The screenings were sponsored by Big Dog Tattoos of Mt. Pleasant. 'The Kim' was on hand to give away t-shirts and merchandise gift certificates. I do think, however, that the temporary Indelible tattoos were the biggest hit.

My congrats to the festival organizers. I heard attendance was up this year and everything ran very smoothly. I really appreciated the opportunity to sell merchandise. CRIFF ran a table that allowed all the filmmakers to promote their products. Very cool. They also had great displays by Cinequipt and Frame Forge 3D Studio 2.

One of the best parts for me, other than screening the film and meeting the audience, was the opportunity to see other people's films and meet the artists. People like Ty Clancey, Ben Hill, Travis Schott and Josh Guffey. One of the best films I saw was a scary short entitled The Rebirth of Lucretia by Robert Monson. It was a very hauntingly beautiful film. And of course the Blue Box boys were in attendance with their film The Bride Wore Blood.

All in all it was a great event and I am proud that Indelible was a part of it.
Subscribe in a reader

CRIFF Screening

I'm getting very excited about the upcoming screenings at the 2007 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival. Indelible will be screening on Friday, April 13th at 8:10 pm and on Saturday, April 14th at 10:45 am. I'll be there to give an intro to the film as well as sell t-shirts, posters, DVDs and more.

I went to CR yesterday to do some publicity for the festival. I had a chance to meet Ben Hill and Josh Guffey who also have projects in the festival. Festival diector Scott Chrisman was there as well as Collins Road Theater owner Bruce. It's a great venue and promises to be an exciting festival. We did a photo shoot for the Cedar Rapids Gazette and I also did an interview with the Iowa Traveller Cary J. Haan for the CBS affiliate.

I'm really excited about our new sponsor for the CRIFF screenings. Big Dog Tattoos of Mt. I'm here with Screenscape working on a sales expo show for Aviva (a big insurance company). Nick Wilson and I shot some chroma key interviews, cut them and composited them over a stylized white background. We used the DVX 100B for shooting at 30P and cut with Final Cut Studio on a couple of G4 Powerbooks. After some discussion I decided we would use the dvMatte plug-in to do the keying and it worked pretty well for the most part. We had a couple of people that were very tough to key to do hair or shirt color issues. If anyone has questions about our process, send me an email.

The reason I tell this story is because I wish I were in Park City this week instead of dreary Fort Worth. Don't get me wrong, downtown Ft. Worth is very cool, scenic fill with shops, resturants and bars. I, however, haven't been able to enjoy any of it. I started visiting the Fest Mob site which seems to be a very cool way to experience Sundance vicariously though those who are there. Check it out at http://www.workbookproject.com/mob/. People are leaving text messages, voice messages, cell phone vids and photos. You can subscribe to the RSS feed and stay abreast of all new posts. Speaking of Sundance, a shout out to my friend Jendra Jarnagin whose in Park City this week. Hope you're having a great time.

Anyway, wish us luck getting home tomorrow as it will be snowing in Des Moines. Maybe someday I will get back to Ft. Worth when it isn't raining.
Subscribe in a reader

Positive Reviews

So last night we had a private screening to celebrate the completion of the film. There were around 220 people in attendance and the buzz in the room was electric. The event was held at the Fleur Cinema and Cafe and they did a great job of hosting. Several of the cast, crew and investors were in attendance and everyone seemed genuinely happy with the final product.

Here are some of the comments I've received so far:

"The direction was good, as far as I can tell. I'm not real into film. A couple things stood out: I like your angles on some shots... the shot of Grace's tennis shoes as she creeps back into the trailer was as great idea, and the shot from inside the wardrobe in the warehouse stood out. The angle from inside the tattoo parlor was cool."
-Scott Cochran

"Say, just wanted to say again what a nice job you and Rick did with that movie...truly impressive, especially knowing it wasn't on film! Looked great up there on the screen. Thanks for the kind use of our music...it was fun to hear it under the visuals. But I have to say, use of WMC's Staking Their Claim and Feel the Sun over the end credits was truly powerful. That scene under Staking Their Claim was really nicely edited and very cool."
-Chad O'Neall

RICK,
GREAT JOB ON THE MOVIE. I WIRE HOUSES EVERY WEEK, YOU JUST WIRED THE PRINCIPAL BUILDING! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
SINCERELY,
JON AND STEPHANIE BECK

Thanks to everyone who attended and feel free to leave your thoughts here as well. A big thank you to Carey and Cindy Buchanan for helping sell t-shirts and posters. If you need to order any t-shirts or posters just send an email to rick@bravoromeo.com and let me know what you need. Men's shirts are $15, women's shirts are $20, 27" x 40" posters are $40 and 11" x 17" posters are $5.

I had a chance to interview John Gholson on Monday for the next Indelible podcast so be sure to check that out. If you get a chance, head to the iTunes Music Store and write a review of the show.

We heard from the Toronto Film Fest and unfortunately you don't need to book any plane tickets to Toronto. Toronto is a huge festival and while it would have been a big boost to the film to attend, it was always a big goal. There are, of course, still several festivals and we'll get in one before too long.

Again, I encourage you to post comments on this blog so we can make it a very inter-active site. Let me hear from you with questions, comments, what you're working on, whatever. I look forward to reading your comments.
Subscribe in a reader

Passing of a friend

Friday, June 30th marked a sad day as we in the film industry lost a close friend in Roland Schlotshauer. Ro was a DP and owned a camera rental company in Kansas City and worked with us in Des Moines for years. He died in a helicopter accident while shooting for the film The Final Season. Yesterday, several of us from Screenscape Studios and Des Moines attended his memorial service in Kansas City. We will miss Ro very much as he was a good shooter, teacher and friend.
Subscribe in a reader

Hello July!

July is here and brings some great things for Indelible. First, there is a new podcast available. If you don't subscribe through iTunes, you can find it at www.bravoromeo.com. Charlie Matthes joins me on this episode and we have a great time talking about acting, directing, moving and more. Give it a listen then give me some feed back.

Second, we have some new people on the Indelible crew. Dave Albert from Lakeview Audio is helping with the final audio mix. I worked with him on The Iowa Experience for the Iowa Hall of Pride and I'm glad to have his ear on this film. We've been busy testing OMF files and getting the project set up in his studio and I think he's ready to move full steam ahead.

Also new to the team is public relations expert Kelly Moore. I've been very impressed with Kelly's ability to get up to speed on not only our film but the film industry. She's got great ideas to help beef up the press kit and generate buzz when we get into a festival. You can learn more about her at www.kellymooreconsulting.com.

Indelible was entered into 2 festivals last week. AFI Fest 2006 in Los Angeles and the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado. Both of these festivals would be huge for us so keep your fingers crossed. AFI Fest has 2 big things going for it. First, they really promote first and second time directors, so that helps us. Second, they have a partnership with the American Film Market which is the largest film market in the US and helps elevate the chance for a sale. Telluride is, of course, a very prestigious festival that concentrates on the art of filmmaking more than the business. That being said, a premiere there would be big.

That's it for today. If I get time later, I'll post a segment on the technical side of exporting OMF files from Final Cut. Very interesting if you're into the tech side of film making.
Subscribe in a reader

New website, new blog!

Hey everyone. I'm starting a new blog for Indelible. As the website evolves, this is going to be the best way for me to give you my updates and insights into the film. Please be patient while the website is under construction. As you can tell from the new splash page, it is going to be very cool.

The biggest news for far is that the film has been entered into the Toronto International Film Festival.
