When you have more to say to your guests, you may consider an invitation letter

There’s so much information to share with guests when you are having a destination wedding.

So when Arminda and Fernando invited their family and friends to their Mexico wedding, they decided to do it with a letter.

They mixed 2 of our designs: the Mexico map for their RSVP and the Moroccan Tile for the letter design. Using the same ivory background and subdued mustard, champagne and dark coral colors helped keep the design cohesive.

So is an invitation letter right for you?

Maybe. Here are some things to consider:

Destination Wedding

Letters are best when there is a lot of information to convey. That’s typical for a destination wedding where hotel and travel information is important to share.

Small Guest List

A letter has the feeling of intimacy, like you are sharing something with your closest family and friends. A 200 person guest list may not fit that vibe.

Doing Your Own Thing

A letter is also an unconventional choice. So if you are having a very formal, traditional wedding, sending an invitation makes more sense.

In your invitation letter you have room to excite people about your wedding.

With a letter format, you can describe what guests can expect. You can also include:

• events
• location and accommodations information
• any dress code
• and fun stuff, such as why you picked this venue

Even with a letter, you can still give your guests a way to respond.

Feel free to use RSVP wording that works for you

If you decide to go with a letter, you’ll still want to give your guests an easy way to RSVP.

We wanted to share with you this lovely palette for a beach wedding: lavender, aqua and white.

Instead of using 2 types of fonts, the couple used 1, with color and size helping to kept the design fun and interesting. In addition to being a lovely invitation in the couple’s colors, they used the invitation to help them better plan their wedding.

There was room on the RSVP for planning information, like arrival and departure dates

The couple’s planner suggested that they ask guests when they were arriving, their reservation number and room information on the RSVP. This will all help them plan better for their out-of-town guests.

The included enclosure booklet contained a detailed list of events and accommodations and travel information for guests.

Even if you have a wedding website for travel information, there may be some people on your guest list who will be more comfortable with an insert card for that information.

The matching address label on the envelope has the couple’s return address pre-printed.

It’s also possible to have your guest names printed on the invitation address label in the same colors and fonts as the invitation. This can save time and pull your entire invitation look together.
