All Over Overalls

Good Morning beautiful people! Spring is here and I am back. I've been on a hiatus because other things took priority in my life. In 2013 my physical and spiritual health has taken top priority so I had to cut out some things that might have been a distraction. I'm growing and healthier and I've missed the blog.

With that being said, let us look at some looks that speak life to me.... Overalls! I've always been a real fan of mixing masculine and feminine styles so this is a perfect way to accomplish this. Add overalls with your favorite strappy sandal or pump and you have a comfortable chic look! One of my favorite naturalistas, HeyFranHey, looks amazing below at the Carol's Daughter HBCU tour. I've had my eyes on overalls for a while now....

Natalie Off Duty can pull off the cropped overalls since she's so

tall and slinder. A great casual look for farmer's market shopping

or a day at the park.

The denim on denim look is always a favorite. She's just fab with

her pink lip and helmut.

Amiee's recent post is inspiration for short overalls. Summer is coming!

This year is all about being great in every aspect of my life. I think too much. I wit too long and I'm done doing both! I went to watch night for New Year's Eve and I got so much confirmation for the year ahead. Working on my relationships with my loved ones is a top priority of mine. I want great relationships so I will be a great daughter, aunt, friend, sister and girlfriend. What do you want in 2013?

1. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. This picture of B. Jones and her family with their beanies is adorable. Check out her blog.

2. We keep hearing the tern "Fiscal Cliff". It sounds like our economy is about to do a nose drive into another recession. Check out the fashionista's article on the issue and how it will affect the fashion industry.

3. I've really been into interior design lately, my pinterest is my proof. Song of Style's bedroom has inspired me to make some changes to my own!

4. Christmas has pasted and New Years is upon us but I can't forget the tragedy at Sandy Hook. I will never forget to look on President Obama's face when he first addressed the nation about this horrific act. I want the families on Sandy Hook to know that I haven't forgot about you and your lost. Prayers will continue to flow for your healing.

5. Let's end this post on a positive note. Finally, a new style post to come. Check it out New Year's Eve!

I love this mix. When I saw Karla's outfit below, I thought that the pencil skirt was chic. After seeing the other pics, this style is hot with any type of skirt. Add a pump, bootie or a sandal and you've turned a simple sweatshirt into a sassy look!

This is my first style post! Yay! I'm excited about adding this element to the blog. These photos were taken with an old school film camera and I love it! While everyone is using the dslr, I think film photography has an authentic look that I appreciate. I am also trying to learn a little about photography and starting with the basic film cameras are a great way to start!

Its been a few weeks since I have posted anything, and I want to apologize for that! Other things have taken presidence in my life but it has given me some great material for me to share. This is what I've been up to...

1. I've been learning a few things about photography, I like being behind the scenes of a shoot!

2. Took a road trip for my friends wedding. There was seven people in a seven passenger SUV. Imagine that! It was an adventure to say the least. As you can see, I was not camera ready! Cheddar and sour cream ruffles kept me sane!

3. The wedding! It was beautiful! Bridesmaid's duties called. Great times. Amazing photos by my friend Videl Smith. Look out for a post!

4. Hanging with friends in Charlotte, NC was amazing! Games nights get serious in the south!

5. I've also been on the other side of the camera. Style post to come!

6. This might not look like work but it is! Learning how pieces fit is crucial. So why not have a photo shoot? I love this Garance Dore for Kate Spade top!

7. Last but not least, I've been studying and looking for a new place to live. My Macbook has always been a companion of mine but we are practically connected at the hip lately.

Make time for the people and the things you love. Everything else will fall into place.

1. Louis Vuitton recreated the AW 12/13 show in Shanghai. Every picture I see of this magical night seems unreal. It was absolutely beautiful! See more photos here.

2. The first time I laid my eyes on this blouse I was at work and my first thought was "that looks like Dore' font". Come to find out Garance Dore has teamed up with Kate Spade to create her first print and this is the final product. I already liked the print but knowing that this is a Garance Dore' creation made my heart smile. Can you see me smiling? Check out the story on her blog here.

3. I'm always talking about my love for J. Crew and this picture explains it all. The shirt. The tie. The aqua cafe' capri. Then they give the model a fresh caramel macchiato (that is what I would be drinking, or 2% milk, I'm a child) to make her a relatable working woman. Nice work J.Crew.

4. Karla makes me crazy all the time but this white-fringe bikini top was awesome! Karla is definitely one of my style icons. Check out her blog here.

5. The 2012 London Olympics are over but here is one moment that made me proud to be an American; the women's 4x100m relay! The American team won the race, shattering the world record that has been in place since 1985. Nice work ladies! The London games were phenomenal and I can't wait to see the games in Rio!

I want them. These babies have been around for a while but they're still the hottest shades under the sun! I might have to splurge at some point. I don't see these beauties going out of style! I would wear them forever. My friends and family will have to remind me to take them off at night. A slight exaggeration but you get the point. So if you get an overwhelming urge to put a smile on my face and save my eyes from UV rays, you could buy me a pair here. Just a thought.

I started training for the Columbus Half Marathon two weeks ago. The race isn't until October 21, but I am so out of shape. I have an old hamstring injury haunting me along with a toe injury but I refuse to sit this race out! If I keep up with my resistance training and stretching I know I will be alright. Watching my boy Nathan jog down the deserted road will stick with me during my runs. I'll picture this 12 year old boy (from Ohio by the way) pacing himself and never giving up. Thank you Nike and Nathan. Be inspired. Watch Nathan.

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! I was working a lot myself but I managed to hit up Columbus' monthly gallery hop on Saturday and ended my night listening to jazz at sidebar. I also checked out Total Recall, cool film. Anywho, I want to start showing my five favs of the week. This segment will be on Monday or Friday featuring people, places, events, articles, and of course blogs that dilated my pupils that week! My life has been connected to the number five so I thought it was appropriate to use here! (Born 5/25/85, 5.5 lbs)

Here we go:

1. Kelly Wearstler and Christina Caradona teamed up for swim week on The Glamouri. I love 60's inspired suit and statement necklace. Very nice! Kelly is amazing stylist and Christina was the perfect perfect subject. The made fabulousness!

2. Gabby's Gold! The Olympics have been taking up a lot of free time but seeing Gabby Douglas win the individual all-around competition has been the highlight of the games. The first African-American woman to win the all-around competition! Thank you Gabby for all of your hard work. Four people told me I look like Gabby Douglas this weekend....Gabby is fabulous but we do not look alike folks LOL. Get all of your London Olympic updates here.

3. Next we have a blog I'm lovin, Girls Off Fifth! It is a sister duo doing their thang! Check them out here.

4. Style.com's Matthew Schneier asked the question "What is Chic?" This word is over used so Matt investigated the orientation of the chic and what it really means. This is a good read for a fashionista. Very enlightening. Check out the article here.

5. Lollapalooza took over Chicago this weekend. Here's a concert goer looking like she's have a great time. I love the wine colored hat and humongous shades! Check out more concert style here.

Marissa Mayer is the new CEO of Yahoo. That statement carries so much weight, since she is a woman, 1 of 20 female CEOs in a fortune 500 company and she is only 37 years old! That is pretty remarkable. You would think the buzz would be around her new position but its about her being pregnant. People have been questioning her decision to take the position while she is pregnant and are actually giving her slack because she plans to work during her maternity leave. The audacity of Mrs. Mayer working while she is at the top of her game. People are hilarious always trying to diverge a situation by focusing on the frivolous details. Now don't get me wrong, being pregnant is amazing! It's a blessing to have a child and necessary to sustain life but it isn't groundbreaking. Being a female CEO of a fortune 500 company is the big news! It is exciting how many options women have now. Work or don't work. Have children or don't have children. Women have the right to choose! I'm not talking about keeping a child, I've touch on those rights here before. Marissa Mayer is an example of a lady who has decided to do what is right for her despite the ridicule. She has made her own rules of success. Women can do as much or as little as they please. But they do it well! So I'm celebrating Marissa's right to choose! I wish her luck personally and professionally.

The high waist long skirt with a fitted sweater is a look that I love. Ulyana wears it beautifully. I'm a huge fan of this woman's style period but her couture show made me want to find a long breathtaking vintage skirt as soon as possible! It is nice to see a woman look classy without showing so much skin. Extra feminine, extra fabulous.

I've been having a lot of conversations with my family and friends lately and a lot of people I know need some motivation. I'm always motivated by optimistic people doing amazing things. Oscar Pistorius is nothing short of amazing! He's running around doing his thing without legs. NO LEGS! Mr. Pistorious looks amazing too ladies. Hey. I'm just saying. Very inspiring! Next time you want to complain, just thank God for having all of your limbs and keep it moving. Mr. Pistorius is just another example of how great you can be if you put in the work!

Happy Holidays! Already? Yes! Target, Neiman Marcus and twenty-four of the Council of Fashion Designers of America members are teaming up to make a holiday collection that will knock your slippers off! 50 limited edition gifts will be available in Target and and Neiman Marcus stores on December 1st. Prices range from $7.99 to $499.99. This is a huge range there but maybe it means a huge variety of stocking stuffers! The high-low end fashion collaborations are nothing new (Target w/ Jason Wu, Missoni, Banana Republic w/ Trina Turk, Gap w/ DVF etc) but there has never been a collaboration quite this big. Fashion is really becoming affordable for everyone! The 24 designers involved are:

I've been on a fashion show kick these days. My browser is glued to style.com. I'm fascinated with what inspires designers and watching their masterpieces go down the runway. Couture lines are always exceptional because it is art on the runway. Look at it! Now the pieces above are not my favs from the lines but they worked well with this post. I wonder what a model was thinking when they found out that they would be wearing a butterfly on their mouth. Or blue blockers with a Givenchy Couture gown. At first I felt a way about covering up a models mouth like she doesn't have a voice. Then I thought, lighten up bob! These women are getting paid well to wear butterflies. They are A O.K! Maison Martin Margiela upped the ante when he brought back an old staple and decided to conceal the entire face. "Just put on the mask. Go ahead!"

Emilio Pucci had a safari inspired lookbook that made me want to tackle the great outdoors. Jourdan Dunn looked fabulous also! This is one of the main reasons I wanted to review this collection. Get it girl! Plus we see a little of everything here; swimwear, gowns, prints, jackets. I love the army green. It is one color that always stays relevant.

Resort Reviews: Barbara Tfank

This is the 60's house wife collection. All of these looks remind me of a a simpler time for women where dressing up on a daily basis was the norm. Where women did not a gala or an anniversary to look fabulous. Now mom jeans and t-shirts are what we usually see in suburbia. The 60's was a time when clothing was impeccably made and half the price. Oh how I wish I could find a new amazing dress like the pieces below that didn't break the bank! Barbara Tfank made me want to bake a cake in a cocktail dress while listening to a Sinatra record. Anywho, it's nice to see someone be inspired by this era. Now I'm not sure what inspired Ms. Tfank but this collection speaks for its self. Seeing a modern take on the 60's is appreciated. It looks like the American style with the Italian fabrics. It just makes my heart smile!

Resort Reviews: Herve Leger

I'm craving a Herve Leger swimsuit. I would go to some exotic island and wear my swimsuit the entire time. These suits are always amazing and I love seeing the different styles each year! Any woman could find a style that would make them look like a million bucks! I wasn't even concerned with the rest of the collection, it was all about the wet suits!

Resort Reviews: DVF

DVF shocked me with her 2012 resort collection. Everything was so contemporary! Diane is definitely reaching out to a younger demographic with this show. Dresses were shorter, heels were higher and prints were brighter. DVF always does a fantastic job with prints but this collection was the print palooza of the season! The styling was impeccable in this lookbook with a plethora of clutches and the black strappy sandals from heaven. DVF surely shocked me with hip resort collection.

The look on the left is my favorite in the collection. Anything with a lapel catches my attention. I imagine someone wearing this to the MTV awards or a Paris fashion week.

These two looks just showcase the variety of prints and patterns in this collection. I love the abstract pattern on the right. I would to get a better look at that jacket she is holding!

This is the separate but equal section. I enjoy all of these pieces as individuals! The peek-a-boo blouses are a must! I would also rock with pink coat with everything I own.

Diane gave us the mini versions of the wrap dress. I wonder what fabrics she used. I see the chic 20 something rocking both of these looks. The dress on the left is pulling at my heart strings!
