Okay, I am admitting myself here, I suck in blogging. Writing a dairy, yeah, sure... that is as hell easy as talking to myself in the mirror or like the time I am talking to God silently in my own brain. But writing what matters for the public reader isn't as easy as taking a candy from a child... or at this moment, kissing a random handsome stranger on the street! Not that I am kissing anyone at the moment... I mean seriously...

Thousands of mind just don't think alike!

So, I am thinking that it is time for me to start sharing with the crowd of things that I DO care! Like the books that I bought from the shelves in Kinokunia (KLCC, Malaysia), or the new songs from my list of favorite bands/singers or more into movies (my specialty...hehe)... other than capturing pictures and posting them up freely on my other blog.

Yeah, this is now 2013, it is time I step it up... Or like what Stevie Rae from House of Night (by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast) like to put it "Time to cowboy up!"

Anyway, you would be thinking, "Who the hell this Kimberly Yeo??" Well, I may not be that Kimberly Yeo from Singapore who can speed type her way through an sms... But I am the Kimberly Yeo who is a freak for books... (not a bookworm though) But I do like to keep my books in great condition that might probably last longer than my lifetime... Talking about books, yesterday I bought myself two books... promising myself that I wouldn't buy any... what an itchy hands of mine... Anyway, I got myself a copy of The Journalist and the Murderer by Janet Malcolm and also The elements of Journalism by Bill Kovach and Tom Rosentiel. I am not really a journalist... yet.... but I have had a fair share in the field of photojournalism... without the writing part though...

So I will be reading these two books, and I will let y'all know what I get from them soon.

==========

Listening to The Chemical Brothers "Hannah Soundtrack"

Mood - Hopeful

A lot of things have been happening lately. Things got way more busy at work, but I seem to have improve a lot in product photography. Which makes me think of doing a freelance job as a product photographer. Obviously anyone can do that, even those that has no experience what so ever.

This time around, I feel so lonely. Even though I have people around me, but none seem to understand what I had to go through this pass few weeks, and what I am still going through. But what the heck, every man for himself. I concluded that no one understands you except you. If my own family cant even understand me, who will? The only person who I can truly count on is my best friend, and he too also has his own problem that he is trying to solve with difficulty. I cant always throw my troubles on him.

This days its been hard to talk with her. Maybe its because there are certain things in me that I cant tell her, and she is making it even harder for me to open up to her like I used too. Now I just dont know her anymore, yet I owe her a lot of my life. This I must pay back. I need to pay back everything that I owe to her and to my father. It is not because I am a good caring child. My reasons are more selfish basis. I want a name for my own, and not be titled as someone's belonging. My things are not mine unless I pay the whole amount back.

Wishes To Savour

It has been a long time since I left home to start work as a photojournalist. I love my work. But I miss home too. Especially my mother's cookings. When I go back home for the holidays, I am going to bury myself in these:

1. Barramundi fish (Ikan Siakap) steamed in (fried) thai pepper, (fried) garlics and sweet soy sauce.

2. Fried chicken in chunk size in thick lemon squized souce.

3. Water spinach (Kang kong) cook with sambal belacan.

4. Fried carrot cake.

5. Red velvet cake
Just sitting in office with my laptop, looking at the previous blogs from the years before. I never knew I could manage to write something as that awful and to even put it up for everyone to read! What an embarrassment to the world of writing.

I notice who I still got pictures from my junior years in university, with friends that I no longer friends with. Should I take them down? Seeing those faces and brings the saddest memories back. But I guess I should just leave them there for others to see. Besides, thats the reason why I write blogs... To share with people.
Poverty... What is poverty? Just another word in the dictionary with more useless words that meant nothing more to another human being whom set high up in the status quo. What is poverty? For someone who wakes up every morning, left the house with perfume tracing their steps, with a desk at the office, car at the basement and a family to go home to at the end of the day. It is no different from a man waking up every morning, walking to a clear spot on the street with footsteps to trace his every whereabouts, personal belongings beside him where ever he goes, and every where is his place for a home in the cold night.

View Pictures >>

Poverty means not to have the care of the entire world on his shoulder. Not to care if there would be another world war, or who would be the next minister of the nation or the bills to pay for the previous months. All they have in mind is the remaining debt they have to pay and the filling of their stomach. I remember watching in a documentary on one war corespondent that had previously covered the poverty in Africa. Quoted from James Nachtwey, "Primarily these famines were not natural famines. They were product of war. Its conceivable the oldest weapon of mass extermination known to men. Its very primitive, and yet its very effective."

I agree to what James had said in the documentary. The act of wars affects poverty intensely like a nuclear missile landed on Singapore. Only difference is that human survive the impact of war, only to face the hush hunger of poverty. And this is no hunger game in the movies. The story of their lives and how they landed on the streets were not stories made up by some writers behind their papers and pens. These are real living people that we seldom find time to understand what they face in their daily routine or how they ended up having nothing to sleep on except the hardness of the roadside walkway.

Malaysia is not at war and it hasn't been since the day Malaysia got its own independency in 1957. But we still see poverty in every corner of the streets we turn to. Why is that? The economics in Malaysia is rising and rising as the abled living people struggle to get along with their lives, earning money and paying bills, while the poor continue on poorer than the day before. Often when people laid eyes on these homeless people on the street, the first impression from them was that they were drug addicts, wasting their money on nothing but expensive drugs, or bottle of alcohol to end their nights. It is the first instinct for the human nature to stereotype everything that comes along the way, but never to reason with the possibility of other events that might have taken place in these street wonderer's lives.

A friend of mind told me once of how he came across a man in the middle of the night. With just a quick glimpse, my friend thought it was just an old stray dog, bathing itself. As he stare longer, it turns out that the dog was actually a naked at a drain gutter, cleaning himself with the waters that came out of it. Another time, I witness with my very own eyes, of a mother with two kids, one believe to be a toddler while the other only an infant. I watch as horror and sadness fills me as the mother poured soda water from the can, into the infant's milk bottle and feed the infant of what seems to be milk + soda, just so the infant could get away from having to feel the horrid feeling of hunger-nest. That time I was without my camera, so I could not proof to anyone of what I had seen. Just last week, I found this mother again, sitting at a different spot in Kuala Lumpur. She was playing with her infant child in her arms while her toddler watch as people pass by. This time, there wasn't any milk in the bottle. Instead it was filled with rose syrup water, of what I believe that she bought from a hawker near by that roughly cast about RM1.50 or so. I stayed a little longer to observe and notice how there are some kind folks putting red notes into the cup in front of her.

People see Malaysia as a peaceful beautiful place and that Malaysian are quite lucky to be living in Malaysia because there are no natural disasters like tornado or hurricane and that Malaysian are lucky to be out of war zones. But they haven't seen the dark side of Malaysia. The people there were abundant, got thrown out of their own homes to live on the streets, surviving nothing more than walk pedestrians got to offer them and the cold hard looks as they watch these street wonderer's with disgust. Most people only cared about themselves and their own well being that they have forgotten those that doesn't even have a home to go to. People fight for the rights of freedom and a righteous voting system that they have forgotten about those that hardly even exist in the eyes of the governments. Governments talk about reformation of system, but does that even benefit those that could hardly feed themselves? To ask for benefits of the citizen, it has to be the kind of benefit for all walks of life, for the jobbers and the jobless, for the homies and the homeless, for families and the loners. Benefits for citizen should not be particular to a certain degree of citizenhood.

If you want a better country, start from the lowest of life, not the middle.

It kills me to think that people only listen to this kind of songs because it came out in the movies or that it was sang by their favorite singer, and not because of what the song meant.

I gues it is rahter common for the life of artisans. They are often being miss understood for their passion, their work, their ideals through their talent. Directors often get critisism of their work because of what it portrays, but it is never seem as to how things can be different base on the viewers themself. Musicians are often said to be the ones doing drugs, easy money as long as you have the voice. And people love them base on their beats in musics, the singers sociality, which brings no differ from actors. I don't know what I am blabbing about... Sorry...

Its just so unique that most people don't pay attention to what it is in life that they are living for. Is life all about getting great education, growing up, getting good job with good pay cheque and having a family and later die? Is that all? Then what is it that makes our life so important when majority of lifes are like that? Where is the question of "What is the significant of my birth?"...or..."What am I suppose to do in this life time"... I don't know about you, but i have been thinking of these kind of questions since I was 5. Always with the imagination of doing something great, like stopping the war. I used to have this riddiculus imagination of me standing in the middle of the battle, between enemy lines. Red on one side and blue on the other. Now that I put this toughts in black and white, it does seem riddiculusly silly. Mind you... Even if I were to stop the war, its most definately not by standing in between enemy lines...

Stopping war... How can a little girl, as short as me, be able to do that? If it were fantasy...Yea...May be... But lets just stay in reality please! War will never stop so long as humans never glue their butt to the chair!
Aidin's dream now a days has becoming more of a motivation for me. Besides them being look like some sort of messages from my other sisters, making him look like a mere medium,
but the weirdest part is that what he had dream was what I have been telling myself for the pass few weeks. And now he dreams of what I have said? I didn't even mention to him about what I want to do with my future. Talk about coincidence!

I know what I want to do, I know what I need to do. But I dont know yet of how I can reach to that point where I can start doing what I need to do. I know that I am weak willed. Often depending on motivation from my fellow companions, since knowing that I can't get any mental support from my families. I don't have much friends. I begining to be afraid of trusting people about myself. I am afraid what ever they know about me may be used against me, and I can't have that. I have been avoiding going out with friends. Especially the ones that possess negative energy. It is not that they are bad people, but I am afraid of getting tangle up in their very own negativity...

I still need to find where I stand in this world. Find what is the most powerful drive that could push me out from my cage and my captor. To be brave to fly through that burning jungle and not having anyone or anything stopping me from what I need to do. I need to find the right steps that doesn't make me go backwards, to that pitiful, powerless child I once was.
I need to do this. I need this for myself. I need this.....
Lately, there were lots of things up in my head. Some of which took hold the better judgement of me. Some, by far the most disappointing memoirs to be made for future lessons.

I admit that I have been away, from my fellow readers. From my college friends and close families. It seems that I have lost the touch of being able to communicate with people other than myself. Unsocialize, some would call me. But I do not deny... I have lost the sense of socializing. To my friends and families out there, I truly ask for your forgiveness and also your understanding.
Lately, I have been working with Star Publication as a Photographer. I do not know if I should call it as being a photojournalist... Or just a simple term as photographer. I learned through out my time there, that all photojournalist are great photographers. But not all photographers can be a great photojournalist. Just like what they said: Any person can cook for their own survival, but not everyone can cook to produce a great satisfaction for the buds.

I have many people coming to me, asking me why I had studied film and now I am doing something else. To me, I see film as something that is not hard to do. What I mean is that it is not hard to portray what you want to tell your audience. Because film is constantly moving, frame by frame is every second. Message is portrayed in various ways with various techniques, with the use of technical and props and actors. But photography or photojournalism, you just have that one moment. That one moment that is so curial to the whole story. That one millisecond that could change the perception of the world towards the subject of a picture. That one millisecond that is so vital, that it keeps you alive, it keeps you breathing and keep on pushing yourself. And you would always find yourself saying: Just one more, just one more.... You see, when it comes to being a single still frame, you tend to treat everything so vital that your own lives seem to depend on it. That is the art of still frame that makes it so challenging that film becomes only a mere child's play thing.

Deep down, I love doing lots of things. From finding facts, studying myth, writing stories, making films and doing still shots. From painting to musics, from analyzing to experimenting. There is no stop for me. I love to try out anything and everything. Some people that I have met while working in Star, they called me multi-task talent. But honestly, I just love to learn. This world is so full of knowledge that the idea of one person only skilled in a particular thing is not a fair play of life. Life is just too short that you have to try out everything, go adventure, discover and rediscover. Life does not just stop there just because you have graduated from a major. Life does not just stop there just because you are married. Life does not stop there just because the world is going to end. Life doesn't just stop at anywhere, because time itself does not stop. Till the time you take your last breath, life would still go on, even for the death. But the journey ahead would be twice as long as those breathing. Still, life does not stop there.
It seems that I have always celebrate, or more like having my birthday be celebrated by others during the day. But strangely enough, it was never during the night. Normally as I know, who doesn't celebrate their birthdays at night? Only me I guess... But what can I do? Yet there are others amongst my friends who would send some shock wave to my brain by only asking of what I want to do during my birthday. Honestly, I have never thought of that, seeing as I have never got the chance to do the things that I want to do. But thinking back now, maybe for my 21st birthday, I should treat myself to the dance floor? Clubing anyone? On second thought, I have been to one... and it was my first time there too, drinking Balihigh was the most wonderful beer that I have ever tasted in my whole youth life. Or maybe I should go watch a movie? But I normally watch movies even though its not my birthday... So what should I do for this year.... I have absolutely no idea at all. But if you have one, do let me know.

Amongst all the quotation by great people, there is one that I could not get my mind off. It was firstly said by Confucius: "The journey is better than the destination". Which as simple as it appears, it means that, people should enjoy the experience of life, whether if it scares you, or make you lose you balance, the experience of being in love itself is more valuable than to care about how it would end. What matters most in life is not where you land your feet, but instead of where your feet steps on.

People always said to me that life is too short to complain about anything, or too short to not try out something. Too short that one day you would regret for not doing something which you want to do but fear to do. I remember watching this one show which Hilary Duff was acting in, I remember this one quotation that you would be able to find it one the wall saying: "Never let the fear strikes you out from playing the game," or something like that. In fact, if you were to think back about the meaning, it is true that life itself is a game. Like what Frodo remind Sam: “Remember what Bilbo use to say: It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to"". In deed that the road is just like your life, not knowing of what that is lies ahead of you. If you were to take the left, or even the right turning, you might never know what were to come next, whether it is good for you, or bad.

Life is just as unpredictable as those that die as soon as their were born. If we can still survive till this current age, it proof that we are strong. Strong enough to make any journey without having to fear of what might come. And it is never to late.
For my birthday, I think I go back to the traditional saying: "Be with my family, friends, and my boy friend". That is all that I can ever ask for.

Darken Earth

Sometimes I wonder what is in the future ahead for me... What is in stored for me, and what would my life be like. All kinds of imagination about my future lingers in my head and how and what I have to do to reach to my dream. Even know, I still wonder if the things I did was the right one to even do it.

Now after 6 years that have passed by, I started cleaning up my room, only to find more things that triggers memories. Memories that I least want to remember. Most consist of people that I envy, people that had betray me people that dont really have anything good thing to do with my life. But somewhere buried deep beneath all of this bad memories, lies some of the good ones. Ones that I got close to such as my cousins, even though there were good times and bad times. Some whom are my friends that I could count on.

But the thing is, we see the importance of looking forward so much that we forgot to take the time to look at what we have gone through in our life to reach to where we are now. When I was cleaning my room, I realize that 6 years have passed since the time I taken a picture with my 3 other cousins together. Yet I remembered it as if it was only yesterday...
Maybe it was the happiest and saddest day of my life to be feeling both ways for two different reason. Firstly, it was my graduation. Being graduated from the 4 years of my life in Limkokwing. Though some may say that the departure of graduates are always the saddest, but truthfully, it was my happiest day that I finally being able to get out of there. I sincerely would miss some of the lecturers there, some of whom are the greatest amongst all others, yet some of whom were not the lecturer of my subjects. But they were kind to me all the same. It was also the saddest day of this year, because during the entire event of the graduation, it was also the last time or the last day of my relationship with one great companion, who is a good person that does not see himself in the light. The thought of our agreement to end our little relationship at the last day of our being in university, resides in my head up till the very day of the graduation. I could do nothing but to only produce a smile on my face. Most of my friends know not of this agreement of ours. What a shock. But sometimes, actually most of the time, we need to face reality.

Even though I may say that it was the saddest day of all. But up till now, up till this very day, I havent shade a tear over the end of this companionship. Because, I know I still have him, as a close and dear friend, even if no longer my companion. But he is a very valuable friend. One that I trust above all others.

Life is not something that someone can say it to be ordinary. To me, Life is something extraordinary, because you never really get to know when will your time be up, how and where. I guess that is why many people like to say this one quotation:

Live life to the fullest

I remember reading from somewhere, maybe it was one of Buddha's teaching about how to treat life in the most harmonious way. I read something about "what comes must go, and what goes must also come". The whole idea is somewhat like what was written in Harry Potter, "To find what is lost, you must first loose it in order to find it". A common sense there. How can one find something that is not already lost? That would not be finding in the first place.

Anyway, what my point is, that when it comes to life, people are born and people are dying. It wouldn't be fair if its just people born all the time, that would create population over load. It wouldn't be fair too if people are dying all the time, there would not be enough space to bury them all and human will one day seize to exist! Just like the teaching in Taoism:

Everything needs a balance in nature, the good and the bad, the light and the dark, the life and the death.

If one where to take over the numbers, than chaos will eventually override everything that we now know off.

The reason why I say that life is extraordinary yet death is just something ordinary in life that we have to face, is because death, is something that we know a hundred percent that will happen to each and every one of us. But only the question of when, how, where, resides in our mind until that day truly comes. Death is just something normal in every culture. There is not a single extraordinary in it, because we have out grown of death. Death due to sickness, death due to old age, death due to accident and so on. Then comes the four wooden walls of coffin to place the dead into the ground. What so special about that? The special thing about death is that of the memory they leave behind with the people who bury them. But such memories are only possible to imprint onto people's life is only when they are alive. Like they normally say:

Be with the ones you love and enjoy each and every moment you spent together.

I admit one thing in life. I ALWAYS try to avoid death, avoid having to go to the funeral of someone related to me, or someone that I like and have a memory off. It is not that I am afraid. But what I can say is that there would be so many questions. Questions that I often ask myself, is there really heaven and hall? Or maybe its just a make up believe in the holy books. What if there is no where that the dead can go? What if they are actually all stuck on the earth or even worst, stuck in their own coffins, like the movie about a man being bury alive, but change the real man to the soul of the dead.

Life to me, it is more of a journey. Depending on how I want to travel and with whom. There are no rules in the traveling of life, only that governments make such rules to control us. But doesn't mean that we don't have a control of our own lives. Whats extraordinary about life is of how you play the game.

Peter Greenaway always says that cinema is not for telling stories. "Its a half-dead medium wasted by taking its cues from books. Telling bedtime stories for adults.

Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are illustrated books. Not Cinema. I want to be a prime creator. As every self-regarding artist should do."

One of Peter's many wishes was that to see a cinema that is a cinema from ground-up, not a cinema that has first to find life in a book or play before it can be a film.Im most ways, I agree with Peter at this point that cinema is not for telling stories. Because it is already being done by one of the seven forms of arts. We understand that cinema comes from the mind of the directors, not from the mind of a book writer. Cinema is like a plain canvas, sitting in front of the painter, waiting to be painted of something that is not seen, but thought. Just as Pablo Picasso once said, "I paint objects by what I though, and not by what I see". The most famous painters never paint thing the way we ordinarily sees the world, but rather, to give us an insight of what we dont see. To see the other way around, or should I say, to see beyond the scope of what is given to see.

Finally the day has come...

Though many people says that we humans would not be able to stop learning, until the day they die, rot and faith away, I just want to say... Sorry for my absentees, and that I was not able to post more pictures. I was busy rapping up my works and assignments, and I just have to say this...Its finally over!! The days of going to college is finally ended. No more classes, no more spending moneys on doing assignments and school fees, and most definitely no more college foods.
Previous I told you guys that I plan to make a short film about husband having affair with another woman. But unfortunately I was not able to find a suitable actress for the affair's role. So instead, I did a documentary, titled Un-Equility. Pardon me, but for now, I could not reveal what this documentary is about nor post it on the side. I want to send it to festivals. But for now, I'm going to try think of a way to do the cheating husband short film... wish me luck ^_^
This are the things that you would not learn there:

1. How to write a documentary script.

2. How to do a proper mood board.

3. How to make DVD with playlist, scene selection...

4. How to make documentary of all the 6 modes

5. The right way of writing treatment.

6. How to write treatment for documentary.

7. How to draw blocking.

8. How to play with lights.

9. Special makeup

Anyway, I have been busy walking around KL, taking pictures, taking more footages of what is happening around us. I have a car of my own. But I more prefer to drive my car to somewhere, and walk 50 meters around it, taking pictures and videos as I go. Not only it is a good way to loose all the fats, but sometimes you just cant get anything from sitting in the car...

So back on the matter of my final year project, looks like it that I cant make it, because I don't have any actress that would play the part of the girlfriend. Now my plan has changed... I'm doing a documentary instead, about life...and death... Actually...now Im on the way of editing it... But tears keep falling down as I edit...just too sad...

Anyway, got to go do my work... Take care, and Happy Halloween.

This is ScartyScarf signing off...

P.S... If I am lucky enough, I might just bring you some pictures of Halloween in Malaysia (KL).

Life N Death

Sometimes I have the feeling that we are God's food. God made us from flour, bake us till we either becomes a pretty, lovely cake, or un ugly cake. But either way, God will eat what God made. Which comes to the saying that God will take away whatever that is given to us, especially your lives.
What makes our live more worthy and more different from anyone else? Is it because of the different jobs that we go to? Or is it the different ideology and believes that each on us have? Maybe its the fact that we often don't associate ourselves more often with strangers on the road.

Sometimes when we walk outside on the road, with all the pedestrians, we have that brief moment of feeling that our lives are very much different from the lives of others. Maybe its the self contentment that makes us more happy about themselves, or the problems that one have to face that makes them envy the lives of the others? We all have walk on the streets in a little while ago. Even those that possess a car or any kind of transportation have to walk amongst the common folks on the streets. Either its at the market, going to the cinema for a show, or just going out for a smoke or a drink. We all have been in the presence of the common folks. Who is to say that we are different from each other anyway?

We do things in our own. We walk on the streets with our mind kept to our selves. We share private things only to those that we could trust our lives with. We share happiness and tears with those who we know are on our side. And we always fight to be the best. But in the end, we still end up in the stomach of our maker, like food at the end of the making process.

Having a phone...

The thing about living in this new era is that all of the new generations are highly equip with technology. From the adults who have health problems, down to babies who tries to tell their parents what they need in baby language. The thing is, no one can run away from problems. Its just that how you are going to face it when it arrives.

Im still pack with assignments as this semester would be my final semester, then I would be a free bird. Maybe work in a news company. As far as my semester goes, this is the first time Im going to do directing. Directing for my own final year project. The story being that a husband cheats and his deaf wife only to be killed later on by his own girlfriend who have a mutual dealings with the wife. A simple story that taken place in one night, an everyday event. Im titling it "The Good Wife".

My problem right now is that I cant find anyone who looks like the wife and the girlfriend... all those that i can think of, they mostly rejected me because... well, most of them have their own assignments, or that their parents doesn't allow them to be out at night.... What a life!

My shooting time would be the next upcoming Monday and Tuesday. A two nights shoot. The boys are waiting for me. Just the two girls are missing, a hearing aid and also one bar... Where can I find a bar in Kuala Lumpur that would give me the permission to shoot? Its hard to be a director when you are doing most of the things...Alone!

Well, got to go back to work, this is ScartyScarf signing off!

P.S: if all goes well, I might post the final video here. Who is God? If God created to universe, then what created God? What is God made of and how do we know what is real and what is not? Maybe the things that we think that aren't real, would be the real things after all, and all those that we believe them to be real are just illusions? What if the Greek gods were real, or the Titans, or the Norse Gods? What is all of them were real and Ragnarok did really happen...maybe on earth? If not, then why would the archeologist came to the findings of giant skeletals all over the world? And where are they now??

What if, just what if...a question...that all religions was made up in order for us to just be farmers, doing our things, minding our own business with our eyes blind folded by religion? What if God, as we see now, is actually Aliens that once visited the ancient Mayans and the Egyptians??

But the biggest question of all. If knowledge in the early BC was not up to our knowledge of existence and technology, then how on earth did they build enormous maze like architecture? Surely there are some remaining piece of knowledge left uncovered...

Well, this is just my screwed up everyday thoughts.
The question of "what if".
Since in reality, war happens because of the differences in race, religions and country. Yet, we are all the same...Human, who so blindly do things without even to ask "what if". So blindly following the norms.
Nothing much to do. Only I wish that I was back in the T-Bowl restaurant eating that poopoo coco ice cream. It was only around 6 ringgit. Something worth while on this tiring and boring day.

I personally dont even know why I got tired in the first place. Maybe it is the lack of sleep... but I sleep around 1:30 am yesterday... I should say today... this early early way early morning. Anyway, this is life. Life of a student. No matter if its sleeping late or early, still have to drive to uni the next day. Talking about drive, that reminds me... I nearly hit into the bud of another car... I think it was a proton...

Anyway, today I am heading the bed a little early. So goodnight all, have a good dream.
