Hello Jennifer, I'd like to use a query string value rather than parameter as we have enabled a tracking code named "source=" which includes a code value to identify paid search. source=xxx/xxx/xxx/sea/xxx. "sea" identifies paid search. If I enter "sea" into the query string value of the Paid Search Detection in Site Catalyst 15 will that work as expected?

Hi Jennifer and thanks for your post. Have a question regarding the Direct channel. Under the 'Direct' channel, I presume you shouldn't see any referring domains. Is this correct? From my end, I see internal referring domains which I found strange. Here are my settings for Direct: is first page of visit AND referrer does not exist, ticked 'ignore hits matching internal URL filters'. Direct is positioned before Internal channel. Thank you.

Thanks, Matt, for the comment. I'm happy to see another much more productive type of data squirrel out there- sorry if I implicated you by name as a data hoarder, that was not my intent.
Not guilty of being a data squirrel in the sense used here: quite the contrary as we work with, and certainly encourage analysis. Still an interesting view on people hoarding data which in my industry, market research, would be completely counterproductive. There's a vast quantity of data being gathered and I can guarantee you that it's all used in many ways to create reports duly delivered to eagerly listening clients. Having said that (and now thinking of it), what those end clients do with the insights when presented with them, is a different story all together.

Sorry for the slow reply, I wanted to finish up a blog post that lightly touched on this (http://www.keystonesolutions.com/community/2011/09/campaign-tracking-tips-and-tricks-for-omniture-sitecatalyst/).The marketing channel reports will show only first and last, but nothing in between- so in that situation, Paid Search would get First Touch credit, Email would get Last Touch credit, and Natural Search wouldn't appear for the Order. For the whole picture, you have a few options: you can copy your tracking code to a new eVar with Linear Allocation, but that will only show within one Visit Session, and won't incorporate your Marketing Channel rules. You can use the Cross-Visit Participation plugin, which is probably the best option, but again, you can't pull in the Marketing Channel. Check out that recent blog post at Keystone that I linked to, it has a few suggestions that won't solve this issue, but will at least help with some of the work-arounds.

Hi! thanks for an interesting blog post. I have a question about last touch, is it just one channel who can get the last touch on a order? For example, if I have been in contact with Paid search->Natural Search->Email. Paid search got first touch on the order i the report, but the last touch, is it belong to both Natural Search and Email or just Email?
