Faster Internet Speed/Connection

I don't really know if this works or I am just fooling myself. When I play 'Cafe World' I always experience slow connection. I'm waiting for YouTube to load first before I can watch a video. But after I immediately tried this 'tweak', as you may call it, the connection immediately improved. Faster 'Cafe World' and no waiting for video to load in YouTube, simultaneously! Anyways, I would be glad to share this to anyone who's experiencing slow connection to the internet.

1. Right click on My Computer
2. Click Properties
3. Click Hardware tab
3. Click Device Manager
4. Double click on Ports or you can just click on the + sign
5. Right click on Communications Port (COM1)
6. Click properties
7. Click on Port Settings tab
8. Set the Bits per second to 128000
9. Set the Flow control to Hardware

As far as I am using it, there aren't any side effects or bad effects on my PC... yet! So you just better try it in your own risk. Or if it gave you good effect, tell it here on comments. ;)

Convert .DOCX to .DOC for Free

If you are having a hard time opening and reading .DOCX and other Microsoft Office 2007 documents (Excel and Powerpoint), there is a free and an easier way of viewing them without installing MSOffice 2007.

You don't have to pay some websites that offer conversion of such documents. One solution is to download the Microsoft Compatibility Pack here

For Mac users, you can use Open XML Converter that allows you to convert Open XML files that were created in Office 2008 or Office 2007 for Windows so that you can open, edit, and save them in earlier versions of Office for Mac. It can also convert Word documents, Excel workbooks, and PowerPoint presentations that are in the Open XML Format so that you can open and edit the files in Office 2004 for Mac and Office version X for Mac. You can choose to convert and open one file, or convert a large number of files.

I just found out about the relaxing sounds of Buddhist Chants. While I'm doing this blog, I am currently listening to it and it's very very relaxing! There's nothing like having a good-vibes background music in your home than always hearing your Dad complain about everything, especially seeing me always in front of the computer, clueless about what I am doing 'cause he doesn't have any idea about computers. I just finished reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and all I can say, as critics would say it, it filled me up with virtues and showed me the way to my life's pilgrimage and taught me how to listen to my heart. And that pilgrimage was referred to as your Personal Legend.

It is a fable about following your dream. It is astounding with simplicity and wisdom.

I would like to share some important verses that I got from the book and I can say that it has given me a lot of things to think about; first, about how to live my life, second, how and where to find the treasure I've been looking for or simply just following your dreams, and last is whom does my heart say I should live with the rest of my life.

Cam-Phone Vanity!

How I hate the vanity of girls when I see their profiles in friendster, myspace and others...

...with poses as if they were real models and would put on the occupation space: MODEL. WTF?!!
...the picture's angle is mostly from the top to below, showing their angle-faked faces. Trying to seduce guys showing their cleavages (even if there's none)!
...with their tongues out and with one eye winked! Duh! It's like almost everybody does it!
...with pictures only with the legs or cleavage shown, not the face. I WONDER why!
...with sexy intended (may be or not really) photos captioned: "dAmN Im FaT!=(" or something like that... <-- FISHING FOR COMPLIMENTS ON THE COMMENT BOX!
...and there's just so many others!

I wonder why some of the ladies are like this. Women's nature you may say? Well I just hate it. And they're proud to say they're cam-whores?!!

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Dunkin' Penoy is a business that I and my partner, Leo, own. It serves specialty street foods like 'tukneneng' or the fried flour-coated balut/penoy and 'kwek-kwek' or the fried flour-coated quail egg (pugo). Plain steamed balut/penoy and salted egg is also in the menu list. Our salted egg or 'itlog na maalat' is the oily type that most of the people who eat it are looking for because of its better taste. Some beverages are also offered like C2 grean tea and mineral water. It is a fast food located right in front of the tricycle station here in out place in Bicutan, Parañaque, Philippines. It is just near the SM Bicutan mall.

SAVOR

You can enjoy eating dunkin' balut/penoy/quail eggs (as what we call it) by dipping it into our special vinegar that I made. It's a little spicy but it's just enough for the common taste. If you would like to have an alternative taste, there is also the sweet sauce that I also made. You can actually sip the vinegar after eating the eggs and the taste will really drive you nuts.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

BALUT - nearly-developed embryo of a duck; fertilized duck egg; well-known delicacy in some parts of Asia, especially Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia and China

If you have seen a movie that is in YouTube and like to save it in your PC and watch it even offline, I have a simple solution for you. There are lots of options but this is what I use/do and it's very much effective.

First, choose between Keepvid or VideoDL on where would you like to download the file/movie clip from YouTube. You'll just have to copy and paste the link on the space provided.

Downloaded files are downloaded as .flv file or flash video. There is a media player that plays flash videos. One is Replay and you can download it here. Or if you like to have it converted to a certain format that you like, use Total Video Converter (see previous post) or you can also use Replay Converter and you can download it here.

After the conversion, you can now play it offline because it is already saved in your PC and you can now also have it burned on a CD/DVD.

Movies, Movies, and More Movies!

Lately, I've been downloading movies from the net thru utorrent and there has been a difficulty whenever I just finished downloading a certain movie. Sometimes, the file is in a format that you can't just play anywhere. It could be .avi, .mpeg4, divx, etc. There are lots of converters and encoders but what I'll post here are only the things that I just do/use.

First download utorrent here.
Then convert the file to a certain format your media player can play. Total Video Converter is what I use. Download here.

There are also certain files that has the kvcd format. Most of the time, you don't need to worry because there are readme (notepad) files included that will instruct you on what to do.

How to Make Fishball, Squidball, Kikiam, etc. Sauce

This recipe is just based on the sauce that I've been making at Dunkin' Penoy. ;) And the better title of this blog could've been "How to Make Sweet Sauce," but what I put up is more specific. Got any suggestions? Anyways, it's the recipe that counts. :)

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup cornstarch
2 cups water
1/2 clove garlic (minced)
1 whole onion (minced)
6 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
cooking oil

PROCEDURE:

- Mix cornstarch with water in a bowl until it thickens
- Saute garlic and onion in a pan with cooking oil until garlic turns golden brown
- Pour the cornstarch and water mixture into the sauted garlic and onion
- Add soy sauce and vinegar.
- Do not stir until soy sauce and vinegar is cooked on a medium heat
- Add brown sugar (quantity may depend on desired sweetness)
- Stir occassionally

You can also add sliced chili peppers if you prefer spicy.

You can also use this sauce in Lumpiang Sariwa. I use it as an alternative sauce for vinegar for my tindang kwek-kwek*. I'll write more about Dunkin' Penoy on the next blogs.

FUCK : Where It all Began

I do not know whether this story is true or not. I just received it as a text message from a friend. I know text messages shouldn't be taken seriously but hey, this makes sense! Here's how the story goes:

In ancient England, people could not have sex unless they have consent from the kingor unless they belong to the royal family. If people wanted to have a baby, they have to ask consent from the king and the king will give them a card to be hung outside their door while they're having sex.

Written on it is: F. U. C. K. (Fornication Under Consent of the King), hence that's where the word "fuck" came from. Now, aren't you glad you learned something new today?

Street Fighter

Personal History

It was during my fifth grade when I knew about arcade games. But it was "Street Fighter" that I fell in love with among all other fighting games such as Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat, etc. And up until now, I'm still playing the game; however, it is the latest edition that I'm playing. I liked the characters, the story, the gameplay, graphics, and everything else. I remember, I was the one covering my notebooks for school (grade school) and the design of my notebooks includes stickers of a Street Fighter character. I never learned to draw them. I just like playing the game.

Addicted

Thank goodness it still exists in a mall near our place (SM Bicutan). And almost every time I go to SM, there will be not a single chance that I will play even once. Now my friends don't wonder anymore what I will be doing staying for so long inside SM.
