The Body Shop Vitamin E illuminating Moisture Cream

I am sure most of us here would have a wish list that includes at least one item from The Body Shop’s vitamin E range. I had the vitamin E illuminating moisture cream for a while now and I finally got it after much wait.

What does The Body Shop Claim?

Best if you want to: Give your skin a luminous, healthy glow with a nourishing daily moisturizing cream that contains light-diffusing particles to help minimize the appearance of fine lines.

How it works:

Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant that moisturizes and helps to protect against premature aging and environmental aggressors.

Community Trade shea butter moisturizes and helps to soften and refine skin.

Super-fine mica minerals diffuse light to create a bright, illuminated complexion.

Key Ingredients :

Vitamin E
Vitamin E conditions, nourishes, and protects the skin, leaving it soft, smooth, and healthy.

Shea butter
Moisturizes and helps soften the skin. Also provides a rural community of women with regular work and income.

Price: Rs. 845 / $18.50 for 1.7 fl oz/50ml.

What I think about The Body Shop illuminating cream:

The cream comes in a pink jar, with the usual vitamin E packaging. Smells pretty much like the vitamin E range. I am sure most of us would have an idea of how the vitamin E range smells like sniffing it at The Body Shop’s stores sometime or the other .Reminds me of baby cream. Very soothing and also promisingly moisturizing. Lol, so much from the smell .

TBS Illuminating Cream

The cream is light pink in color and contains no form of shimmer while in the jar. When I apply it, it starts transforming into a dark-ish pink colour which quickly spreads upon blending and leaves a nice pinkish glow.

I just take a very small amount and apply it all over my face blending well. The cream as such is easy to spread but I just make sure to blend it in well so that no pinky residue is left behind looking artificial. The cream also sinks in pretty easily and leaves no funky residue. IMHO, it’s a little less heavy compared to the normal Vitamin E day/night creams but still moisturizes very well. I like that it’s a little light, because we don’t want to look greasy and illuminated at the same time.

TBS Illuminating Cream

I use this mostly instead of using moisturizer and set the look with loose powder. This one really does wonders in illuminating the face. It gives a nice dewy glow and a beautiful healthy pink look. Perfect for daytime, work or an evening look. I wouldn’t’ try to multi-task it as a night cream though.

Sometimes, I use this as a base before applying my foundation and this really perks up the skin by adding a beautiful glow which regular moisturizer won’t provide. After using this, skin is well prepped up for make-up too.

TBS Illuminating Cream

This one cannot be substituted for a tinted moisturizer. It won’t cover any blemishes or acne scars. Just gives a nice dose of hydration and illuminates face really well. Lives up to its claim and totally delivers what’s expected of it.

What I like about The Body Shop’s Vitamin E illuminating cream:

Provides both moisture and a nice glow at the same time.

Illuminates face really well with no glitter or shimmer.

Spreads really well and leaves no oily residue or film

Can be used in hot weathers too. What are loose powders for? I do not have oily skin, but I know of people with oily skin who use this and have liked it a lot.

Reasonably priced for the job it does.

What I dis-like about The Body Shop’s Vitamin E illuminating cream:

The jar packaging which is obviously unhygienic. Wish TBS changes the packaging to a pump or a tube. Since the cream turns to a pink color, the sides of the jar might have a pinky residue as time goes by. I just keep wiping it with a tissue .

Although the cream spreads easily, if not blended well can leave an artificial pink tint. So, make sure to massage it well. It sinks in pretty fast too.

Other than this, I see no big gripe with this baby.
Will I re-purchase? Hell Yeah. I am lovin’ it so far.

If you are looking at a nice cream to perk up your dull skin, then this cream is a must buy for you. It won’t give you the coverage any foundation or tinted moisturizer can, but definitely illuminates and brightens skin well.

Have you tried The Body Shop’s Vitamin E illuminating cream? Was it yay or nay? It’s a totally yay for me. What about you? Share your thoughts.

Pears shower gel – a Review

Next on my experimental agenda is “Pear’s shower gel”. I personally am a BIG FAN when it comes to shower gels. It offers gentle cleansing and exfoliation and it’s like having a perfect treat for my body everytime I head for shower. I tend to have long steaming showers when I use shower gels and as we all know besides weekend we don’t have that much time everyday. So weekdays I stick to soap and when its weekend time – it’s time to treat myself with nice shower gel along with hot steaming water. I have very sensitive skin so much so that everytime I bathe using any regular soap, I develop red itching patches on my body!! SAD I KNOW!! I have been sticking to PEARS SOAP and DOVE SOAP for ages now. So, on my trip to BEAUTY SHOP – the instant I saw “PEARS SHOWER GEL”, I grabbed it to experiment how this product would be . . . Hehehe..

The shower gel is as good as the soap. I remember using this soap since I was a kid which seemed as a nice big brown bar of TOFFEEE !!! I inherited a very sensitive skin from my dad and ended up using this soap since long a time now. Recently DOVE soap has come to my rescue. It is very gentle and effective just as PEAR’S soap is. Let’s come to our review then – -

PEAR’S SHOWER GEL

QUANTITY – 250 ml
PRICE – hmm I don’t remember actually BUT it was under 500 bucks !

Pears Shower Gel

I love the flip-top cap of this bottle and the fact that the bottle looks like a large version of the Pears soap. It has a cute hook which can be used to hang the bottle in your shower. Also the shower gel doesn’t drip out even when the flip cap has been open (MAKES IT GOOD FOR TRAVELLINGGGG you have literally squeeze the bottle hard to take the gel on your loofah.

Pears Shower Gel

What does the term “soap-free” mean???

Soaps can be very harsh cleansers and one does not always need soap to be clean. There are many things that can act as cleansers. Citrus acid (lemon juice), pumice and alcohol are few examples that act as cleansers. The term “soap- free” is used by many products to imply that the product will not dry out your skin (which is typically opposite of what soap does). This is because soaps have higher pH than that of our skin which causes damage to our epidermal layer of cells. Soap-free products are usually pH balanced products i.e. they have same pH as that of our skin (which is around 5
). The term also implies that product does not contain any salt of a fatty acid (sodium laurate etc) which normally soaps contain. However it may contain any “sulphate“based surfactants like sodium laureth sulphate.

My take on the product:
If you love this soap, you will definitely love this shower gel. Pears is a much known brand name and it surely is one of the best soaps in India with no harsh chemicals in it. Gentle and effective are the two best words that can describe this product. The shower gel is pure as milk and does not damage your skin or cause irritation of any kind. The gel lathers very well and creates luxurious bubbles, effectively cleanses and moisturizes your skin while making you feel refreshed with the help of its subtle fragrance. Its fragrance is pleasant and even lingers on after you come out of the shower. Also you don’t need dollops of gel to lather up. Pear’s soap is recommended by many skin specialists. My dad and I started using this soap after my dad’s doctor recommended it to us. Since it is branded as glycerine bar, it nourishes your skin like nothing else. I had minor problems using this particular soap because we had to be very careful while storing the soap. The soap melted very easily and care had to be taken so that much water does not accumulate around the soap bar. However, there are no such issues with the shower gel at all so I was quite happy with that. All in all, this product is definitely worth every penny.

PROS:

100% soap- free.

Skin pH balanced

Glycerine based gel moisturizes and nourishes your skin, leaving it soft.

Packaging makes this product good for travelling.

This product is one of the best ones for sensitive skin.

It is hypoallergenic and non- comedogenic.

I love the fact that the subtle fragrance still lingers on after you step out of shower.

Small amount of gel is required. It’s quite foamy (OHHHH I LUV BUBBLES).

CONS:
What can I say? This product is CLASSIC!! Worth every penny.

My Mini Avon Haul & Review-

Hi Ladies,

With my great success with Avon products I decided to check out few more of their stuffs. My face is a mixture of oily and super oily skin he he, so I can’t use just any powder or foundation. It has to match my skin status which I feel is forever oily. So this time I decided to try their liquid foundation called AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation. The word gel actually caught my attention as I believe anything gel will suit my skin type. So here it is like

AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation (Natural)

What AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation Claims:

Enhance your skin’s natural radiance & get even flawless skin with simply pretty gel foundation. The water based moisturizing formula feels fresh and light, as if you are not wearing any make up.

Its Price:

It is priced at Rs 149 for 30ml.

Availability of Shades:

AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation comes in three shades namely,

Light Beige (16826)

Medium Beige (16827)

Natural Beige (76828)

How to Use:

I simply squeeze the tube a little & apply a small pea sized amount on chin, forehead & nose. Blend it well & spread evenly using a wet sponge.

AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation swatch

What is good about AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation:

It blends & glides on smoothly & comes off easily too. Also it is so light that it doesn’t feel cakey at all nor does it leaves you with that heavy sticky feeling.

As said it comes off very easily, no need to use makeup remover just a mild face wash is enough to remove the foundation.

I love the way that it makes my skin so fair, even toned and smooth.

The foundation is unscented which is a plus especially for those who are really sensitive with fragranced products.

It is not oily & water based.

I never had any rashes, allergies or any weird skin reactions with this one. I also did not break out. With a powder foundation to set it, it looks good to go.

It is dermatologist tested & also approved for sentisitive skin.

It is hypoallergenic & works as a perfect base for my makeup.

What is Not Good about AVON Simply Pretty Gel Foundation?

Comes in only three limited shades, so it is difficult to choose the right shade. I wish it comes in other shades too.

The packaging is cute but comes in a very small quantity, 30ml tube.

This does not have a full coverage on the skin, it only has a semi-matte, medium coverage so for those who like a full coverage foundation to cover some deeper imperfections, this one cannot cut it .

Verdict:

I am very satisfied with the foundation for the price. This one is good enough as a daily foundation, but I noticed that by the end of the working day, I have had a lot of products sticking on my hanky or tissue when I blot my face. This works great for non-humid and a/c rooms, but not outside.

#AVON Simply Pretty Shine no more pressed powder (Natural Beige)

Light Beige (14668)

Dusky Beige (14867)

AVON Simply Pretty Shine no more pressed powder

How to Use:

After applying the gel foundation I pat the press powder gently on my face.

What is good about AVON Simply Shine no more pressed powder:

It oil free & dermatologist tested.

Its special micro-powders absorb shine while wet/dry formula allows you to control its coverage for a fresh, clean look.

It provides great coverage especially when applied wet. In fact, even with dry application it is great at controlling oil.

Unscented.

SPF 14 helps shield skin the damaging UAA/UV rays

Non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic

Really affordable. You’ll get it at an even lesser price when it goes on sale.

What is Not Good about AVON Simply Shine no more pressed powder?

It comes in a single compartment. I wished that its packaging includes two compartments, one for the powder and another for the sponge.

Verdict:

So, I would recommend one for everyone. It’s a win-win situation, anyway. If it suits you then you are able to find a great everyday compact. If it would not, it would not hurt so much since this is really cheap.

# AVON Simply Pretty Simply Color Bliss Lipstick:

The first thing I noticed when I tried Perfect Wear was how smooth it felt going on. It felt like applying silk to my lips, unlike some of the other brands .I bought two shades from this range. It is priced at Rs 125 each. There is wide range of color to select from. The color is very pigmented & creamy. I wish it had a little sheen to it but any how it is a great product. A review has already been done by Neha, kindly check it too.

Graceful Nude: It is a great nude color suitable for everyday use. I really keep my look very simple with this shade. I apply it with my kajal, mascara & a touch of lip gloss & I am done.

Mango Mania: As like the nail paint the lip color is very similar to orange/ brick color. Goes well with most of my colorful dresses. I have a wheatist completion & I feel this shade really suits me well & also helps to brighten my completion.

Party Make Up: Turquoise Blue/Green Eyes and Neon Pink Lips

Aloha everyone. As far as me and my hubby + our gang of friends are concerned, the party season has already begun! Our gang consists of about 10 couples, and the birthdays begin from August each year, with my best friend’s birthday at end August. From then onwards, it’s birthdays and more birthdays (read: parties and more parties). Last Saturday, we had another friend’s birthday party and I just wanted to share with the IMBB gang my party make-up look on that day.

I first applied MAC Paint Pot (Soft Ochre) all over the eyelids upto just below the eyebrows. I then lined my lower lash line with Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner Pencil (Black) and while it was ‘setting’, I applied Lakme Intense Shine Eyeliner (Olive) on my upper lash line. While that was setting, I applied MAC Eye Kohl (Float on By) on my lower lash line on top of the Revlon black eye pencil. After the Lakme eyeliner had set on my upper lash line, just above that, I applied the Revlon ColorStay Liquid EyeLiner (Bingo Blue) in a thin line. With a MAC 213 eyeshadow brush, I then applied MAC eyeshadow (Vellum) upto the brow bone. MAC Vellum eyeshadow looks white in the pan, but after application, it has a sheer iridescent violet hue and it’s great as a brow bone highlighter. I heard that abroad it has been removed from their regular line and is available only in the MAC Pro Collection now. ( Since I have almost blonde eyebrows, I applied MAC Brow Pencil in Fling on my eyebrows.)

Top 10 Beauty Myths

So many of our IMBB readers are going to be proud moms that I could not help begin this skin, hair and beauty myth article with some Old Wives Tales about how to predict the gender of your child (remember to try these only for fun) : (a) Hang your wedding ring from a string over your belly. If the ring swings back and forth your baby is a girl. If it swings around in a circle then it is a boy. (b) Put a tablespoon of Drain-O in a cup and pee into it. If the mixture turns green you are having a girl. If it turns blue you are having a boy. (c) If you’re carrying low, you’re having a boy. If you are carrying high, then you must be having a girl. (d) If you are craving for chocolates you could be having a girl, if you crave for something sour such as lemon juice, you could be having a boy.

Well, old wives tales are just those- old wives tales. They are fun to listen to but do not carry much scientific facts behind them. We have collected some beauty myths for you. Some of them you may actually believe in (I found that my wife believes in 2- 3 of them) and some of them you might have heard. Whatever be the case, they are all myths and Old Wives Tales.

Skin Myths

Myth 1: Chocolates and Fried Foods Cause Breakouts and Acne-

As much as mineral water makes you tipsy- they don’t. Having frequent acne on your skin means that you have a skin which reacts abnormally to a hormone called testosterone. The sebaceous glands are prompted by testosterone to produce an oily stuff called sebum. Because of this the pores that hold the hair get blocked partially (producing blackheads) or fully (producing pimples). There is completely no relation between eating chocolates or fried foods and skin breakouts or acne. When was the last time you saw an overweight person with acne? Most of them have smooth skin. Although, if you eat healthy diet your skin will certainly glow.

Myth 2: Acnes are caused by dirt so wash and scrub your face-

DON’T! In fact acne is caused by sebum below the skin surface and hence are not affected by dirt. Trying to wash away a pimple on your skin might even worsen it by increasing oil production. The best thing is to use a gentle cleanser so you don’t damage your skin’s outer barrier or create inflammation (both of which hinder your skin’s ability to heal and fight bacteria) and to use gentle skin exfoliation. You should also go for an exfoliating product that contains salicylic acid or glycolic acid for reducing acne on your skin.

Myth 3: Vaseline on your face/under eye every night can prevent wrinkles-

Vaseline is just a moisturizer and it may soften the skin but there is no indication that it can prevent wrinkles. Also it can sometimes block your skin pores so it might break your skin out into pimples. In fact there is not a single beauty product that can prevent wrinkles.

Myth 4: Organic or Natural Products are Better than synthetic products for Skin:

Not necessarily. You may be right in believing that “don’t put on your skin what you cannot put into your mouth,” but don’t trust those ‘Organic’ or ‘Natural’ labels completely. There is not much evidence to support that organic beauty products are better for your skin. In fact, ‘natural’ ingredients may be harder to preserve against microbial contamination and growth than synthetic raw materials. Many of them have a short shelf life and can harm your skin if the product has expired. Sometimes organic products are made of fruit extracts which can irritate skin or cause allergies.

Hair Myths

Myth 5: Plucking a Gray Hair Makes More Gray Hair Come Out-

Congrats! You have invented a cure for baldness. We can ask all the bald men to start plucking their Gray hair and grow more hair. Honey, it’s simply not possible. The number of hair follicle on your scalp are fixed.

Myth 6: Hair Becomes Thicker Because of Shaving-

Can a thick tree trunk come out of a tube? Not possible. Thickness of our hair depends the size of our hair follicle and it does not change. If your hair appears thicker to you after shaving, it is because you cut the hair at a sharp angle.

Myth 7: Hair Gets Used to the Same Shampoo So You Should Keep Changing Your Shampoo-

This is a myth spread by marketing people who want you to keep changing hair products. If your hair loves a certain shampoo why change it? And the improvement that you see in your hair on changing your shampoo only means two things- either the improvement is illusory or that you were using the wrong product previously. Whatever be the case, if you have found the perfect shampoo for your hair, keep using it.

Myth 8: Split ends can be repaired-

The only way you can solve the problem of your split ends in hair is to cut them off entirely. However, if you keep your hair hydrated you might be able to prevent split ends from occurring.

Skin and Eye Myths:

Myth 9: Moisturizers Can Prevent or Reduce Wrinkles-

Sorry to disappoint you mademoiselle but there is still no magical formula to prevent aging. A moisturizer will smoothen your skin to temporarily make wrinkles less apparent, but unfortunately, moisturizing your skin will not have any long-term effect on wrinkles. If you want to prevent some wrinkles use that sunscreen with ‘broad spectrum’ on it.

Myth 10: Cucumber Reduces Eye Puffiness-

Well, yes and no. There is no secret ingedient in cucumber to reduce puffiness. Only thing is that a cucumber can stay cold for long outside your refrigerator. That coldness is what actually reduces puffiness (it contracts the blood vessels around your eyes, thereby reducing swelling). So you can use anything that is cold, put it under your eyes and the swelling would go. You do not need cucumber.

You can just wear it as a single wash of colour on your lids or can mix and match it with different shades. The pigment of , Chanel Taupe Grisé eyeshadow is pretty strong and just a swipe of colour gives you beautiful pigment to work with.

Chanel Taupe Grisé has a satiny finish – it’s neither matte nor shimmery. Another interesting thing that I like about this shade is that it looks different in different lights. Sometimes it looks more brown, sometimes it shows its mauve undertones and sometimes the grey undertone becomes prominent. Love it for it is and it one of the “must haves” if you love neutrals.

Played with Chanel Taupe Grise eyeshadow a little. I generally like to apply it all over the lid but in the following look I have also used the pearly white eyeshadow.

Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow Taupe Grise photo

This is how I created the eye look:

Step 1:Apply primer on your lids

Step 2 Apply brown eyeliner on the upper lash line and smudge it with Chanel Taupe Grise eyeshadow.

Step 3 : Apply Chanel Taupe Grise on the outer two third of the lid.

Step 4: Apply pearly white eyeshadow on the inner third of the lid and blend it lightly with the Chanel Taupe Grise so that no edges are visible.

Step 4: Apply Chanel Taupe Grise on the outer two third of the lower lash liner and pearly white eyeshadow on the inner third.

Step 6: Curl lashes and apply mascara.

Step 7 (optional) before curling lashes you may also define your upper lash line with a gel liner.

Avon’s In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion Review

In case you have absolutely no idea who Reese Witherspoon is I would suggest you to watch the movie ‘Legally Blonde’, the only movie in which I liked her. I was gifted this lotion by a friend who brought this from her trip to Canada. I haven’t seen this in the Avon brochures so I am not sure about the availability of this lotion everywhere. I have been using this lotion for almost 3 months and honestly till just few days back I had no idea this lotion was by Avon, I thought it was like her own custom made brand

What Avon says about In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion?

Sensual and elegant, it entices the senses with gardenia blossoms and lush florals, enveloped in amber wood and peach tea leaves.

Award-winning actress, Hollywood producer and working mother, Reese embodies the perfect balance of inner and outer beauty. Her celebrity style and sensual elegance are captured in the heart of In Bloom.

”In developing In Bloom, I found myself drawn to the scents of my childhood in Tennesse. We had a great big magnolia tree in the backyard and it’s that beautiful white blossom that inspired the perfume. In Bloom is indicative of where I am in my life today. I’m feeling very strong and independent, and so happy, so full of life. The fragrance truly captures that feeling – it’s very sensual, very romantic and alluring.” – Reese Witherspoon for Avon

About ‘In Bloom’ range:-
Reese Witherspoon being Avon’s Global Ambassador had collaborated with Avon in 2009 to produce a few fragrance range products. The collection includes In Bloom Limited edition Parfum (which by the way is still available, how can a limited edition product be available for almost more than a year ) , In Bloom Eau de Parfum Spray (which has been awarded the Reader’s Choice Best New Fragance by Allure magazine), In Bloom Body Mist, In Bloom Body Lotion & In Bloom Shower Gel.

My Experience with In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion:-
I am really skeptical about products which belong to a celebrity’s individual brand or collaborated brand. When I initially received it I really wasn’t planning to try it until my friend insisted to atleast smell it. I opened the flip top lid & was spellbound by the scent. I am at loss of words to describe how amazing the scent actually is!! I can imagine why the original Parfum and the Parfum Spray was such a huge hit which is why they are still selling a limited edition product wish MAC could do the same

What I like about the In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion?

Obviously the super duper awesome fragrance. I like how the scent is not too flowery or sweet kinds like other flower scented products. It’s a heavenly scent which you would want to wear everyday!!

I like how it’s not very greasy like other lotions & gets soaked in the skin very fast.

A little goes a long way which is why this lotion is still not getting over despite using it everyday since past 3 months!!

What I dislike about the In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion?

There is absolutely no moisturizing effect. Wish it would act more of a body lotion by being more moisturizing.

The scent hardly lasts long. Just after 1 hour of application I will have to literally sniff near my skin to be able to feel the scent. If something smells as good as this I would prefer it to last long & be able to feel the scent at all points of time.

Would I repurchase Avon’s In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon Body Lotion?

No, not this lotion but will definitely purchase the In Bloom Eau de Parfum Spray assuming it smells the same as this lotion due to the presence of gardenia blossom extracts along with other florals , engulfed in amber wood and peach tea leaves.

My Rating:-
