I was just reminded that St Patricks Day is upon us which in the past has ruffled a few feathers on the golf course. It usually does nothing to improve golf swing but in some eyes it does improve presentation…

Now, we must be mindful of other golfers on the golf course and to leave the green Irish beverage until the 19th but we can still be dressed for the occasion…can’t we? green socks? green pants?…

I’m not saying to become a leprechaun but I’ve seen some great St Patricks Day Hat that look…well…like you could strut your stuff down the middle of the 18th fairway after your sensational drive or landing your long iron to within 10 feet and turning everyone else green with envy!

So…is it a crime to wear green on the green? to put on a St Patricks Day Hat on this auspicious day?

Are you curious about golf club cones and how they might help your game? So many myths exist about this topic; this is the truth. Can you tell me about the term golf club clone? Do you know that there are special Kids Golf Club Sets clones available as well? The clone is legitimate contrary to your first reaction to such a golf club. Additionally, this is not the same as a cheap knockoff club produced in some warehouses. A club clone, on the contrary, is designed to look similar and has similar features to many top-brand clubs on the market.

Golf club clones are made and designed by trustworthy businesses that offer their own brand. Additionally, there are no infringements on any trademarks or patents. These clubs are made with the same quality and features as the top brand names with the major difference that they can be bought at a fraction of the price.

You may wonder why they are so inexpensive. Several items need to be considered. First, let us state the obvious. If you purchase a top brand name club, you are buying exactly that, the name. The highest brands are certain that the price they ask for are what their customers will pay because they have acquired their customer’s respect about their products. One other consideration is the material. Most people are aware that China is the world leader in resource capital. When making the golf club clones they use similar materials to the top brand golf clubs which are made in China. Many of the top manufacturers of golf equipment have large expenses for running their business that results in the customer paying a higher price for their products. Not like China, labor is a lot more inexpensive, materials are simply sourced and even business and exportation comes inexpensive.

Look around on the web for the clubs you want. There’s a plethora of sites offering them at really reasonable costs. The best way to determine whether or not the products are from a company with a good reputation, as well as, a track record for producing quality merchandise, it is best to look at the seller’s feedback. The opinions and ratings of other purchasers can also be viewed. Without breaking the bank it is a good idea to get the golf club clones.

Just thought I’d share a bit of Newcastle, Australia off the golf course.
By now you will have heard (or have you?) about the change in the rules governing the grooves in golf clubs that comes into effect on 1st January 2010. Do you know how these rules will affect you and your golf equipment?

The R & A and USGA carried out extensive research on grooves based on what was happening on tour. The new V groove configuration was resulting in golfers generating the same amount of spin from the rough as they were from the fairway! This was effectively diminishing the penalty of being in the rough.

In order to reward straight shots and make life more difficult if you missed a fairway or green and had to play from the rough the R & A and USGA are now going to limit groove volume and edge sharpness on all clubs excepting drivers and putters with lofts greater than or equal to 25 deg. As a general rule this translates to applying to your 5 iron to wedges. All the existing limitations on grooves and face texture will remain.

The new rules apply to new models of clubs made on or after 1st January 2010. Existing models as of that date will still be allowed to be manufactured until end 2010.

Now you would be forgiven in asking, “Won’t pro’s just stick to the models made before January 1st 2010? Well they can try but it’s not going to work. The R & A and USGA clearly thought of that and have countered it by making it a “Condition of Competition” that pro’s use clubs manufactured according to the new rules.

So what does this all mean for you? are you going to have to fork out for a new set of clubs or face banning from the club competitions? Fortunately you don’t have anything to worry about unless that is you are playing golf at the top amateur or professional level.

Any clubs existing on December 31st 2009 and made up until December 31st 2010 that meet the current requirements will still be legal until at least 2024. There is a review of this by the two bodies planned for 2020 when they will decide whether to extend the date even further than 2024.

So you can relax and continue to fondle your favourite crocodile teeth clubs with pride while understanding that playing great golf is more to do with the mind than the equipment, that is presuming you have half decent equipment to start with.

While many people think that golf isn’t really golf unless you walk the course, the actuality is that some people just can’t do that. This is where the golf cart comes in handy. I personally walk, but many a friend won’t play golf without the advantage of a golf cart and with the new golf carts that are out today, they really can make golf a little more delightful.

Besides not having to haul your golf bag around with you, the golf cart can also helps you to avoid fatigue and carries the cooler of snacks, soda, or lager, if that’s what you like to do when your out on the course golfing. You may get a good rest on a warm day when you use a golf cart to navigate the course.

There are 3 large golf cart manufacturers that rule the golf cart market : Yamaha, EZ Go., and Club Car.

Some golf carts are powered with little gas engines while others are electrically powered. The electric golf carts were the 1st heavily produced electrical automobiles for private consumer use. Modern golf carts might have car-like styling despite being no bigger than a normal golf cart. Accessories such as audio entertainment systems, custom wheels, and custom body panels in a variety of colours are being offered as selections for the personal golf cart.

Golf carts are not just used on the golf courses. Some small communities or neighborhoods will use a golf cart because of their lack of pollutants, absence of noise, and safety for pedestrians and other autos are beneficial. While purpose-built for general transportation, these are called Neighborhood electric Vehicles and they have diverse operating limitations like top speed and heavy regulation on street use. They do resemble normal golf carts in style, but some are enclosed to accommodate for use in every kind of weather.

There’s a big market for O.E.M parts on golfing carts. Each major producing company has their own line of O.E.M parts to enhance off-road capabilities. Because golf carts can have a long life, people frequently buy used golf carts making these O.E.M parts really valuable to people who have a need to fix broken parts of their golf cart.

Golf carts are considered by many golfers to be an essential part of their golf game. Golf carts can really help make the game more delightful, even if it’s my golfing partner carting my refreshments!

You may be considering a golf travel package and hoping to reserve some time at one of the many great golf destinations in the U.S. or possibly an international location. It is best to compare prices of the various packages online first.

If you own a small or large company you may be considering a corporate golf travel package for you and your top employees.

A corporate golf travel package could include some of the following:

Accommodations – eight nights at quality hotels with twin or double occupancy

Golf – Greens fees and guaranteed tee times for 7 rounds

Rental Car – Full sized rental van with unlimited mileage from Hertz

Extra Services – Vouchers for accommodations and golf, maps, directions to various golf courses in the area.

Some of these corporate packages can be priced as low as 00 per person to as little as 0. The golf travel package prices would vary according to the number of individuals (the more the lower the per-person cost), number of nights, meals, location and probably would not include your airfare.

There are literally hundreds of quality, highly recommended, memorable golf travel packages offered that can be customized for your company’s particular needs. Anywhere there’s golf a golf travel package can be arranged.

Some destinations to consider for your golf travel package could be international places such as England, France, Italy, Greece, South America, Mexico and many more. The United States boasts of many highly rated courses with beautiful resort accommodations. These resorts are sometimes all inclusive and will include gourmet meals, use of the spa and gym, and of course greens fees and tee times.

Puerta Vallarta boasts the Golden Crown Paradise which would be a great golf travel package for adults. It is an all inclusive resort & spa caters to the adult traveler who is looking to enjoy the most memorable golf outing and successful corporate conference. Your corporate employees could also sit back and relax. This medium-sized resort offer spacious accommodations, a la carte dining, friendly service a vast selection of activities, sports and entertainment. The professionally trained staff create the perfect scenario for an unforgettable getaway. Puerto Vallarta combines modern-day city flavors with colonial Mexican village charm and, of course, great golf

Reserve a golf travel package to England and play on one of England’s three best known British Open Courses such as the Royal Liverpool, Royal Lytham & St. Annes. You could arrange to stay in Southport, one of England’s traditional resort towns with easy access to all the courses. For traveling around the area you could reserve a car with a driver or drive your own rental van.

You may want to stay in the U.S. and plan your golf travel package around one of the golf championships such as the Masters Tournament at Augusta, or the U.S. Open and watching the pros in action.

You could save a little money by planning your golf travel package during the off season. As is true with anything else, tt is always important to plan ahead to insure your golf travel package will be the best planned and most enjoyable trip you have ever taken.

One of my golfing partners had a terrible time trying to read the greens, between the 4 of us he was the only one who could not for the life of him get the ball to break up the hill! He just kept on reading them wrong and we knew he needed some good putting tips, things that he already knew, but who was going to tell him?.

Now, he isn’t totally blind, not before the 19th anyway! but the subtle breaks he couldn’t see. He is not a golfer to roam the green getting down on his haunches to analyze it but generally he does get it right on most days, he is off 16 so he shouldn’t be that bad.

So just to put that into perspective, putting averages 43% of all shots on the golf course. That’s almost half your game with the putting stick in your hand so some attention must be taken if it’s not going to plan.

Anyway, what most of us do is to get an overview of the break as we walk up to the ball on the green, even if it means walking the long way around just to get the feel. Other putting tips, I have been known to stand on my line and close my eyes to try and get my other senses involved, feeling what my body is doing to maintain my sense of balance, some people laugh but just try it on the gentlest of slopes, it may surprise you!

You can get down on the ground if you really need to, get the worm eye’s view or if the green is elevated even better, just get behind it.

I’ve known some players to use their imagination by visualising a bucket of water filling up the hole and letting it overflow, following where the water flows giving them the putting line that way

If I’m last to putt I’ll try to go to school on my golfing partners putts, without getting in their line of sight until they have putted, can’t give up an opportunity like that!

Anyway, we all have some bad days whether it’s on the greens or off the tees. All we need to do is take a step back with our minds-eye and get it back to basics.

So on the bad putting days just remember to:

Go to school by watching the other players putts.

Visualize spilling a bucket of water into the hole and watching the water spill over the green.

Closing your eyes while standing on the green to get the feel of your balance.

Do what you need to do to get the feel of the green without disturbing your playing partners.

So getting the golf ball into the hole is not just about the grip & swing but also the feel & reading the golf greens to give you every chance. But it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming process. Get into a routine on the course and the process will become second nature.

Golf Tips N0. 1: GET OUT OF THE SNOW!

Here I am, not yet summer and trying to withstand 18 holes in +105 decrees and my mate up around Chicago is
starting to whinge about the cold. Sure the 105 decree days are not that common for us and they are still playable when you’ve got a golf cart but my mate in Chicago doesn’t have much say when the snow hits and pretty much shuts the golf industry down for the winter.

Well he can’t just sit by the fireplace and loose all that you had build from the golf tips he acquired during the summer months. Fine tuning the golf swing, getting the mind in the right place to get those 10 footers in the hole, working on the fitness to keep the game going all 18 holes.

He has coaxed his partner in crime (she has the better golf swing) to look where the suns still shines and where the fairways are still green. Where there are people with their sanity still intact, out playing golf.

They have found some great golf resorts that provide more than a golf player could ask for in winter. Generally they cater all people looking for a break not just golf enthusiasts.

Due to its nature, golf resorts literally have rooms and villas situated in a secured place where is no need to leave for anything other than to go site seeing or to go home. The rooms and villas have all the services usually seen in a typical resort: large air-conditioned rooms, luxurious bathrooms, cable televisions, and internet connections.

Most of these golf resorts have magnificent views coupled with mild and healing climate. Landscapes and ornamentation’s are carefully drawn in the most luxurious way. There are beautiful pools and ponds that captivate visitors.

However, unlike other types of resorts, a golf resort caters to the specific needs to the golfer or a golf aficionado. These golf resorts are specially made for people who want to relax, have fun, and at the same time enjoy playing golf.

Most golf resorts have a golf professional on hand to offer golf tips that will help the golfer improve their playing skills such as golf swing and putting. This is a great service, being away from your everyday environment and in a more relaxed state, you can easily obtain more insight into your own game of golf.

Some golf resorts offer a variety of golf instruction programs for the best golf tips golfers from all skill levels expect. Golf resorts may offer individual instruction, group clinics, corporate clinics, junior clinic or multi day golf instruction packages.

In the United States, the most well known golf resorts are situated in Championship Golf Resort in Central Florida where the climate and views are a perfect concoction so as to make golf resorts very entertaining.

Other golf resorts are Avila Beach Golf Resort in California, Eagle Crest Resort in Central Oregon and Championship Golf Resort in Central Florida.

The Eagle Crest Resort boasts of its golf courses carved out of an ancient juniper forest huddled at the foot of the majestic Cascades. Eagles Crest Golf Resort is also known for its meticulous grounds keeping, fast true greens and beautiful summer wildflower displays. And because of their lower elevation, Eagle Crest Golf Resort have the longest quality golf season in Central Oregon making them adept in keeping one of their championship courses open all year round.

The Avila Beach Golf Resort, on the other hand, has lavishly landscaped greens. The Avila Beach Golf Resort driving range has great teeing areas and is open from dusk till dawn. They also offer various golf instruction programs.

The Championship Golf Resort likewise caters to most golf fanatics and players. This golf resort is easily within 20 minutes of all the top attractions such as Disney and Universal Studios. And because it is situated at the west of the attractions, Championship Golf Resort could be easily reached using Florida Turnpike and Osceola Parkway toll roads, with which vacationers could avoid the heavy congestion often experienced when approaching from the east.

Aside from these three marvelous golf resorts, there are plenty of other golf resorts waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. You can find the golf resorts on the Web for more information. Some even have virtual tours.

My mates from Chicago have found these resorts to be great alternatives to make the most of their vacation and golfing activities truly invigorating ones.

Happy golfing!

I discovered recently how easily it is to loose the swing & feel and the importance of physical fitness for golfers. My golfing partner had some time off to recover from a minor operation on his knee. He had a handicap of 14 playing consistently for the last couple of years when he started having issues with his knee 12 mths ago.

With the pain he was enduring he had changed his golf swing unconsciously to alleviate the discomfort of the knee, but it also added to the pain of his game.

When he got back on deck he found he was having trouble getting back to his original swing. Not only had the pain gone from the knee but so had the strength that it had which had also impacted on to the rest of his fitness including his lower back.

He is in his fifties and this was the first instance of him feeling old. Not a pretty site for someone who prided himself of the importance of physical fitness. But to his credit, he would not give in to the cart, he knew he had to be able to walk the course and to do that he would have to get back to exercises and stretching.

After we both done some research on what we needed to do to get fitter, because I wasn’t letting him get the edge over me! We discovered that over 70% of golfers have suffered from a low back injury at some point of their career. After the lower back, the hips become a problem area with the older golfers, affecting their golf posture which in turn affects their golf.

What we also realized was that if your lower back is tight, your hamstrings would be also so your flexibility would be pretty much zero.

This affects the take away of the golf club. You would find it hard to keep your posture as you take the golf club back, your trunk and lower back should be coiling with minimal hip rotation which requires a lot of flexibility in the lower back and mid-section.

If you cannot rotate your upper body over a fixed lower body, you will not create any torque, which will result in very short, inconsistent drives.

What should be happening is your upper body turns at least 90 degrees, and your lower body about half of that or 45 degrees. If you get this right you can hit long straight golf shots. If not, your results will be inconsistent.

So as we found out, just in the take away, if your lower back and hamstrings are restricted and so are your golfing results. Now that’s only about 1/4 of all your muscle groups that effect your golfing results.

What you need to do is:

Get the strength back – As we get older, our ability to maintain strength slowly declines. Its the unfortunate cause of aging. The human body is an amazing machine. When you put a demand on it, it responds. The demand could be something as simple as two to three resistance exercises for areas of your body you feel is lacking.

Become more flexible – You can do a complete golfers’ stretches in less than 15 minutes to dramatically improve your range of motion specific to your swing.

Add more endurance – By doing 2-3 aerobic sessions a week for up to 30 minutes. For the more experienced (older), this could be going for a walk at a faster pace or over hilly terrain or if your got a static bike growing dust use it! Cardiovascular exercise has been shown to improve golf performance. Even though golf does not require high-intensity bursts of energy, it still taxes the body throughout the round, which results in lack of concentration and mental mistakes.

Add more water – what! you say. Hey, our bodies are almost 60% water and our muscles are almost 80% water but we will wait until we are thirsty, which is too late. If water is not replenished, mental function and concentration is lost. Combine this with inadequate food intake and performance can decrease dramatically.

So, my golfing partner and I have a better understanding of the importance of physical fitness for golfers.

He has come along well getting his golf swing back as with his fitness and my golf fitness has dramatically increased and not so amazingly, not only has our golf improved but also our everyday lives.

Don’t leave it too late, otherwise your golfing days will be numbered.

The older we get the faster we get to that day!!
