This is a bunch of funky music. The music is based on Herbie Mann hits, except for a beautiful Irish hymn called "Be Thou My Vision".

Today's concert for the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival is Wyndfall -- celtic trio! Vocals & guitar work by Chris Laughery, flute fantasies by Tom Reese, and cello anchor by Laurie Haines Reese ... we'd love to see you there! You can get t-shirts, fans, CD's, buttons --- lots of STUFF! The concert is from noon to 1 pm, in Steinman Park, on King St next to the Pressroom Restaurant. If it rains, we'll be inside the Pressroom! Bring your lunch along from the Central Market or order from the Pressroom.

In the evening, Steinman Park will feature the jazz piano stylings of Steve Rudolph, with a trio. They play from 7 to 10 pm. (Indoors at the Pressroom if it rains).

I have friends & family that waited to buy Christmas gifts just in case the Mayan Calendar ending coincided with the actual end of the world as we know it... do you know people like that? I wonder what they will do now?

We have made lots of plans for the New Year -- now the days will be getting longer again, it's time to start bringing forth new ideas & projects!

First is our new CD -- "Comin' Home Baby" inspired by music of the Herbie Mann. Created by TRP (The Reese Project), which is Tom Reese (flute, alto flute, pennywhistle), Kirk Reese (piano & keyboards), Laurie Haines Reese (cello & electric cello) & Glenn Ferracone (drums & percussion). Whew! It's a kicker! The music covers a wide range of styles from hip hop to blues to a ballad to a soulful hymn. We can't wait for you to start hearing it -- but it's too soon! We just recorded this week, now we have to mix (in January), then get the copies, etc. Whew! A new CD is indeed a great long-term project!

This will be our first release on VectorDics Records -- they have been so helpful already! It feels like home because so many of our friends & fellow artists are with this label.

We will also be creating lots of new silent film scores this year. The list is growing & growing, thanks to our friends at LCTV Channel 66 who faithfully air them on Comcast Cable TV! And thanks to our live performance locations, which is growing also. The Goggleworks continues to be our mainstay, with performances on the 2nd Sunday of each month. We will continue to play at the Allen Theater, Laserdome, Bube's Brewery, Ned Smith Center, The Village at Sprenkle Drive -- plus the Suffolk Theater in NYC 3/28/13 with special guest Kirk Reese (piano). The Susquehanna Trio (flute/pennywhistle, violin/piano & cello), will be performing music of Christmas & the holidays from the 1600's to the present at the Stahr Center in Lancaster PA. The event will chronicle events relative to the history of Lancaster, for example, "Sheep May Safely Graze" by JS Bach was being composed at the same time that the first road in the country was paved, Route 30. During this time, Lancaster was known as Hickory Town. From the earliest examples of Christmas & holiday music, such as “What Child is This” & the “Coventry Carol,” Susquehanna takes you on a 90 minute journey through the Christmas Season. Wow! June 2012 is here already. Probably half over before you can blink...

It's been a busy season for us. We are still playing at the Watering Trough every Wednesday night, so if you haven't had a chance yet to come out for dinner & the music -- come on down! Music is 6 to 9, and if you're in the mood, karaoke starts at 9 pm in the bar next door to the restaurant where we play! We are having guests this week & next. Tonight is Mark, singer/songwriter. Next week is Chaz DePaolo, blues guitar with his trio. A very special event indeed! June 20th will be Tom & I, as MuZette (folk fusion). The 27th will be the Haines Sisters playing classical & folk music (me on cello & my sister, Tish, playing violin). Food specials include a dozen wings for $4.25, plus great steak dinners at $9.95.

The silent film project is going really well! Tom & I (sometimes with Kirk Reese, pianist & my brother-in-law), perform our original musical score live, while viewing the film with the audience. You can see more about that on our website, along with a video explanation.

Each month, we have been showing a different film on our local Cable tv channel, LCTV 66. This month is Oliver Twist, followed closely (sometime in July!) with our recorded score to Buster Keaton's "College."A big thank-you goes out to our friends at LCTV & those of you who are viewing it!

Two films this week:

6/10/12 -- "College" -- a Buster Keaton belly-laugher -- is showing at the Goggleworks in Reading, PA this Sunday, June 10th, at 12:30 pm. $6 admission.

6/16/12 -- "The General" -- Buster Keaton's comedy masterpiece using trains -- is showing June 16th at 10 am at the Ware Center in Lancaster, PA as part of the "Ware Center Jazz Festival 2012". You can see more info here: http://www.millersville.edu/ware-center/film/index.php#june16.

Tom & I are going to take our silent film project out west this fall; stay tuned for locations. So far we are booked in and around Kansas City, KS & the Mohavi Desert in Arizona, & LA in September.

The Watering Trough hosts MuZette (Tom & Laurie Reese) every Wednesday. Music from 6 to 9 pm. Tom & Laurie, husband & wife team, play flute & cello in a variety of styles from folk, to jazz, classical & rock. Guests sometimes join them -- or play when Tom & Laurie can't be there...

This Wednesday, December 6th, 2011, our special guest is Chris Laughery. Chris has a beautiful voice & sings classic tunes by Jethro Tull, Phish, Grateful Dead, as well as songs of Ireland, Scotland & America. He plays a very unique guitar -- ask him about it! He will be appearing solo this evening. Music from 6 to 9 pm.

The Watering Trough is located at 905 W. Main St, Mount Joy, PA 17552. Or on Facebook. Their specials Wednesdays are wings ($3.95 a dozen) and steaks.

MOON DANCER WINERY 2010 FOLK FESTIVAL -- Labor Day Week-end! Donegal Ridge (formerly Wyndfall) plays from 7 to 9 pm on Saturday night -- full line-up at the Moon Dancer Website: http://www.moondancerwinery.com. $20 paid once gets you in both days! Make a week-end of it!

CHADDSFORD WINERY JAZZ FESTIVAL -- also Labor Day Week-end! TRP plays on Monday, from 12:30 to approx. 2 pm.

CLAUDE BOLLING SUITES FOR FLUTE, CELLO & JAZZ PIANO TRIO. Line-up: Tom Reese (flute), Beth Trez (piano), Laurie Haines Reese (cello), Keith Mohler (bass) & Dave Young (drums). We have had our noses to the grind-stone preparing the Claude Bolling Suites. We're doing two Suites: for Flute & Jazz Piano Trio, and for Cello & Jazz Piano Trio. These concerts start on October 24th at the Church of the Apostles in Lancaster, PA -- more are being added to the schedule (& will show up on our on-line calendar ... soon...)!

DONEGAL RIDGE (our celtic band, formerly called Wyndfall) is busy this month playing two "1/2 - way to St. Patty's" shows. 9/10 at the Black Gryphon in Elizabethtown & 9/17 at Geezer's in Jacobus, PA. Spring came early this year; it's just as well. Winter was getting a little ... well, cold... you know. The earth is happier when spring comes early. Tons of projects to finish up this spring... Tom & Kirk Reese have recorded a new CD called The Reese Brothers: Connected. It's a mix of all kinds of stuff, not only jazz, but more. Tunes include "Keep Your Eye on the Prize," Theme from Gunsmoke, Blackberry Winter, and the Death Scene from the Untouchables. Quite a variety! Artwork is nearly finished; it will be out on the radio soon. We'll keep you posted...
Other projects include me doing a concert of Beethoven cello Sonatas with Simon Andrews, pianist. That'll be part of the Lancaster Summer Arts Festival, in Lancaster, PA.
Another project is our Music & Art Craft Kits -- 1) a Make-at-Home ocarina kit, called "From Earth to Song." You can find it at www.MyOcarina.com. Make your own wind instrument, decorate it, and learn to play it! A deluxe Music Book is included. 2) MyOcarina Decorating kit -- this one comes with it's own hand-made instrument that you decorate & learn to play!
We started to plant an orchard today ... 2 apple trees, next year (if these guys make it!) will be pears, plums, cherries, and maybe peaches. Yum! We're into edible, organic landscaping. I hope our neighbors don't mind!
The cats are happiest of all... Miles, our new Ragdoll (that's the best picture of him we can get -- all I usually get is the tip of his tail as he runs off!), gets to go outside, something the other two cats had never dreamed of. We live on a busy street, so they can only go out in the back of the house -- it's ok with them! Plenty to smell & roll around in back there!
Tom & I are doing a series of concert this fall featuring the Claude Bolling Suites for Flute (#1) & Cello with Jazz Piano Trio. They are two separate suites; we're doing a whole concert of Bolling's music! Our piano trio is Beth Trez (piano), Keith Mohler (bass) & Dave Young (drums). We are very excited about this project!

Share in this unique celebration of the cycles of life & death -- & hear a WORLD PREMIERE performance!

The 1st half of the concert will feature music by The Reese Project, jazz quartet. The 2nd half will present the WORLD PREMIERE PERFORMANCE of "Hearts of Mercy," a new composition for Voice & Chamber Orchestra. Music & lyrics by Tom Reese. "Hearts of Mercy" is a dedication to the caring given by workers at Hospice of Lancaster County. Robin Work will be the featured vocalist. The Susquehanna Ensemble will also present "Just Before Dawn," a work for flute, violin & cello by Tom Reese. This piece was written after the passing of a dear friend last year. Other pieces include "Autumn Leaves," "Little Sunflower," "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and more.

In addition to Robin Work, vocalist, the performers include Tom Reese (flute), Rick Ney (violin), Tish Brown (viola), Laurie Haines Reese (cello), Kristen Froelich Albert (French horn) & Emery DeWitt (oboe). Singer/Songwriter Bobbi Carmitchell will present an original song called "Sunday Afternoon." Guitarist Bobby Brewer & drummer Aaron Walker join Tom & Laurie Reese in The Reese Project.

A generous portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hospice of Lancaster County.

We just finished recording our new CD, "Eastern Standard Time," at Showplace Studios in NJ. The CD features half jazz standards & half originals. Excellent professionals there, very efficient and professional. We should have produce by mid-January of 2009. Stay tuned!
