The annual project, sponsored by St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, features work by several local designers and landscape architects - with the help of financial sponsors and donors of in-kind services - who completely restore classic homes in order to raise funds for Wishard Health Services. The homes are introduced to the public for tours and viewing before and after the restoration. Over the past 50 years, the Guild has raised more than $10 million dollars for Wishard Health Services.

That’s because their home is part of the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association (MKNA), which is celebrating its 39^th annual Home and Garden Tour on June 16 and 17, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. This tour is one of Indiana’s oldest tours of vintage homes, offering guests the opportunity to view unique architecture, innovative interior design, and all recent renovations that have taken place - such as the Gibsons’ effort to create a completely eco-friendly home, from wool carpets to geo-thermal heating and cooling. Kathie and Adam Gibson are just one set of proud participants who are opening their doors to the public, however; the tour will feature 7 homes and gardens, selected for their interior and exterior design, as well as distinguishing architectural elements.  The IDC is proud to have Adam Gibson as a member of the Indiana Design Center Advisory Board as a representative for the NKBA-Indiana Chapter.

Additionally, this year’s tour focuses around the central theme of “I Love My Home Because…” in which the residents of Meridian-Kessler highlight the many reasons they love their historic neighborhood:

This month, the Carmel Arts & Design District IU Health North Hospital Second Saturday Gallery Walk will include Coats-Wright Art & Design Gallery, located at Indiana Design Center, as one of the featured stops among downtown Carmel’s art galleries. Coats-Wright Art & Design opened their doors for the first time in May 2011 on the first floor of the Indiana Design Center, open to both the public and trade professionals. It is managed by Jane Coats-Eckert and Dianne Wright.

The gallery features an eclectic mix of paintings and sculptures by regionally and nationally known artists, both traditional and modern, whose works span the 19^th century to present. Among those are T.C. Steele, C. W. Mundy, Janet Scudder, Boaz Vaadia and internationally recognized Robert Rauschenberg.  Coats-Wright Art & Design also introduced two artists, painter Eric Forstmann and sculptor Michael Kalish, who are gaining national and international recognition. Their space also showcases antiques from R. Beauchamp Antiques and oriental rugs by Sarver’s.

Additionally, the business features interior design services by Dianne Wright. Wright takes a uniquely art-focused approach to her design; “we want art to drive the design project, not be an afterthought,” Wright said.

“I hope we can make everyone feel welcome,” Wright said, “I’ve been in galleries that are so stale and unapproachable.  I didn’t want that to happen here and I don’t think it has.  People come in and aren’t afraid to poke around.”
