Google's Project Tango

Recently, Google has just announced their new project called “Project Tango”. Project Tango is a new phone with highly customized hardware and software, designed to allow it to track its motion in full 3D, in real-time, as you hold it. In the prototype which was unveiled by Google, the smartphone is fitted with 3D sensors as part of its Project Tango – which aims to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion.

The phone is equipped with a variety of cameras and vision sensors that provides a whole new perspective on the world around it. It works by emitting pulses of infrared light and records it with a sensor when it reflected back. The sensor can make a quarter million 3D measurements every second, allowing it to build a detailed depth map of surrounding space. Google says the Tango smartphone can capture a wealth of data never before available to app developers, including depth- and object-tracking and real-time 3D mapping. And it's no bigger or more dependent on power than your typical smartphone.

It runs Android and includes development APIs to provide position, orientation, and depth data to standard Android applications written in Java, C/C++, as well as the Unity Game Engine. These early prototypes, algorithms, and APIs are still in active development. So, these experimental devices are intended only for the adventurous and are not a final shipping product.

The processing chips used in Project Tango is Myriad 1 vision processor developed by Movidius (A company that has been working on computer vision technology for the past seven years), which Google paired with sensors and cameras to give the smartphone the same level of computer vision and tracking that formerly required much larger equipment. In fact, El-Ouzzane says the technology isn't very different at all from what NASA's Exploration Rover used to map the surface of Mars a decade ago, but instead of being in a 400-pound vehicle, it fits in the palm of your hand.

After we have all the data, what can you do with them? That's really up to app developers and is the reason Google is giving out 200 of these prototype devices to developers in the coming weeks. The devices that we saw were equipped with a few demonstration apps to show off some of the hardware's capabilities. One of the apps was able to display a distance heat map on top of what the camera sees, layering blue colors on far away objects and red colors on things that are close up. Another took the data from the image sensors and paired with the device's standard motion sensors and gyroscopes to map out paths of movement down to 1 percent accuracy and then plot that onto an interactive 3D map.

One of the demos was an app that was able to capture a 3D model of a scene in real time and draw it on the display as you moved the device around the room. It's pretty amazing to see a three-dimensional model of the table in front of you get drawn in real time in just a few seconds by a smartphone. The potential applications for this type of technology are pretty widespread, with the most obvious ones being 3D-mapping apps for room and building planning. But El-Ouzzane notes that the depth-tracking technology could also be used to help the visually impaired "see" in front of them and give them warnings and alerts to obstacles in their paths. It's not hard to imagine this being integrated into a wearable necklace that would replace the age-old walking stick. Other applications could be advanced augmented-reality games that provide far greater detail in scenes and integrate more models of real-world objects. Movidius' processor can feed a lot more data to a smartphone's graphics chip than a standard camera, giving the GPU that much more to work with when developing a scene. The visual-effects world could also use this technology to build 3D sets and models in record time and with little work compared to what is required today.

El-Ouazzane wasn't able to tell us how much the Project Tango device cost to build or when we'll be able to see something using this technology in a consumer product, but he was confident that it won't be very long before everyone has computer-vision-equipped smartphones in their hands. Google says that developers that have applied for access to the prototype device should have it by the middle of March, and chances are we'll see the products of those developers' efforts in the very near future.

DARPA's Mind Controlled Prosthetic Arms

In this 21^st century, the Pentagon’s research division, DARPA, has been at the cutting edge of prosthetic developments. After six years of development, the Revolutionizing Prosthetic program has developed two anthropomorphic advanced modular prototype prosthetic arm system, including sockets, which offer increased range of motion, dexterity, and control options.

Prosthetic arms are artificial devices that are utilized to approximate the appearance and function of a natural hand. While many models have limited mobility, advances in technology have made it possible to create a prosthetic arm that is capable of gripping objects, holding pencils, and even moving in a natural manner with the wrist and forearm.

Over the years, prosthetics have made it possible to develop artificial limbs that not only restore some degree of function for amputees but also resemble natural limbs more closely than before. This is especially true of the prosthetic arm. Earlier models were sometimes simple metallic designs that did not include individual digits. Instead, the hand was characterized by a claw-like design that made it possible to grip objects, but offered little more in the way of functionality. Models of this type were entirely functional, with no attempt to provide even a slight resemblance to a human hand.

Today, there are many prosthetic hand designs that offer a wider range of mobility and also provide a more natural appearance. Thanks to advancements with resins and other synthetic materials, it is now possible to cover the body of artificial hands with what appears to be human skin. Computer technology has also rendered the bulkier hydraulics of past decades obsolete, allowing the prosthetic hand to be contoured into a shape that is much more lifelike. Many models today are equipped with sensors that make it possible to establish a rudimentary biological connection with the wearer, a feature that can often help provide more effective control over the device.

The difference between other prosthetic arm and the prosthetic arm that is undergoes the DARPA’s research, is that DARPA’s prosthetic arm re-attaching existing nerves in the amputee’s upper limb to bands of muscles in the chest, which serve as surrogate controllers for moving the artificial limb. After the replanted nerves have innervated the chest muscles, thinking about arm and hand movements causes these muscles to contract. A myoelectric sensor detects the contractions and sends the signals to an amplifier and digital signal processor, which in turn sends command signals to the artificial arm and hand. Unlike direct brain neural interfaces, the prosthetic connects with nerves in the patient’s limb, therefore requiring less serious and less risky surgery.

It doesn't require any visual information to operate, allowing the wearer to control it without maintaining visual contact. This makes "blind" tasks, like rummaging through a bag, much easier.
A flat interface nerve electrode (Fine) provides direct sensory feedback to the patient. Fine is a way of hacking into the body's nervous system by flattening a nerve. This exposes more of the nerve to electrical contact, making it easier to interface with it. Researchers at Case Western Reserve University, involved with the touch-sensitive prosthetic, previously used Fine to reactivate paralyzed limbs.

How does it work? After a limb is amputated, the nerves still work as they once did—they just don’t lead anywhere anymore. So, soon after the amputation, doctors surgically reattach severed nerve endings to different muscles in the arm. Using a type of neural connection called targeted muscle re-innervation (TMR), the nerves can be re-wiring from amputated limbs to the prosthetic arms, so, when the wearer thinks of moving his hand, elbow, or wrist, the old nerve groups works as it used to be. Now, however, they contract these new muscles. A computer learns to recognize various muscle contraction patterns as commands for particular movements of the prosthetic—‘turn wrist’, ‘close hand’, or ‘bend elbow’ .

The greatest benefit of this newly developed prosthetic arm is that, it gives hope to human with disabilities. In neuroscience, this DARPA’s Prosthetic Arm is set to take over a real arm, letting the receiver control it with their thoughts, fired up with brain cells. This is a better alternative to prosthetic arms in function and for them to regain motoric skills and subsequently independence.

Space Elevator - Devy the Gravity and Reach the Outer Space

After the space shuttle Columbia lifted off on April 12, 1981 from Kennedy Space Center, to start the first space shuttle mission, the dream of a reusable spacecraft was realized. Since that time, NASA has launched more than 100 missions. Each mission was done by launching a large rocket that has to be built from a scratch. It surely cost a lot to make even a single rocket, and the additional cost to launch the rocket (approximately $10,000) would be a very burdensome budget.

Considering the cost and the time to make and launch the rocket, scientists have to figure out how to send people or machines into space at a low cost and the spacecraft has to be reusable. By borrowing the Russian scientist, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky’s concept about the tower that reach the earth’s geostationary orbit, they have come out with a concept of a new space transportation system that could make travel to Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) a daily event and transform the global economy. The space transportation system is called the “Space Elevator”.

space elevator is a proposed type of space transportation system. Its main component is a ribbon-like cable (also called a tether) anchored to the surface and extending into space. It is designed to permit vehicle transport along the cable from a planetary surface, such as the Earth's, directly into space or orbit, without the use of large rockets.

To better understand the concept of a space elevator, think of the game tetherball in which a rope is attached at one end to a pole and at the other to a ball. In this analogy, the rope is the carbon nanotubes composite ribbon, the pole is the Earth and the ball is the counterweight. Now, imagine the ball is placed in perpetual spin around the pole, so fast that it keeps the rope taut. This is the general idea of the space elevator. The counterweight spins around the Earth, keeping the cable straight and allowing the robotic lifters to ride up and down the ribbon.

The centerpiece of the elevator will be the carbon nanotubes composite ribbon that is just a few centimeters wide and nearly as thin as a piece of paper. Carbon nanotubes, discovered in 1991, are what make scientists believe that the space elevator could be built. Carbon nanotubes have the potential to be 100 times stronger than steel and are as flexible as plastic. The strength of carbon nanotubes comes from their unique structure, which resembles soccer balls. Once scientists are able to make fibers from carbon nanotubes, it will be possible to create threads that will form the ribbon for the space elevator. Previously available materials were either too weak or inflexible to form the ribbon and would have been easily broken.

Once a long ribbon of nanotubes is created, it would be wound into a spool that would be launched into orbit. When the spacecraft carrying the spool reaches a certain altitude, perhaps Low Earth Orbit, it would begin unspooling, lowering the ribbon back to Earth. At the same time, the spool would continue moving to a higher altitude. When the ribbon is lowered into Earth's atmosphere, it would be caught and then lowered and anchored to a mobile platform in the ocean.

The ribbon would serve as the tracks of a sort of railroad into space. Mechanical lifters would then be used to climb the ribbon to space.

While the ribbon is still a conceptual component, all of the other pieces of the space elevator can be constructed using known technology, including the robotic lifter, anchor station and power-beaming system.

Lifter

The robotic lifter will use the ribbon to guide its ascent into space. Traction-tread rollers on the lifter would clamp on to the ribbon and pull the ribbon through, enabling the lifter to climb up the elevator.

Anchor Station

The space elevator will originate from a mobile platform in the equatorial Pacific, which will anchor the ribbon to Earth.

Counterweight

At the top of the ribbon, there will be a heavy counterweight. Early plans for the space elevator involved capturing an asteroid and using it as a counterweight. However, more recent plans like those of LiftPort and the Institute for Scientific Research (ISR) include the use of a man-made counterweight. In fact, the counterweight might be assembled from equipment used to build the ribbon including the spacecraft that is used to launch it.

Power Beam

The lifter will be powered by a free-electron laser system located on or near the anchor station. The laser will beam 2.4 megawatts of energy to photovoltaic cells, perhaps made of Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) attached to the lifter, which will then convert that energy to electricity to be used by conventional, niobium-magnet DC electric motors, according to the ISR.

Once operational, lifters could be climbing the space elevator nearly every day. The lifters will vary in size from five tons, at first, to 20 tons. The 20-ton lifter will be able to carry as much as 13 tons of payload and have 900 cubic meters of space. Lifters would carry cargo ranging from satellites to solar-powered panels and eventually humans up the ribbon at a speed of about 118 miles per hour (190 km/hour).

If the space elevator is realized later in the years forward, in addition to seeing from the technological point of view, we also have to look from the standpoint of the impact on society. Space elevator is a great yet a very dangerous technology, because it involves not only the environment on the earth, but on the space which is mostly unreachable and unpredictable. If we look at the bigger point of view, we can see that the space elevator compared to the earth is only a tiny fragile string attached to a ball, so it is very easy for it to break up if anything happened inside or near the earth. For example, the lightning stroke can damage the cable; meteors can easily break the cable or destroy the elevator although the chance is tiny; Wind loading study that can vibrate the cable; atomic oxygen in the upper atmosphere which is extremely corrosive and will etch the epoxy in our cable and possibly the carbon nanotubes; radiation damage; and the possibility of environmental impact during the construction.

Besides its impact to the environment, the space elevator gives society a great amount of contribution that gives the advantage for the people. First, space elevator has the potential to transform the global economy. It helps the economy such as reducing the cost needed to make a spacecraft and it may bring us to a new world of economy. Second, it gives us a bigger chance to study about the space. It also helps the scientists to collect data, real-time, without using any kind of robots/special devices. And the last but not least, it gives all the people in the world a chance to go to the outer space and see what’s going on above our earth, to know, and to study all things outside the earth.

Novint Xio - Revolutionary Technology for Gaming Device

Wii, Kinect, Leap motion, and Oculust Rift were the beginnings of a major revolution for gaming, allowing you to get up off the couch and actually experience some of the physical action of games yourself.

After those gaming devices hit the market, recently, Novint, the company that has created the Falcon controller, is taking that up a notch with the Xio, a self-contained force-feedback immersive exoskeletal gaming arm.

Novint Xio is a futuristic gaming controller that uses the prototype of exoskeletal arm that functions as a game controller. You strap it on, and as you wave your arm around, the Xio tracks your movements and translates them into in-game motions. Players have the option to stand in front of the TV like current Wii technologies, or they can sit at a desk and do control with their wrist movements.

The difference between this gaming controller and other controller is that, unlike current motion control technologies, you will be able to feel what is in the game. When you shoot a gun, take a full body golf swing, jump a car, or smash a sword into a shield, you can feel the same physical feelings as your character experiences.

The ability for a game to reach out and gives you the feeling of what your character in the game experiences is something that hasn't yet been taken advantage of, but it really has the potential to make that immersive gaming experience that we all crave even more. At the moment, the most severe consequence that a game can generally inflict on us is annoyance, when you die and have to start something over. With force feedback controllers, there are physical consequences to what you do in game. The physical consequences is not only about the pain that you will get if your character gets hit or damaged by the enemy, but you can directly experience every physical stimulus, such as pistols recoil from shooting with guns, ball texture in sport games, and others. With this controller‘s ability, it'll be much easier for you to immerse yourself in the game world, which is why we play video games in the first place, and it will be a fun part when you using this controller while exercising and playing video games at the same time.

So, after a brief explanation about Novint Xio above, the next question is, what games does this controller support? Well, in the first place, the plan is to launch Xio with full game support. The Xio is expected to support for most, if not all, major AAA PC titles at launch. Part of the reason we expected this, is that Xio will use the same software base as the Falcon, so the entire Falcon’s game support, either its PC, console, or mobile gaming platform, it will work with Xio.

Besides for the gaming controller, actually Novint Xio can be used for medical applications, telerobotics, scientific visualization, physical therapy, sports training, and military simulation, and other.

SixthSense Technology for the Future

Have you ever thought of an era where the display of computer screen appears on walls and commands are given by gestures? Or a smart digital environment which talks to us to do our work and so on? Or maybe a moving picture in the newspaper just like in the Harry Potter movie? Well, in this beginning of a new era of technology where the engineering will reach new milestones, these all is possible very soon! A few years before, it was considered to be a supernatural or tantalizing imagination. But now it has been made possible. Thanks to Pranav Mistry, a genius who introduced mankind to this futuristic technology called the ‘SixthSense’. The main function of this technological wonder is to greatly augment the physical world loaded with digital information, and help mankind use natural gestures to utilize and communicate with that particular information.

So, why it’s called ‘SixthSense’? Well, everyone is aware of the five basic senses. However, in addition to these basic senses of mankind, there is one more sense, as well, and this is referred to as the sixth sense. This is the name of a technological wonder, which is very much related to the physical senses by means of which perception of something beyond the five senses is possible. In fact, the invention of this technology is expected to change the entire perception of the world. The device perceives what human eyes in general perceive, but in addition to that, it provides information in relation to the viewing object. In fact, the device has been designed in such a manner, so that it can easily project information on any surface.

SixthSense is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information and lets us use natural hand gestures to interact with that information. The device comprising a neckworn pendant that contains a data projector and a camera. Both the projector and the camera are connected to the mobile computing device in the user’s pocket. The projector projects visual information enabling surfaces, walls and physical objects around us to be used as interfaces; while the camera recognizes and tracks user's hand gestures and physical objects using computer-vision based techniques. The software program processes the video stream data captured by the camera and tracks the locations of the colored markers (visual tracking fiducials) at the tip of the user’s fingers using simple computer-vision techniques. The movements and arrangements of these fiducials are interpreted into gestures that act as interaction instructions for the projected application interfaces. The maximum number of tracked fingers is only constrained by the number of unique fiducials, thus SixthSense also supports multi-touch and multi-user interaction. Head-worn versions were also built at MIT Media Lab in 1997 that combined cameras and illumination systems for interactive photographic art, and also included gesture recognition (e.g. finger-tracking using colored tape on the fingers).

After this technology applied in the whole world, what will happen later? The short answer is that the entire world will becomes a computer, because The Sixth Sense Technology enables us to receive information on any object against any surface. With the help of the information delivered from this technology, it becomes possible for the entire world to become a computer. The device helps us to get closer to reality, and consequently, it also assists us in taking the right decision.

The greatest benefit of this device is the availability of wide varieties of applications in it.

Mapping can easily be done from any location. The features of zooming in and zooming out make the entire task of mapping easier.
Since it is portable, it can easily be carried.
There is a drawing application in the device, and this application helps the user to draw on any kind of surface.
The user can also read newspaper with the help of this device. This enables the readers to view videos along with reading the newspaper. Live sports updates are also available with the help of this device.
Book lovers can also easily grab on any book and Amazon ratings on these books are also available.

The device recognizes wide varieties of gestures. It can easily interact with different everyday objects. It can always be expected that this technology has a bright future because it might bring about a change in the way we look at the world. It can really create a magic. For instance, if you need to make a call, you can just extend your hands into the projector, and the numbers will instantly appear before you to click. Even if, you want to know time, you can draw a circle on your wrist.

It can also connect the real world with the internet, which is certainly a novel application, and can thus, be a great source of information for the world itself. Therefore, it can always be claimed that this device has a long way to go in the near future.

"Powered Suit" Exoskeleton

Continuing my post on how the development of technology helps and gives advantages to the society, now we’re going to talk about the powered suit exoskeleton that has becoming an interesting discussion lately. If you're a fan of the "Iron Man" comic books and movies, you're probably fascinated with the powered suit of armor that fictional industrialist Tony Stark puts on when he goes out to battle evildoers. Wouldn't it be great to have one of those around?

Human beings are like reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish in the fact that we all have internal skeletons. Muscles connect to the skeleton to provide motion, and we have soft skin on the outside. However, a huge percentage of the life on this planet does it the other way around. They put their skeletons on the outside, in the form of exoskeletons. Insects are the most common example, and then there are crustaceans like lobsters.

Why might humans want to have exoskeletons? Anyone who has ever tried to crack open a crab leg knows that exoskeletons are strong. An exoskeleton would certainly cut down on cuts and bruises, and it would also eliminate the need of all protective pads which sportsman usually wears.

Although having real exoskeletons wouldn't be prudent for humans, some people believe there are reasons for fashioning a wearable variety. Humans aren't the swiftest creatures on Earth, and most of us are limited in the amount of weight that we can pick up and carry. This lack of human strength encourages scientist to do a research about the exoskeleton suit. Basically, these wearable machines would give humans enhanced abilities that can make people lift hundreds of pounds as easily as lifting 10 pounds and who can run twice their normal speed.

After a brief explanation about the exoskeleton above, now, the question is what is the exoskeleton suit? Exoskeleton suit is a powered suit exoskeleton, also known as powered armor, exoframe, or exosuit, is a mobile machine consisting primarily of an outer framework worn by a person, and a powered system of motors or hydraulics that delivers at least part of energy for limb movement.

This suit works depends on the coordination of the brain and the nerve system of the person who wears it. When a person attempts to move their body, nerve signals are sent from the brain to the muscles through the motor neurons, moving the musculoskeletal system (an organ system that gives humans the ability to move using the muscular and skeletal systems). When this happens, small bio signals can be detected on the surface of the skin. The suit registers these signals through a sensor attached to the skin of the wearer. Based on the signals obtained, the power unit moves the joint to support and amplify the wearer's motion. The suit possesses both a user-activated “voluntary control system" and a “robotic autonomous control system" for automatic motion support.

The main function of a powered exoskeleton is to assist the wearer by boosting their strength and endurance. They are commonly designed for military use, to help soldiers carry heavy loads both in and out of combat. In civilian areas, similar exoskeletons could be used to help firefighters and other rescue workers survive dangerous environments. The medical field is another prime area for exoskeleton technology, where it can be used for enhanced precision during surgery, or as an assist to allow nurses to move heavy patients. Other uses of the exoskeleton suit is to help disabled people do things like a normal people do.

The example of exoskeleton suit which has been realized is HAL. HAL, which stands for Hybrid Assisted Limb, responds to biosignals detected on the wearer's skin that are sent to the muscles which in turn makes the robotic limbs move. HAL is designed to assist the disabled and elderly in their daily tasks, but may also be used to support workers with physically demanding jobs such as disaster rescue or construction. HAL is mainly used by disabled patients in hospitals, and can be modified so that patients can use it for longer-term rehabilitation.

During the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show, it was announced that the United States government had expressed interest in purchasing HAL suits. In March 2011, CYBERDYNE presented a legs-only HAL version for the disabled, health care professionals and factory workers. In November 2011, HAL was selected to be used for cleanup work at the site of the Fukushima nuclear accident. During the Japan Robot Week exhibition in Tokyo in October 2012, a redesigned version of HAL was presented, designed specifically for the Fukushima cleanup. In March 2013, ten Japanese hospitals conducted clinical tests of the newer legs-only HAL system.

Scientific studies have shown that, in combination with specially-created therapeutic games, powered exoskeletons like the HAL-5 can stimulate cognitive activities and help disabled children walk while playing.

So, how about that? Are we getting close to Tony Stark’s powered suit? Maybe, in the next few years, the iron man’s suit is not only a fiction in the comic book, but people really have their own ‘Mark suit’ in their home.

Facebook is the world’s most popular social networking website, it makes it easy for us to connect with everyone in the world, including our family, friends, colleagues and even strangers online. Yes, ONLINE, that means we can keep in touch to everyone anytime and anywhere if they got the Facebook account and they want to build a connection with you. Facebook was invented by Harvard computer science student Mark Zuckerberg, along with his classmates Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Before Facebook, Zuckerberg had already developed a number of social networking websites for fellow students, including Coursematch, which allow users to view people taking their degree, and Facemash, where you could rate people’s attractiveness.

In February 2004, Zuckerberg launched “The Facebook”, which name was taken from the sheets of paper distributed to freshmen, profiling students and staff. The website was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and gradually most universities in Canada and the United States, corporations, and by September 2006 the network was extended beyond educational institutions to anyone with a registered email address.

Well, that’s a bit of anything you have to know about Facebook in general, now let’s talk about Facebook’s contribution to the society of the third world nation, especially Indonesia. In Indonesia, the Facebook influence can be clearly seen across the nation. Almost everyone have one or more Facebook accounts belong to them. They use Facebook either for a social purpose, company interest, searching for information, products, playing games, and other purpose.

The advantage that Facebook managed to bring to this country is that it can connect everyone without mentioning any geographical boundaries which is the main problem, because Indonesia has uneven terrain and it consist of almost 1000 separated islands. So, Facebook really helps connecting the society. Other advantage that Facebook gives to the society are:

1. Sharing Of Information

The website allows us to share with others what you desire to share, ask public opinion, ask question etc. You can share your pictures, videos and what you have been up to with you.

2. Business Promotion

Through Facebook Ads and Fans page you can advertise your business. Facebook offers a very customizable ads placement service, which is also very easy to use and cost effective.

3. Entertainment

Facebook provides tons of gaming and other applications. Some people open Facebook only to play games.

4. Boredom killer

Facebook is a boredom killer, specially for students during vacations and even elderly people who are retired from their job.

Beside the advantages, Facebook also has some disadvantages. Some of the disadvantages are:

1. Less socialization with users surrounding

People who use Facebook often become addicted to use it. This can make people have a less socialization with users surrounding. In some cases, people can become a ‘Hikikomori’(a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from social life, often seeking extreme degrees of isolation and confinement).

2. Less time to study

The addicted users can’t live a single day without logging in to Facebook, so it really gives an impact to their study time, work time, etc.

3. Personal Information theft

Many people put their personal information inside their Facebook, even about where they live, their family, photos, videos, etc. This can give away access to get your personal information and make a cyber-crime under your name.

4. Cyber fraud

Swindler can easily put their false advertisement on Facebook, so they can commit fraud at ease.

After all the explanation above, if you’re thinking about joining Facebook, or if you already have one, remember to use it wisely. Facebook gives so much advantage for their users, but it also has disadvantages that can be triggered depend on how the user use their Facebook.

How Can Syrian Bloody Conflict be Solved Peacefully?

The Syrian Uprising is the ongoing internal violent conflict in Syria, starting from early 2011 to this day. It occurred as a part of Arab Spring, a series of revolutionary wave of demonstrations and protests occurring in Middle East countries toward the monarch type rules (actually in tends heavily to tyranny) who has dominant control over the country, asking for a revolution toward democracy. It all started in Tunisia, when a fruit merchant named Mohammed Bouazizi self-immolated himself as an act of protest toward police corruption and ill treatment who confiscated his goods, causing a movement of raged protesters that manage to overthrown the current reigning regime. Soon, it spreads all over the Middle East such as in Egypt Uprising where President Hosni Mubarak was overthrown from his presidential seat and Libya Uprising which forced Muammar Gaddafi to resigned from his ruler seat. As such, the Syrian Uprising is the latest conflict in conjunction with the domino effect caused by Arab Spring.

Public demonstration initially began on 26 January 2011 when Hasan Ali Akleh pured gasoline on himself in similar manner to Bouazizi which sparks massive movement of protests against the reigning government on various social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter on 3 February which is also known as the "Day of Rage". Protesters demanded the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad from Ba'ath Party which has ruled for nearly five decades following the rise of the previous ruler, Hafez al-Assad, Bashar's father, who led the 8 March Revolution in 1963 to overthrow the government then and managed to gain the ruler seat, signing the establishment of Ba'ath Party government. Since then, he has become the ruler of Syria for more than 30 years till his death in 2000, in which he is succeeded by his son, Bashar. Following the failure of peaceful and cooperative protests, the protesters begin a series of fill-fledged demonstration. However, instead of listening to protesters demand, the government started to take counter-measure actions using violence. The soldiers were given order to put down the protest waves at any cost, even it means firing to the middle of unarmed protesters while they were doing a demonstration. Furthermore, according to United Nations report, soldiers who refused to shoot down the protesters will be labelled as defectors and be shot down by their own comrades in place. This, in turn develop the events to a bloody conflict between the government and the protesters which formed their own armed groups called Free Syrian Army, consisting army deserters and civilians alike.

In response to this prolonged bloody conflict which seriously violated human rights, United Nations has taken several actions to tone down the conflict and try to take it to peaceful solution. On 18 March, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon described the use of deadly force against protesters by the Syrian authorities as "unacceptable". In a presidential statement on 3 August, the United Nations Security Council condemned "the widespread violations of human rights and the use of force against civilians by the Syrian authorities". The Western sides of United Nations Security Council (US, British , and France) suggest a resolution steps needs to be taken to resolve the conflict. However, this was vetoed twice by Russia and China which apparently supported Syrian government. Speculation arises that they have invested quite heavy in Syrian oil reserves and companies which brings them to take precaution against the effort from Western sides to take the control of Syrians oils.

I think what UN should do is first getting their voices united as one, which is to prevent this bloody war from going any longer that caused more blood to be shed. The value of people's life should be the primary concern before the independent interest of each country. Both the parties (the government and the armed protesters) should be pressed by international countries to stop the conflict and opt for more peaceful solutions, facilitated by third party such as United Nations. For this to happened, each sides must be willing to trust other parties to not take the advantage from temporary ceasefire (permanent if possible) until a resolution is made. This is in conjunction with Kofi Annan's recent effort to facilitate a Syrian-led political transition to a democratic, plural political system, in which citizens are equal regardless of their affiliations or ethnics and beliefs.

Twitter like Facebook is one of the social networking sites available on the net nowadays. Beside that, it also provide microblogging service. However, different than its counterpart, Twitter provide a service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets". Since its initial launch in July 2006, Twitter has rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 300 million users as of 2011.

One of the aspect that makes it so popular is because of the simplicity it offers. When you're using sites like Facebook which offers features such as posting unlimited texts and pictures, it become tedious to keep following it everytime. However, with Twitter, the limitation forced you to limit your message, thus making it simple and easy to understand. Another advantage is Twitter is much more light in terms of memory usage when activated than Facebook since it contains mainly short messages.That's why its far more easier to keep following everytime even using your cellphones just like when you're sending and receiving SMS.

So then, how do this little blue chirping bird helps me in any way to make myself popular? Take a look at this photo.

Who is he? His name is Justin Halpern. A 29-years old man who lives with his 74-years old dad. He has a Twitter page which is dedicated to posts ridiculous things his father said throughout the day. Using his Twitter name "@shitmydadsays", he managed to attract many followers because his tweets are extremely funny. Just so you know, his Twitter page currently has about 1.797.321 followers!! That's an unbelievable amount of followers someone who isn't a famous person or a celebrity can gather. His tweets even has inspired a book called Sh*t My Dad Says and a television series $#*! My Dad Says on CBS. Who says we can't be a star out of our daily life?

Here is another example. Take a look at this photo. Anyone can guess who he is?

Behold, he is Pete Cashmore. Umm, who is he you say? Are you sure you don't know him? Well, duh, he is the founder and CEO of mashable.com. A famous site that focuses on news on social network and new websites. Did that give you any light about him? He is currently the holder of title of the most followed person on Twitter with approximately 2.104.773 followers!! Take a look at that number! So why are there so many people followed him? Of course its because of the latest news on networks and websites which is far more easier and quicker to followed using Twitter.

So, are you ready to TWEET yet?

#3 : Create a blog which attracts much visitors

Blog is a personal journal published in world wide web consisting of discrete entries called "posts". Different than web sites which usually required some payment to buy the domain for the site, blog is free for all service. Therefore, everybody can create it without having to pay. To use a blog, first you have to create it using blog publishing tool such as Blogger.com from Google or Wordpress.com. It's easy to set up a blog. After signing in using either of the site shown above or other site of your choices, you have to design the blog display according to your taste and likeness. Then you got write an article or two the post it. Make sure to found a specific theme to your blog so your reader may not get confused when entering your blog. And don't forget to post regularly so your blog readers become urged to visit your blog every now and then. That's how you make your blog popular.

Maybe some of you think that creating a blog alone won't make you really popular compared to the creators of some famous websites out there. Well, I don't think so! Take a look at this picture...

Do you know who he is? Maybe many of you don't recognized him. But he's quite well known even as far as very famous in the line of blogging. His name is Yaro Starak. He is one of popular people whom solely rely on his skill in blogging.If you ever try to plunge in to the depth of blogging, this guy surely must be your role model. Starting as a normal college boy, in 1998 he developed a blog fan site for a game called Magic The Gathering. It wasn't successful at first, as with other guys who tried to make a blog of the same kind. At some point, at the start of dotcom era, he started to built his blog in another approach which gain him around $500 a month, which wasn't a huge money, but it's quite amazing for an university student. Many years after, he became one of the most successful blogger with his monthly income reaching around million of dollars. The amount of people who are looking up to him and hoping to follow his steps are unbelieveably enormous.

But, how could we start to do such a thing? There are many other people who also started blogs but to no avail. They didn't manage to get famous from it. Where should I start? Well, you can try to join blog competitions which are held by various sites or companies. If you try to search it through the net, you can find many of them. For example, this article is made specifically to follow the Blog Writing Competition 2012 held by AXIS corporation with the theme "Eksis dengan internet" or "Popular through Internet" as seen in the banner below.

# 4 : Make an Interesting and Creative Video of Yourself then Put It on YouTube

Have you ever wonder how to make yourself popular without having to constantly texting, messaging, or posting pictures and others? What about if you make a very interesting video, sharing it online, and get famous from it? You don't have to update it everytime or create a new video every hour for that. That's exactly what YouTube offers to us.

       Founded in 2005 by three former employess of PayPal who at the time are having difficulties in sharing a video of a dinner party at one of the founder's house online, YouTube has become the biggest video sharing website in the net containing millions of videos nowadays. More than 65.000 new videos were being uploaded every day including homemade videos, professional short movies, and others with about 100 million video views per day. Amazing! Sounds like an opportunity for me for people who wanted to get popular easily.

       Basically, you just need to create a video using handycam, webcam, or other instruments. Than edited it with video editing software such as Ulead to add some modification aor just upload it raw. Then sign in on YouTube and upload the alrady made video. Voila! Now your video is ready to be viewed by people across the world.

       Oooh! It's so cute!! Look how the innocent look of the baby is in front of the camera. And would you look at the view stats this video has obtained! They have been very popular despite most possibly then still don't understand that themselves. It's a really short scene, about 56 seconds (not even 1 minutes!). But the importance here is the uniqueness the video offers, not the length. It's so cute when the baby bites his brother's finger who scream painfully with innocent face and then laughing (also innocently) after that. Once again, they are so adorable!

       Now here's another example of someone who wanted to be famous by using YouTube. He is a common police officer from Gorontalo (a city in Indonesia) who try to stage his own performance while on duty. He lipsynch a famous Indian song called 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' by Shahrukh Khan while dancing around. His name is Officer Norman Kamaru. Take a look at this video.

Even an usually calm and serious police officer may become famous in entertainment! So, why can't you!?

#5 : Create Your Own Photoblog

Photoblog a new phenomenon in the world of blogging. Actually its not really that new you know. Just recently it had appeared in quite a number that we can be sure to separate this from normal blog.
To create this kind of blog, people mainly use online photo sharing apps like Flickr.

Flickr is an online photo management and sharing application. It is usually used to upload pictures which are used in blog created in Blogger or Wordpress. Nowadays, a new type of blog has been introduced and started to be used by many people. That is photoblog.

A photoblog is a blog which mainly features photos with little or no words at all. All the messages you want to say are expressed through the photo or picture featured. Now, this is more convenient than common blog for you who wanted to get famous quickly. You can put much unique pictures of yourselves, making people know you more because you often appear in pictures. This way, you can be popular much faster without having to make a good quality article regularly as with the normal blog.

We're getting to the last part of this article. Now I'm going to tell you another ways to popularize yourselves using the internet which requires some specific skills (especially this last two ways). The first is utilizing your skill in making illustrations and arts.

deviantART is an online community where you can share and showcasing your self-made artworks including photography, digital art, traditional art, literature, Flash animation, filmmaking, skins for applications, utilities, along with extensive downloadable resources such as tutorials. If you are good and like to make artworks and crafts, this is a perfect place for you to showcase your works. With this, you can ask for advice from other members and use it to improve yourself. Other than that, people get to see you works and become amaze with it. Making you more popular within the community. You can also create some tutorials which people will download and ask advices from you. Again, you can be popular by doing this.

What a large sum of money for playing video games! Even I wanted to do it.

       He received an honor to be voted as the greatest gamer of all time by ESReality in 2004. Also, he is included in "The 10 Most Influential Video Gamers of All Time" by MTV. Simply Amazing!!
