This week market may continue on upper side

After 34 days of negative closing, nifty is closing on positive side since last 2 days. Now nifty should reverse from bottom. On closing basis nifty should not close below 5400 level otherwise we may see new down side. FII are also net buyer side since last two days. Forget Europe
problems. Our corporate showed good reults so far. Our growth story is still intact. On clsoing basis nifty is having good support at 5397 and resistance at 5522.

Some major Q4 results and key macroeconomic data will dictate the near term trend on the bourses. Shares of auto and cement firms will be in focus as companies from these two sectors unveil their monthly sales volumes data for May 2011 starting from Wednesday, 1 June 2011.

The Q4 result season comes to an end next week after top firms -- ONGC, M&M, Reliance Communications, Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL and National Aluminium Company unveil Q4 results on Monday, 30 May 2011. The Q4 March 2011 results have been a mixed bag, the common thread being pressure on margins due to rising input costs, interest rates and staff costs.

Data on the performance of the manufacturing sector for May 2011 is due on Wednesday, 1 June 2011. The manufacturing sector had maintained its strong rate of expansion in April 2011, helped by higher output and employment. The HSBC Markit Purchasing Managers' Index, based on a survey of around 500 Indian companies nudged up to 58 in April 2011 from March's 57.9.

Data on the performance of the services sector for May 2011 is likely to be unveiled in early June 2011. The services sector had gained momentum in April 2011, with strong growth in new business orders despite stubbornly high inflation and expectations of further interest rate increases. The seasonally adjusted HSBC Markit Business Activity Index, based on a survey of over 400 Indian firms, edged up to 59.2 in April 2011 from 58.8 in March 2011, marking its two-year anniversary above the 50 level that divides growth from contraction.

Recent data showing gain in food prices in mid-May 2011 will increase pressure on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to raise policy rates when it undertakes mid-quarter monetary policy review on 16 June 2011. The government unveils Q4 March 2011 GDP data on Tuesday, 31 May 2011. The data could provide cues on the likely monetary policy stance of the central bank at the mid-June 2011 review.

Investors will closely monitory the progress of the monsoon rains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the southwest monsoon 2011 to be 98% (normal) of the long period average (LPA) with a model error of plus/minus 5%. IMD has indicated that there is very low probability for the season rainfall to be deficient (below 90% of LPA) or excess (above 110% of LPA).

Good rains, if they arrive on time and if they are well spread, would help ease food inflation and boost rural income. Rainfall that comes within 96% to 104% of the long-term average is considered a normal monsoon season, but this alone doesn't guarantee a good crop. The timing and spread of the rains are equally important. The quantity and geographical spread of rainfall during the monsoon season is crucial for India's agriculture sector, which lacks irrigation facilities on more than half its farm land. Monsoon rains usually enter India's mainland through the southern state of Kerala in the first week of June, gradually progressing to cover most of central and northern India by July, before retreating in September. Weekly Outlook for Nifty and Market. (From 13-9 to 17-9)

This week market may trade on both side with high volatility.

Last week Sensex gained 561 points or +3.08% to 18799 and Nifty gained 154 points or +2.81% to 5640 in the week ended 10-9-2010. As we told last week, if nifty cross 5543 then buy nifty, enjoy good profit with us. Still Nifty is having space to cross 5700 level. On Last Thursday nifty made high of 5710 in the morning. Now this level will act as resistance for nifty. Technically on daily chart Nifty made Invert Hangingman formation. If nifty close above 5710 then it may touch 5800 and more very quickly.

Looking to Strong IIP data rise Market may open in gap up. Keep Close eyes on these events. From this 15 Spet 2nd round of Advance tax and 14th Sept Inflation Data will be announce. and RBI Policy review on 16th Sept. This week we advise to buy nifty if it close above 5691 to 5710. Data on advance tax payment for the second installment of 15 September and macro economic data will be in focus next week. Another major event is a mid-term monetary policy review by the central bank on Thursday, 16 September 2010.

The second installment of advance tax payment which falls due on 15 September 2010, will give a hint about Q2 September 2010 corporate results. As per market speculation, the total advance tax payment is pegged at Rs 50000 crore. Stock-specific activity is likely based on the advance tax figures of individual firms.

A section of the market is concerned that a strong equity issuance pipeline over the next six months will soak liquidity from the secondary equity markets. This includes a large initial public offer (IPO) from Coal India in October 2010. The state-run firm expects to raise $3 billion (about Rs 14000 crore) from the IPO. The government is divesting a 10% stake in Coal India through the proposed IPO.

The Quick Estimates of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with base 1993-94 for the month of July'2010 have been released by the Central Statistics Office of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The General Index stands at 330.8, which is 13.8% higher as compared to the level in the month of July'2009. The cumulative growth for the period April-July 2010-11 stands at 11.4% over the corresponding period of the previous year

The government will unveil inflation data for August 2010 on Tuesday, 14 September 2010. The wholesale price index (WPI) rose an annual 9.97% in July 2010. The annual food inflation rate fell to 10.29% in July 2010 from 14.6% rise in June 2010, with prices of vegetables and sugar falling on the month. Manufacturing inflation, which the RBI uses as a proxy for assessing demand, cooled to 6.15% from 6.66% in June 2010. On the flip side, the headline inflation for May 2010 was revised upwards to 11.14% from 10.16%.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has raised its repo rate by 100 basis points (bps) and the reverse repo rate by 125 bps in the current rate tightening cycle. The repo rate is now 4.5%, the reverse repo rate 5.75% and the cash reserve ratio (CRR) 6%.

The recent turnaround of the Indian economy is likely to translate into sustained capital expenditure (capex) program of India Inc. This augurs well for the medium-term economic growth. High capacity utilisation in some of the key industries further corroborates likelihood of a capex upsurge.

On the global front, investors are looking ahead to August 2010 trade data from China on Friday, 10 September 2010. As per the market buzz, China will announce a big trade surplus for the month. (Data Source: Capitalmarket)

IOC, ONGC divestment by Q4, to fetch Rs 19K cr: Oil Secy

The Government expects to complete the ONGC and IOC divestments by the end of this fiscal and hopes to raise up to Rs 19,000 crore from the process.

"We plan to complete the (divestment) process before the end of the financial year...(hopefully) by the last quarter. Going by current market prices, we should raise up to Rs 18-19,000 crore," Oil Secretary S Sundareshan on Friday told reporters here.

The government plans to sell 5 per cent stake in Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and 10 per cent in Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) through the follow-on public offer, he said.

In case of IOC, he added, an additional mop-up of around Rs 10,000 crore was expected as the country's largest oil marketer would be raising 10 per cent more equity.

The Oil Secretary said the government planned to go ahead with the IOC divestment followed by ONGC. The ministry has already asked IOC to scout for merchant banker for the issue, while that of ONGC is yet to be finalised.

"Merchant bankers for the IOC and ONGC issues will be appointed shortly and we will be working closely with the Ministry of Finance and Department of Disinvestment," Sundareshan said.

"IOC has huge requirement for money. It will be using the proceeds of the sale for the Rs 29,000-crore Paradeep refinery," he said.

The Government has set a target of raising Rs 40,000 through divestment in various companies in the current fiscal and has already completed stake sale in firms like Engineers India and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, while Manganese Ore India, Steel Authority of India, Coal India and Hindustan Copper are on the cards. Gujarat NRE Mineral to file draft papers for IPO in a month

Gujarat NRE Mineral Resources Ltd, (GNMRL), an associate of Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd, today said it will file the draft prospectus for its planned initial share sale offer in a month.

"We will file draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in a month," Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd CMD A K Jagatramka told reporters after the company's annual general meeting.

Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd (GNCL) is the flagship entity of the Gujarat NRE group and is a leading producer of met coke in the country. GNMRL holds the controlling stake in GNCL.

According to Jagatramka, the IPO proceeding would be used to hike promoters stake in Gujarat NRE Coke Ltd.

The company did not divulge the amount it intends to mop- up through the issue. The IPO would see a dilution of 25 per cent stake by promoters in GNMRL.

"We will dilute holding in the company to raise promoters stake in GNCL to 51 per cent from around 47 per cent to prevent a possible hostile takeover," he said.

Promoters hold 90 per cent in GNMRL and post IPO it will come down to 65 per cent.

Gujarat NRE Coke is already listed on the Indian bourses. On Thursday, shares of GNCL ended 1.41 per cent lower to close at Rs 63.10 on the National Stock Exchange.

The group plans foray into oil and gas field in Australia through GNMRL and it was likely to invest about $1 million this year.

The company also planned to raise the capacity of its foreign plants, Gujarat NRE Coking Coal Ltd (GNCCL), Australian subsidiary of GNCL, which owns and operates two coal mines in Australia with combined coal resources of over 560 million tonne.

The company targeted to raise production capacity in Australia to 6 million tonne by 2014 and invest $400 million.

He said that $100 million has been invested so far and another $100 million was approved last week to increase production.

Jagatramka said work on the one million tonne coke and 60 MW greenfield power plant project in Andhra Pradesh would begin next year attracting an investment of Rs 800 crore.

Asked about coking coal price, he said the demand was sluggish due to fear in the market.

The quarterly contract price has eased to $205-209 per tonne, against $225 per tonne.

"In the next six months the price is likely to stay above $200 per tonne. This is a good price as Australian production cost is $70 per tonne." (Source : ET)

Weekly Outlook for Nifty and Market. (From 6-9 to 10-9)

This week market may consolidate near current level

Last week Sensex gained 223 points or +1.24% to 18221 and Nifty gained 108 points or +1.31% to 5479 in the week ended 3-9-2010. Last week nifty bounce back from bottom but still nifty could not cross previous high of 5543. On weekly basis nifty is having strong support at 5334 and resistance at 5543.

Last week GDP data showed good strength. Auto sector and Cement sector also showed good numbers. Looking Indian Vix closed at all time low at 15.86. This VIX number is showing nifty could not jump easily to new high. Volatility should be increase other wise nifty may slide down again in comming weeks.

This week we advise to buy nifty if it close above 5543. Otherwise remain neutral and sell nifty only below 5392 on closing basis. This week market may consolidate between 5368 to 5540

Profit booking may emerge at higher level after recent strong gains, but rising confidence among foreign investors in India's rapid pace of economic growth should provide support to equities.

Data on industrial production for July 2010 will be out on Friday, 10 September 2010. Industrial output rose 7.1% in June 2010, compared with revised 11.3% rise in May 2010.

Indian stock market remains closed on Friday, 10 September 2010, on account of Ramzan Id. The US market remains closed on Monday, 6 September 2010, for Labor Day holiday.

Foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 11687.50 crore in August 2010. But, there are concerns that risk aversion may force foreign institutional investors (FIIs) to withdraw money from emerging markets, including India.

Among sector specific bets, shares in the sugar and telecom space could be in focus. The government, last week, started the process of allotting third generation (3G) spectrum to the winning telecom bidders. The telecom operators would be able to use the 3G spectrum for 20 years starting 1 September 2010. With this, the commercial launch of 3G mobile services is expected to happen by the end of this year or early next year, which would enable mobile phone subscribers to access the internet and download videos at a much faster pace.

Sugar stocks will be in focus as some reports suggested that Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had made a formal presentation to the Prime Minister on decontrol of the sugar sector. Earlier in July, Pawar was quoted as saying that the Government may consider decontrolling the sugar industry after the end of August 2010.

Among global cues, investors will closely watch the US payroll report on Friday, 3 September 2010. A fresh batch of US unemployment figures for August 2010, anxiously awaited by Wall Street, the White House and millions of unemployed Americans, will prove to be a crucial litmus test for the struggling US economic recovery. Global economic data has not been so supportive lately, spreading an air of caution among investors.

With more initial public offers and share sales lined up, including by large state-run companies such as Coal India, there is a greater chance of the secondary market losing some of its charm in the medium term. Although, Indian market valuations are high but so is growth and one should remember that economic and earnings growth is in short supply globally. Global investors are chasing earnings growth and their confidence in developed market equities is low.

India's key southwest monsoon rains were 16% above normal in the past week, compared with 29% above normal in the previous week, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday, 2 September 2010. Total rainfall since June 1 till date is just 1% below normal, the IMD said.

Indian economy expanded at the fastest pace in 2-1/2 years in Q1 June 2010. The gross domestic product (GDP) grew 8.8% in Q1 June 2010. The manufacturing sector grew 12.4%, mining sector expanded 8.9%, construction sector grew 7.5%, and farm sector expanded at 2.8%. Output in the combined sectors -- trade, hotels, transport and communication, jumped 12.2%.

The economy could grow better than 8.5% in the fiscal year that ends in March 2011, Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said on Tuesday, 31 August 2010. Market Gainer Stocks on 3-9-10

BEML, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers, Bosch and Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals are among the other gainers.

Godrej Consumer Products jumped 7.03% to Rs 400.95 on recent reports the company may raise prices in the premium categories soon. The stock was the biggest gainer in BSE's 'A' group.

BEML spurted 6.87% to Rs 1134.30 on reports the company has signed a memorandum of agreement with an aerospace product design company, CADES Digitech to work on 'design to build,' 'build to print' programmes of global aerospace majors. The stock was the second biggest gainer in 'A' group.

Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers gained 5.30% to Rs 86.35 and was the third biggest gainer in 'A' group. Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals rose 5.13% to Rs 73.80 and was the fifth biggest gainer in 'A' group. Fertiliser stocks rose on optimism the near-normal monsoon this season will boost fertilizer sales.

Bosch advanced 5.26% to Rs 6302.75 after striking a record high of Rs 6,420 in intra-day trade today, 3 September 2010. It was the fourth biggest gainer in 'A' group. (Source: Capital Market)

CRISIL assigns top rating to Coal India IPO

MUMBAI: Rating agency, CRISIL, on Friday said that it has assigned a CRISIL IPO Grade 5/5 (five-on-five) to the proposed initial public offer (IPO) of state-run Coal India Ltd (Coal India).

This grade indicates that the fundamentals of the IPO are 'strong', a CRISIL statement said.

State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL), the country's largest coal mining company, is planning to raise Rs 13,000-crore through an IPO to fund the infrastructure projects in the country. This will be the largest IPO in the Indian capital market after Reliance Power's offer in January 2008 through which the company had raised Rs 11,500 crore.

The Union Cabinet has approved a divestment of 10 per cent of Government stake in the Navratna PSU. The Centre currently holds all the equity in the company.

The company will offload around 630-million shares through a book-building process which is to be launched in October.

Coal India, the largest producer of coal in the world has the largest resources of 64.8-billion tonnes. In FY 10, it produced 431-million tonnes of coal, which accounted for 81 per cent of the coal production in India.

The company owns and operates 471 coal mines--163 are open cast, 273 are underground and the rest are mixed. Coal production is carried out by the seven subsidiaries of the company (Source: ET)

Rupee has best week in a month on growth hopes

The rupee completed the biggest weekly gain in a month on speculation that accelerating economic growth will prompt investors to increase purchases of the nation’s stocks. The currency strengthened to the highest level in two weeks as funds based abroad raised holdings of Indian shares to a record and the government reported the fastest pace of expansion in the second quarter since 2007.

The approaching September 15 deadline for corporate tax payments is probably spurring a bout of dollar sales, supporting the rupee, said Sudarshan Bhatt at Corporation Bank. “The stronger growth and the surge in shares this week are helping the rupee,” said Mr Bhatt, the Mumbai-based chief foreign-exchange trader at the bank. The rupee appreciated 0.5% from a week ago to 46.64 per dollar as of the 5 pm close in Mumbai, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Overseas investors raised holdings of Indian equities to an all-time high of $85.8 billion as of September 1, data from the Securities & Exchange Board of India show. The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensitive Index advanced 1.2% this week. India’s gross domestic product grew 8.8% in the three months through June from a year earlier, after an 8.6% increase in the previous quarter, the Central Statistical Organisation said on August 31. Local companies pay tax in quarterly portions in June, September, December and March.

Offshore forward contracts indicate the rupee will trade at 47.29 to the dollar in three months, compared with expectations for 47.58 at the end of last week.

Forwards are agreements to buy or sell assets at a set price and date. Non-deliverable contracts are settled in dollars.(From ET)
