How much do you value the pictures of your family and especially your children? I’m not asking about a monetary expense but TRUE value. Those moments captured and preserved on paper can not be replaced. You flip through photos and are brought back to that special moment. You remember the warmth of the sun, the smell of the salt air, the touch of a loved one, all the emotions from that day, all from looking a a photograph. Sure, the paper cost a few cents, then there was the printer costs, the price of a camera or a professioan photograher, and of course the expense of whatever it was that created that moment. But the true value? Its priceless.

So if those photographs are worth so much to each of us, why do we hesitate to invest in quality professional photography? We’ll purchase an expense camera and snap off photos at all events, photos that are poorly lit, quickly composed and most likely underexposed. Then we print them off at Kmart or Big W and we grumble at the dark greenish pictures, BUT we still love the memories that were captured. We waste money on bad prints over and over again.

But professional photos cost too much. Really? The average photography client spends $600-$1100 a year on portraits. $1100 sounds like a lot to spend on prints but broken down over 52 weeks that averages out to $21 per week – if you get your families pictures done professional every other year the price is only $3 per day. If you sat down and added it up, you probably spend $500-$100 a year on fancy coffees and overpriced pastries. An iphone or similar cost $250+, designer purses & jeans more, luxury cars thousands more. Many people don’t hesitate to spend money on material possessions that will only last a short time yet those same people grumble about spending money on professional images that will last for generations.

So, how much do you value photographs of your family? Can you afford $20 a week to capture those special fleeting memories? Get out and get those pictures taken. Time flies by so quickly when your children are little and you can’t get those moments back.

I've been going to take these photo for weeks now but things just kept coming up or Ash was grumpy or the weather was bad and there wasn't enough light in our room.

Then yesterday the weather was beautiful and the light in our room was great, I get my camera out to do some test shots and what do you know the battery is almost flat and so is my spare but do you think I can find the charger no of course I can't.

I knew I had to get them done then or it was just going to be put off again.

Ash was going to start getting tired soon so I'm running around the house searching every room and couldn't find it anywhere, then just as I was about to give up I thought I'll just have a look in our walk in robe when I seen the box up on the shelf I just knew it was in there you wouldn't believe how happy I was.

So I half charged the battery and away we went, mind you it took a fair bit of bribing to get ash to stay on that bed. I'm so so happy with how they turned out I love them and there's even some that Brett likes of himself lol.

So anyway enough of my raving and on to the pictures - My Three Favourite Boys xxxx

In a couple of weeks he is going to be 2, where has the time gone?

It seems like only yesterday I had a tiny baby in my arms and now he's a little boy.

I am so glad I have so, so many photo's to document that time gone by, I don't know what I would do without them.

It's so easy to forget those little things that you thought you never would.

Soon we are going to be a family of 4 and my baby boy will be a big brother and I know he will be the best one ever. (insert hormonal pregnant women crying here lol).

But he will always be my baby boy.

Anyway that's enough of my for blubbering now.

A little brother for Ashton.

Here he is at 19 weeks today.

We are very excited and can't wait to meet him.

I will be taking maternity leave as of the 30th of April and will only be taking on Maternity, Newborn and Babies under 12 months up until this time.

I will be taking on limited Newborn sessions up until our little man is born.

13 Tips For Your Newborn Photography Session | Adelaide Newborn Photographer

1. Newborn portraits are unique in that they can’t be scheduled months out, but you can line up a photographer months out who will build time into their calendar around your due date for your session. If you are scheduling your birth, let your photographer know that as soon as possible.

2. Call your photographer soon after you deliver so you can arrange a time for the session. Ideally the session should take place within 5-10 days after birth, and no longer than 2 weeks after.

3. The session will take place at your home – do not worry about the state of your house. You just had a baby. I do not care if dishes are piled up the sink and clothes baskets spilling over. You are a new mum you need all the rest you can get, I don't expect you to clean.

4. Loosen the baby’s nappy about 30 minutes before the session. This allows time for the nappy’s imprint marks to disappear.

5. Have your house warm. Ideally, you’ll want the heater set around 25-30 degrees. For the adults it will be hot, but the baby will be toasty and happy.

6. Collect any items you want used in the session beforehand – family heirlooms, toys, monogrammed blankets, etc. I’ll go through these with you to determine what will look best in the pictures.

7. If you’d like pictures taken of the baby in the nursery, be sure all the curtains and shades are open to let in lots of natural light. No need to clean, but just try and make sure the clutter has found its way to a wardrobe.

8. Decide if you’d like pictures taken with your baby, or if you want pictures of only the baby.

9. Make sure the baby has a full belly before I arrive. Aren’t we all happier with a full belly?

10. After the baby is full, make sure they are burped really good. Gas can take a sleepy, happy baby to an uncomfortable and irritable one in seconds.

11. A mother’s smell is so recognizable (and sometimes distracting) to a baby, that it may be necessary for the mom to leave the room for portions of the session. This is not meant to hurt your feelings, but only to allow me to get the baby thinking sweet sleepy dreams, instead of hungry “where’s my milk?” dreams.

12. Be patient. If the baby gets fussy or alert, don’t stress out. A baby can sense your anxiety and we want to keep the environment as mellow as possible. We will try and get the baby comfortable again, but if that just doesn’t seem possible, we’ll take a break or we’ll work with what he’s giving us. Sometimes the best pictures are ones when the baby isn’t doing what we want.

13. Be assured that if there is ever a point where you’re uncomfortable with the poses, simply let me know.

I only want to do poses and shots that you are comfortable with.

If you breast feed and can, have at least one bottle pumped for feeding.

A majority of the pictures will work best if the baby is asleep so anything you can do in advance to encourage this is recommended.

As you can tell by this post title we are moving back to Adelaide.

Brett has been promoted but the position is only available in Adelaide.

We will be leaving Melbourne around the middle of December.

I am currently still taking sessions up until and including the 31st of October.

I am also now taking bookings for February in Adelaide.

We are very sad to leave our family and friends but we knew it wouldn't
be forever, it just came around sooner rather then later.

It's been a great 2 years!

I want to say a big thank you to all my wonderful clients you have all been great.
