Nikon just announced the D4. This looks like the camera every other camera will try to catch up to. Here are some of the specs.

Nikon announces the 1 Series camera system and interchangeable lenses. Nikon says it’s built from the ground up with next generation technology focused on performance and simplicity. The cameras are called the V1 and J1. In the video below, I take a look at these cameras.

Apple previews Final Cut Pro X to an enthusiastic crowd during NAB 2011. This is the most significant upgrade ever to Final Cut Pro. It will be available in June for $299. In the video below I cover some of the new features and give my thoughts.

Nikon announces the D5100 DSLR and ME-1 Stereo Microphone.

The D5100 could be Nikon’s first serious contender in the HDSLR market. The camera boasts some serious specs that could give Canon and Panasonic a run for their money.

Nikon also announces the ME-1 Stereo Microphone that is designed specifically for DSLR cameras.

In the video below, I look at some of the lighting options available to HDSLR users. The options are:

• On camera LED lighting

This week we talk about the new Lensbaby Sweet 35 optic. It has a 35mm focal length, 12-blade internal aperture, controlled by a dial on the front of the optic, an aperture range from f/2.5 through f/22, and is compatible with Lensbaby Composer, Scout, Muse, and Control Freak lenses. You can order the Sweet 35 from BH Photo & Video here.

In the rumor mill, there is talk of Nikon introducing the new D5100 and some other Coolpix cameras (hopefully Nikon’s new Mirrorless System) in late March/early April. Nikon Rumors has more details.

Film & Digital Times got a sneak peek at some new Sony video cameras while visiting  Sony’s tech center in Japan. One camera is called the NXCAM 35 and the other is a >4K motion picture camera. Both should be either announced, or previewed, at NAB 2011.

This week there wasn’t much in the way of camera news. Which was a good thing since I was sick.

Photojojo has this really cool 8X telephoto lens kit for your iPhone. The kit comes with an 8X lens, a phone case, a mini tripod and a cleaning cloth. All for $35! Now, that’s a deal. The image quality looks pretty good from the samples on their site. It’s no Zeiss, Schneider-Kreuznach or Sigma lens, but what can you expect from a $35 setup?

This has been a busy week. Both Canon and Nikon announced new digital cameras. JVC and Pentax also showed some cameras, but those cameras are not pretty! Actually, they fall into the b’fugly category. There is also some micro 4/3 system news too.

I don’t know about you, but I get sick and tired of all the new product PR launch BS posts. All I really care about is seeing what the new camera looks like. If I’m interested in a particular camera, I’ll check out the specs on my own. I’m also interested in finding out what’s happening in the digital camera/camcorder industry in general.

I wanted to do something different with the video below. So, I decided to try to create a “news” style video with this weeks news. I hope you find it interesting, fun and informative. Let me know if you like. Give me your feedback and suggestions to make it better.
