Quintiles, the US based pharmaceutical service provider has tied up Apollo group to set up their clinical trial unit at their hospital complex in Hyderabad. The company has already offices, research laboratories, datalabs at Bangalore, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The new unit is scheduled to function from first quarter of 2010.

Apollo Hospital promoters are planning to pump Rs.18,000 million to set up new hospitals. Currently, it has plans to set up two new hospitals in Mumbai and Thane in joint-venture with JP Morgan. These hospital will have 600 beds. The group which has a profit margin of 11% has a third quarter revenue of around Rs.3730 million.  The group is going from strength to strength with their revenue per bed has also gone up to Rs.16000. Now, the promoters are also planning to increase their stake from 32% to 39%.

Apollo Healtchare, one of the largest chain of hospitals has tied-up with Wellpoint, the US based health insurance company. This move has also been approved by Joint Commission International, the hospital certifying agency in US. Now, Apollo hospitals can expect its share of foreign patients will go up with influx of US patients. Currently, around 17 % of its patients are foreign and they contribute around 28% of their turnover. Their current projection is to get around 25% foreign and a corresponding increase in their share of revenue to 40%. By 2012, they turnover could cross a billion US $ mark.

            <description><![CDATA[The Chennai based group had raised Rs 300 crore through equity, Rs 200 crore through internal resources, Rs 120 crore through family warranty and rest of the money through loans. The cost of adding one bed is about Rs 50 lakh, said Reddy.

Of the Rs 1,500 crore plan, Rs 500 crore has already been invested in 2008-09 to acquire lands and for adding 200 beds (to make a total of 7,450). In 2009-10, the group will add another 844 beds. The remaining part of the plan will be carried out in 2011.

 Beams Hospitals, a Mumbai based hospital chain, which specialises in minimal access surgeries (MAS) is planning to expand 5 
more centres across India. Currently, the group has  centres in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Bangalore and Indore. Each centre 
will entail an investment of Rs. 60-80 million. It may be noted, Amit Pragma Venutres, a Mumbai based investment firm had 
invested an undisclosed sum in this venture. The company is also working with corporate and medical community to popularize this
 idea.  In MAS type of surgeries, a patient can recover quickly and in 40% of cases, can return home same day without the need for hospitalization. ]]></description>

The company has recently acquired two hospitals which has taken its capacity to 1000 bed hospital chain. It also plans to set up two new hospital in Thiruvananthapuram and in northern Kerala. The hospital has recently acquired accreditation of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International  which will help attracting patients from abroad. It may be noted, in 2012,  35,000 foreign patients were treated at KIMS.]]></description>

	health insurance companies have joined hands to launch Nathealth (Healthcare Federation in India).
	
	The federation has 46 member companies that include Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, Fortis Healthcare, Manipal Health 
	Enterprises and Max India Ltd. Headquartered in Delhi, it aims to play a pivotal role in empowering Indian healthcare and 
	address quality healthcare. The body will also work to help shape policy and regulations besides supporting best practices and 
	promote accreditation.
