Viv had her first day of preschool camp yesterday and she really enjoyed it. The counselor told me when I picked her up that Viv was great and she was really impressed with what a patient little girl my pumpkin is.

Bubs is doing great as well and brought me home a cool little dreamcatcher to put over my bed “to catch all the good dreams for you Daddy”.

I got a ton of work done yesterday in between shuffling the kids to and fro camps and working the day job from home too. We read a new good book last night, Dino-Dinners (also from the summer reading list from Carolyn).

At one point leaving a comment (I think on lime’s blog), I got the following word verification, being the moron that I be (that’s what a true moron would say you know) … get your slickers on folks!!! it’s a BLOW JOB STORM!!!!!!!… (see below)…

My buddy Bill pointed out a fuck up on the Flyer’s website yesterday in the Paul Holmgren’s contract extension announcement … contact extension? Oh… I just noticed they fixed the homepage image… but the article still has the typo… Extending Homer was a smart move in all seriousness. I also am really happy to see Aaron Asham in the Orange and Black next season too.

I got some good news on Friday evening, my song It Will All Be Over Soon is going to be in a new Adam Bertocci film, Brooklyn Force. I worked with Adam on The World of the End and Madison’s Resume previously, he’s a talented guy and I really appreciated him listening to that track on my MySpace page and digging it enough to include it in his film.

Movie reviews…

Persepolis - it’s pretty impressive when a cartoon creates the clearest insight into what another culture is all about. This film is amazing, seriously. I know lots of intelligent people that write off anything animated, but this is brilliant. Must see.

Vertigo - I’ve realized that Hitchcock + Jimmy Stewart = classic. Kim Novak is insanely beautiful in this film as Madeline. Kim Novak has a curious claim to fame that makes you think… what if she had accepted the lead in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?

Bubs has been doing great at camp. He’s really enjoying seeing all his buddies from school and being outside is what my boy is all about. I love riding bikes with him in the morning down to camp. He’s also really doing well with a healthy routine of lots of activity during the day, a set bedtime (with a bunch o’ reading with Daddy and Yogi beforehand), and taking care of some responsibilities around the house (not much, just keeping his room neat and feeding the animals). I think with all the upheaval in this life, this security and structure is really helping us both relax a bit.

Tomorrow (back permitting), we’re launching the shark canoe on her maiden voyage. The kids are going apeshit with anticipation.

Speaking of anticipation… take a look at the beautiful quilt Carolyn is making for Viv…

Movie review…

The Maltese Falcon - this film is what old movies are all about… Bogey in all his cool intensity and Peter Lorre in all his bug-eyed glory. This is a perfect film. Peter Lorre, by the way is credited with one of the greatest quotes ever by a person attending a funeral… he was attending Bela Lugosi’s funeral and asked Vincent Price, “Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart just in case?”

Bubs has really been enjoying tripping me every two minutes and scaring the cats driving his RC car. He brought it out side on the bricks and successfully navigated it around his sister’s scooter.

After tubbies and dinner, we sat down on the couch and read a bunch of books : Blueberries for Sal, Take a Kiss to School, Blue’s Big Pajama Party, This is Your Garden (Viv loved this one with all of the help she’s been giving me this summer outside), Dino-Hockey, Frankie Stein, and Superhero ABC.

At one point yesterday afternoon, I came outside and spotted a bunch of new broken garden fence slats. I learned that Bubs decided to whack a bunch of them with his baseball bat. I sat him down and talked to him about respecting property and then gave I promptly him a garbage bag to clean up the broken slats, enough slats to replace all the empty spots, and a rubber mallet. I said, “get to work, you broke it, you’ll fix it.” He fixed all of them (with a little help from me… and some nagging guidance from Viv). We talked again about how I want him to take care of his new toys he received for his birthday. The mistakes my kids make are places where I can steer them a little bit. And honestly, the fence is cheap, I’m glad he learned this with something like this rather than say one of Daddy’s guitars… *shudder*.
