The doorway

She goes searching
through the forest and meadows
for the self she left behind
during the storms and floods
of yesteryear...
and during the times her choices
led her astray
so long ago...

along the twists and turns
her journey takes her
to a columned room
with an ornate doorway...

When opened, there lies
only a box of memories.
After pausing for a moment
to look at its contents,
She takes it with her,
along with her hopes and dreams,
and chooses to continue along her path
knowing that her past has molded her present,
and that the self that was is no more.

It can never be found,
because it is an ever- evolving spirit
that continues to grow and evolve
with her, every passing day.

Beyond the barriers of time,
Across foreign and domestic lands,
During times of melancholy and ecstasy,
lies a healing energy within us all,
that we call ... Joy.

It is easily accessed
by those with grateful, loving hearts
and is ours for the taking if we choose.

May we all choose each day
to partake of its wonderful delight,
share it with others,
and remain in its presence.

Even when the days are sullen and long,
Even when the brutality of this world
offends our kind, peaceful spirits...
Let us all trust that Joy can still be found
and let our zest for life continue to remain unwavered.

Hero

It was not his upbringing,
It was not where he was from,
It was not the money he had in the bank,
It was not what he looked like ...
that was of no importance
to those whom he had helped.

It was the contents of his heart,
It was his independant, unique, free spirit,
It was his lovingingly kind character,
It was his way of being comfortable in his own skin,
It was his genuine sencerity
that gave them hope that their normal
will change to something more beautiful.

It was his lessson to them
that being who they are
is the most beautiful thing to be
that mattered to them, and
that gave them clarity and strength
to listen to thier heart rather then the masses.

It is that they honored in him .
It was that which changed their inner and outer normal
to something that was a beauty to behold
and it is for that reason they erected the monument for him...
so they may always remember the beauty within
and to share it with those all around them.

Butterfly Dreams

thosands of fluttering buterflys
fly above the gated stone wall,
the bubling water fountain,
thru a hole in the thached roof
into a room where the marble hearth
was filled with a roaring fire,
into the dreams of a maiden
that lay near by asleep
after groping with the answers
to her life's quest.

Once they flew in,
they began rebuilding her hope,
breathing new life into her Spirit,
and filling her thoughts with love.

Before the dawn,
a flash of joy touched her heart
and her forgotton smile reappeared on her lips

waiting for a new life to begin,
waiting for my heart to stop bleeding red
from the anger, the sadness
his indifference and betrayal brought.

waiting for the train's whistle to roar
as the red roses of our old love wilt away.
waiting for a divine light to heal
the bitter taste of divorce.

waiting to hear a new rythem, a new song,
waiting for my feet to follow
in tune to the music my new life is singing.
until then, I stand waiting for the train.

drifting dreams

Dreams drift in the wind.
Stiches of memories
of friends lost and found
form in her mind
as she stops to view letters
shoveled into a box of sweaters and yarn.
Her life isn't what she expected it to be
when she was a child dancing in her granfather's plum farm
and blowing bubbles into the air
but she knew there are still more adventures that await her
and her journey has just begun.

The promises you said you would keep
lie shattered in the wind.

How many more lies you've told
that still lay unearthed - I do not know-
but the trust I had in you has shattered.

The way I see you is no longer the same.
It will remain changed forever.
The dusty craked lense has been replaced.
I see you as you really are
- through a lense that is clear and new...
and who I see I no longer recognize.

Was she the reason you built the wall
around your heart so high I couldn't climb over it?
Was it she?

Or was it the passing tides of time,
the agony of my infertility ,
the uncertainty of my illness,
or simply the differences of our personalities?

What was it that made you decide to create a life for us
that only you wanted to live and asked of me to come along
instead of one we both were happy living in?
Was it out of pure indifference
or was it just another way of pushing me further away?

What was the reason that you no longer wished to compromise
but instead to do as you please?

What took you so far away
that you forgot your way home to me?

What was the reason you left me
in the cold to sleep alone?

I had no choice but to walk away
in the rain.
With dreams of a better tommorow I go,
but still I wonder...
Was it she or was it us?

Magpie Tales prompt : mag 90

"More" , she sighed, as she read the tombstone.

The word seemed to pierce into her heart, reigniting the light within.

The shell of the life she was living was revealed to her.

"More" - the word emitted promise in the air, dappling her delirium with one swish,

as she daydreamed of dancing, laughing, pleated skirt swaying...

She decided not to be the shell of the person she had been.

The strident pitch of her misgivings suddenly silenced, she asks herself -

"Who are you?"," Where ar you going with your life?" and with the reply came a smile.

7 things about me :

1) My favorite things to do are write, read, hike, dance, go to the beach, take pictures, spend time with the people I love, travel abroad , go road tripping, horseback riding ... but don't always have the time to do so - wish I did.

2) Even at 35, I still look up to my brother.

3) I know I have made many mistakes in my lifetime, but am still glad for the lessons that they have given me. Just hope I don't have to learn them again anytime soon.

4) My father will always remain my favorite dance partner, my mother will always be my favorite person to have coffee with in the morning, and I will always consider my best friend as my sister.

5) I love to sing even though I can't hold a tune so I keep singing - just not in earshot of anyone.

6) Would love to go on a global volunteer trip every year. Have yet to go on one but am hoping to go soon. Think my first one will be with Global Volunteer Network.

7) Do also hope to write books - fiction and poetry. Its one of the many things on my bucket list that I hope to accomplish.

Flight with Unicorns

She lies on the hammock,
adapting to the swinging motion,
and is lulled to sleep.

Her dreams glide her to a place
where there are no obstacles
to our imagination,
where all is possible
and where love reigns in all.

It is in this place
she rides on a unicorn
that is flying with his family
and with his friends,
the eagles, at sunrise.

While in flight,
there is a knowing in her heart
that the shadowed place
she was living in is no more,
that her new beginning
will be filled with
whimsy, creativity, loving kindness,
and adventure.

This knowingness stays with her
when she wakes
and helps her begin her new life
with courage.

The Choice

It wasn't the taste of Eve's apple
lingering in his mouth
that brought him to his decision
nor was it the idealism of his youth
-it was love.

His love of adventure,
his love of people,
his desire to help others in need
all led to his choice
to go on that fateful trip to Africa
with his fellow classmates.

On that trip,
he realized it was time
to say goodbye to his old ways
because in his heart
there was a stirring
of new and endearing ways of being.
His life, he decided,
will be one of service
and so it was.

Lifeboats

on lifeboats floating in the moon light
filled with people,
desperation heightens,
slouched strangers become friends,
hearts of granite
are cleansed and transformed.

They watch
the screws of the cheap wood
spin into the air,
while the ship goes down
and turns to ash.

Their new obsesion -survival.
Their new revolution - hope.

Once on land,
their gratitude is immense,
their wasted days spend in ocean waters is
a lesson for all on the power of hope and faith.

as he led processions

of all those who saw him.

Gandhi once said:
"An eye for an eye
will make the whole world
go blind."

So let us pledge to take the path
of love and peace,
when voicing our discontent
in the world's troubles as Gandhi did.

Let us tread
in sacred waters
enmesh with faith.

The tremor
of sporadic seditious rioting
hinders our peace
and only lead to a nether world
of chaos.

Let us not have that stigma
of hate on our breath.
Let us breathe words of love instead.

Let us plaster words of peace
on the walls and not of war.

Like the tufts of grass and wildflowers
that grow in the cracks of cement,
let us believe that something beautiful
will grow out of these turbulent times.

Let us see this world as the peaceful place it could be
and take actions towards that dream,
and let us not be blind to all that need our help.
