I haven't posted much of my journey to beach body perfection, so I figured I should start. I wanted to share this bit of information. Yesterday after work, I decided to stop by Ralph's and I stumbled on protein bars that were on sale. If you know anything about protein bars, you should know that they aren't very tasty or have the best texture. So I decided to grab a couple of different flavors, so I can find one I really like..and I FOUND IT! I seriously hit the jackpot. This Promax Lemon Bar is by far the best tasting protein bar ever. I just ordered myself two cases online... can't wait! If you ever find yourself in a bind and all you have access to are protein bars, the Promax Lemon Bar is the way to go.

Last night got my lazy ass out of my bed to go watch this CRAZY movie... Seriously, great story! Suspenseful and very innovative. If you get a chance, watch this movie. Here is the premise.... Movie is about three high school kids who end up getting superpowers after the find some sort of weird cave deal... Just like Spidey's grandpa said, with great power comes great responsibility. So not all of them can handle it... so great. And in case you were wondering, I went to see this by myself. haha.

This weekend I was invited my my friend's birthday party in Palm Springs. Having never been to Palm Springs I had no real clue what to expect... All I can say though was that I was blown away!! So relaxing, such a different atmosphere and the weather? IMPECCABLE! When I grow up, I want to have a house in Palm Springs.... Never thought I would say this, but its so nice to get out of LA for once.

The Anatomy of a Gay Pool Party

Dear Straight People,
I was walking down the street the other day, thinking about how commonplace Gay Pool Parties are on hot summer weekends in Los Angeles, when I realized that there were probably people in the world that had never attended a Gay Pool Party. Thus, I’ve decided to write a shocking exposé on the world of gay pool parties. All the deepest, darkest secrets (from a stylist) will be revealed. Here we go:

1. The first thing to know about Gay Pool Parties is that they are all sponsored by a high end alcohol brand. I imagine this is because Gay people are rich and their friends are all executives at high end beverage companies. Also, rich people like to save money whilst promoting their rich friends. Or whatever.

2. The second thing to know about Gay Pool Parties is that the boy bartenders are always beautiful. And straight. So single ladies, find yourself a Gay and make him take you to a party. The bartenders will be so relieved to see you that they will fall in love with you even though they are most likely out of your league. This is Los Angeles after all, where every waiter is an actormodel.

3. Every Gay Pool Party is at a ridiculous house in the hills that cost more money than the GDP of most countries. These homes are usually decorated in the contemporary style by a young interior designer with no skills who happens to be really hot.

Some houses (like the one where these photographs were shot) are decorated tastefully. Modern/stark/contemporary isn’t really my thing, but for that style I must say this house was done impeccably.

4. If you go to a gay pool party do not A) Expect to know the host or B) Expect to meet him. Try as you might to find him and thank him for having you over, he will evade you for the entirety of the party. The host only shows up (standing right behind you) when you say something rude like “where’d they get that AWFUL vase!?!” Thus, if you are just dying to know who the owner of the house is, scream something loud and objectionable.

5. Every gay person that is rich enough to host a Gay Pool Party has met the president. It’s just a fact of life.

6. Every Gay Pool Party house is decorated in ridiculously expensive original artwork. Like these signed Lichtenstein silkscreened prints (valued at $150,000).

7. Gays love houses with a view. So if you’re at a Gay Pool Party and there ins’t a view, it is important that you leave immediately.

8. Gays don’t like square pools. So if you attend a gay pool party expect a nontraditional pool shape. Don’t be afraid, the water is still warm and inviting. In fact, the water at Gay Pool Parties is, on average, 12 degrees warmer than the water at straight pool parties. Gay people hate cold water.

9. An important thing to note about Gays is that none of them have body hair and they all smell like coconuts. They are also impeccably clean and don’t need to wear sunscreen, because their Ken Doll skin tans naturally in the sun, protecting them from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

10. Gays love angles and drama, and design their houses accordingly.

11. Finally, gay pool parties are really more like a swimsuit competition than a party. Everyone has 4% body fat, a brand new brightly-colored swimsuit, and perfect “Talented Mr. Ripley” hair. It’s like being trapped in a colony of models that have no idea there are people out there who aren’t models. Which is “fun”(?) right?

Food... There is more to Mexican food than burritos and tacos... Seriously, our food is culinary genius. Now one of the biggest differences between the US and Mexico cuisine is that Mexicans are able to enjoy fresh food. Everything comes from the fields/farms into the cities and vice versa. Mexico is still very agrarian. Vegetables are fresh, meat is usually butchered the same day and usually purchased at the butcher shop... The things that are bought in packages are pretty rare.

anyways, here are some of my food adventures....

My Mexican excursion started off in Mexico City where my aunt turned me to this wonderful establishment called El Moro. El Moro is a churreria or a place where you can buy these sugar coated fried pastries. Because we mexicans favor the salty over the sugar El Moro is also sells THE BEST tortas ever made by man. A torta is a Mexican sandwich. The Al Pastor tortas are seriously out of this world and I would take a trip there a la Bake Sale Betty just to have another. Notice the clusterfuck that is the line outside of the place...

Mexicans can be foodies too!

My journey took me down to Oaxaca a quaint little state in the south west part of the country..

I'll say it till I die.. most breathtaking city in all of Mexico.

The picture above is a meat market... now I know you are probably thinking, this HO! Not that kind of meat market... Its literally all these stands of food that have all this meat laid out and you pick how many kilograms you want to have cooked...

There is NO ice cream/gelato/etc that compares to the ice cream from Mexico... Always handmade, always fresh, there is seriously nothing like it... My favorite flavor was Beso Oaxaqueno whose main ingredients are carrot and coconut.

STOP... I can't even T Y P E...

I seriously tried the best BEANS of my life in this small town of Mitla, Oaxaca.. They are refried, mashed and have an additional secret ingredient that makes this ordinary dish into an exceptional one. Poleo or Pennyroyal herb (look it up) and some type of chili... They taste like nothing you have ever tried... I couldn't get enough of the.

Oaxaca will forever in my heart be THE cheese state... This cheese melts becomes stringy, tangy and overall life altering... You can get some in the states, but it doesn't taste the same as the one from Mexico..

Every time I think of the place I was born I get sort of depressed... What would my life had been like if my parents had decided to stay in our country? What if I had been left to stay back and live my life there... What would I have done? Would I still be here?

I've been really really lucky and grateful for the opportunity to come to America and educate myself. I take nothing for granted and I hope that in the near future I can let my parents know some how some way what their sacrifice means to me.

She provides confidence and caution.... Brings me to the point of this post... confidence... My friend Teo talks to me often, I've been slowly but surely building mine up (I wasn't not confident before, but now I'm intense) Can you be confident, yet still doubt yourself? Is being constantly doubtful a disease? Can you imagine what the world would look like without a single doubt? How much better or worse? Hard to tell actually... Imagine how many more decisions we would be able to process per minute.. haha.

Guess who got a new voice box? If you've been in my car maybe you've noticed that Sprinkles has had the same CD stuck in there forever... why? Don't know. It doesn't come out... So I decided to fix him. Got up super early, headed down to my local Best Buy after copious research and settled on this wonderful new voice box for Sprinkles. He is loving it! Cost a lot more than I expected, but thanks to my boss, this happened!

New Years resolutions

Everybody has them… I actually plan to complete them (or try to)…

Be ready for LA Beach Season. I was completely unprepared for the invites and how intense people were about it.. This year I’m going to be ready. Going to get that beach ready body by June 15th. By beach ready body, I mean Aussiebum ad worthy. How am I going to do it? Take lifting more seriously. Take my diet more seriously, start cooking again and my next point.
Give up the booze. Simple as that. I may bend the rules to a one drink maximum in situations of dire need but the goal is to finish 2012 booze free.
Apply for US Citizenship. I finally plan to turn that application in and swear allegiance to the country I live in.
Step up my wardrobe game. I need to step it up. This will become easier as number 1 comes to fruition.
Zero credit card debt. Tough, but if my financial models are correct this can be done.
