No surprise, I'm behind schedule with an update, but tonight, back in the middle of one of the most remote places on earth, I had an indescribable moment of connection to the universe (Samantha being the conduit) -"enlightenment" if you will. I wrote some of the most meaningfully inadequate words I've ever written about that moment -here's a bit:

Woke up with this tune in my head yesterday morning -so it was thrown together pretty fast. Gotta feed the muse by working on what she gives me! I can't squander the inspiration that I'm given, and I've noticed that by acknowledging it I get more!

Promo Video for The Wilderness: A Rock Opera

I made a promotional video for the rock opera (with a lot of help)! Not only does Serena make a great witch, she's got some great ideas, and an eye for editing as well. I wrangled Samantha and Willie in to help as well. It's a lot of fun and a lot of work, but 8 hours later, it's shot, edited and on its way to the web! It's exactly what was needed at this point for people to get a better sense of what's the overall atmosphere is going to be, and to understand that I'm serious about this project!

No Budget Set Design

Samantha and I have been working on set design and lighting for the Where the Wild Things Are - 4/20 - Monster Farm Jam! Either it's crazy grass or green fire! Either way it's great for monsters! By no budget I mean about $30us for panels and $50us for LED lighting.

The Wilderness: A Rock Opera -quick status update: Monday locked all day in a room with 4 other dudes 沉默之音(The Silence) 樂團 -we made 20 minutes of the performance arrangements and finished one of the last songs. Tuesday scripted 3 scenes and wrote character action descriptions. Currently writing another of the last songs. (Damn, there end up being a lot of "last songs" in this project.)

Woohoo! Taichung's best acoustic music venue is back! Thanks Scott Chen! After all the closures by the government in reaction to the Ala Pub fire it appeared that one of our favorite live music venues was gone for good. Well Scott figured out how to bring it back!

A warm up and practice session with Serena Engel. Eventually she'll sing this as it's one of the songs The Witch sings. "My Garden" is the song that officially introduces the all important garden and it's 'produce.' The sound you hear in the background is Samantha and William playing Yahtzee... haha!

The Wilderness - Demo Tracks

These are tracks from my new, original musical -working title The Wilderness. I just started writing the script after realizing that what I thought was a typical song-cycle, was working its way into a much larger story.

Typically, I'll go through periods where I'm writing songs with a similar theme or emotional standpoint, but after looking back at my songwriting over the past several months, I realized that a large portion were dealing with fairy tales, witches, and that type of thing. Then I realized that some of the songs I've been writing over the past several years are also written from the same fictional character's point of view. So, here I go headfirst into another large project...

Imagine falling asleep under a tree and waking up in a Grimm fairy tale.

Initially, I believe this story should be told with a shadow puppet theater, live music, narration, and ambient sound.
