Co-organizer Amy Hoy has a much better description in her recent post to the Failcamp google group.
So stay tuned, and while you do, vote on the next movie:
After kicking things off with our Launch Party on Thursday night (thanks to EVERYONE who came out and to all of our sponsors, as well as the hardworking people at National Mechanics). The holiday weekend is over (boo) but the celebration of independents is not!

IndyHall isn’t just about geeks and nerds, it’s about embracing the power of the independent. That’s why I was thrilled to hear about the Philadelphia chapter of the Recording Academy putting on a seminar geared towards selling music in today’s recording industry. This all day event focuses both on the independent talent, as well as the multimedia and independent music industries overlap in the new marketing space.

This event is taking place at Drexel University this upcoming Saturday, June 12th from 9am-6:30pm.

The recording academy is recommending advance ticket purchase, which is $15 for members of the Academy and $25 for the general public. You can RSVP/purchase by calling 215-985-5411 or emailing rsvp_philadelphia@grammy.com.

You can find out more details by downloading this PDF Flyer.

Viva l’independents!

In the spirit of celebrating our successes, IndyHall is inviting everyone to join us for frosty cold beverages at our favorite watering hole, National Mechanics. And we can’t remember a bad time at National Mechanics!

We’re gathering at 7pm on Thursday, July 3rd (right before your holiday weekend begins!) so there’s no excuse for missing it, unless you’re going out of town. And if you’re going out of town, you might want to reconsider!

SPONSORS!

The only thing better than a night at National Mechanics is a FREE night at National Mechanics!

We’re hoping to make these launch parties a regular event, and so with this first one we want to open up the opportunity for you to sponsor the event.

We’re designating 3 levels of sponsorship to make this event happen:

Fan : $25 sponsorship

Super-fan : $100 sponsorship

Sugar-daddy : $500 sponsorship

As a sponsor your name and link will be added to a thank-you page on our site, as well as announced during the party.

As part of an initiative to re-inspire the skate movement after skating in Love Park was banned six years ago, the Paines Park Project is working to rally support for an important part of the urban culture that has since dissipated to other cities. Paine’s Park is planned to be not just a skate park, but a skate environment. An environment that can, much like IndyHall has become for us, become an icon for a community.

We’re huge supporters of projects that help retain talent across industries and cultures. This opportunity is no exception.

So join us, along with artists, performers, and a number of other iconic brands from the Philadelphia area including Space 1026, Nocturnal Skate Shop, Urban Outfitters, Tastykake, and Johnny’s favorite: Pabst. Along with food and beer, there will be live performances from musicians and skate professionals at the Urban Outfitters Navy Yard HQ.

This is a 21+ event (we’re checking IDs to purchase, and they’ll be checking at the gate as well) to support Franklin’s Paine Skatepark Fund in its mission to build the 2.5 acre skatepark in Center City Philadelphia. Transportation options will be available, details are on the website.

You can buy tickets at a number of locations around the city. They’re $22 online, or $20 if you come to IndyHall and pick them up. They are also available at Red Tettemer, Urban Outfitters in University City and Center City, and Nocturnal Skate Shop.

See everyone Saturday, Skate on!

For the 1st - 7th innings RecycleNOW and the Phillies Ballgirls will be collecting recyclables and answering questions. And IndyHall is going to be joining them!

We’ve been talking about a ballgame for a while now, and since we’re into making the world a better place, this seems like the perfect opportunity. Bonus: if you volunteer, the game is free, so are food and drinks!

Volunteer requirements:
Arrive 1 hour prior to the start of the game, 6pm. We will be sending you information on where to meet us at Citizen’s Bank Park.
Must be of age to stand alone in a designated section without adult supervision
Collect recyclable plastic and aluminum bottles from the seating bowl through the 7th inning

If you would like to go, please RSVP on the volunteer page to ensure a spot.

Also, if you RSVP with RecycleNOW, leave a comment here so we know who to look out for. Johnny Bilotta is taking this one by the reins, so he’ll be watching this space.

Go Phils!

I’m really, really glad that Jason and Lauren have taken control of this event and are working hard to get it back into some sort of regular schedule. That is, of course, unless those plans are already to attend the first Ignite Philly.

Ignite is a format popularized by O’Reilly publishing, and it’s dead simple: presenters from a wide range of background and interest get on stage with 5 minutes and 20 slides that rotate automatically every 15 seconds.

The result? Fast paced, high quality content that hits the hot points of interesting, educational, entertaining, and inspirational. It’s also a great opportunity to spend time with some of Philly’s brightest minds and sharpest leaders.

Speakers include: The iSepta guys; Kristin Thompson of the Future of Music Coalition; NO CARRIER; 100K house; Pete Tridish of the Prometheus Radio Project; Alex Hillman (THATS ME!!) of Indy Hall; and several more.

We’re so pumped that the first Ignite in Philly is taking place in one of the hippest venues, Johnny Brendas. Known for being one of the best intimate concert venues in the city, the owners of Johnny Brendas are graciously turning their stage over to us for the evening. Booze will be flowing. Ideas will be churning. The night is sure to be amazing.

The whole event kicks off at 6pm, and we recommend getting there early because it should fill up fast. There’s an RSVP on Facebook, too, which we recommend.

The organizers: IndyHall’s very own Geoff DiMasi and Alex Gilbert of P’unk Ave and Junto & Vanja Buvac and Far McKon of The Hacktory, and Make:Philly, thank you in advance. And I thank them for putting together such a brilliant event.

That’s this Wednesday, June 11th, at 6pm. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 N.
