Siam Reap Part II

2014-04-08T09:49:00.000-07:00

Here are the rest of my pictures from my trip to Siam Reap, the first part is our visit to the Cambodian floating village, Kompong Phluk, which was awesome, the road to get there is long and beautiful, don't forget to bring a dust mask! It's so worth it, there is not a lot of tourist at all, at least at the time we went... Back to the city we decided to see an Apsara dance show, the local dance and I do not recommend it, it was very boring and touristy... The next day we explored 3 more temples, and hiked to this amazing waterfalls with carved rocks, this was definitely one of the most magical experience, and we were the only one there which made it even better ! The place is called Kbal Spean. Millions of butterflies, hundreds of tree species with huge and twisted roots are the things you will see along the hike before getting there. it is so peaceful, we could have stayed all day there... Blessed to have visited this beautiful country, the people were so nice and funny, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere is different than anything I've felt before! If you ever get the occasion to visit Cambodia, jump on it !

Sihanoukville

2014-04-02T10:43:00.002-07:00

After Siem Reap we traveled to the South of Cambodia, to Sihanoukville a small beach town. We were surprised by how the beauty of the beaches, I would have never thought that about Cambodia. The water was almost crystal clear, and the part we stayed at wasn't so touristy which was nice. We set up camp on Otres Beach, and just relaxed from our busy days in Siem Reap. Stayed at Orchid bungalows, and spent our days at OC beach club, very good food and cocktails. Also make sure to walk to Otres beach II and past it, its a very nice walk... or even stay there if you want to be more secluded, it is a little smaller than Otres Beach I. Every Saturday they have a hippie market set up on a pond, where they have little vendors of all kinds of things, food and drinks and live music, very entertaining, sort of a mini Cambodian festival in the middle of nowhere, you must check it out! After our lazy days, we went back to Siem Reap to explore more because we didn't get our fix the first time ! Post coming soon...

Siam Reap Part I

2014-03-25T20:50:00.000-07:00

Siam Reap in the center of Cambodia is the place you must visit if you ever go to Cambodia. All the temples are there, and you will need more than one day to visit all of them. We first visited Angkor Wat, which was very massive and impressive but not necessarily our favorite. Then we visited Ta Prohm, which was one of my favorite with its huge tree roots growing all over the temple. And the third one we visited that day was Bayon Temple, completely different and beautiful with all the Buddha heads on top of it... We did it all in a day. The following day we visited the floating village on Ton Le Sap lake, Chang Kneas, it is definitely something to see, but it wasn't our favorite because it was too touristic and we felt like we were intruding into the lake people's intimacy... we visited a floating school, a crocodile farm and watched the sunset on our little wood boat. If you want to do a floating village, skip that one and go to Kampong Phluk which is not as touristic, and you can navigate in between the mangrove forest... i had a way better experience at that one, and will post the photos in my next post. Don't forget to visit the old market and the night market to find some Cambodian treasures...

On another note, for my food lovers, I recommend eating at Le tigre de papier for traditional Khmer food, or any kind of food. Also for lunch Babushka was a cute little restaurant and the food was fresh and yummy (good salads). But my favorite was Sister Srey, we ate there twice. And if you are looking for a good vegetarian spot, Peace Cafe is very cute, cozy, and they have yoga classes everyday. Or you can just munch on a little snake or spider skewer from the food carts on the street...

After Siam Reap, we went down to the south of Cambodia, a little beach town called Sihanoukville, photos coming up in my next post...
