It has been awhile since I have done a review, life has thrown things at me the last few months that I am just now starting to come around from. Enough of me, let’s get to this review.

The oils on the wrapper of this stick glisten in the sunlight. It is really rolled beautifully and smells of earth and strong spice. The burn was next to perfect as the smoke cloud produces a milky white glow in the air. Flavors of earth, spice, and leather are easily detectable on the palate.

The last third gives way to flavors of toffee and more earth to round out the smoking experience. I would most definitely recommend this smoke as a great way to end a long day with a nice scotch or bourbon.

This cigar is one of my all time favorites so it’s about time I did a review on it. The Padilla signature 1932 is a wonderful cigar with a ton of flavor and strength. From the Corojo wrapper to the complex aroma and flavors of the filler and binder this cigar certainly satisfies.

I know most of you that read ITH are used to me posting cigar reviews and mainly just that. Today I wanted to talk a little bit about wine pairing with cigars and what you guys smoke with.

I enjoy many different wines, mostly reds but a lot of french wine and Italian wines. Australian wines are starting to grow on me as well. I think a nice Cab or Merlot go pretty decently with a full bodied cigar. Even the softer wines like Pinot Noir and Syrah go nicely with a mild to medium cigar selection. A good friend of mine lived in France for some years and is a great source of knowledge for me when it comes to the many different selections.

A local liquor store is a wine mecca with different rooms for different countries. It is the most wine I have ever seen in one place. One could get lost in there with the different offerings from Spain, Italy, France, America and many more. I have been thinking about doing some wine reviews for you guys to read along with a cigar that I paired with it. If you have any favorites or would like to see something reviewed please leave a comment.

I believe that the wine and cigar worlds have more in common than most of us realize. Both get better with age, both can be very pricey and are luxury items. They are crafted by hand by some very skilled growers and blenders who take a lot of pride in what they do. Grapes are grown in vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, which is the same for tobacco fields. Just thinking about how much effort and work goes into making these products makes me appreciate them more.

So pop that cork and light up that cigar, let’s relax together!

Camacho has had the annual release of the liberty for some years now. I had yet to try one until I got my hands on this one. The cigar comes in a very nice cedar coffin and dressed with tissue paper and numbered out of 40,000. The cigar smells great with hay and cedar notes.

Initial light up was of some faint caramel and more cedar. The cigar was smoking nice until the second third and the burn was getting horrible. I expected a smooth even burn from a cigar in this price range but that’s not what i got. The flavors started to fade away as i got into the last 3rd of this smoke. Towards the end I was getting a bitter taste and it was burning hot.

The cigar is fine for an everyday smoke if the price range wasn’t outrageous, but a smoke like this and the presentation offered should have revealed a much better smoking experience. I would not recommend this smoke for the price. If it was a $6-$7.00 smoke I would probably buy a couple.

I saw these on a Joe Cigar special and was intrigued by the look vs the price. I thought 10 sticks looking this good for $29.99? I had to pull the trigger. I had already known the Gran Habano line and loved the Corojo #5, so I was looking forward to trying this cigar.

I pulled the stick out of the humidor and admired the excellent construction. A smooth, medium brown wrapper and a perfect roll, size and shape. I clipped the cap at a slight angle, using a double guillotine. I took a dry draw tasting a grainy flavor. I used my Lotus torch and took my first puff. The smoke was thick and the aroma rich and a taste with a creamy, earthy nuances. The burn was even and staying even. Half way through the first third was a slight hint of white pepper. The ash was holding nicely with a light gray color and several spaced rings. Any uneven burn, self corrected quickly.

I started into the second third and started noticing a slight coffee flavor and a leathery grain coming out. The ash hung on over two inches before falling. A slight uneven burn, but again correcting itself.

I arrived at the last third and it had become a calliope of flavors. Earthy, leathery, grainy, peppery and now it had a slight hint of coffee and chocolate. The second ash was so sturdy, that it held on over three inches, and was able to support an ash stand. The finish was tasty and smooth.

In conclusion: This stick took over an hour and a half to smoke. This was a complex and enjoyable cigar well worth the money. Smooth, well rolled and blended. This cigar is definitely worth trying.
