The Dogs ended up on the wrong side of the record books on Saturday night, falling victim to a 20-5 loss to the Lake Country DockHounds. The twenty runs allowed by Dogs pitching is the most in a single game in franchise history, dating back to the 2018 season.

Steven Lacey, who has been reliable all season long, struggled in his start, giving up six runs. Cameron Smith, Cade Connolly, and Nick DeCarlo all tried to stop the bleeding in their relief outings, but none were successful. Smith allowed two runs, Connolly five, and DeCarlo four. The one positive from a pitching standpoint was the lack of walks allowed, totaling five. The bullpen only allowed two of those five, and has shown better signs of control at this point in the season.

Four doubles and a triple was the Dogs offensive production, most of which came in the top of the fifth inning, when Chicago scored three runs. Michael Torniero also collected his first two professional hits in the game, one of which went for extra bases. Six of the nine hitters in the Dogs lineup collected hits, with five of those players reaching base multiple times.

The Dogs look to bounce back tomorrow behind Regi Gace Jr., who has progressively gotten better as the season goes on. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:05pm CST. All Dogs games can be streamed for free on aabaseball.tv.

The Chicago Dogs were swept by the Lake Country DockHounds after dropping the final game of the series 8-2 on Sunday. This loss is the Dogs’ fifth in a row.

Chicago scored first after base hits from Ethan Wilder and Jacob Maiben set up an RBI sacrifice fly by Tyreque Reed that scored Wilder. The DockHounds quickly tied the game at one apiece in the second inning after an error on a pick-off attempt allowed Joshua Mears to score. The Dogs reclaimed the lead in the third inning thanks to a solo home run from Wilder. The Dogs would not score again for the remainder of the contest.

An RBI base hit from Ryan Hernandez tied the game at two apiece in the bottom of the third. Jack Blomgren extended the lead with a solo home run before Drey Dirksen added a solo shot of his own to make the score 4-2. Lake Country never looked back, adding four more runs in just three innings.

Dogs’ starter Regi Grace Jr finished the game after five innings pitched, giving up seven hits, five earned runs, and three walks while striking out three. He was relieved by Rayne Supple followed by Jacob DeLabio, who struck out three of his own.

The Dogs return home to Impact Field on Tuesday, June 9, when they welcome the Lincoln SaltDogs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Ryan McCarthy banged out three hits and drove in three runs to lead the High Point Rockers to a 7-5 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 2,421 at Truist Point.

The win gives the Rockers a 3-3 split in the six-game series. High Point improves to 18-24 on the season while Southern Maryland continues to lead the Atlantic League’s South Division at 28-14.

McCarthy had a two-run homer in the fifth inning and an RBI single in the seventh to pace the Rockers’ 11-hit attack on Sunday. D.J. Burt, Luke Napleton and Chase Nixon each added a pair of hits.

The Rockers jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when Burt singled, moved to second on a single by McCarthy and scored on a single by Max Viera. The Rockers increased the lead to 2-0 in the second when Nixon singled, moved to second when Nolan Watson was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Bryson Parks’ fielder’s choice and scored on a sac fly from Luca Danos.

Rocker starter Ben Wereski went three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four while working under a strict pitch count limit. Wereski threw 48 pitches and exited with a 2-0 lead.

Reliever Matt Colucci came on in the fourth and walked lead-off batter Phillip Sikes then yielded back-to-back homers to Ezquiel Pagan and Danny Bautista, Jr. as the Blue Crabs took a 3-2 lead.

The Rockers jumped ahead 4-3 in the fifth against Southern Maryland starter Connor Overton. After Burt hit a one-out triple to right, McCarthy followed with his fifth home run as a Rocker, hitting the scoreboard in right to score Burt ahead of him.

The Rockers’ Matt Solter came on in the seventh to relieve Colucci as the Blue Crabs regained a 5-4 lead as Brody Fahr doubled and Phillip Sikes hit a two-run homer.

But the Rockers rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to surge to a 7-5 advantage. Danos was hit by a pitch and sacrificed to second by Patrick Sanchez before SMD reliever Dylan Beck walked Burt. McCarthy then singled home one run and Napleton followed with another RBI single. Viera’s sac fly plated Napleton with the third run of the inning.

Nick Timpanelli threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning for the Rockers and Ryan Chasse came on in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.

After an off-day on Monday, the Rockers will head to Charleston, W. Virginia to start a six-game series with the Dirty Birds with the opening game set for Tuesday night. Rocker fans can follow the action on DugoutTV.org or listen on the MixLR free app on their mobile device.

UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (6-5) offense came alive Sunday afternoon, piling up 14 runs on 13 hits en route to a convincing 14-1 victory over the Utica Unicorns (6-5).

The Beavers struck first in the opening inning before breaking the game wide open with a nine-run second inning. Patient at-bats and timely hitting fueled the rally as the Beavers drew 14 walks on the afternoon and consistently put pressure on the Unicorns’ pitching staff.

Leading the offensive charge was catcher Jeffrey Reseigh, who finished 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, three runs scored, and two walks. Matt Piotrowski added a monster performance of his own, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored.

David Coppedge contributed two hits and three RBIs, while Derek Gellos collected three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. The Beavers also received strong offensive support from Kaehukai Young, who reached base four times and drove in a run.

On the mound, Ethan Alexander earned the win after allowing just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out two. The bullpen trio of Spencer Smith, Robin Fernandez, and Josh Nielsen combined to allow just two hits over the final three innings to preserve the victory.

The Unicorns scored their lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Joey Winters, but were held to six hits overall. Alex Harrell, Zayd Brannigan, Joey Winters, Ryan Enos, Jason Givens, and Tyler Warr each recorded a hit in the loss.
