We are all fairly intelligent people. Most of us have extra knowledge in certain areas even to the point that our boss gives us extra money to have that knowledge. Think back over your life and think about how much time, energy, work and money you have put into having the knowledge that you currently possess. Based on those investments, you would probably value the knowledge that you have gained. Also because of this investment, we believe that our thinking is superior to others especially when it comes to “our stuff” like “our money”, “our family”, “my family” or “my health”. Let’s see what the Bible says:

Isaiah 48:17

This is what the Lord says-

Your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel;

“I am the Lord your God,

who teaches you what is best for you,

who directs you in the way you should go.”

God doesn’t just have an expertise level of understanding in a certain area but rather has an expertise level of thinking in ALL areas. If we had this knowledge at our fingertips in an electronic device, we would do whatever we had to do to purchase one and tell everyone about it. We have this knowledge at our fingertips and we refuse to ask for the answers. Instead we trust on the limited knowledge of ourselves and our friends.

Lord, forgive me for being so prideful that I don’t even take the time to ask you for the right way to go. Help me daily to use and trust in your unlimited knowledge and apply it to my life which I am living for you. May you receive glory through this both now and forever.

What in the World is Going on?

I just finished reading a book by David Jeremiah called “What in the World is Going on?” It is a book mainly taken from Ezekiel to show us prophetic clues about the end times.

Now I have to admit that I am usually the LAST person to read these prophecy type books (I never even read the Left Behind series (insert gasp)) because I always thought that if it happened after the rapture then I don’t need to know about it because I will be with Jesus. I’m sure that others have thought similar but then I started feeling a bit convicted about studying other parts of the Bible but not looking at the books of prophecy. It felt like I was picking and choosing which parts of the Bible I liked to read and leaving others out when in reality, if God didn’t want us to read the books of prophecy, He wouldn’t have included them in the Bible!

Look at Ezekiel 38:18 and see how wrathful God will be one day after the rapture against Gog (which is a force that will attempt to completely wipe out Israel).

Ezekiel 38:18-23 (New International Version)

¹⁸ This is what will happen in that day: When Gog attacks the land of Israel, my hot anger will be aroused, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹⁹ In my zeal and fiery wrath I declare that at that time there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. ²⁰ The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that moves along the ground, and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at my presence. The mountains will be overturned, the cliffs will crumble and every wall will fall to the ground. ²¹ I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign LORD. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. ²² I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. ²³ And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’

WOW! What an awesome display of God’s power! There, Gog will appear to have Israel hemmed up and ready to destroy them when Jehovah God will step in and create an enormous earthquake that every living creature will feel, followed by chaos in which Gog will kill each other and then a storm of rain, hail, and burning sulfur from heaven and the Bible tells us that every last enemy will be destroyed.

So my question was “why”? Look at verse 23! Not for Israel’s glory but to show every nation and people of God’s greatness and holiness!!!! WHAT AN AWESOME GOD WE SERVE!

I recommend this book especially to those who have never read a book on prophecy before. My rating…3 out of 4 stars

Unfathomable!

Psalm 145:3

Great if the Lord and most worthy of praise;

his greatness no one can fathom.

“What? That is unfathomable!” You have probably heard someone say that before but the only thing that is truly unfathomable is the greatness of God. The Psalmist goes on in that chapter to tell us about how generations should pass down to each other stories about how good God has been to their family. When was the last time that I told my children or niece or nephew about how good God is? Not just when God blesses us but when we are walking through the tough valleys of life, God’s greatness doesn’t change or alter. He is still just as good today as He was yesterday. Take time today to praise God for His greatness.

“Lord, allow me to see today how good you truly are and to live my life for you in each and every area. Thank you for your greatness! It truly is ufathomable!”

“It’s Gonna Hurt Me More Than…”

Psalm 141:5

“Let the Righteous One strike me–it is a kindness;

let Him rebuke me — it is oil on my head.

My head will not refuse it.”

Have you ever heard your parents say, “this is gonna hurt me more than it is gonna hurt you”? Well, I would venture to say that it probably didn’t make much sense at the time but if you have become a parent, then you understand what they were saying. I think the same is true today with this passage in Psalms where we see the Psalmist ask God to rebuke him and strike him because it is the best thing for him. I’m sure that the Psalmist would rather have not been corrected or struck but if that was the case, how would the Psalmist ever know how to correct his waywardness. I’m sure that God would also have liked for the Psalmist to have never done wrong so that He didn’t have to correct him but because God is just, He can not simply overlook sin. Plus He loves us enough to correct us so that hopefully, we will not make the wrong decision twice.

“Lord, help me to take your correction as oil on my head and do not let my head refuse it.”

I had heard this song several times on the radio but never really paid attention to the words until I heard my daughter singing it in the car the other day. She sang “into the darkness, we shine” and it hit me like a ton of bricks. We are called as Christians to shine into the darkness of this world and be Jesus light to a world of strangers walking around in sin. I have to be honest when I say that I have not been that light that Jesus has called me to be lately. This simple song helped me to get my head and heart back to serving Jesus under any circumstance. I hope that it blesses you.

Religion is not very efficient

A lot of Americans would agree with this statement. They agree with it by not making corporate worship a priority. It should be a joy and priviledge to get to go worship your God with other like-minded believers. Think of the underground churches in other countries that do not have this same priviledge.

Most of the time when we do not enjoy being in a worship service, it is because we are focused on ourselves and not on the One whom we came to worship! Think about the last time you did not enjoy being in church…why was it? You didn’t like the preacher, you had been arguing with your family that morning, you know so-and-so over there in the pew and they are hypocrites, or you didn’t think the music minister was “contemporary” enough. It is NOT about us, corporate worship is all about Him!

I pray that instead of complaining about going to church so much or worrying about all the “other” things that we could be doing instead of church, that we take a few minutes before you get to church to talk with God and ask Him to speak to you during the service. And truly go to worship the Savior and Creator of your life and soul instead of going through the motions.

He is worthy to be praised!

Hello everyone! I’m back from an extended, unannounced blog sabbatical that was much needed. The whole blog had gotten to be a duty rather than an enjoyable hobby so I got away from it for a while. Missing My Kids!

My children have been visiting their grandparents in Alabama since Sunday and Lori and I have thoroughly missed them. I have even contemplated strowing some toys across the floor and cranking up the Disney Channel to a deafening tone but so far have restrained myself from going to these extreme measures. While Lori and I were eating last night, she said something VERY profound. We were talking about how much we missed the kids and she said, ” even though we miss our kids like crazy, imagine how much more, Jesus misses us when we choose to not spend time with him?” WOW! Praise God that I have a wife who challenges me.

So, has Jesus missed you lately? Does His heart hurt from not talking to you for a few days? A few weeks? A few months?
