nysse's parent's cellar while rehearsing.

In 1974 the band would perform regularly at youth centres around Stockholm and its suburbs, and they also entered a talent hunt at Jarlateatern. Nysse was the vocalist around this time but about half of the band's repertoire was instrumental. Nederlaget was another band that performed that same evening and that band's vocalist Jonas Warnerbring caught the attention of Råg I Ryggen. He is the son of famous Swedish singer/performer Östen Warnerbring, who had represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in the sixties, although their vocal styles are neither comparable nor alike. Jonas was approached by Nysse and Björn that evening and was soon persuaded to quit Nederlaget in favour of Råg I Ryggen.

With a new vocalist on board, the band concentrated more on their own material and kept rehearsing in the small cellar room despite the fact that Råg I Ryggen now consisted of six members and more progressive sound developed, although the band still had his roots in hard rock. Nysse's parent's never complained about the heavy music almost coming from below, not even when a window broke due to the high volume produced in the enclosed quarter.

An evening that autumn Peter had been out drinking with some friends, and while he waited for the train ride home he befriended Kjell Gradin, an elderly gentleman who appened to run a record label! In their drunken state they immediately agreed on a test recording, and only a few weeks later the band had lined up all their equipment in a small studio in Sundbyberg. Råg I Ryggen performed Spångaforsens Brus and a now unknown song, but since neither Kjell Gradin nor his small studio was prepared for the musical assault and this recording was ruined by a heavily distorted sound. The Rondo label had previously only recorded the likes of Göingeflickorna and other very soft vocal acts, but this didn't deter Kjel from making another attempt at recording his newly discovered apprentices. He booked the EMI-studio in Skärmarbrink - which was one of the most modern 16-channel studios in Sweden at the time - for two full days to record a full-lenght album with the band. The dates were the 22nd and 23rd of February, and suddenly a new problem came up. The lyrics for some of the songs where usually improvised on stage, but the band figured that it would not work out in the studio. The lyrics for Naked Man were written the day before the recording and the final touch on Queen Of Darkness were made in the early hours before Råg I Ryggen arrived at the studio at 09.00 AM. The album was recorded in 16 hours. All instruments, except for the synthesizer, were recorded live the first day, while all vocals and mixing was made the second day. Some small errors were soon discovered, but there was no time for overdubs, but while listening to the album today these small things only add authenticity to the groove and general feel of the music.

The eponymous album was released in April 1975 and some of the Swedish-language songs were aired by the Swedish radio. Rondo seemed to believe in Råg I Ryggen's music and issued between eight and ten thousand copies of the album, as well as booking a gig at the big scene at Gröna Lund on the 3rd of July. The album was distributed by EMI throughout Sweden, but not abroad.

At the time the album was released the band performed live at least two times a week, rehearsed two or three times while everyone held full-time jobs (four of them actually worked in music stores!). Råg I Ryggen's following in Stockholm grew bigger and sometimes they woul give records to people in the audience i they dared to ascend the stage amd sing with the band, and this would occur quite frequently. The band had their own sound technician and a friend doing the lightning, as well as a strict moral codex: no alcohol was allowed before or during a gig, although the audiences used to be loaded. The gigs would usually consist of two 45-minute sets, and usually they would be the only band of the evening, although they once performed alongside the blues-rock act Nature.

When the day of the Gröna Lund gig came, the arranger told the band that they would be allowed to perform for half an hour at the most, and had to plan the track list accordingly. The volume was set by the band themselves and the performance was to be the second loudest ever measured at Gröna Lund (only Wishbone Ash had been louder). All went very well with a great connection between band and audience, but with only the final chorus of Sanningsserum left to play someone cut the power! This had previously happened to Jimi Hendrix some seven years earlier and that event is now part of Gröna Lund folklore, but this left both Råg I Ryggen and the visitors flabbergasted. The electricians at Gröna Lund initially claimed that a fuse has gone, but later admitted that they had actually cut the power to prevent Råg I Ryggen from playing as much as one second more than agreed.

The band also played outside Stockholm, in places like Norrtälje, Orsa and Gävle. The distance was never too great though and the band always returned home to Nysse's parents after every gig, where sandwiches or a late dinner awaited them.

The contract between Råg I Ryggen and Rondo stated that more songs should be recorded, but being week-end rock stars and full-time employees at once - combined with growing musical differences- finally took its toll on the band. In early 1976 vocalist Jonas Warnerbring and drummer Peter Sandberg left the band and they were replaced by Bo Lantz and Jonas Edgren respectively. This brought fresh influences and a new musical direction. The songs became more complex and the witty lyrics were brushed aside for more serious topics. Sadly this did not work out too well and the band made only a few live performances before breaking up about half a year later.

None of the material written by the band's last line-up was ever recorded in a studio, and only a live performance with mediocre sound quality exists. This is sad, since the original vinyl version of Råg I Ryggen's only album currently swaps hands for about $ 100-150, and the album is generally considered a classic among connoisseurs of swedish progressive and hard rock.

Original bass player Gary Justin did not participate, and the majority of the album's bass guitar lines were performed by Tony Franklin, with guitarist Anthony Guido and bass player Sam Powell being credited as guest musicians.Though the album's music was originally written for an aborted 1976 release, the lyrics were changed to present a Christian viewpoint not found on Sir Lord Baltimore's 1970s recordings. I Sir Lord Baltimore sono una band di "pionieri" dell' heavy metal, fondata nel 1968 a Brooklin, New York, dal cantante/batterista John Garner, il chitarrista Louis Dambra ed il bassista Gary Justin. Sono conosciuti soprattutto per il fatto che una recensione del 1971 del loro primo lavoro, Kingdom Come, conteneva il primo uso documentato del termine "heavy metal" per descrivere un genere musicale. Il batterista della band, inoltre, era anche il cantante principale e questa è tradizionalmente una rarità nei generi rock ed heavy metal. Released on Mercury Records in 1970, Kingdom Come featured very fast-paced rock 'n' roll with high levels of distortion in the guitar and, in some cases, the bass, and extensive use of the multi-tracking to further enhance the guitar sound. Though this style of rock 'n' roll would become popular in later years, it was considerably different from the majority of that era's contemporary rock music.

On February 19-20, 1971, Sir Lord Baltimore played consecutive nights at New York's Fillmore East as the opening act on a bill that included The J. Geils Band and Black Sabbath, as part of the latter's Paranoid tour. (Sir Lord Baltimore played additional dates on this tour, as well.) A photo of the band used in the Fillmore East's programs was later used as the cover of their 2006 reunion album, Sir Lord Baltimore III Raw. In May 1971, Mike Saunders (of later Angry Samoans fame) wrote a favorable review of Kingdom Come for Creem magazine. Of historical note was Saunders' assertion that "...Sir Lord Baltimore seems to have down pat most all the best heavy metal tricks in the book." To date, this appears to have been the first printed use of the term "heavy metal" to reference a musical genre.

Issued the same year, and again on Mercury, Sir Lord Baltimore marked a change in direction, with Kingdom Come's frenetic pace giving way to slower-tempoed songs more reminiscent of music produced by the band's hard rock peers. Sir Lord Baltimore expanded to a four-piece for this album, with Louis Dambra's brother, Joey Dambra, joining as a second guitarist. Sir Lord Baltimore contains the supposed live recording, "Where Are We Going" which was actually recorded at Mercury Studios. The audience was dubbed in since the producer thought it was a good idea to include a "live" track.

Their career started to fade after Sir Lord Baltimore's release, and Mercury dropped them shortly thereafter. The band publicly blamed drugs on its initial downfall, with low record sales and non-payment of royalties also being cited. However, the band did start work in the mid-1970s for an unreleased third album originally scheduled for 1976, and music written for that project was eventually used on Sir Lord Baltimore III Raw. In 1994, Kingdom Come and Sir Lord Baltimore were reissued on a single compact disc, Kingdom Come/Sir Lord Baltimore, from PolyGram, However, the track listing on the combined CD differs from the original recordings. Some 30 years after the band's break-up, Garner and Dambra reunited to record and self-distribute a new Sir Lord Baltimore album, Sir Lord Baltimore III Raw, on JG Records in July 2006.
