            <title>Uttaranchal government to review 120 MW Vyassi  hydel project</title>

            <description><![CDATA[After two decades, Uttaranchal  government has allotted the 120 MW Vyassi dam project to its state run enterprise UJVNL (Uttaranchal  Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd). The hydel project will be set up at a cost of Rs.7580 million. It will produce 438.38 million units of power during peak periods. It may be noted that Vysasi project was earlier a part of Lakhwar-Vysassi project and was awarded to NHPC which has prepared DPR for the project. However, as a surprise move the govt. has awarded the project to UJVNL. ]]></description>

            <title>Himachal government cancels 7 hydel projects</title>

            <description><![CDATA[Himachal government has cancelled allotments of 7 mini-hydel projects for violating terms and conditions by the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).  The cancelled projects are 5 MW Koot in Shimla district, 3 MW Chennari and 4.5 MW Bakhali projects, 2 MW in Mandi district, 2.5 MW in Moujhi in Kangra district, 3 MW in Machad-II. Many of the IPP’s will forfeit their bank gurantees and EMD’s. It may be seen as failure of the state government to award these projects to local entrepreneurs who failed to complete the projects. Now, the govt. is considering to issue fresh ads to invite proposals to revive these projects. Out of 191 projects, only 10% have been completed. ]]></description>

The projects like 2 x 325 kw Badanai mini hydel project,  2 x 150 kw Banpur mini hydel project, 1 x 325 kw Andharbangi mini hydel project, 2 x 325 kw Barboria mini hydel projects in Kendapara district,  and 2 x 1 MW Harabhangi mini hydel project(Gajapati) have been started long back and yet to be commissioned for production. Many are holding back for revision in power-purchase agreements. OPGC may go for re-tender if the parties do not agree for the standard cost of power development at Rs.650 million per MW.]]></description>

UJVNL has received assistance of a total of USD 300 million of which USD 45 million will be spent on these hydel projects. Kaliganga and Madmaheshwar hydel projects are constructed on Mandakini river in Ukhimath district in Rudraprayag district of the state. These projects are expected to be completed by 2 years. UJVNL currently produces 1305.9 MW, while the hydel potential of the state is estimated at 25000 MW]]></description>

The maximum discharge from Pillur is around 173 cumecs and it receives water from river Bhavani, Kundah river and Niralapalam stream. There exists a hydro potential of 36 m discharge. The project is under implementation and is expected to be commissioned by July 2009. The project which was conceived in 2004 is estimated at Rs.586.4 million with cement and steel prices going up the revised cost will be high.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Pachi Hydro Power Projects Ltd which is setting up Phangchung Hydroelectric Project is planning to revise its capacity from 36 MW to 56 MW. It found that the discharge data in the PFR was based on Bichom River of West Kameng District; whereas Phangchung HEP lies in East Kameng District which receives substantially higher rainfall. It may be noted, this project was originally initiated as a 60 MW dam based project. The promoters revised the scheme to a run of the river type leading to reduction of installed capacity to 36 MW with Design Energy of 137.6 MU. The present assessment of design capacity as 56 MW is based on accepting the representative mean rainfall as 4062 mm (Sebu Lanka) and 4100 mm for Badao Lamino. With 75% runoff factor, the yield is taken as 3075 mm.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Karnataka Power Corp is planning to set up a  600 MW Kali Pumped Storage Scheme. The project is proposed across Bare Halla  stream which is a tributary to Kali river joining Kali river on the down stream of Kodasalli Dam.  After flowing  through a distance of around 8 km, the stream drops almost vertically through a height of around 400 m, known as Vajra falls, in a very short distance and joins Kadra reservoir on the down stream of the existing Kodasalli dam.  A weir of height 18.0 m across Bare halla stream is proposed at a location just before the falls and its storage capacity to be around 21.0 M cum.  The project is very much in planning stage and is yet to get statutory clearances.]]></description>

The project involves construction of a 109 m high concrete dam across Kolodyne river with an installed capacity of 460 MW (4x115 MW) in Lawngtlai/ Saiha districts of Mizoram. Land requirement for the project is around 200 ha which is likely to be private land. In addition to this 3700 ha will be submerged due to construction of the dam across the river and it includes three villages  viz. Tuipui Ferry, Vertek Kai and Tuipui. It may also be noted that the river originates from Myanmar and travelling some distance in Mizoram it goes back to Myanmar. EIA report is yet to be made and other statutory clearance are awaited.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Arunachal Pradesh to increase capacity of Demwe Lower hydel power generation unit from 1630 MW to 1750 MW. The project was earlier planned as  lower and upper Demme HEP’s to avoid submergence of Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary. It was the CEA which observed the unutilized head  of approximately 13 meter between FRL of Demwe Lower Hydroelectric Project (i.e. 420 m)and TRT level of Demwe Upper Hydroelectric Project (i.e. 433 m) which can be utilized to increase the hydro power potential. Now, further clearance are awaited.


  Latest News   The project has achieved green nod from the environmental ministry, after the minister has 
	overuled the high powered committee decision. Sources said, the project has to be built without any delay before neighbouring 
	states build their dams, which in case will provide first user rights to India as per international norms. The state government has 
	conveyed its strong support to the project to ensure its water and energy security.]]></description>

 HP Power Corp Ltd is setting up a 243 MW Kashang Hydro project in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The project is likely
 to entail and investment of Rs.4530 million and has received loan to the tune of Rs.2970 million for the first phase of 65 MW. 
Now, as the project has received environmental clearance, it is expected to see further progress in coming months. It may be 
noted, the company has already submitted a detailed project report to ADB for finance.
  Latest News   The project has achieved financial closure and phase I of 65 MW is likely to go operational by 
2013, while stage II & III are likely to go operational by 2015.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Hindustan Construction Co, a leader in dam construction, where over half of the dams in the country are built by HCC has submitted a proposal to develop the ambitious Kalapsar project. According, a huge dam is to be built over the Gulf of Khambat which will turn the  gulf into a fresh water lake of over 2000 sq.kms. It will be fed by excess water from twelve rivers including, Narmada, Mahi, Sabarmati and Dadha. Dholera which is to be built on the lines of Lavasa City requires huge water which is to be met from Kalapsar fresh water lake, also solving the problem of the water starved arid region. It will be a 64.6 km long and 35 meter wide dam will connect Ghogha in Bhavnagar with Hansot in Bharuch District. There had been a score of feasibility studies on the project which includes topographical surveys, bathymetry, oceanographic and geophysical investigations, environmental impact assessment/social impact assessment studies, geotechnical investigation and seismic studies by 15 premium institutes. The project will roughly cost between Rs.250 billion to Rs.350 billion and may be completed by 2020.             <description><![CDATA[ L&T Himachal Hydropower Ltd is planning to construct 410 MW Reoli-Dugli hydro power project in Lahaul-Spiti district of 
	Himachal Pradesh. The project involves construction of 75 meter high concrete dam across river Chenab in the confluence of 
	Darhi Nala and Reoli Nala with river Chenab. The project will be a run-off-the river and located in between the downstream of 
	Seli HEP and upstream of Purthi HEP projects. Water is then led to an underground powerhouse housing four generating units 
	each of 105 MW capacity coupled with Francis turbines through two steel lined pressure shafts. The normal Tail Water Level of 
	the project as allotted by the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh is 2333.2 m. Water from the power house is led back into the river 
	through a tail race tunnel. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 26040 million.]]></description>

            <description><![CDATA[Amrit Jal Ventures Ltd, a subsidiary of GATI Infrastructure Ltd has commissioned the 110 MW Chuzachen hydel power project in Sikkhim. The project invovles setting up a 2x55 MW hydel power project across river Rangpo and Rongli rivers. The company has awarded the EPC contract to Alstom India in 2007.  The scope of work included turnkey execution of Electro-Mechanical package comprising of hydroturbines, generators, BOP (Balance of Plant) and auxiliaries. The company has also set up a dedicated transmission line of 24 kms to evacuate the power to central grid. It may be noted, the company is also setting up 54 MW Bhamsey hydel project and 71 MW Sada Mangdar hydel project  in Sikkhim.

            <description><![CDATA[Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) is planning to set  up six Mini Hydel Power Projects of 9.5 MW capacity through Independent Power Producers (IPP) mode under Phase-II in the state. 

The process for allotting the works of these Hydel power projects has been started through competitive bidding. The required letters have been issued to the respective bidders by the authorities of JAKEDA.

It may be noted, JAKEDA has earlier allotted six projects having 9.95 MW Cumulative capacities under Phase-I among IPP to develop these projects in different areas of the State.]]></description>

Central Financial assistance will be given to 50 projects on a first-come-first-served basis. The scheme is applicable to projects undertaken by individuals, government departments or local bodies, cooperatives and NGOs. Proposals for Pico hydro electric power schemes owned by women, women entrepreneurs or NGOs run by women will be given preference. The grant in aid will be provided to 50 eligible beneficiaries after successful completion of such schemes on or before October 31, 2013 on a first-come first-served basis]]></description>
