Chinese workers unearth 700-year-old mummy

Road workers in China have unearthed a wooden coffin containing a 700-year-old mummy.

The mummy and two other wooden tombs were found 2m underground during a road expansion in Taizhou city in Jiangsu Province last month, the Daily Mail reports.

Chinese archeologists who opened the coffin were surprised to find the mummy, which was immersed in a brown liquid, was very well-preserved.

Her features from her head to her shoes, including her eyebrows, eyelashes and face, had not deteriorated.

Some of the skin on the mummy's hands and a ring on her finger were still intact.

Ceramics, ancient writings and other relics were also buried in the coffin.

The mummy was wearing clothes made mostly from silk and cotton, which suggests she was a high-ranking member of the Ming dynasty, archeologists said.

Silk and cotton are hard to preserve and the mummification process would have been sophisticated, according to Wang Weiyin, the director of the Taizhou museum.

Only a high-ranking member of society would have been preserved in this way, Weiyin said.

The Ming Dynasty, from 1368 to 1644, was a period in China's history they were prospering economically and opening up to the West.

ARE SODA CANS DANGEROUS

noreply@blogger.com (Athul Krishnan) — Wed, 25 May 2011 05:53:00 +0000

WASH THEM FIRST

This is Serious! This incident happened recently in North Texas .
A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday.

The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis.

Rat urine contains toxic and deathly substances... It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of all soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of all soda cans are more contaminated than public toilets (i.e).. full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident.
