Horses Along the Road

In the pursuits of windows for last week’s Window Assignment, Cheryl and I ran into these lovely horses next to a red barn (don’t worry, Cheryl knew the owner and he doesn’t mind us messing with the horse). We tried to get more horses to come down to us at the fence, but just one actually did and what a hoot he was! Seriously, this was so funny! We about died when he started making all these faces. I was shaking so hard from laughing we can be quite clear that they are not crisp and clear. But funny, yep I can offer you funny!This one might be my favorite !
Ahhh, that is better!This was the same day that everyone posted on facebook about how amazing the frost was…sadly, where we were, the frost was just lightly on the weeds and trees.

Motion Assignment–Moving Water

It was fun to go down to my bridge with only capturing one thing…moving water. With all the ice bits gathering and water falling, it was a very enjoyable scene!

This kitty is so sweet and wonderful. If I didn’t have family members with allergies to said kitty, I would have brought him home. It turns out someone moved away and left him behind. I don’t know what they were thinking, he is such a sweetheart. I know where he lives if you want to go pick him up. From what we could tell is that he was probably an inside cat that has had to hang outside. Glad the weather has been kind to him this year. He worked out perfect for my motion shot for the other day.

Here are some scenes from a walkabout in Paynesville last weekend. The weather is strangely warm and sunny and so very little snow. Crazy!!!! It was refreshing to get out and not freeze that is for certain.

Editing in Lightroom 3

I have been using Lightroom since August of this year. I truly love use it. One of the plus sides to it are quick and easy sorting of my pictures. Editing with ease is my other major bonus. Shooting in RAW format makes additional tweaks a necessity. Lightroom is great for jpg’s, but even better when you shoot in RAW.

As you can see, I was off a little in my manual settings when I was trying to snap a few shots of this little angel the other day. But in spite of my missed exposure, I was able to open her up in Lightroom and fix it. I have been working towards getting things right out of camera, but I do not live in “I am always a perfect success” land, so I am thankful for a tool like Lightroom to tweak my work a little.

I am quite amazed with what some healing will do to fix her scratched eye and brightening. Well, a few more things too, that I would have to go back to the history to reveal. Sometimes it is more, sometimes less for editing. The nice thing is that I really don’t mind the process, especially when I use Lightroom. Here is my first quick run with editing this shot. I think it is just fine for a fun baby shot.

Today I downloaded the new Pretty Presets brushes. Since I wanted to practice a little on a picture, I used this one again. Not that she needed any improving, but think of this as me just messing around. I brightened her skin, added some extra blue to her eyes, There was some yellow hues in a few spots so I tweaked that. Pretty much turned her into more of a porcelain doll baby.

Newborn Shoot back in October

Cheryl and I headed to the cities one bright and sunny day to do a newborn photo shoot with this yummy little being! Baby “F” was so cute and perfect. I loved all her sweet hair and tiny baby toes. Precious!

In Search of Windows

This week’s assignment is windows, so I have been looking at windows very differently. Funny thing though is that once I think I have the shot, I quickly move on because it isn’t like you can stock pile them for the week. My eyes will look again tomorrow!!! Ken Davis Show

Spirit 92.9 hosted Ken Davis to our little town of St. Cloud on Saturday night.

I took quite a few pictures of him and each one had a different look on his face. He was really fun to listen and watch. My husband and I had a great time. Speaking in Stereo! What a hoot!

This was where I was caught. I was trying a different angle for shooting and he nailed me. I knew it was a risk, but I had hoped that if I snuck up to the front and stayed low, he wouldn’t notice….I was mistaken. He came right over and tried interacting with me, I wanted to die!!! He came over and posed for me…Can’t say he looked all too good. I was just glad when he walked away. I really prefer blending in.

The night was fun and I was sore from laughing so hard! So glad we were able to go!

Color Pursuits Continue at My Bridge

The weather was exceptionally beautiful today. Sunny (ahhh, glorious sun!), Blues Skies, and Clouds. Altogether lovely! So after my chiro appt I snuck over to the bridge to capture some shots to see how winter was looking over there. I am happy and I found a nice color shot for my 365 project. Yep, today’s color is black!Here are the rest from the day!Lots of melty snow on the wood planks.

Color Posting Continues

Thanks to color week on the 365 Project, here are more color leftovers so to speak. I just couldn’t stop taking advantage of the rainbow goldfish to shoot a few extras and of course share them here. I just loved how vibrant they looked and all the fun colors. The funny thing is, I never buy these outside of my desire to take pictures of them. My kids just don’t need the extra dye that they offer, but on this rare occasion I am sure they won’t complain about eating them all up!

Enough goldfish shots? I am sure, lets see what I come up with today!

Color Pursuits

The assignment this week for my 365 Project is color, which you know is one of my main passions out here on my In Hot Pursuit of Color blog. Today, there were just too many choices of color, so my extras that I just had to share them out here.

Today we were in Wadena visiting a family member and saw many amazing murals everywhere. This one specifically was huge!!

Here are some close ups of it.Indeed lots of color in Wadena! I almost think I need to go back again and find some more. On the way home though I had to snatch a shot of this. How would you like to live in the town of “Bertha”? Yah, me neither?

Hanging Out

I was hanging out with my youngest while my oldest was getting her hair beautified. He went to the post office and even the grocery store with me. I tell you, we certainly didn’t do exciting things, but he does it with a good attitude. Just a few shots of the snow. So pretty today!

Fall Photoshoot with the “N” Family

I had the chance to do a photoshoot with a fellow photographer and her family. It was a beautiful day and the family was a blast to photograph. We captured some really fun pictures of the family that day! On top of it, it was one of the last beautiful days before the temps dropped down and the sun just didn’t feel as warm.

This one was fun, the dad had thought it would be fun to have the rest of the family posed and have his youngest daughter run through the scene. This is what she loves to do, so it wasn’t hard to convince her. It was pretty fun to get that shot!

What a beautiful family! I can’t wait to meet the new one when he/she is born soon. Thanks for the chance to spend some time with your family Mrs. N!

Girls Retreat - Journalistic Shots

Along with a number of other amazing photographers, I was able to do a photo journalist shoot for a girls retreat that our church was sponsoring. It was so much fun to capture all the girls while they experienced all that the retreat had to offer them.

The girls had spa treatments that involved getting their hair done, nails, makeup, and massage. All while listening to an awesome band and enjoying yummy treats.

After the spa treatments the girls moved onto the next phase which involved a fun fashion show where six girls were given a makeover and then shared their new styles on the runway.

As challenging as low light settings are, when the lighting happens to cooperate, you can get some fun shots.

After the show and few other things there was a time of worship, after I snapped a few shots, of the band and then took off for the night. They still had many moments planned for the girls that consisted of more worship and a great message and then the pizza party.

I returned the next morning for the prize drawings and a few more games to start the day. Eating bananas with your feet, yep, glad to be the photographer and not the girl playing the game!

This look she is making…it is because she is very afraid of the next challenge.

Yep, the girls had to eat a blended happy meal…yuck!Not one girl could fully drink a whole glass because they were just plain old gross! ewww!!That part of the event was over and the girls moved on to the next phase. The Dance Off!

They also do a panel with women and then men that the girls in the audience can ask candid questions. The girls very attentive to every step of the way.

Another skit and then moving on to the worship and message part of the afternoon.

It was time for me to take off for home. I would have loved to have heard Adam’s message. It was certainly off to a good start when I slipped out.

I pray the girls had a great time and drew closer to the Lord over the amazing weekend!

Out for a Skate

We did a quick family skate tonight before dinner. It didn’t last too long because it was a bit cold at 10 degrees outside, wind and a little snow blowing. The light was on the low side as the time was closer to 5:00 pm. I was trying out a friend’s 85mm 1.8 lens and sure enough it handled the low light situation like a champ, yay! Sooo gotta get me one of these lenses!

Time to Sled

Finally, just enough snow to do a little sledding on our tiny hills. The kids were really happy about it! They went up and down a million times and smiled every time. Maybe soon we will make it over to the big sledding hill.
