We can help in so many ways, but there are some who don’t know how, especially those who are outside Manila or outside the Philippines. I am VOLUNTEERING to help you HELP our brothers and sisters in Manila who are affected by typhoon Ondoy.

My Review of IN MY LIFE

Shirley Templo (Vilma Santos): Anong hindi ko siya kilala?!? Anak ko siya! Sa akin siya nanggaling. Ako ang nagpalaki sa kanya. Kaya bawat hininga at utot niya, alam ko ang ibig sabihin!

Noel (John Lloyd Cruz): Anak niyo lang siya! Hindi niyo siya pag-aari! At hindi lang ikaw ang may karapatan na magmahal sa kanya! Hindi lang sa iyo umiikot ang mundo. At hindi titigil ito kahit mawala ka pa!

Yes, that is what I have been doing. Thinking over and over again, if I will write a short review on the movie I saw due to cancellation of class in Torts and Damages last friday (Thanks Ma’am Gwen! :p).

And because a kind friend, Lohnni, who left a friendster message to me saying: Mukhang busy ka ngayon. Hindi na kasi ako nakakabasa ng blog mo.. nakakamiss lang.

Oh well Lohnni, ito ay para sa iyo (at para na rin sa iba na interesado ng kung anu-anumang mga pinagsusulat ko na walang kwenta).

I have never missed a Vilma Santos film. She has always been in movies that are thought-provoking and feel-good, and played roles with so much depth. In My Life - is no different. It is once again a movie that left a smile on my face when credits started to flash at the end. Now showing in moviehouses this month. (I suggest you see it before finals come in much closer - iba kasi pag movie house, kaysa sa pyrate.. eheste DVD :).

It is the best film I have seen this year. No kidding.

Vilma portrays a mother, old-fashioned librarian in her 50’s while her children, 2 women who are married and a son, who works in New York now have lives on their own. I could so much identify with the storyline, since it parallels to a family like mine who has 2 older sisters who are now married where one who is working in NY, and that though we communicate via mobile and internet, it is undeniable that we have become apart due to differences in continents, time, space and priorities. And our parents would be missing us or have thoughts of being alone now that their children are busy with their own lives to live.

And what makes this story very unusual, and daring is that 2 popular young leading men, portray roles of a homosexual couple living together in a NY apartment, and then Luis’ mom, Vilma Santos who will also portray as his mom in the film will barge in from the Philippines and starts to live with them. It is a drama and no non-sense comedy (and not slapstick) that lifts the heart and gives moral lessons to people who love with no boundaries, no matter what they are. It is the kind of love in its highest form, to love a person not for who they are but what they can give, despite their imperfections.

Vilma portrays a different kind of mother who learns to love her son’s boyfriend. Luis Manzano in his portrayal as gay is highly commended. It is not pilit or O.A., if you know what I mean. And incredible, John Lloyd portrays a gay guy, but doesn’t change from the boy-next-door personality that we always adore about him in his films and tv drama.

Hanggang dito nalang muna. Ayokong maging spoiler e.

My mom and the maids and driver are seeing it at the moment, with my encouragement, as I study all alone in the house soon as I finish this.

Yellow Cab’s latest “Dear Darla”

Though I am not a pizza lover, I grabbed a bite yesterday of Yellow Cab’s latest pizza “Dear Darla” seeing from 2 newspaper advertisements that it has fresh veggies in it. And I also won’t forget my first unforgettable experience eating thin pizza with arugula and alfalfa sprouts with a french-filipino family in Pampanga, which was my favorite among the french food they served.

It is good to know that Yellow cab has added this to its menu, exclusively in the Philippines. Only now that I learned that it has a 24 hour branch at the new UP-Ayala land Technology Hub and with only a P250 minimum for delivery.

Their “Dear Darla” comes with a flyer instruction how to eat this pizza; though it is quite easy, just spread the arugula, then the alfalfa sprouts and drizzle with chili oil. Roll the pizza (pre-sliced in long pieces) with the veggies after that. I also suggest that you eat it while it is hot that makes a big difference when it is not, like any other pizza that is better-tasting when still steaming hot from the oven.

My only criticism, Yellow Cab must add more veggies for one order. I find the veggies “bitin” (insufficent) given for a 10″ pizza, the smallest that is P275, (12″ is P400 plus, 14″ is P500 plus), considering that more sprouts give a much better taste compared with a very scarce supply in one bite. One rule in business, “Wag titipirin ang customer”.

This would definitely boost Philippine tourism!

A Big Question Mark

For the past weeks I kept myself busy making chocolates, reading, watching TV, reading, making chocolates, then making chocolates again, uploading photos of my products, reading, watching TV… and so on and so forth.

But that was basically it.

I had thoughts a couple of times the past days in solitary confinement asking myself, “What do I really want to do in life?”

As I go back…

In grade 2, I wanted to win a beauty pageant. I wanted to join the Little Miss Philippines in Eat Bulaga. I was already thinking on what to wear and what to perform in my talent presentation. But my mom ignored me. I ended up winning in a Miss Intramurals in school though.

Somewhere along the way in gradeschool, I wanted to be a movie actress, a great painter, a politician, a musical actress, or a popular singer - none of which has been achieved so far.

Then on my last year in gradeschool, I had thoughts of becoming a nun.

Came highschool, I had thoughts of becoming a doctor. Then a lawyer. I changed my mind and I wanted to be a doctor again for the latter makes more money.

College came and I took science units as requirements, I realized I wasn’t good at it. I got accepted in some medschool then changed my mind. I backed out.

Then I am now in lawschool.

However what I am enjoying the most is baking and molding chocolates. Yes, now I want to be a baker.

I imagine myself having a bakery making and selling the freshest breads in the north with chocolates and pastries. (And making money).

Why is this post entitled, “A Big Question Mark?” - with a stress on “BIG”. Because I am in a big dilemma. I don’t know what to do in life. For I am in the crossroads. In a quarter-life crisis. For I want to do so many, but I can’t do all. I have so many options, but I don’t know what is best.

What shall I do in life? I am a member of UPLCF, Law Christian Fellowship in school and we hold bible studies almost weekly. Our bible leader told us many times, that whatever we do in life, always remember that we do it for God. - I know this sounds so corny, but isn’t God the one who knows what really is best for us?

So help me God. That whatever I’ll do, I’ll do it for You.
