Protest Hits Sokoto As Residents Requests That Goodluck Jonathan Comes Back

Former president, Goodluck Jonathan received a hero’s welcome when he visited Sokoto state to pay a condolence visit to the family of Ibrahim Dasuki. The former president visited the family of the late Sultan on Thursday, November 17. The former Sultan who is also the father to former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, died on Monday, November 14, evening at the National Hospital in Abuja. Jonathan had earlier sent a condolence message and followed it up with a visit. In what might be considered an unexpected reception, Sokoto youths carried placards hailing Jonathan and asking him to come back as president. Although they were kept at bay by security details, the youths kept on chanting songs in honour of the former president. Taiwo Obasanjo Says Her New Party Will Turn Nigeria Around

Taiwo Obasanjo, the former wife of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has promised that her new political party will bring solution to problems bedevilling Nigerians. Taiwo had earlier announced that God had directed her to form a new party, Abundant Blessing Congress and that the party would take the country to another level. She insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari was not the problem with Nigeria but his party, the All Progressives Congress.

She said: “If you ask me, Muhammadu Buhari is a man I have utmost respect and affection for. He is unique, absolutely honest and plain. He’s disciplined and organised. If he’s there, he is. If he is not there, he’s not. For a man like that, people may not appreciate him. I have realised the politics that God gave this man. Buhari is not really the problem of Nigeria. He is not the reason Nigerians are suffering. The problem of Nigeria is the party, All Progressives Congress, APC. God only used APC to bring him up as president.”

Taiwo Obasanjo “God has decided that it is Abundant Blessing Congress, ABC, that would provide the solution needed in this country. We are to go round and join forces as a family to fashion out solutions to Nigeria’s many problems. “They are Nigerians who are very interested in the project, who believe that we can do it. But Nigerians should know what we are up to. It is not just to grab power or to remove APC. We are the party to offer solutions to the problems of Nigerians and we are not leaving it for one man to handle. The problem in Nigeria today is not Buhari. The problem is the APC.” Taiwo noted that there was abundant problem in the country but her party would be a sort of cleansing and make the country better. “There is abundant suffering in the land, there is abundant lack, there is abundant hunger, there is abundant joblessness, and abundant homelessness. So, we bring the people abundant blessing and the name of the party is Abundant Blessing Congress with a mission to counter all these abundant problems. Olusegun Obasanjo “In the midst of all these problems, God wants to bring up abundant blessing. That is the meaning of Abundant Blessing Congress. God has deposited everything here in Nigeria. There is no part of Nigeria that you cannot find mineral resources that can fetch us fortunes. “It is not only in the Niger Delta region that good things are deposited. There is abundant mineral resources in other parts of Nigeria but they are not being exploited enough. So, with Abundant Blessing Congress, God is going to turn things around for Nigeria.” The former wife of Obasanjo said the problem of insurgency and the agitation for Biafra was due to the suffering in the country and promised that all these will be addressed by ABC.

“There is a virus eating up Nigeria and virus has to be applied into this virus to work out a solution. The solution for everything is not with one man. It is for everybody to come together to decide with one purpose. We have to come together and discuss these issues, this virus in the system. Even the president of Nigeria does not have the answer. The answer is with God and with our collective force as a people. When the people come together to decide what they want, then, the solution will come.

“All these Niger Delta Avengers, Biafra agitators, Boko Haram insurgents are all suffering and they feel that somehow, they have been marginalised. So, when we come together and talk among ourselves, then, the solution will come. If water is gushing out from an unlikely source, the governor cannot see it, the president cannot see it. Even the local government chairman cannot see it. But the local people will see it and point it out. So, its all about the people. And that is why what I’m doing is people oriented. It’s the peoples party. It’s not the kind of party where the governor or people who are in elective positions will dare alienate themselves from the people.”

Samsung In Panic After 'New' Phone Catches Fire On A Plane

A US flight was evacuated prior to takeoff when a passenger’s Galaxy Note 7 — reportedly a replacement in Samsung’s global recall — caught fire, landing the company in new controversy.

Samsung has been struggling with a recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 handsets due to complaints of exploding batteries, a problem the replacement phones are supposed to fix.

But on Wednesday, a Southwest Airlines flight leaving Louisville, Kentucky was evacuated after a passenger’s new Samsung phone began emitting smoke.

Brian Green, the owner, said that the phone was a replacement, which he picked up on September 21. He also provided a picture of its box, which has a black square symbol indicating that it was a replacement, some 60 percent of US consumers had swapped their devices for replacements by the end of last month.

Southwest Airlines flight 994 from Louisville to Baltimore was evacuated this morning while still at the gate because of a smoking Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. All passengers and crew exited the plane via the main cabin door and no injuries were reported, a Southwest Airlines spokesperson told The Verge.

More worrisome is the fact that the phone in question was a replacement Galaxy Note 7, one that was deemed to be safe by Samsung. The Verge spoke to Brian Green, owner of the Note 7, on the phone earlier today and he confirmed that he had picked up the new phone at an AT&T store on September 21st.

Green said that he had powered down the phone as requested by the flight crew and put it in his pocket when it began smoking. He dropped it on the floor of the plane and a “thick grey-green angry smoke” was pouring out of the device. Green’s colleague went back onto the plane to retrieve some personal belongings and said that the phone had burned through the carpet and scorched the subfloor of the plane.

He said the phone was at around 80 percent of battery capacity when the incident occurred and that he only used a wireless charger since receiving the device.

Samsung is likely in full-fledged crisis mode at this point, as a replacement phone catching fire would be truly disastrous for the company’s image and finances.

The Verge reported Green had powered down the phone for takeoff, an account The New York Times confirmed through other eyewitnesses.

The heat damage from the apparent explosion was so severe that a fire official could not independently verify the model of the phone, according to ABC News.

The unprecedented recall, the first involving Samsung’s flagship smartphone, has struck a blow to the reputation of the South Korean electronics giant, the world’s largest smartphone maker.

Meanwhile the recall could cost the firm $3 billion in the long run, some analysts say, with ever-fiercer competition, Samsung is desperate to avoid a full-blown disaster that could hammer its reputation.

KOGA CEO, Chris Jeyibo Involved In A Ghastly Motor Accident

The CEO of Koga Entertainment, Chris Jeyibo, died on Friday morning in an auto crash.

It was learnt that the crash occurred at about 1 am at the Magodo axis of Lagos while he was returning home.

Photographs of the accident showed that his white Range Rover ran into stationary trailer, leaving him dead on the spot.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed his death via its official Twitter account, @LASEMA Response Unit: “A Range Rover SUV ran into a parked trailer at 1am along Lagos/Ibadan express way. One casualty.”

Until his demise, Jeyibo was the Chairman of Koga Entertainment which has subsidiaries including Koga Xtra TV, Koga Studios, KICL Clothing, Koga Lounge, Koga Hall and Koga Records.

He was also a filmmaker.

Clinton Gets 5-Point Lead On Rival Donald Trump

Chicagoans are not too happy with Donald Trump’s portrayal of their home town.

Elected leaders in the third largest US city are trying to show their displeasure by taking down an honorary “Trump Plaza” street sign in front of the businessman’s Chicago skyscraper.

In the first presidential debate, on September 26, the Republican nominee brought up the thousands of shootings recorded in Chicago and asked, “Where is this? Is this a war-torn country? What are we doing?”

There have in fact been 3,324 shooting victims in the city so far this year, according to data compiled by the Chicago Tribune, and 568 murders.

The city, President Barack Obama’s home town, has the worst violent crime statistics of any major American metropolis.

But it is also home to vibrant tourism, shimmering skyscrapers — including Trump’s own glass and steel tower housing a hotel and condominiums — and one of the most striking waterfronts in the country.

Local officials have bristled at comparisons to war zones.

“His decision to drag us into this campaign and… paint a very distorted caricature of Chicago is a mistake,” said Brendan Reilly, a city council member and the architect of the sign removal effort, which now has the support of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, a prominent Democrat and former chief of staff to Obama.

“We’ll put the sign back up when he releases his tax returns,” Emanuel quipped at a news conference this week, ribbing at Trump’s refusal to disclose those documents.
