We have been repeatedly assured by politicians and by media talking heads that we live in a society in which 40 Neanderthals in the senate are in a position to frustrate the will of 300,000,000 Americans. They keep intoning that sixty senators are needed to pass anything, even though there are one hundred members of the Senate.

Is this what we laughingly call democracy? If it is so, should this continue to be allowed? If it is true and if Clauswitz was right, how can the politicians collect taxes? How will their forty reactionaries prevail over the rest of us?

Why don’t you lay this one on them and insist that they answer and not try to sidestep?

Miller’s resolution never made it out of committee; it has been noted that it is unlikely for Senators elected by the popular vote to back a change to the method that worked for them.
