Rosemont, Illinois- Tuesday night, the Lincoln Saltdogs began a six-game road trip with the first game of a three-game series at the Chicago Dogs. Lincoln attempted to rally, trailing by four going into the top of the ninth, however, came up short, 8-7, at Impact Field.

Chicago (9-13) snapped a five-game losing streak by scoring eight runs, with ten hits, committed two errors, and left six runners on base. Lincoln (8-15) had its three-game winning streak halted after scoring seven runs, off eleven hits, committed two errors and stranded eight base runners.

The Dogs started the scoring in the bottom of the first. Facing Lincoln starter Foster Pace, Gio DiGiacomo hit the first pitch of the game from Pace over the right-center field wall for a solo home run, to make it 1-0.

Chicago extended the lead in the bottom of the second. Jaxx Groshans led off the inning with a double. Then, Daniel Harris singled, scoring Groshans, to make it a 2-0 Chicago lead.

The Saltdogs were able to tie the score in the top of the third. Facing Chicago starter Andres Diaz, Paul Myro reached on a throwing error. Three batters later, Cary Arbolida hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, to tie the score at 2-2.

The Dogs responded, however, by plating three in the bottom of the third. Gio DiGiacomo led off the inning with a walk. Then, Ethan Wilder singled. Jacob Maiben laid down a sacrifice bunt to push the runners to second and third. Then Tyreque Reed hit a two-rbi single, to make it 4-2. After Jaxx Groshans walked, then Daniel Harris singled, scoring Reed, to make it a 5-2 Chicago lead.

Lincoln battled back in the top of the fourth. Jairo Pomares led off with a double. Three batters later, Calyn Halvorson hit his first home run of the year, a two-run shot, to make the score, 5-4.

Chicago would grab those two runs back, immediately, in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Torniero led off the inning with a single. Two batters later Ethan Wilder tripled, scoring Torniero, to make it 6-4. Then, Jacob Maiben singled, driving in Wilder, to make it a 7-4, Chicago lead.

The Dogs added another run in the bottom of the seventh. Facing Lincoln reliever Chandler Woolridge, Jacob Maiben led off the inning with a walk. He stole second and took third on an errant throw. Two batters later, Jaxx Groshans hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Maiben, to make it 8-4.

The Saltdogs had one last shot in the top of the ninth, trailing 8-4. Facing Chicago reliever Jacob DeLabio, Calyn Halvorson led off the inning by reaching on an error. Then, Paul Myro singled. Connor Bagnieski pinch-hit for Lincoln and delivered an RBI double to the center field wall, to make it 8-5. Then, Nick Shumpert singled, driving in Myro and Bagnieski, to make it 8-7. DeLabio struck out the next two batters before Jairo Pomares drew a walk, putting runners at first and second. Then, Tanner O’ Tremba struck out swinging; however, he advanced to first on a wild pitch, which loaded the bases. The threat ended when DeLabio got Cael Chatham to bounce out to first base, to end the game.

Chicago starter Andres Diaz (3-2) earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings, giving up four runs, off seven hits, struck out six, and walked one. Will Marriott worked 2.0 innings, yielding one hit, struck out two, and walked one. Jacob DeLabio pitched 1.0 inning, giving up three unearned runs, off three hits, struck out two and walked one.

Lincoln starting pitcher Foster Pace (0-2) took the loss, pitching 4.0 innings, giving up seven runs, off nine hits, struck out two, and walked two. Jeferson Figueroa pitched 1.0 inning and struck out one. Chandler Woolridge worked 2.0 innings, giving up one run, struck out two, and walked one. Jack Hill pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one hit and struck out one.

Offensively for the Dogs, Gio DiGiacomo was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Ethan Wilder went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Jacob Maiben was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Tyreque Reed was 1-for-4 with two runs batted in. Jaxx Groshans went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Daniel Harris was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

For the Saltdogs, Nick Shumpert was 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Cary Arbolida was 3-for-5 with a two-run home run. Calyn Halvorson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run. Paul Myro was 2-for-4. Connor Bagnieski was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Game two of the three-game series is Wednesday night. RHP Zach Voss (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his Saltdogs debut, pitching for Lincoln. RHP Dwayne Marshall (0-0, 5.57 ERA) will be on the mound for Chicago. First pitch at Impact Field will be 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KFOR 101.5 FM/1240 AM and on www.aabaseball.tv.

The Chicago Dogs snapped their five-game losing streak with an 8-7 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Gio DiGiacomo wasted no time getting the Dogs on the board, sending the first pitch he saw over the right field wall for a solo home run. Daniel Harris followed that up with an RBI single that drove home Jaxx Groshans to make the score 2-0 favoring Chicago after the first inning.

Lincoln went on to tie the game in the top of the third inning after Cary Arbolida got the Saltdogs on the board with a two-run home run. Tyreque Reed got the lead back for the Dogs in the bottom of the third with a two-run RBI single that scored DiGiacomo and Ethan Wilder. Harris extended the lead to three with an RBI single that brought Reed home. Another two-run home run from the Saltdogs cut Chicago’s lead to one in the top of the fourth.

Chicago reclaimed the lead once again in the bottom of the fourth thanks to an RBI triple from Wilder that scored Michael Torniero. Jacob Maiben padded the Chicago lead with an RBI of his own to bring Wilder home.

The Saltdogs put together a three-run rally in the top of the ninth that made the score 8-7, but it would not be enough as the Dogs’ closer Jacob DeLabio struck out two en route to a Chicago victory.

The Dogs will continue their home series against Lincoln on Wednesday, June 10. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a back-and-forth contest, it was the Charleston Dirty Birds that got in the final shot, scoring five runs in the eighth inning to take a 12-9 win over the High Point Rockers in the first game of a six-game series at GoMart Park on Tuesday night.

The Rockers held an 8-7 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning but surrendered five runs on three hits and two errors as the Dirty Birds took a 12-8 lead. The Rockers rallied for a run in the ninth that led to the 12-9 final.

High Point’s Ryan McCarthy had three hits including two home runs, scored four runs and drove home five to lead the Rockers offense. Center fielder Bryson Parks set a club record by getting hit by a pitch three times.

The Rockers are now 18-25 on the season while Charleston snapped a nine-game losing streak to improve to 13-30.

High Point took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when McCarthy drew a two-out walk and Luke Napleton delivered a two-run homer. Charleston tied the game in its half of the first, drawing a pair of walks from High Point starter Matt Solter before Carlos De La Cruz delivered a two-run single to left.

The Dirty Birds then put up three more runs in the bottom of the second to take a 5-2 advantage. After a one-out double by Wendell Rijo, Solter walked Shawon Dunston, Jr. then allowed an RBI single to Jaylen Smith. Narciso Crook followed with a two-run single.

McCarthy’s two-run homer in the fourth drove in D.J. Burt ahead of him and pulled the Rockers within one at 5-4.

The Dirty Birds added a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Demetrius Moorer to extend the lead to 6-4.

McCarthy’s two-out solo shot to left cut Charleston’s lead to 6-5. Charleston’s Narciso Crook blooped a single to right in the sixth to score Demetrius Moorer to again make it a two-run game at 7-5.

In the top of the eighth, A walk to pinch-hitter Braxton Davidson and a single by Burt put two men on before McCarthy plated both runners with a double. Nick Longhi then beat out an infield single as McCarthy scored to give the Rockers an 8-7 lead.

Reliever Alec Barger allowed a walk and three hits and Charleston’s offense was aided by a pair of Rocker errors as the Dirty Birds plated five runs in the bottom of the eighth, just two of the runs earned.

Longhi finished the night with three hits as the Rockers out-hit Charleston 12-11.

Game two of the series is slated for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday night at GoMart Park. High Point will send righty David Hess (2-3, 4.96) to the mound to face Charleston righty Jordan Jackson (4-3, 4.72). Rocker fans can follow the action on DugoutTV.org or listen to the audio broadcast on the free MixLR app on their mobile device.

NOTES: The Rockers signed 1B/3B Ivan Melendez on Tuesday. A former second round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Melendez was the consensus national collegiate player of the year in 2022 . . . The Rockers also added recent Georgia Tech reliever RHP Caden Spivey . . . SS Aidan Brewer and OF Chase Nixon were each placed on the seven day injured list.

The Dogs ended up on the wrong side of the record books on Saturday night, falling victim to a 20-5 loss to the Lake Country DockHounds. The twenty runs allowed by Dogs pitching is the most in a single game in franchise history, dating back to the 2018 season.

Steven Lacey, who has been reliable all season long, struggled in his start, giving up six runs. Cameron Smith, Cade Connolly, and Nick DeCarlo all tried to stop the bleeding in their relief outings, but none were successful. Smith allowed two runs, Connolly five, and DeCarlo four. The one positive from a pitching standpoint was the lack of walks allowed, totaling five. The bullpen only allowed two of those five, and has shown better signs of control at this point in the season.

Four doubles and a triple was the Dogs offensive production, most of which came in the top of the fifth inning, when Chicago scored three runs. Michael Torniero also collected his first two professional hits in the game, one of which went for extra bases. Six of the nine hitters in the Dogs lineup collected hits, with five of those players reaching base multiple times.

The Dogs look to bounce back tomorrow behind Regi Gace Jr., who has progressively gotten better as the season goes on. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:05pm CST. All Dogs games can be streamed for free on aabaseball.tv.
