Rapper|Poet|Writer|Teacher Pinqy Ring is a Puerto Rican Chicago native and has paved the way for the music scene. At the age of 15, she began to rap during her Sophomore year at Lane Tech High School. She is actively  involved in community work and teaching. Her hard work and dedication is her drive. Throughout the years, she has ventured out in her music and vowed that she would always be original in her music, no matter the circumstances. She released her EP in 2013 entitled “Herstory”.

She also undertook a topic dealing with sexual abuse with her song titled “Little Hearts”. She faced some challenges to write the song, as it brought her back to moments in her past that were unfortunate. She worked with an organization (Life-Span) that is committed to the remission of domestic and sexual assault. Her song “Little Hearts” convey a strong message to the listeners and raise awareness on the topic. Pinqy Ring is a role model to many, an inspiration to all women, and to settle for less is not an option.

Chicago artist Hebru Brantley as created “The Watch,” a sculpture installation representing the troubles and triumphs local students face in the Chicago neighborhoods they call home. The 16-figure sculpture, inspired by conversations with students from Chicago Public High Schools who are part of the CIW YOUTH program, re-envisions Brantley’s original characters to enliven the public space while stimulating community revitalization and national dialogue about the obstacles facing today’s youth. “The Watch” is currently on view in Pioneer Court Plaza at 401 N. Michigan Avenue, outside of Chicago Ideas Week HQ.
