Painted Photo Bottles #TBCcrafters

Now you know I am a paper craft fanatic, but every once in a while, I DO like to try something different, this week's project was amongst one of the many emails I received every day, but from one of my new favorite blogs Eighteen25! This had to be one of the most easy, beautiful, fun projects I've created that involved paint and not a drop was wasted (I managed to create two projects from one, details to follow next week).

Materials

Acrylic Paint (pictured Americana in Lemon Yellow, Coral Blush, Bahama Blue)

Corked Glass Bottles

Paper Clips

Knife

Photographs

Steps

Pour paint into jars and swirl, shake, spin or whatever to get the entire glass bottle coated.

Turn over to remove excess paint (I kept it upside down overnight to drain the excess and then used the excess to create a second project to be featured next week).

Allow to dry at least 24 hours.

As your waiting for your paint to drain/day, take your knife and make a split into each cork and insert a paper clip.

Once bottles are completely dry, insert photographs (I used standard 4x6 photographs, however, I think they would look much nicer as wallet sized as Eighteen25 recommended, I just used what I had on hand but will change later) into the paper clips and cork the bottles.

Arrange as desired.

We went to my eldest daughter Isis's softball game on Monday, it was sunny and bright but a bit brisk, the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't spot Isis in the dugout, so Isabella sang a song to make the sun go away. " Sun, sun go away, come again another day" and then the sun went away and we began to tremble, I asked her to please make it come back at which point she found the dandelion and tried to wish it back, it didn't work and the sun teased us for the rest of the afternoon!

Yesterday evening my husband and I attended a friend's graduation. It was an accomplishment of after five years, the excitement was simply oozing from him and you could tell that his wife was proud too. As we're sitting there waiting for them to call his name, he's on the edge of his seat, his wife has already made her way to the perfect photo position, and when they called his name, we all just shouted loudly. It was a empowering moment for all to see our friend graduate from Electrical Apprenticeship after all the hurdles has been surpassed. It's really hard to explain without telling you everything how very important this day was for our friend and how happy it made my husband to see him get what he deserved, honor and recognition, but I hope you'll understand a little more when I explain why I'm writing about this...

I spent the better part of 2006-2012 striving to achieve a goal, a goal that would far surpass my own expectations, I gave everything I had to studying, completing assignments, testing and making a 3.5 grade point average throughout my college career, but when we lost our daughter, Adalia, last year in my final semester of school I withdrew. The pain had taken over any mental capability to focus on anything remotely challenging and my goal, my dream just sat.

Seeing our friend so proud, so excited, so happy to have finally accomplish his goal, really put some things into perspective for me. He, like my husband, was faced with many obstacles along the way, and last year, we celebrated my husband's graduation and this year, we celebrated our friend's graduation and next year we'll celebrate my son's graduation from high school and my daughter's from middle school, but when will be celebrate mine?

At one point or another, I abandoned my goal and I kept moving forward encouraging others to achieve theirs. How does that work? Can you explain to me the logic in that? Please don't get me wrong, I am so very proud of our friend and of my husband as well, and I will be proud of my children as they continue to strive toward their dreams, but I realized that I need to pursue my hopes, goals and dreams and for me, up until last September, it was to graduate from college. I cannot allow my past to hinder my future, I have people who look up to me, who come to me for my insight and advice and its time I start listening to my own words and take heed to my own advice...

Because...

I LOOK UP TO ME TOO!

I'm done abandoning me and my hopes, wishes, dreams and goals, it's time to get back on my grind!

4 weeks ago, I embarked on a weight-loss journey, a journey that began through a SheSpeaks Sponsored Program called the Fast Metabolism Diet. (You can read past posts about it here and here.)
A diet program that enticed me as it proclaimed simplicity and guaranteed results, Haylie Pomroy said so... There was something about the challenge that made me want to do it even more so than the fact that it was a sponsored program... It was something that I needed to do and had been wanting to do, but hadn't found the right incentive or discipline to go at it AGAIN alone.

A month of fresh eating, healthy eating and specified eating, that would probably be challenging because my beautiful family has a supreme taste for life and food. I found myself cooking double meals during the first 2 weeks, but during the last 2 weeks, I learned to adapt their meals to what I was able to eat, and made it a lot less challenging. The massive amounts of veggies and fruits had taken over our refrigerator a time or two, while we always had eaten veggies and fruits before, we had never indulged in such a vast variety before, that made the diet even more appealing, trying new things, eating new foods. Plus the book shared lots of recipes, and we even tried a few, but definitely pinpointed a favorite since week one of the diet.

I'm happy to report that within the last 4 weeks, I did not cheat, NOT ONCE, although I did make a few minor infractions of eating something on the wrong day (a fruit or vegetable, as it changes phase to phase in a week of 3 phases). I've come to know what I am allowed to eat and not eat and on what days for the most part. The book became my food bible, I carried it with me everywhere, I referred to it over and over and over again. I really made it my own and the diet began to get easier and easier for me. Granted running around trying to find the right deli meat, jerky and bread was a bit challenging in the beginning. We all know that eating healthy will take a mighty toll on your pocketbook, but none the less we managed!

The kids even gave my food the once or twice over with excitement and enticement, and some meals,, were to die for, really, really delicious! I've also learned to cook differently. Being Hispanic, I've always cooked around my heritage, using Goya Spices and seasonings (which really becomes mundane, redundant and expected), but being that they contain preservatives, I had to try alternatives, which really got me exploring different herbs and seasonings, and really revved up my cooking and made it enjoyable again.

I will admit though my favorite of the three phases is phase 3, because I get to indulge in the healthy fats (I NEED THEM), olive oil and avocado, my two faves! Plus you get to have Almond butter, and raw nuts, which really makes the diet a bit more appetizing and appealing. Sacrifice pays off at the end of the week and I am happy to indulge in every single solitary minute of it! 3 WHOLE DAYS, makes it all worthwhile.

Now I didn't "measure up" before I started The Fast Metabolism Diet, but I did monitor my weight probably more often than I should have and there were highlights, during the 1st week I lost 6lbs!
I was amped and ready week two, which is when I hit my slump. Exercise took the back seat, I know. You're supposed to exercise 3 times in the week, phase 1 requires 1 day of cardio, phase 2 requires 1 day of strength training and phase 3 requires 1 day of relaxing exercises like yoga and my discipline went out the window, though I will admit, I was never inactive during the diet, I just wasn't doing as I was instructed. Weeks 2 and 3 were the slowest, and I was worried that my laziness and lack of discipline would impede upon my progress... And then it happened, I reached my mini goal, with an overall weight-loss of 13.6lbs in 1 month!!!!!! I'm pretty certain that had I followed precisely, I would've hit 20lbs! But I'll take what I can get and I'll admit, that even though I didn't lose 20lbs, I did gain a lot more perspective, confidence and yes, I'm down 1 pant size and headed towards being down 2, so I couldn't be more pleased!!!

Going forward, I am going to continue with the diet as long as possible, I plan on sticking with it until I reach a comfortable weight and try to incorporate the changes, but I've got time to figure all of that out later... Until then, I will keep you posted on my progress from time to time and I promise to keep it real!

Can't Wait Willow Review/Giveaway Ends 5/23

If there is one thing I've been striving to teach my children, its the reason why NO is important sometimes. Our kids live in a world where all they do is "want, want want" and "take, take, take" but they don't often stop to think is there something I want more than the must-have right now? Is there something that I need to have vs. what I want to have? Life is full of opportunities, sometimes like Willow, the big show worth the wait and the no's are important along the way to get there and enjoy the big show. That is a hard concept for children to grasp, especially my 3 year old, she'll want everything on a whim, and though MOST times we'll give in, I still find myself reminding her why, mommy said 'no' to that candy in the mall when she's rewarded with an ice cream cone when we get home for her good behavior and patience. But that is what life is really about, stopping for a minute, thinking about things, and accepting that it is okay to be told 'no' sometimes, because patience pays off sometimes, and sometimes, that wait was really worth it in the end!

My Thoughts

Can't Wait Willow was fun, Willow was adorable, and the concepts displayed, in my opinion were completely factual! Most children today definitely don't consider or think about the value of money, or that what if factor, if I do this, how will it impact this. Its a have my cake and eat it too kind of world, unfortunately, when Willow was faced with the reality of it all, she was very unhappy with the choices she had made that day. This book is an adorable way to not just explain the value in saying 'no', but also the importance of stopping to think before you've made a choice, considering the alternative, and really making smart decisions. I loved how the children can really connect with the book by following the star that follows Willow throughout the book, it enables talking points for parents and children to discuss and consider the choices Willow is making: How do those choices fit into her plans? Is this a smart decision for Willow to make at this time? That is really what makes this book special, the concepts and the lessons displayed within Can't Wait Willow are something that my family can relate to and a fun way to share it with them. Plus, when you visit Shine Bright Kids online, there is an abundance of resources, printables, games and a whole lot of fun for the entire family, which really coincides with the book and the overall message. My Thoughts:

I'll admit that the movie was a tad bit predictable. I knew that there was a message and at first it seemed blatant and in your face. A "city boy" goes to the "country" and finds himself and so much more. I'll be honest though, it's a longing I've always had, to be away from the hustle and bustle, to be living in a close knit, crime free town, a simple yet pleasurable life. But Middletown had a special charm, a charm that I didn't quite anticipate in the film, a charm that made me remember my purpose, my goals, my hope and my faith. Jesus is at your door, all you have to do is open it and ask him in, and the tears flow, pray for me. There's something about bringing others to realize their fullest potential, recognizing that we are not perfect, we are flawed, but that isn't who we have to be, we can be more, achieve more and this movie really opened my eyes, more than I imagined. I thought that at some point Rick would Ring The Bell, but what I didn't know is everything it would take for him to get there, just when you think that's it for the city boy, he surprises you... That was the beauty of this movie, the turns, the surprises, the messages, and the blessings. The music was so uplifting too, it really was a great family friendly movie and what they were doing on Cook Ranch was definitely something to be admired, and it inspires and it reminds me that the choices I've made, well they are right!

Braiding Cord
Ruler
Scissors
Faceted Beads
Scrapbook paper (optional for card)
Cardstock (optional for card)
Adhesive Letters (optional for card)
Colorful pen (optional for card)
Small Organza Bag (optional for gifting)
Tape Adhesive

Instructions

~*~ Measure and cut 12 inches of braiding cord

~*~ String desired amount of faceted beads on to your cord and center

~*~ Tie a knot on each end of the beads as close as possible to the bead itself.

~*~ Tie a knot on each end of the cord

~*~ Cut two, 3.5 inch by 2 inch piece of scrapbook paper and a piece of cardstock and a 2 x 2 inch piece of white paper or cardstock.

~*~ Adhere the scrapbook paper to each side of the cardstock and the white 2x2inch piece of white cardstock to one side.

~*~ Adhere the word "WISH" to the opposite side of the white cardstock side using your letter stickers.

~*~ Final write in this saying using your colored pen or marker "Make a wish... When the string breaks... Your wish will be granted... Wish...

There are 3 Phases, Mon-Tues, Wed-Thurs, & Fri- Sun

Phase 1 is for the carb lovers, fruits, pasta, rice, bread, crackers and pretzels, and includes a cardio
workout.

Phase 2 is more about muscle building, giving you foods that include lean proteins and targeted vegetables and a weight lifting workout.

Phase 3 (which so happens to be my favorite) contained healthy fats along with a combination of the previous 2 phases, however, because you've maintained a low fat and lean diet for 4 days, your body is primed and ready to really enable the "thermogenic three" as Haylie puts in, hormones, heart, and heat, the 3 responsible for really boosting your fat burning capabilities! Workout, sure, you can do yoga or even get a relaxing soothing massage!

Each phase has targeted foods and exercise to really get your metabolism back up and running in working order again and get you on your way to weight loss!

Haylie makes sure that you understand how your body works, explains how and why this diet is effective and gives you the step by step to really ensure the results!

I'm currently sitting in Week 3, I've struggled with planning (which is completely essential during this diet, knowing what you're going to eat when you're supposed to eat it) meals and snacks, and I've struggled with the discipline to exercise consistently. My mother has said that I am suffering from a food depression, but I call it a little lack of variety and of course I am certainly to blame for that, because of poor prior planning.

The other thing is finding organic foods, some of which I've never heard of before which made it even more challenging for me like sprouted grains and nitrate free, but once I found them, all was well, but they were pricey, a common complaint from other dieters including myself, eating healthy is always more expensive, but in the end, it is important and the outcome far outweighs the cost or at least it should.

Water consumption was a killer, but I've adapted to it relatively well, you are required to drink half your body weight, now I already drank a substantial amount of water before, but now that it was required, I felt like I was drinking a lot more! I also had to cut out my tea, I am very particular about my tea and though Haylie provides healtheri alternatives, I passed on the option, so for the past 3 weeks, I've had nothing but water, water and even more water.

This book became my "food bible", I carry it with me everywhere I go, I refer to it for everything and I double check and check again often. Because sometimes my memory is a bit sketchy at best, it is always a good idea to have the book to refer to every now and again, especially when planning meals.

So far I've lost about 8 pounds, and I am content knowing that my pants are a little looser and my face is a little slimmer and I am confident that I will continue with this diet until I reach my ultimate goal!

Thoughts

Now when I agree to do book reviews, I do it because I believe I'd be interested in the book. Faith based books remind me of what is important, who is important in my life. I've been blessed to be able to review children's books because it encourages me to share God with my children and introduce them to faith, not just that there is a God and Jesus, but that there is a way, a reason why we follow him and have that faith in the first place. Through God and Jesus all things are possible, you just have to be patient, trust and believe. So with that being said, I've had this book sitting out on the table. I never TOLD any of my children to read it, but they all came to me at different times and inquired if I had any more of these books, and encouraged me to get more because they were all interested in reading more of the series, more about God and more about faith! AMAZING right? Please remember that my children are 16, 13, 12 & 3! I don't know that my 3 year old would understand the concept right now, but I initially agreed to the review with her in mind and instead (GOD HAS A PLAN), my eldest children read it each at their own time, before I even read it myself! Is that coincidence? No, that's GOD! But I digress! When I read the book, I was chuckling a bit. Consider yourself in the shoes of someone else, I always have heard that and say it often enough and that is exactly what this book does, you are learning the Whale's TALE (ha) and while it is entertaining, it was a beautiful perspective!

At the end of the "Whale's Tale (I like the pun on words)", there is a section called Parent Connection, sort of a way to explore thoughts and concepts contained within the tale.

"If you love me, you will keep my commands" - John 14:15

Read, Think, Do, I love that it gives the parent a way to connect and get the children to really embrace and connect with the story. Pulls it all together.

As my children grow, get older and learn about life and living, I wonder what their future will hold. I encourage them to dream and set goals and do everything to the best of their abilities to obtain and reach them. I have a son who is on the cusp of experiencing adulthood and all that it encompasses, as a parent, you want your children to not necessarily be sheltered, but to be made aware of what the world can be at the same time. I have faith that with every challenge and stage in life, it will only add to their ultimate future, their purpose in life. But I have learned that God has been with me and when I have an open relationship with him, I am positive, spirited and full of faith in things to come. I want the same for my children. This movie reminded me of everything I want for my children, it reminded me that there will be forks in the road, but with a lot of faith and patience, they will prevail as God has planned for them. What an inspiring way to start a new month!

When I was younger, and my mother was home, I'd hear the theme song of these shows play out in the living room. I'd sometimes peer out through the crack of my bedroom door or just cuddle up on the couch with my mom as she'd watch her favorite shows. At the time, I had no idea as to why she loved those shows so much. But I most certainly grew up watching them. They became MY SHOWS as I got older and I fell in love with the characters as I followed their lives on screen. I always ooohed and ahhhed as characters returned from the dead and found myself engrossed in the plots! It was so saddening when the shows went offline. It's like the show became a part of me, I laughed, I cried, and I related to them on a level my husband only shook his head at, but I really enjoyed watching the shows. So much that I'd record them during the day so that when I got home, I could enjoy them at night. My dear friend Valarie and I, would sometimes even get together with a couple of snacks and sit down in her basement and catch up on a few episodes.

I really love beautiful cards. I love sending thoughtful cards and handwritten notes. But what I love more than a beautiful card is a beautifully personalized card! What's better than a beautifully personalized card? One that I create and make myself!

I really love recreating things and repurposing things, so when I found a great deal on set of DRAB Thank you cards at 2nd and Charles and I thought to myself, perfect, for when I start making cards! I could redesign the covers and use them! So I have been doing that since, but I also came across a deal from Shutterfly recently had a get 10 Free cards deal, just pay shipping (ended), and I took advantage of that offer by creating cards with quotes that I've seen around on the web and a few that I wanted to send to friends and family. It was really well worth the cost of shipping! When I received them and began to start filling them out, I became inspired to do something more!

A lot of the household products I use are the same products I've used since childhood. I mean, I only use what I know, sure I've tried to veer off the beaten path and sample something new and improved or different, but 9 times out of 10, I found myself continuing the use of the original. I was a bit apprehensive and not so enthusiastic when Influenster sent me the Colgate Optic White Dental Care Regimen, because, well lets face it, anything other than what I've already been using for my entire life is completely substandard. What's Going On?

My blog has been neglected, not just for reviews, but for original content! I'm a little embarrassed but the desire to sit down in front of a computer screen and "work" has evaded me time and time again, even though in the back of my mind, I KNOW I should be blogging.

That ends today, but honestly, I don't have a whole lot to say! Or do I?

This week is concluding the first week of the Fast Metabolism Diet. A diet that is not only a blog assignment, but the beginning of a true journey for me. Just as I have been avoiding my blog for whatever reason, for the past 3+ years I've avoiding taking my health and body seriously. I've avoiding submitting to the challenging of regaining my body and confidence back and became uncomfortably comfortable with being this way. With my health checked by a physician, this opportunity couldn't have come at a more opportune time.

The Fast Metabolism Diet is all about retraining your body's metabolism to function as it should. I know my metabolism doesn't work because I have a thyroid condition that prevents it from working but I also have a want/need/desire for foods that just don't work for my body, add that to a lack of exercise and healthy living, and bam, you've got me! I have no desire to tempt my diet, although, through the 3 different phases of the week, I encounter a variety of different foods, at set times during the day, I know that my body will be fueled and satisfied. Some parts of this diet become challenging, I could avoid them all together, but I'm going with it. Organic, Sprouted Grain, Nitrate Free are things that I've never considered before, but now, I am aware and am trying them out, but, they are a little on the expensive side. Which leads me to feel like we're all destined to be fat, because it certainly is cheaper to eat the wrong foods.

Favorite Meal of the Week

Turkey Chili - Serves 6

1-1 & 1/2 lbs of Lean Ground Turkey
1/2 Cup diced red onions, or more if desired
2 tablespoons of cilantro
1 heaping tablespoon of chili powder
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
15-ounce can of each white beans, kidney beans, black beans, pinto beans and lentils
4 cups of chopped zucchini
4 cups (32oz) organic bell-pepper tomato soup or plain tomato soup (just be sure it is not milk-based.)
1 heaping teaspoon sea salt

- Brown ground turkey in a skillet and drain.

- Turn slow cooker on high setting, add meat, onion, cilantro, chili powder, garlic and red pepper flakes to the pot, stir, cover and set aside.

- Open and partially drain all five cans of beans (drain partially for a juicier chili), add beans, zucchini, and soup to slow cooker. Stir well. Keep the cooker set on high for 4 to 5 hours, or adjust heat to low and simmer for 6 to 8 hours.

- Stir and taste occasionally, adjusting seasonings as needed. Add the salt just before serving to preserve its nutrients.

I've mentioned it before, but I do love crafting, so much that I've opened up my own Etsy shop called JIJI Crafts. Granted, there aren't a lot of items listed in my shop, but I am very proud of what is listed. I know success is only achieved through hard work and dedication. Something I've been lacking as well lately. I want to achieve my dreams, I want to share in my happiness and joy and I want everyone to know that even though crafting is my passion, it is not just a hobby, at least not in my visions and dreams its not. One day... I will achieve them. So I just need to stay focused. Pray for me!

Washi Tape Bling Phone #TBCcrafters

Alright, so there I was just skimming through the hundreds of emails I get on a daily basis, and I stumbled upon a Mod Podge Rocks email (I'm so happy that I subscribed) and I saw a picture of washi tape making a phone case super spectacular and beautiful. What's the best part? Its temporary and I can change it according to my mood or event! So I tried to create the project without even considering the directions, because that's how I roll! I've seen some spectacular blinged out cell phone cases adorned with bling, pearls and even a rose, I want that! I want a phone that stands out, that turns heads, yes, that inspires!

MATERIALS
Hard Cellphone Case (didn't end up using)
Washi Tape
Bling Stickers
Scissors

This was so fun and so easy and I can change it at any time. Now the materials list a hard cell phone case, the case I intended on using was rubberized, so it didn't quite work, however if it were plastic, hard plastic, it would have worked out great! So I opted to adhere it directly to my cell phone. But don't worry, it won't damage and is totally and completely removable.

STEPS

Choose your Washi Tape, at a diagonal lay the tape pieces across your case/phone as desired, layering and creating a pattern of designs/colors/etc., cut the tape as closely as possible as to avoid overlap of the edges on the phone. I chose to go in two different directions, as the two met one another, there was still a gap, I placed a bling sticker there to "fill" it.

I added bling stickers on the centers or the flowers and in the center of the tape and pearl stickers on the edge of the phone! and that's it! Simple, easy, fun and an inexpensive way of decorating your phone/case.

Decorative Frame #TBCcrafters

There's something about photography and framing. The right frame can brighten any room, or add character to a photograph, or really make a beautiful gift. Once these shaped frames hit the web, I immediately fell madly in love, until I was met with the reality that this level of beauty comes with a large ticket price. Unable to dole out that much funds to the frames, I set out to make one of my own. So I bought a 4 x 6 and an 8 x 10 shaped frame from Michael's. But it didn't end there, because I am sort of an ADD crafter, I purchased additional wood embellishments to adhere to the frames, and then, they sat for about a month. It wasn't until this past Wednesday, that I became inspired to bring one of them to life.

Materials

Colored Theme Scrapbook Paper

Mod podge

Pencil for tracing

x-acto Knife

Scissors

Acrylic Paint (if desired)

Sponge Brush (or paint brushes, I ended up using both)

Tacky Glue (or wood glue)

Embellishments

Paper Plate (for paint/mod podge)

Scrap cardboard (used as a mat for use with the exacto knife)

Instructions

1. One the reverse side of the scrapbook paper (white side), place frame down so it is flat, and remove the backing. Using your pencil trace the outside and inside of the frame. (Something I figured out later...) While you have your frame face down on the cardboard, use your x-acto knife to cut out the center of the frame (this is where your picture would be viewed) and then use your scissors to cut the exterior lines. If you wish, you can trace the backing of the frame and cut that shape out as well.

2. Using your sponge brush or paint brushes and acrylic paint, paint your wooden word/letters/shape your desired color. I ended up using three different shades and many coats to create my desired color, but that's just me! It would also be wise if at this you time painted your frame in your desired color too (I decided that I wanted to do this after, which made it difficult to create perfection), being sure to get the inside and the backside of the frame as well. You won't need a sealant, that will come in late when you use the mod podge.

3. Once your frame and wooden word/letters/shapes are painted in your desired shade and have had time to dry, you'll need to use a clean paint brush and coat the back (blank side) of the cut out scrapbook paper (some people apply a light coat directly on the frame as well) and adhere to your frame and frame back, using your finger tips to smooth out any bumps and bubbles.

4. Here's where I like to have fun, embellishment time! Using the tacky glue, add some glue to the back of the wooden word/letters/shape/s and firmly press onto your frame in your desired location. I felt like it looked a little plain so I opted to add a few self adhesive pearl stickers to each point in my frame.

That's it, wait for everything to dry and cure for at least 24 hours before putting a picture into your frame, otherwise, it'll get stuck!

Baltimore Family Adventure

I'll be honest, our weekends don't generally consist of anything "exciting and eventful", because of my husband's work schedule, we generally just stay in and bask in the lazy relaxing feeling of our home. But this weekend was different, this weekend ended so beautifully, the entire family headed out for a fun filled day in Baltimore.

Our destination specifically Baltimore Aquarium. Our middle daughter wanted to see the dolphins. Coincidentally, the dolphins were doing a show right as we arrived. So we peeked through the windows (top deck was filled to the brim, so we were told) and my daughter tried to push her way through to get a good view of them. As were peeking through our little one says, she's ready to see the Jellyfish. For some reason, jellyfish are her absolute favorite! I've become fascinated with them myself, they're really rather beautiful, as are all of the different characters of the sea. I love just watching them move and who knew that they were so many different kinds of jellyfish?

After taking the time to watch them move and learning a bit about how they survive, yes, my eldest daughter loves learning all of the facts and was sure to fill us in on their survival techniques, we moved on... Turtles, sting rays, Tropical Forest and sharks oh my!

The little rain forest was pretty humid, this time we didn't get to see the sloth that lives there, but the kids found it highly fun and entertaining to just be in it.

After checking out a couple of other sights, our trip to the aquarium ended, but the fun didn't! We went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and a good time! My husband and I ordered burgers (we're so exciting right?) and the kids ordered both beef and chicken fajitas, BBQ chicken and salmon and a hot dog (can you guess who that was?), come to think of it, they were much more adventurous than my husband and I. We also ordered a starter sampler, come to find out, our littlest one likes onion rings? Who knew?

After dinner, we hit a candy store and grabbed some treats and headed home, where we all gathered around and watched "Here Comes The Boom". Didn't provide as many laughs as I'd anticipated, but it was a good movie overall!

What a great way to end the week and get started on a new one! Today is my husband's birthday, everyone wish him a fabulous birthday, we're going to be whipping up some delicious goodies for his mini celebration!

The lift we've built together gets more amazing with each moment we are together, I am so thankful to have you in my life. Happy Birthday my love! May this year bring you as much happiness and blessings as the last!

My journey to "Becoming a Giant"...

As I was scrolling through Facebook this morning, I came across this message that Jada Pinkett Smith entitled "A letter to a friend".

"Blended families are NEVER easy, but here's why I don't have a lot of sympathy for your situation because... we CHOOSE them. When I married Will, I knew Trey was part of the package...Period! If I didn't want that...I needed to marry someone else. Then I learned if I am going to love Trey...I had to learn to love the most important person in the world to him...his mother. And the two of us may not have always LIKED each other... but we have learned to LOVE each other.

I can't support any actions that keep a man from his children of a previous marriage. These are the situations that separate the women from the girls. Your behavior is that of an insecure child who needs to recognize her own weaknesses that MUST be strengthened to take on the task at hand. We can't say we love our man and then come in between him and his children. THAT'S selfishness...NOT love. WOMAN UP... I've been there...I know. My blended family made me a giant… Taught me so much about love, commitment and it has been the biggest ego death to date. It's time you let your blended family make you the giant you truly are.

From the moment I began reading Jada's message, I felt something stirring inside of me. This message was something I was supposed to read, but more like a reinforcement of something I'd been trying to accomplish for years, without success, I continued to long for it, not just for me, but for my children. I have four children, you hear me say that often enough. Yet, I've never felt it necessary to get into the semantics of biological and step-children, because my children are just that, my children. However, they are not all my biological children, I didn't carry them in my womb for 9 months, I didn't gain the baby weight, I didn't battle morning sickness, and I most certainly didn't push them out into the world. But through time, I have come to know and love them as though I did.

When I met my now husband, we were in our early twenties, we didn't have everything together and we most certainly didn't know everything, so we enjoyed one another as much as we could and THAT part of our lives was separate, until it wasn't. Eventually those lives combined and there was no turning back, because to truly love one another, we had to love one another's children. What I didn't realize was that I'd be met with resistance for the greater part of our relationship, I couldn't understand what it was, what I had done, what was wrong with me that I couldn't be met with common courtesy and respect. Certainly, I knew, that HIS children, weren't my children, a fact I was reminded of, over and over and over again, but yet and still, I was there every step of the way, tending to them, caring for them, encouraging them, comforting them, strengthening them, and yes, loving them. They were a part of my life and they became a part of me, and that's when I realized, I wanted to be their mother.

Shocker, yes, they already HAVE a mother, they call her mom/mommy, but I was their mother too. This is when I was met with the resistance I mentioned, whenever I showed that I was not only willing, but capable of being their mother, capable of loving HIS children, the forces were against me. I'd walked into a world, a position, a role, in which I felt that if others had it their way, would have never been filled. Over the course of years, I'd be taken on an highly emotional roller coaster, a ultra volatile eruptive volcano, and I'd be tested by temptation to explode and erupt in the same volatile manner, and at each turn, I'd fail. I was told that if I was going to "play the role, to play the role all the way". Because in the eyes of some, years in, I still wasn't quite doing or being enough.

Turning point, the on/off weekend was put to a screeching halt and then we got married, and the "role that I was playing", became a permanent position. That is when I stood up and made my existence known with assertion. Even though I wasn't met with open arms in the slightest, I had achieved something even greater. Confidence in my position. What was my position? I was and always will be their mother. It is entirely OK, to have more than one mother, your biological mother and your step-mother, isn't it? I set out to be everything BUT the evil step-mother and the b*%$& who stood in the way of manipulation, drama and that volcanic volatile eruption. Negativity was continued to be allowed to spew into our lives, our home, and our family, until, it wasn't.

I've prayed that things would change, we've opened our home, our hearts, our lives into creating a better atmosphere, a better life for our children, OUR children, only to be continuously met with resistance. All of the bickering, arguing, manipulation, torment, all of that would cease, all of that would become only one sided and we, my husband and I, would show strength, respect, and courtesy and when met with resistance, we'd shut it down, support one another and defend our children.

(Listen up...This is where I become a giant!)

It's been years since we took our stance, and sadly, but happily, it's been only a few short weeks since our dreams, my prayers, were answered. For sake of a long story, a truce was called, our stance has been made concrete and our overall goals have been defined. The battle began in 2003 and in 2013, we've signed a peace treaty! For the betterment of ourselves and our relationships, but most importantly OUR CHILDREN. As my eyes well up with tears, and my heart is full of happiness and joy, I know that there will be setbacks and I know that my children will still worry, question and wonder "is this okay?". However, I want them to know in their hearts that I'm not leaving them, I am and always will be, their mother too! With our new found peace, it is my hope that we may finally grow into the blended family for which I've prayed. One of acceptance, appreciation, courtesy, consideration, respect and yes, most importantly love and all that it encompasses.

Warmer weather inspires...

Warmer weather is just knocking at our patio gate, begging us to clean up the backyard so that we can entertain family and friends or just ourselves. I love grilled foods, I love entertaining and have some great ideas stirring for decorating! I'd love to try something different this year, simple and fun. If I can pull it off, my kids will be so excited with the results. Yes, I've been planning a year of change all together!

My thoughts

Well, if I didn't think this was a neat and fun product, I definitely wouldn't have included it in my picnic/bbq ideas post that's for sure. But when partying outside, I think it is a great idea to keep drinks "Labeled" and it is great that there is the added insulated option! A party take away for your guest. The only downside I noticed about the Slap Koozie , was that the design image cracked almost instantly, that was a little bothersome, but you can't really expect it to stay in tact forever I suppose. But I loved the fun and innovative way to add a little something extra!

One of my main goals this year was to get Isabella ready for preschool. I feel like ever since we took her out of daycare my life changed in a different direction and the focus on learning took the back seat. Who me? Super mom? Never! But yes, it did. So recently, I decided to put an end to that. I've gotten workbooks, created games, flashcards, videos and it has over run my workspace, my desk space, my bedroom and it's just too much! But even with that in mind, I still love watching Isabella in awe of learning, excited to try new things, things that in my mind, I didn't even think she was ready for, so even considering online learning I was apprehensive. But I thought what the heck, why not? She gets herself on the computer and pulls up the touch paint app on our desktop, she controls her own iPod, controls the television and the dvd player (yes, at 3) and who am I to say that she's not ready for online learning? It was a big fun game for her and I loved every minute of it.

Luminous with Pond's (Review)

I haven't felt radiant in quite some time, not matter my attempts, I step out into the world with my head held... Well low. I've often struggled with my complexion, which is humorous because when I was younger, I was constantly being complimented on my beautiful flawless complexion and I truly believe that at the time I took it for granted. Present day finds me struggling to find the right solution, formula, collection, line to satisfy the many ailments of my skin, It's dry, sensitive, can't handle too much moisture, can't do without moisture, and my nose is always oily! Go figure, it's a combination skin that is SO HARD to please. Top that off with dark circles and newly noticed fine lines and wrinkles and I am destined to have a less than luminous face/appearance.

When you step out into the world, you're making impressions, people judge book's by their covers everyday, and well if I don't look radiant, I don't feel radiant and if I don't feel radiant, then I am not luminous and not making a great first impression. I tend to lean towards products that are "safe" and mask my flaws vice work on them.

Just last week, I asked my Facebook friends and fans for their skincare advice for my special skin, my "final" attempt to "shine bright like a diamond". I didn't get very many tips and then I received the opportunity to try the Pond's Luminous Line!

A Journey Begins...

I'm sure there are times when your reading posts on Immutable Ramblings and you stop and think to yourself this woman is like a broken record, but, I think it is important to remind myself and others about certain things. Like Follow your Dreams, because in 2013 that is exactly what I decided to do. For the first time in my entire adult life, I KNOW what I want to do and be when I grow up and it is the greatest feeling in the world. I recently received a copy of Blue Ocean Bob for review. Now I knew it was an inspirational book, but I didn't realize how perfectly it fit into my focus this year.
