To Everything There is a Season

I am quoting myself here. When I worry that I am sharing too many swan images or not enough of other images I remind myself that this little site of mine is for me to share in the way that I described above. I thank you for knowing my heart and for stopping by - always in support of me and whatever season I may be in. You being here makes all seasons sweeter and brighter.

Speaking of seasons, I have taken thousands of swan and baby swan images this year. I have so many to go through - needing to decide which ones to save and which ones to delete; which ones to share and which ones to print. Many of my captures are fuzzy and a little wonky and many are perfectly fine as taken. But all of them represent a split second in time that I was blessed to live, not only beside these amazing creatures, but beside some amazing friends who share the same passion and love for nature as I do. Friends named Barb, Linda, Rob, Jess, Susan, and Cindy. There is a bond formed that hopefully lasts forever when miracles have been witnessed together.

I have debated whether or not I should share with you about our cygnets' journey this season and I have decided that I will. For those of you who have traveled with me the last few years on this swan path you know that the city in the past put the mama and papa swans, along with their babies, in the pens for protection from their natural predators and the human predators who may bring them harm. Last year, even though penned, we had no surviving babies so the city decided this year, in the hope of a better success rate, that they will raise the baby swans at their off-site facility until they are old enough to be brought back to the lake to live in their natural habitat. So far all of the babies are doing well. Therefore, the babies are only with their parents for a few days before they are taken away.

There are no words to accurately describe how incredibly ethereal these swan families are when they are together and free to be. And the babies with their enchanting curiosity and lilting innocent peeps are the epitome of what is needed right now in this crazy world.

To everything there is a season.

And sometimes the season is only a moment in time and never to be again.

And that is why I click and click.

A Pretty Morning

I spent some time early this morning photographing my friend Lori's outdoor gardens and entertaining areas. Everything was so pretty, I didn't want to leave.

Even the fallen bougainvillea was pretty.

Yes, everything was so pretty.

Feeling Stumped

The assumption was the tree would be removed with a stump remaining at the ground.

Me being me and probably the most stubborn person in the world I asked for as much of a stump to be left as possible.

I am so happy that not only was the stump not taken to the ground but it was left at about 10 feet tall. You can see it from the street. And rightfully so. Such a beautiful stump it is in its testimonial to the life it once supported.

Speaking of life, I think a vine growing up and around the stump would be wonderful don't you think? And I am loving these potted plants and birdhouse perched on top. I can see this view from Daisy Cottage's living room window and that makes me happy too.

I really know what it feels like to be a tree hugger now. I want to hug this stump and squeeze it tight. I am just so grateful that it is still in sight.

I Spy Something Pink

Papa Goose and Little Mama have new babies! And a new "Pinkie" to love.

Across the street from where they live on the lake is a beautiful rose garden with the most beautiful pink roses ...

And also across the street from where they live is this lovely pink house ...

If I lived here I would have to have a "Duck Crossing" "Duck, Swan, Goose Crossing" sign for sure.

Sentimental Journey

What does one do when one is a sentimental one and her tree is falling down and her tears are also simultaneously falling down but she really does know that in the big scheme of things in this precious life that this is so not very tragic and actually not very tragic at all and actually a blessing that she even had a tree to grieve?

She realizes that though her tears may fall for a tree, they also are falling for all losses - big and small and in between.

This she knows. Because she knows herself.

So she reminds herself that she was very blessed to live beside and under such a beautiful tree for all of these cottage days and for that she must be grateful.

And then she does what she usually does - she soothes her soul with whatever it is that makes her soul soothe in this moment and in this now.

And she is so grateful. Fallen tree and all.

The Tree

It was love at first sight as you know. The house with its porch and its tree had me at hello.

The tree that the original owners planted in 1922 has been here for 91 years.

I have been here for 8 of them.

I have treasured this tree. I have loved looking out of the windows and seeing its beauty. I have loved the shade it has provided. I have loved capturing the magical light that has danced through its leaves with my lens.

But most of all I have loved getting to know all of the squirrels and birds who have called this tree home. A heavenly haven it has been for all of them indeed.

Today we must say goodbye to the tree. For everything there is a season and its time in the sun is done.

While I know in my mind that this is true it is going to take a while for my heart to listen.

Goodbye beautiful tree. I will never forget you.

Sleepy One

Some of us who were blessed to see this sleepy one were worried that something might be wrong as he or she was really wobbly and really sleepy but our wise positive friend, Jess, assured us that the baby was just tired from being born.

And she was right. Baby was just fine.

Adorably so.
