Final Cut Pro X Is Now Released!

2011-06-21T11:37:00.001-07:00

Final Cut X is now available from the Mac App Store for $299 along with Motion 5 and Compressor 4 for $49.99 each.

Apple unveiled the completely rebuilt FCX at this year's National Association of Broadcaster's Conference, touting the programs new 64-bit architecture, something competing programs have had for over a year. The programs sports a completely revamped magnetic timeline, and absorbs the functionality of a number of programs that used to make up the Final Cut Studio Suite.

However, with the new software taking advantage of the 64-bit platform and GPU acceleration, some older Macs wont be compatible. Mac Pro users with older ATI graphics cards seem to be the culprit. However, Apple's Mac Store wont allow users with incompatible hardware to download the program. Hooray for OS integrated app stores.

Still, there seems to be some early backlash from the pro community. 9 to 5 Mac had a pro reader write in explaining these frustrations: "The new final cut pro x is being received very badly by pro editors. There is not support for many of the key features required in pro editing. Namely: No support for previous FCP project files. No support for output for tape (used in TV companies) no support for EDL and no support for XML. This is unequivocally not a a Professional program. Unless Apple release some updates addressing these key issues which mark the divide between consumer and pro, the pro community will very quickly leave apple behind."

Apple Will Announce iOS 5, iCloud, Mac OS X Lion... But Probably not iPhone 5 :(

2011-05-31T14:40:00.000-07:00

Apple made it official this morning. Next Monday, as the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference begins, Apple CEO Steve Jobs will take the stage to present this year's keynote address and roll out a host of new services and software upgrades, including that which has driven speculation within these forums for months.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m., Apple announced in a formal press release today. At the keynote, Apple will unveil its next generation software - Lion, the eighth major release of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the next version of Apple's advanced mobile operating system which powers the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch; and iCloud, Apple's upcoming cloud services offering.

Although there is no official world of a new iPhone making a splash at next Monday's kick-off :( it appears that all the hype surrounding a September iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 launch is poised to ring true. But with a slate of interesting software upgrades and new services to boast, it doesn't appear that many Apple fanatics will be left unfulfilled by this year's WWDC.

In addition to the long-awaited keynote, Apple says WWDC will - as usual - feature more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers. "Mac developers will see and learn how to develop world-class Mac OS X Lion applications using its latest technologies and capabilities," the company says, adding that "mobile developers will be able to explore the latest innovations and capabilities of iOS and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance and design of their apps. All developers can bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers."

L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass Available Now On XBL

2011-05-31T14:03:00.000-07:00

The Rockstar Pass for L.A. Noire has popped up on the XBL marketplace, even though Rockstar had said they'd release details on it some time this week. This pass gives access to the case missions, suits and weapons that were available in different pre-order packages at different retailers. These are not yet available, but purchasing the pass will have you ready for when they do release.

The pass will cost 800 MS points. Nothing yet on the PS3 version, which I'm sure will drop once the PS Store is back online, which Sony has confirmed will be this week.

- Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PCs
