Are you in the mood for something sweet with a kick of tartness?! How about some chocolate bark with crushed Sweet Hearts? Plus crushing the hearts with a hammer might help with any valentine frustration you might be feeling…

 To Accomplish: 

1. Put tarty hearts into gallon bag and smash up with a heavy object.

2. Melt Baking Chips in microwaving, stirring every 45 seconds.

3. Pour melted chocolate in parchment lined pan in a thinish layer.

4. Sprinkle desired amount of hearts in the hardening chocolate.

5. Put in the fridge for about an hour.

6. Enjoy!

I have been craving this February… craving stuffs! Adorable pillows (swirly or animal) for my living room… an outfit (shoes, dress, wallet, earrings, & ring) for a day around the office… fabric for whatever! I’ve gathered some things that have inspired me ( I’m looking at you expensive card catalog), made me say ohh! (heart waffle maker!?! sold! Also, I am quite the sucker for adorable Salt & Pepper shakers), or made me feel happy (‘We are in the Together’ print) for your enjoyment..

And please let me know what you have been scoping out this coldddd winter!

We are not super “valentine” people around here… I mean, we like the whole   LOVE  idea but kinda resent the whole forced red heart sentiment attached the Valentine tradition (that being said, I can eat like 6,000 lbs of tart candy hearts, just saying). So when I picture Valentine’s Day, I picture a nice  Family Date Night  out to a cozy diner, ordering our favorite foods, & laughing the night away… and of course then I imagined how we would dress the part… 

 For the Fella  - I pictured him in some classic grey cords accented with a Zelda inspired belt (for a personality touch ) & paired with a teal & grey flannel shirt, page boy hat (so hot!), & kicking bright green shoes.

 For Me  - I would start with a beeeeautiful teal dress, paired with a b&w hearted cardigan to honor Valentine’s day & keep me warm in the cold. Also keeping me warm is my neon green tights for a real pop and to compliment our non traditional valentine’s day color theme. Finishing touches are b&w kitty shoes, neon green hair bows, a heart necklace, & another Zelda inspired item : the Gem pin.

 For the Little Guy  - I picture him in a slightly mocking, yet still cute sweater featuring a b&w tie. Paired with that is dark grey cords, his own page boy hat, a green & black striped shirt. For the personal touches, I would add a teal, green, & black skateboarding belt and really great Joker kicks… (we really like shoes around here).

28/365 – Preparing our Smoothies…
We have started a little assembly line so we can have ready made frozen smoothies whenever we would like… Mmmm… Oranges

29/365 Making some Strawberry Chocolate Chip cookies using this recipe. These were so pretty but I had so much trouble getting them to actually cook (compleeeeetely my issue I’m sure, not the recipe!). Still, cute & festive they are!

30/365 My little guy got the super sickness again! He was feeling super yucky and his ears hurt a lot… though we ended up having a pretty great day after the medicine kicked in, watching Willy Wonka & snuggling.

31/365 – My mister made one of my design dreams come true by scoring some (free!) lockers for our coats/hats/lunchbags/etc. We are thinking about maybe changing the color but the friendly green is okay with me right now because… EEEE lockers!

32/365 – I have been doing a lot of sketching again lately and it is making me super happy. Here is me in my “winter uniform”.

33/365  - It is so crazy to watch these little sponges suck up every single thing around them. On Saturday, I caught my kiddo mimicking every face movement of my fellas much to our amusement. The bottom right picture is one of my favorites in this world!

34/365 – We finally made our smoothies! Basically we mixed 1 banana, 2 oranges, pineapples, 1 cup of apple juice, & 2 bunches of spinach for a fruit/veggie filled delicious smoothie! I was so surprised how much I LOVED it (I was afraid of “texture issues”).

We’ve been feeling blessed by the thrifting Gods lately… On our weekends we regularly go *treasure hunting* for cheap/unique/functional items for our homes at garage sales, thrift stores, good wills, etc. Here is a few things we have found lately…

This is originally for spices but we think it would perhaps be better as a tiny figurine storage (for our many many heroclix) – more specifically my lady battle teams

A garage sale score with my awesome terrible bartering skills yielded some very pretty working brownie cameras.

At a local goodwill we dug up some fun salt & pepper shakers (I am a collector) & my very most favorite find of all time – A Sherlock Holmes cabinet for (what we think) is for test tubes. I love this cabinet soooo much!  We are going to use it for spices

When the weather outside is frightening… I get excited! I love winter wears!  

This year I fell in love with a scarf and mittens at World Market that directed the rest of this years winter wears. I added a teal slouchy hat from target and I got a jacket similar to the one pictured at a goodwill. I do think this bomber jacket may be a bit cooler though… bomber jackets make me feel like a cool kid.

Sometimes you just see some art and it stops you in your tracks in awe… Mr. Skottie Young’s art did that when I first saw it.

My first exposure to him was when I saw the The Wonderful World of Oz. I fell in love with it and in fact, my kiddo’s very first comic book was part of this series. I mean, just look at the expressive linework & intruging characters!

We haven’t read through the entire series yet but it a major item on my to do list!

Then earlier this year I was again perusing our local comic store and I saw these “Baby” variant copies of superheros and I absolutely fell in love, not even knowing that it was the same artist that had previously impressed me. I vowed to find out if I could get prints of these covers (without text and whatnot) . This led me down the Skottie Young rabbit hole and I found his twitter, tumblr, website, store (with originals but no baby super hero prints – boo!), facebook , deviantart, etc! It was marvelous! On his tumblr he had almost daily sketches and oodles of awesome pictures. 

Also featured was some version of pop culture things like harry potter (featured above) & the muppets. I heavily suggest a internet stroll through his galleries – it is a great time!

One of my favorite parts about moving is getting to explore the local areas &  finding wonderful pockets of interesting sights. One of my very favorite things I have found in Michigan is the State-Wayne Theater.

Located at  35310 W. Michigan Ave in Wayne Michigan, it features a large mural on the side of the building  called A Road Runs Through It (done by artist: David Fichter and Joshua Winer ) and art deco old timey style theater decor. The theater was built in 1946, supposedly to “right after World War II to shed some light in to a depressed community”… which is a wonderful sentamint – Uplifting Art

There is something special about seeing a movie in a theater with atmosphere. It makes you wanna wear some saddle shoes and go to a sock hop

The inside is just as neat, featuring more murals & impressive skylights. It is very cozy.

This is the theater as we left it – hand in hand – with a date night glow underneath the glittery lights. It was pretty magical.

Our lazy Saturday caused a flurry of chores on Sunday… even while my Fella & I whirled around the house cleaning/clearing/organizing the kitty took the opportunity to take a blissful nap on our furry muppet blanket… jealous.
