MONA art:
The Museum of Nebraska Art highlights a specific artist regularly in the library.  This semester’s artist is John Falter, a native of Plattsmouth, NE, and best known for his cover paintings in The Saturday Evening Post.   The artwork is displayed on the main floor, at the entrance to the library and within the  Cafe.

Departmental posters:
For the last three years the Library has been show casing the work of UNK’s faculty, departments, and service units through a series of displays.  The displays are up for about a month during the school year.  You can view many past displays on the Library’s flickr page.   Current posters featured are from the departments of Geography & Earth Science and Computer Science & Information Systems.

Student research:
During the same period, over thirty students have had their research displayed in Library in the form of posters.  The posters are provided by the Office of Undergraduate Research and represent the broad range of research interests UNK students have; all have been previously exhibited at either the Fall or Spring Student Research Day.   Posters, two at a time, are up for about a month.  Currently, see posters by Jordan Heiliger/Dr. Longo and Jess T. Gifts from China:
Chancellor Kristensen joined a delegation from the University of Nebraska at Kearney on a Recruitment and Development trip to China in the summer of 2011.  Some of the beautiful and unusual gifts he received from our Chinese counterparts and colleagues are on display on the first floor by the Cafe for all of the UNK community to enjoy.  Cities visited include:  Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Weihai, Shenyang, and Shijiazhuang.

English Department faculty publications and information are currently on display on the library’s main level, across from the Reference Desk. Follow the “UNK Department Displays” category of In Brief Online for updates on academic department displays at the library.

Research produced by students and faculty within the Department of Management is currently on display on the library’s main level, across from the Reference Desk.

Posters from the Department of Teacher Education are currently on display in the library.  These posters were created as part of the department’s NCATE review in Fall 2010, and will be displayed until mid-February on the library’s main level, across from the Reference Desk.

Faculty research from the Department of Family Studies and Interior Design is currently on display in the library. This display will be available through the end of the semester on the library’s main level, across from the Reference Desk.

The Department of Counseling & School Psychology (CSP) has put together an informational display in the library.  Click here for pictures of the CSP library display.  Graduate Assistants Dani Butterfield and Jayme Jacobson coordinated the display.  Department Chair, Grace Ann Mims, provided the following background information for the display.

The research thesis and posters reflect scholarly work from graduate students in School Psychology.  Pictures show students presenting their research at the International Collaborative Research (ICR) conference.  The ICR was created by CSP to orchestrate collaboration on research projects between the graduate students and faculty in the UNK College of Education and international partners.

Also featured in a photo album and on a poster is the Counseling Program’s student organization Chi Sigma Iota’s Pine Ridge Intercultural Service-Learning Immersion experience. The social advocacy project expands the collaborative partnerships between students and faculty from the UNK Department of Counseling and School Psychology, and students and faculty at Oglala Lakota College. The goal is to develop community advocacy of culturally appropriate approaches to mental health services for Lakota participants in the Pine Ridge community.

The School Psychology student organization, GrASP, participates in community philanthropic events such as the Honey Bear fundraising event sponsored by Buffalo County ARC to support families with developmentally disabled children.

Chi Sigma Iota and GrASP collaborate each spring to sponsor The Kent Estes Justice For All Conference, which is designed for counselors, teachers and other professionals in the social work field. The Justice for All Conference was created eight years ago by Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), the UNK chapter of the International Honor Society of Professional Counseling. Two years ago, when Dr. Kent Estes, former chair of the counseling and school psychology department, passed away, CSI changed the event’s name to the “Kent Estes Justice for All Conference.”

To honor the dedication of the new UNK Planetarium later this month, the Department of Physics and Physical Sciences has prepared a display of photographs showing the construction of the new planetarium.

The pictures were taken by Dr. Ken Trantham, Chair of the Department, Dr. Jose Mena-Werth, Director of the Planetarium, and Dr. Mena-Werth’s daughter, Paloma.

The photographs will be on display in the Library through the end of February.

Faculty and student research from the Psychology Department is now on display in the library.

The display highlights student activities, the history of the department, and examples of both faculty and student research.

Please stop by the library to view the display and learn more about the history and achievements of the Psychology Department.  The display will be up through the end of the semester.

On a related note, the library congratulates Dr. Richard L. Miller, chair of the Psychology Department, for receiving the prestigious 2009 Outstanding Master’s Universities and Colleges Professor award.

In conjunction with the dedication of the Bruner Hall addition, research by UNK chemistry faculty is on display in the library. The display is comprised of nine posters, representing the myriad of novel research conducted in the Chemistry Department. Mounted on two large bulletin boards, the display is located on the main floor, by the staircase, across from the reference desk.

This display will remain up through October. Please stop by to learn about the research endeavors of these UNK faculty members.
