Pictures from Day Two… we visited the historic town of Mesilla, NM, drove through the amazing pecan groves of La Mesa ate at La Postata, stopped and stared at the beautiful Organ Mountains… today we head up to Cloudcroft. We are going to stop and check out the White Sands National Monument – stand by for some amazing pictures!

Jersey, I’ll be back in a week… don’t screw anything up while I’m away… stay tuned for pictures… I can’t wait to see Big Tom and Barb and also for them to meet Abbe.

Movie reviews…

Same Time, Next Year – this is another film that I feel like an idiot for not seeing sooner. I’m a big Alan Alda fan (probably mostly because my parents both liked him so much growing up). Such a great movie, lots of laughs and the scene of Alda’s character talking about his son’s death in Vietnam, just tore me apart.

Control – this Pygmalion-ish movie wasn’t horrible, but I did find myself snickering at some of the piss-poor dialogue and passable acting. I’ve read some reviews that this movie is better than expected, but I’m not willing to grade movies on a curve, just because the rest of modern filmmaking sucks so hard.

Book review…

How We Decide – ultimately, this book is a slightly less arrogant version of Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. The author explores the frontal cortex involvement of our choices and the difficulty we all have with emotionally complex decisions. I enjoyed the book, but the book’s conclusion that some decisions are better made rationally and sometimes people make emotionally correct or incorrect decisions… well, I kinda already knew that.

New Mexico Soccer Player Banned After beating up a lot of Mormons… I’m flying into New Mexico tomorrow, I hope I don’t run into Elizabeth Lambert… she seems kinda mean. If I do see her, I’m going to ask if she skates, Flyers could use a little more toughness.
