What to Watch on Netflix: BARE (from BFI Flare Film Festival)

Bare is the feature-film debut of young Brazilian-born director Natalia Leite. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2015, and was later presented internationally at BFI Flare 2016 where we had the pleasure to watch it.

Starring Dianna Agron (Glee), Paz De La Huerta (Enter The Void), and Chris Zylka (The Leftovers, Bare is an aesthetic narrative of friendship and self-empowerment. Sarah (Agron) is young and bored, living a dull and sheltered life in her rural hometown. After meeting Pepper (De La Huerta), a free-spirited drifter, she falls under her spell and, in a quest for freedom, she embarks on a brave journey of self-discovery and self-expression.

Recommended for: anyone with a taste for starry-eyed coming-of-age films.

BFI FLARE 2017: 6 Highlights

BFI FLARE, London's LGBTQ Film Festival has launched the programme for its 2017 edition.

The festival will run from 16-26 March and will present over 50 features and 100 shorts. As usual, the line up is split across three categories: Hearts (a celebration love, romance and friendship), Bodies (stories of sex, identity and transformation) and Minds (reflections on art, politics and community.

OnlOff Presents... Spring Summer 2017 collections from emerging talents

"On|Off Presents…" is a platform created to showcase emerging designers to keep an eye on. Jayne Pierson, Luke Rooney, Timothy Bouyez-Forge and Laura Thiess are SS17's ones to watch.

Jayne Pierson's fierce collection is characterised by an artsy DIY vibe and features bold hand-painted leather pieces and matching prints.

Luke Rooney plays with fun and whimsical designs embellished with mirror details, rhinestones, ice-cream patterns and pom-poms. In spite of the playful theme, the result is quirky but more edgy than sugary.

Timothy Bouyez-Forge experiments with pearlescent plastic and metallic PVC to create looks fit for a dystopian mermaid.

Laura Thiess, finally, presents a collection of intricate knitwear and lace and crochet patterns inspired by Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises. The designs aim to convey a feeling of sensual passion and forbidden love.

Ryan Lo's saccharine yet edgy collection for SS17 brought us to a fantasy land infused with childhood nostalgia where, looking like extravagant little Pierrots, women shine in metallic tiered dresses and harem trousers,adorned with ruffles and tricorn hats.

Elapses Dreams in the Reverie Palace - Fei Fei Cicada Spring Summer 2017 at London Fashion Week

Fei Fei Cicada's lavish London Fashion Week debut at the Victoria and Albert Museum didn't fail to impress. For SS17, the recent Central Saint Martins graduate created a magnificently opulent collection inspired by her own dreams as well as by Asian and European history. Halfway between reality and dream, Fei Fei Cicada's designs belong to no time or space. Regal gowns in a sumptuous palette of golds and coppers, are embellished with ruffle collars, delicate embroideries and exquisite brocades.

Vin + Omi's SS17 entitled The Dreaming has a dark fairytale vibe.

At the catwalk show during London Fashion Week, hundreds of black origami birds hanging from the ceiling and a gloomy lighting set a fascinating nightmarish vibe, while models wore dramatic wigs with surreal paint brushes and palettes.

The collection is also edgy and dreamlike with print silk dresses, unusual shapes and details.

Fast Women - Clio Peppiatt Spring Summer 2017 at London Fashion Week

Barbara Casasola Spring Summer 2017 at London Fashion Week

For SS17 London-based Brazilian designer Barbara Casasola created a sensual collection which oozes minimalist elegance. We find beautiful knitted dresses with daring necklines as well as tunics and trousers in delicate monochromatic shades of white, nude, camel, navy and rust.

Edeline Lee imagined her Spring Summer 2017 collection as a celebration of London's multiculturalism and diversity post Brexit.

“This season is about the pleasure I find in the everyday moments of a London life, observing the people walking down the street outside my studio" says Edeline.

In the designer's ode to London, laid back silhouettes are playfully embellished with beads and Swarovski crystals and minimalist blacks and whites are juxtaposed with pops of sky blue, red, green and saffron.

Dive In - Point Blank ._Spring Summer 2017 Collection at London Fashion Week

Point Blank ._ (Point Blank Dot Dash) is a London-based design collective with a multidisciplinary approach and a passion for "messy explorations in art, architecture, fashion, film, (sub)culture and taste".

Their SS17 collection entitled "Dive in" was inspired by the pop art masterpiece "A Bigger Splash" by David Hockney (we cannot wait to see his exhibition at Tate Britain!), and the presentation created an intoxicating atmosphere where retro poolside lounging came together with the underwater world of hypnotic mermaids.

Models wore a variety of colours and fabrics which evoked the summer heat, coloured by the neon lights of motels, exotic palms and glimmering sequins.

Typical Freaks Spring Summer 2017 at London Fashion Week

As bold and colourful as ever, Typical Freaks SS17 collection definitely lived up to our expectations. Held at the Vinyl Factory in Soho, the presentation transported us to an eccentric girl gang party where happy models played with balloons, flowers and fake dollars. Typical Freaks' Spring Summer 2017 girls are cheerful carefree and playfully flirtatious. They wear loose fitting clothes with the brand's signature eye-catching graffiti-like prints and a DIY feel.

PPQ's SS17 show, presented at London Fashion Week in the church of St. Bartholomew the Great, was a Spanish Fiesta.
Walking in espadrille wedges and carrying wicker baskets, the models introduced cocktail-sipping guests to a collection characterised by floating dresses, vibrant summer colours, bright headscarves and bold prints featuring flowers and Roncaleses dancers.

"The dancing kept up, the drinking kept up, the noise went on. The things that happened could only have happened during a fiesta. Everything became quite unreal finally and it seemed as though nothing could have any consequences" (Hemingway - The Sun Also Rises).

Teatum Jones' Spring Summer 2017 collection celebrates the young people of Glasgow. Presented on the first day of London Fashion Week at the Brewer Street car park, the show started with the screening of a film about the subject of diversity in Scotland. In the video, a group of Scottish artists, musicians, poets and designers share positive and inspirational stories about feeling fearless and accepting differences. In the form of an open letter to Scotland, Catherine Teatum and Rob Jones, the London-based designers behind Teatum Jones, expressed their love for the country for topping the league in the legal protection offered to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people.

The youthful and colourful collection mixed womenswear and menswear pieces which featured leather, lace, merino wool, printed silk and a palette of black and white combined with vibrant hues of red, green, pink, yellow and blue.

Divine Delinquent - Pam Hogg AW16

For her newest collection Autumn Winter 2016, Divine Delinquent, superstar designer Pam Hogg created a spectacular tribute to David Bowie.

Models wearing jumpsuits, coats and dresses in a palette of bright red, green, yellow and black with star prints and stud embellishments walked the runaway as the sound of David Bowie filled Fashion Scout's vestibule room.

Clio Peppiatt's Autumn Winter 2016 collection was presented with a stunning immersive installation by Amy Exton. The collection's focus on personal experience and identity are contrasted with the anonymity of the motel environment, which the setting reproduces. Embroideries and appliques with 'Do Not Disturb' slogans, horse shoes and retro illustrations characterise the garments, which feature a palette of black, purple, green and blue.

Models also wore Streetzie's adorable High Heel Bunny Slippers.
