Senior Jonathan Brown probably had penciled his name into the NFL Draft as an early entrant before last season started, but things don’t always go as planned. The Illini junior linebacker suffered a shoulder injury and was held out of the final three games of the season, effectively ending any thoughts Brown might have had about leaving school early.

2015 wide receiver/safety George Campbell received an offer from the Illinois Fighting Illini on May 23rd. He is being recruited as a wide receiver. Campbell is the best ranked WR in the class of 2015 and is ranked in the top five in the state of Florida and the top twenty recruits overall.

Although he is only a sophomore in high school, the Florida native is receiving plenty of interest from across the country.

2014 fullback/running back Gerald Owens received an offer from the Illinois Fighting Illini on May 23rd. Owens is one of the top five recruits in the state of New Jersey and one of the top ten running backs. He is also the 75th best recruit in the country.

The kickoff time of Illinois’ Homecoming Game at Memorial Stadium against the Michigan State Spartans has been announced. The game will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CT on October 26th.

This year’s homecoming game will be the first meeting between Illinois and Michigan State since 2010. The 2010 game was in East Lansing and the Spartans beat down the Illini, 26-6.

Illinois came into Friday with momentum from their game against Michigan. Sophomore John Kravetz set the tone for the Illini on the mound in the win. However, that momentum didn’t carry over into Friday.

In 30 years, when we look back on Illini Basketball in the first 15 years of the new century, I think there’s one simplification that we’ll settle on:

“When Bruce Weber took over for Bill Self, Self left him with a Final Four roster. When John Groce took over for Bruce Weber, Weber left him with a few seniors.”

Here’s what I mean. Bruce Weber struggled with his recruiting pretty much from the moment he arrived on campus until October 11, 2007. On that day (well, that evening and the next morning) DJ Richardson, Brandon Paul, and Joseph Bertrand all said yes to Weber. Recruiting picked up from there – we added Tyler Griffey to the 2010 class, landed a top-10 class in 2010, and landed a fairly solid 2011
