LowPowerBanner: Banner Style Notifications for Low Battery Alerts

Along with iOS 5, a major update that came along was the banner notifications instead of the irritating pop-ups. While introducing the new banner notifications at WWDC most of the notifications from built-in apps or thirds party apps were discussed, but a common notification of low battery wasn’t discussed and Apple has kept the same pop-up for low battery warning. No wonder whether Apple purposely ignored it or not, but it should have been replaced with the new banner like notification because it is really interrupting and very annoying.

If you’re also annoyed or feel interrupting because of the same old low battery notification, then there’s a new tweak recently released by snakeninny & PrimeCode called LowPowerBanner which can help you replace that irritating block pop-up with a nice new notification banner along with vibration and optional sounds.

How To Install LowPowerBanner

Search the word ‘LowPowerBanner’ or look for the tweak in the BigBoss repo.
No new homescreen icons will be added but there will be some settings to configure in the Settings.app
The settings to configure are; at what % it should alert you, whether you would like it to vibrate, and have sound.

LowPowerBanner has recently been updated to v 1.3.2 with multi-lingual support and bug fixes. In the last update the options in the Settings.app were added which has been quite useful since then. No Update: Hides Firmware Updates To Prevent From Future OTA Releases

Updates are the most amazing thing and everyone looks forward to update their iOS devices because with each software update their devices get better and better. But for people who jailbreak their devices wants to prevent from these updates so they can have a freedom to modify their devices as per liking. On the other hand, if your device is jailbroken and you have updated it accidentally, you cannot go back to their previous firmware unless you have saved SHSH blobs of your current firmware.

The fruit company has added a new software update feature in iOS 5 just to make Apple devices PC free, which means that users can update their devices over-the-air using their Wi-Fi networks. This is of course painful for people who jailbreak their devices, since they cannot jailbreak their devices once updated accidentally.

A new tweak called No Update has been developed by Greensnow in order to prevent from these accidental update. The basic function of the tweak includes hiding your iDevice from accessing the updates and displays an alert. In the newest version 1.4 the protection has been improved and includes a fix for the anotting badges on icons and settings.

No Update is available in the Cydia Store under the ModMyi repository for free. You can alternatively install this tweak by transferring and using SSH clients such as WinSCP for a Windows machine and Cyberduck for Mac OS X. No extra icon will be added on the homescreen or springboard but there are options to enable or disable in Settings.app.

SimpleHapticKeyboard Brings Haptic Feedback to iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch

When the iPad 3 was about to be launched there were rumors that it would be having a Haptic feedback on it. Haptic simply means that the device you are using gives some kind of sound, vibration etc as a confirmation that your command has been completed. But this rumor was not true as no Haptic feedback is currently present on the “The New iPad” or “iPad 3″.

But you can still get this Haptic feedback enabled on your iPhone, iPod touch, or on an iPad by downloading a newly released cydia tweak called SimpleHaptickKeyboard which is developed by Manuel Gebele, available on the Insanelyi repo for free (repository URL can be found at the end of this post).

SimpleHapticKeyboard is very smooth, fast and works like a charm. No user reported bugs have been found so far. There will be no additional icon on the homescreen or springboard, and there are no settings to configure at all. Developer is expected to add more features in future releases like adjusting the vibration level, changing the Haptic feedback type to sound as well as vibration. These features would make the tweak even better and easy to use.

Undoubtedly, SimpleHapticKeyboard is an amazing tweak to use, but there is another tweak available in the Cydia store that performs the same task as SimpleHapticKeyboard do. It’s called Haptic Pro which is developed by Ryan Petrich and is available in the ModMyi repo for $2.99. Haptic Pro includes advanced options like vibration on keyboard, vibration on app opening, and more. However, SimpleHapticKeyboard only have haptic feedback on virtual keyboard. This is a matter of preference only, if you’re interested in haptic feedback technology then you may want to spend $2.99 and get bunch of options.

You can download SimpleHapticKeyboard from the Cydia store under the Insanelyi repo for free. Since Insanelyi repo is not the default repository on Cydia you can add it manually by entering the following URL.

LongSlide for iPad is a cydia tweak by ravirajm aka Raviraj Minawala. This tweak is available for free on Cydia in the ModMyi repository. All you need is a jailbroken iPad which should be running iOS 5.0 or higher and you are ready to go. For information on how to jailbreak your iDevice look up this guide.

As the name of the tweak goes, it does pretty much that. LongSlide for iPad modifies your slider and makes it longer which looks better than the default one because the default one looks to small for the big screen and bit odd too.

How to install LongSlide on iPad 2 and iPad 1

Go to the BigBoss repository and search for LongSlide for iPad.
Install by tapping the install button on the upper right hand corner and then confirm your selection.
No new icons will be added to the homescreen or springboard, and there isn’t any setting to configure too.

Over all LongSlide for iPad works like a charm, no user reported bugs have been found so far, the only thing for concern is a minor issue. If we set a long sentence to substitute the default “Slide To Unlock” it only shows the characters that would be able to fit in the default one and the rest of the sentence would be hidden with a couple of dots despite the slider area being long. So don’t freak out if you get this issue. Hopefully, future updates will fix this issue and can also carry more helpful features like adjusting the length of the slider, slider direction etc.

Data Usage Monitor: Tracks Your 3G & Hotspot Data on iPhone

We all love using 3G/Edge on our iDevices when we are on the move. We use it to update our Facebook status, send tweets, listen to music on Spotify, and even more. But sometimes we forget how much data we have used and we end up finishing our limit in a matter of days. This happened to me once, and I had to pay an awful amount of money because I did not take care of my data plan.

But not anymore, because a new cydia tweak called Data Usage Monitor has been released in the Cydia store, which helps iDevice users to monitor their daily statistics of data downloaded/uploaded, so that people don’t have to pay too much money and they can keep a track on the amount of data downloaded. With this tweak you can also set limits on the amount of data downloaded and when the limit is reached you can decide whether to close the connection or show an alert message. It also shows the amount of data downloaded on the status bar when the connection is still on. This tweak is compatible with iOS 4.2+.

How To Install Data Usage Monitor

Navigate to Cydia store and look for Data Usage Monitor under the BigBoss repository. Tap and install the tweak.

In Settings.app, there will be option to enable the tweak, what to monitor, cellular data limit, cellular data usage, reset statistics, and cellular data usage (lifetime).

Notification Center is one the most useful feature that was added to iOS 5. I use it very extensively on my iPhone and have many widgets added to it. There are many widgets available for Notification Center like MusicCenter Widget, Custom NC Background, and more.

Today, a new tweak was added for the Notification Center in Cydia store. This one’s called OmniStat for NotificationCenter by Mathieu Bolard (mattlawer). It is a free tweak that is available in the BigBoss repository for free. This tweak was recently updated to 1.3.1 and added new features like re-spring, reboot, power off, kill background apps, bug fixes in toggles system, and changes in the UI.

It does an array of functions like showing device information which includes name, model, OS version, disk free space and also network data such as IP address, battery statistics, processes that are running and much more. This also performs many functions that SBSettings used to do like the toggles for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location Services and Airplane Mode. It also has the ability to turn 3G on/off, kill background applications, restart springboard, reboot and shutdown.

How To Install OmniStat

Go to the BigBoss Repo and look for OmniStat for NotificationCenter.
After installing, go to Settings -> Notifications and scroll till the end.
Look for Omni Stat Widget and select it. Switch on the Notification Center toggle, and you’re ready to use.

OmniStat for NotificationCenter is a recommended alternate of SBSettings as it will bring the similar features if not the same. No user reported bugs has been found so far and the tweak also works very smooth and fast.

WebSpot Replaces Your Spotlight Search With Web Page

Spotlight search is one of the best thing Apple has ever invented for quick searching. But a lot of people literally hate the spotlight search in iOS devices and most people have replaced it with other things like SpotTweet. I also don’t like the spotlight search since I don’t use it quite often and because I could not find anything else to fit there, so I kept the spotlight search as default. For those who don’t know, Spotlight Search is actually a quick option provided by the fruit company to search your whole device at a glance. The spotlight search was first introduced in Mac OS X.

Today, a new tweak called WebSpot developed by a Russian developer named Vladislav Korotnev has been released in Cydia store which can replace your default spotlight search with a web page. You can literally choose any web page you want to appear instead of spotlight search and make your spotlight search to be more like a web browser. Follow our easy steps below to find out how you can get WebSpot and how to configure it.

How to setup WebSpot

Install WebSpot from the BigBoss repo for free.
No Homescreen icons would be added, but there would be options to configure in the Settings.app
Go to your Settings and find WebSpot.
Inside WebSpot settings you would see Web-URL, Autoreload, Show toolbar and Show Address Bar.
Go and enter the URL with which you want to replace the spotlight search.
Also enable toolbar which is very essential as it lets you go back and forward in your Web-Page, You can also enable Address Bar if you want, it will let you change the site you are currently accessing and you would be able to use it as full fledged Safari.
Now you are done and ready to use WebSpot.

Please note that WebSpot was recently updated by developer and he has added a lot of new features that were not present before like the auto-reload, toolbar and address bar. Ever since Apple has released it’s first generation iPhone by reinventing the phenomenon of smart phones. The security experts are continuously working to get the root access of the iOS software, so everyone can have freedom to use the device how ever they want to. Developers are also playing their parts by developing codes that can tweak the device operating system in order to get full root access and they called it Tweaks. These snippets of codes commonly known as tweaks can be installed in two ways. The easiest way to install these tweaks is to find a package on Cydia which is an application for installing debian packages, or by SSHing your device. The second method is primarily recommended for advance users or for those who have good knowledge about Apple devices and their operating system.

Since a lot of developers prefer Cydia to distribute their tweaks and themes, giant repositories are continuously working to deliver what consumers and developers are demanding. Almost every day, there are several themes and tweaks which either gets updated or released in the changes tab of Cydia app.

Even today we’re discussing a tweak called DockHide by PathKiller29, which allows users to simply hide or unhide the dock icons using the activator gestures. If you’re a Macintosh user, you may be familiar with dock and how you can manage it. But due to the screen size of iOS devices, the fruit company has not given a lot of options to customise your iOS device dock.

DockHide is an addition to your likings, if you’re bored with your springboard dock or if you want to get rid of it, you can get the hidden dock back anytime by using the same gesture you have selected to hide it.

Few things to mention before you actually decide to get this tweak are; even if the tweak hides your dock from the springboard you will not be able to get the additional icons, but instead it will convert your bottom four icons into the dock. Mathematically, you get 16 icons on the springboard excluding dock and 20 icons including the dock. If you will use the hide feature of this tweak with the help of gestures, you will be able to see 16 icons only.

Awesome Music Controller Controls Your iPod Music With Built-In Notifications And More

While listening to songs on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you may have face the problem of changing songs by tapping the home button and then changing the song. Well this problem is now over, thanks to a new tweak being released in the Cydia store.

This tweak is called Awesome Music Controller by DrComputerIT and is available on the BigBoss for just $0.99 and for that price tag it is a very good buy. This application works on all devices that have been jailbroken on iOS 5.0 and higher. Awesome Music Controller displays a music note on the clock and helps you change the song by tapping this instead of the home-button. This is great for users who have a broken home-button (just saying =p).

In short, Awesome Music Controller Play/Change songs without using the home button. When this tweak is installed a new setting can be found in the Settings.app to configure. In Settings.app you will see that AwesomeMCSettings has been added which will give you the option to enable the music note or disable it.

Additionally, Awesome Music Controller recently got updated to 1.0.0-28 which fixes many bugs and enhanced the now playing notification banner which looks similar to the missed call and message alerts. While using your iPhone or any other Apple device you can also change songs using this now playing banner.

*NOTE: For this tweak to work you need to have Music.app opened in the background.
