I don’t remember why I wasn’t in college this one morning, but instead was walking around at Marine Drive, Mumbai with a friend’s camera (probably for a college assignment). Saw these two strangers who started talking and then got fully immersed in their conversation. I was standing closer than I should have, out of curiousity, but felt strangely welcome and almost like I belonged in the scene. And eventually, without really asking them verbally, I took this shot.  Feb 2005.

Its IPL season now.. and these lucky kids from Ramakrishna Mission school get the most adorable cheer-leaders!

On the grandest of all Indian highways (NH-2), trucks have some of the best bumper stickers and quotes. This one is slightly more philosophical. The quote on top roughly translates ‘ To struggle is to live’ and the bottom means ‘Death is your life’s custodian’.

We were getting ready for a 10-day hike in the Himalayas at a small and cute village in Sikkim. While walking down the  streets, we met a group of happy kids; and a bit further up the road, these two curious kids were looking at us from the yellow  window of their house.

Always wonder what it would feel to be out at sea. Would I get sea-sick? How wonderful the stars would look on a dark clear night… and how overwhelmingly small and fragile we really are.

Women of Lazu (a small settlement of Nocte tribe in Arunchal Pradesh) have been known to be amongst the most beautiful women. But there’s an ugly story behind the beauty.

Before Independence, British soldiers used to take away beautiful young women for a night, and sexually assault them. In order to protect themselves from such abuse, these women started defiguring themselves by inserting bamboo in their noses (to make it flat) and by tattoing their faces to make them look ugly! This became a tradition and you can still see most older women in this village with tattos on their face. Thankfully, the young girls of this community no longer go through this pain.

Sure, we have all seen the Aircel campaign and always ask “What the hell can I do to lead the change?” A lot or maybe very little, but the least you can do is be aware and know that you can report online a crime against tigers(ironic that it also has an under construction sign, am emailing them and asking if its up) and plain simple donate.

Was shot in a simulated habitat, not 100% wild at Banerghatta national park in Bangalore and hence you can see a white tiger alongwith an orange tiger.
