It is about 270 km away from Dhaka by road. This quadrangular structure consists of 177 cells. From excavation at Paharpur some seals are founded, these seals has proved that the Somapuri Mahavihara was built by second Pala King Dharmapala of Pala density. There is a traditional Buddhist stupa in the center of the Vihara. The rooms of the Vihara are used by the monks for accommodation and meditation.
The Mahavihara covers an area of 27 acres. The architecture of the Vihara is dominated by a temple, not by the characterstics of Indian temple architecture, but by the Buddhist temple of Burma, Java, Combodia. It is said that the plan of the Mahavihara is afforded by the temple Chandi Loro Jongrang, Chandi Shevu, Prambanam.
Every year a lot of visitors come here and see the remarkable historical Vihara and know about it. It has been declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1985. If any one want to visit here staying Dhaka then they should first come Bogra to visit Mahasthangar then here. Paharpur is about 68 km from Bogra. To day the capital city of Dhaka is named after Dhakeshwari Goddess. The original 800 years old statue was damaged severely during liberatin war in 1971 bu Pakistani Army. Then the templw was further damaged during the riots of 1989/1990. So frequent repairs and renovations were taken place on the temple. As a result there is no similarity between current style of the architecture of the temple and its original architecture . Many researches say that the temple is one of the Shakti Peethas, where the crown of the Goddess has fallen. The temple is a cultural heritage of Dhaka city as well as the Bangladesh. There are four identical structures devoted to Lord Shiva inside the temple. Every year large celebration of Durga Puja is held here with daily prayer. Concerts and charity drives are also regular activity of the temple. In order to build the monument a national design competition was held in June, 1978 and among fifty seven proposal, the proposal of Syed Mainul Hossain was selected.

The monument is composed of 7 isosceles triangular pyramid shape structures, with the middle one being high and reaches 150 feet. Each 7 isosceles triangular pyramid shape structures varying in size in its height and base. The height one has the smallest base while the broadcast base has the smallest height. The plans are folded at the middle and placed one after another. The structure gives the memorial a unique characteristics and that is it changes its configuration when viewed from different angles. Concrete has been used for the construction of the monument while red bricks are used for the construction of the pavement in front the complex and other structures. This combination gives an enormity to the monument. Several mass-graves and pool of water body are placed in front of the complex. This also gives an unblamable majesty to the monument.
It is situated in Dhaka near Dhaka medical college hospital and Dhaka University area. It is adjacent to the mathematics discipline of Dhaka University. Bangladesh is the only country who shed their blood due to their mother language. When the Pakistani government decided that Urdu will be the State language of Pakistan then the people of East Pakistan devoted their life for Bengali. On 21 February many Bengali were killed when Pakistani Army opened a fire on the rally of Bengali. From that year the Bengali nation commemorate this day with honor.
The establishment started from 22 February and was established by a person, namely Pearu Sarder. This monument was inaugurated by the father of Shofiur Rahman, a martyr of language movement day. A number of monuments of the same model were also established at different places of the country. But the monument was destroyed by the Pak-Army within a few days. After that in 1956 a decision was taken to establish a new monument. Famous architect Hamidur Rahman created the design of the new monument. His design includes a half circle column symbolizing a mother with her fallen children. Finally the construction work started on November, 1957 under the supervision of Hamidur Rahman and Novera Ahmed. This construction was completed on 1963 and was inaugurated by the mother of Abul Barkat. This monument was also ruined by Pak-Military during liberation war.
