It examines material, lighting, and climatic considerations, alongside select case studies that each address a specific dimension of the facade. Across these, facades operate as environmental systems—controlling light, heat, and air. In residential projects, they are tied to spatial planning, […]

In Xi’an, China, a city steeped in the memory of ancient Chang’an, Jinkunge Copper Hot Pot is a 630-square-metre restaurant positioned within an overlap of past and present urban life. The design draws its conceptual core from the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, treating it as a symbolic anchor. This reference allows the space to negotiate between historical memory and present-day use. The entrance sets the tone with warm timber finishes and controlled lighting, marking a transition from the city into the […]

8DesignWorks organises a compact urban home around a central void to introduce light, air, and connectivity within a constrained site. Located on a compact 19 × 60 feet north-facing plot in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, India, the house responds to a site constrained by built mass on three sides. Another premeditating factor is that the region experiences prolonged periods of intense heat, with summer temperatures reaching up to 49°C. With limited scope for lateral openings, the design shifts inwards, organising the house around a central vertical void. This void extends across multiple levels. Skylights positioned above draw daylight deep into the plan, […]

Explore how Twin Habitat in Noida redefines industrial architecture through bioclimatic facade, sustainable materials, and climate-conscious warehouse design. Industrial buildings are often designed for efficiency, with little consideration for environmental performance or user well-being. Twin Habitat in Noida, designed by Basics Architects for Fybros, challenges this norm by rethinking the warehouse-office typology through a climate-responsive lens. Guided by Basics' Nature-Integrated Design approach, the project aligns habitability with sustainability.Located within a dense industrial precinct and exposed to harsh west-facing sun, the project begins with a fundamental environmental challenge—mitigating heat gain while ensuring daylight and ventilation. The building envelope plays a critical role.
